OpenCape's fiber backbone will support Gateway Fiber's fiber-to-the-home buildout in Falmouth, Barnstable, Yarmouth, and beyond.

BARNSTABLE, Mass., Oct. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- OpenCape, the operator of the region's 100% fiber optic network connecting Cape Cod to Boston and Providence, today welcomed Gateway Fiber to Cape Cod as it begins its expansion in the region. Gateway Fiber, which announced last month that it is bringing 100% fiber internet service to Falmouth, Barnstable, and Yarmouth residents, will utilize OpenCape's fiber optic backbone for this innovative service buildout.

OpenCape was founded in 2007 to help solve the widespread connectivity problems on Cape Cod and the surrounding regions as inadequate bandwidth, limited broadband coverage, and poor cell phone service threatened to hold the region back. The region's businesses and research institutions were finding it increasingly hard to compete globally due to the high cost, slow speeds, and poor availability of broadband. Today, OpenCape is working to strengthen communities and local economies by operating an open-access fiber network that promotes choice and competition while serving as the backbone of future-proof internet connectivity from Cape Cod to southern New England.

"Gateway Fiber is bringing real momentum and investment to Cape Cod, and we're thrilled that our state-of-the-art fiber optic network is helping bring faster connections to homeowners across the region," said Pete Saladino, CEO of OpenCape.

OpenCape's network spans more than 500 route miles across Cape Cod, southeastern Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, with direct Tier 1 connections into Boston and Providence. The backbone runs on the same class of carrier-grade optical transport and coherent routing platforms used by the world's largest network operators, delivering up to 800 Gbps per wavelength today with room to scale to 1.65 Tbps. The network was built as an open-access resource for the region and has served internet service providers, cellular backhaul customers, businesses, and municipalities for more than a decade.

"OpenCape has laid an important foundation for connectivity across Cape Cod, and we're excited to build on that investment," said Chris Surdo, CEO of Gateway Fiber. "The Cape has strong local communities, year-round residents, small businesses and seasonal homeowners who all need internet they can count on. Together, we can bring more choice and a better internet experience with 100% fiber internet, straightforward pricing, and service from a team that wants to be a part of the communities we serve. We've built strong momentum in Massachusetts, and we're excited to continue that growth with a partner that shares our commitment to the Cape."

Hotel Casa Real of Viña Santa Rita Earns its First Michelin Key
Image File
Original HTML

The distinction is part of the Michelin Guide's 2026 global selection, which recognized 20 Chilean hotels, establishing Viña Santa Rita as an icon of heritage and cultural tourism worldwide, and reflecting the excellence in hospitality and quality of service of its boutique hotel.

NEW YORK, Oct. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The prestigious Michelin Guide, known worldwide for evaluating and rating restaurant quality through its Stars, unveiled its 2026 Michelin Keys list, a distinction it has awarded for two years now and which is the hotel equivalent of the Michelin Star for restaurants.

In 2025, the Guide awarded this distinction to Chilean hotels for the first time, recognizing a total of 17 properties. This year, Hotel Casa Real was honored with its first Michelin Key, joining the 20 hotels recognized by the 2026 Guide, two of which are winery hotels.

The 2026 global selection added more than 470 new establishments across 79 destinations, bringing the worldwide total of Michelin Key hotels to 2,832.

Hotel Casa Real: Heritage, History and Excellence

Located in the heart of the Maipo Valley, just 45 minutes from Santiago, Hotel Casa Real of Viña Santa Rita has been recognized for offering a heritage experience that combines history, culture, gastronomy and wine in an unrivaled natural setting — where tradition, rooted in its winemaking identity, and sophistication, expressed through a contemporary experience, come together to deliver heritage, cultural and culinary tourism within an exceptional natural environment.

"This recognition reflects Viña Santa Rita's commitment to preserving the history, culture and identity of Chilean wine, and to offering that combination of tradition and sophistication that has placed our wines among the world's finest. We are filled with pride that Hotel Casa Real has earned its first Michelin Key, reaffirming the value of Chile's heritage and, at the same time, inspiring us to continue safeguarding this legacy so future generations can experience it too," said Elena Carretero, Corporate Affairs, Sustainability and Tourism Director at Viña Santa Rita.

Declared a National Historic Monument in 1972 and designed by German architect Teodoro Burchard, Hotel Casa Real invites guests to explore the rich heritage of Viña Santa Rita: a 40-hectare centenary park, a neo-Gothic chapel, historic cellars, the Doña Paula restaurant — a tribute to Paula Jaraquemada and her role in Chile's independence — and the Andean Museum, part of the Claro Vial Foundation, home to more than 3,000 archaeological and ethnographic pieces from South America's native peoples.

This new recognition adds to a series of distinctions that have established Hotel Casa Real among the continent's leading heritage destinations. In 2024, Travel + Leisure named it among the world's 40 best hotels and the second-best in South America in its World's Best Awards, while Condé Nast Traveler has included it in its Readers' Choice Awards for three consecutive years — 2023, 2024 and 2025. Booking.com also awarded it the Traveller Review Award in 2025 and 2026, recognizing its hospitality and service.

"We are very proud of this recognition, which honors the trajectory of our beloved Hotel Casa Real, a historic monument made truly special and unique through its wine, gastronomy, culture and history. All of this, together with a team that works with passion and a strong sense of belonging, is undoubtedly key to creating memorable experiences for our visitors," said Juan Vila, Hotel Manager Casa Real.

These achievements reflect Hotel Casa Real's consolidation as a benchmark for Chilean wine tourism and heritage hospitality in South America, reaffirming Viña Santa Rita's commitment to culture and to preserving Chile's winemaking heritage and identity.

About the Michelin Guide's Hotel Selection

The Michelin Guide's hotel selection is based on the work of its inspectors, who travel anonymously and independently to identify hotels offering exceptional experiences. The selection brings together a wide variety of properties, from historic buildings and grand hotels to independent boutique hotels, remote retreats and innovative recent openings. Hotels receive one, two or three Michelin Keys depending on the level of experience they offer. One Key, a very special stay; two Keys, an exceptional stay; three Keys, an extraordinary stay.

About Casa Real and Viña Santa Rita

Casa Real is the flagship wine of Viña Santa Rita and one of Chile's most celebrated Cabernet Sauvignons. Produced only in exceptional vintages since its inaugural 1989 harvest, Casa Real is sourced from a historic 20-hectare vineyard of ungrafted vines in Alto Jahuel, in the heart of the Maipo Valley. Its purity, consistency, and authenticity have established it as an international benchmark, earning recognition as the first Latin American wine named a "Wine Legend" by Decanter.

Founded in 1880, Viña Santa Rita is today one of Chile's leading wineries, renowned for its heritage, innovation, and commitment to crafting wines of world-class quality. With Casa Real at its pinnacle, Santa Rita continues to showcase the unique terroirs of Chile and to project the excellence of Chilean wine to the world.

Major League Volleyball Introduces Marquee Player Exception

Major League Volleyball Introduces Marquee Player Exception

New salary-cap mechanism gives every MLV team an optional tool to attract and retain elite professional talent globally while maintaining competitive balance across the league.

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Major League Volleyball (MLV) has announced the introduction of the MLV Marquee Player Exception, a new salary-cap mechanism designed to allow teams to attract and retain more elite professional talent while preserving the league's existing salary-cap structure and competitive balance.

The new salary-cap exception gives every MLV team an equal and optional opportunity to make a significant investment in additional players while preserving the league's existing financial framework for the remainder of each roster. The new mechanism also creates a pathway for teams to compete for high-profile collegiate players entering professional volleyball through the MLV Draft.

"MLV is committed to building the premier professional volleyball league in the world and that means creating the right environment to attract and retain more of the very best players in the sport," said Jaime Weston, Commissioner of Major League Volleyball. "This exception gives every team the same opportunity to make strategic investments in designated players while maintaining the competitive balance and salary-cap structure that are foundational to our league and differentiate us in professional volleyball."

How the Exception Works

Each MLV team may designate up to two marquee players:

- One Seasoned Marquee Player: An established professional athlete who meets league eligibility requirements and can help a team strengthen its roster and build for the future.

- One Rookie Marquee Player: An elite collegiate player selected in the MLV Draft who begins their professional career with MLV immediately during the season after the draft.

The Marquee Player Exception allows a team to designate certain compensation for a marquee player outside of the standard salary-cap structure, subject to the league's luxury tax. All marquee player contracts remain subject to MLV's roster, contract, registration and eligibility rules.

"MLV should have the ability to allow all teams to compete for global talent," said Cole DeVos of the Grand Rapids Rise, who serves as co-chair of the competition committee. "This structure gives our teams that flexibility while protecting the integrity of the roster and salary-cap system for the rest of the league. Just as importantly, it gives MLV teams the opportunity to pursue the next generation of athletes as they enter professional volleyball."

Building MLV's Global Talent Base

MLV's long-term goal is to build the world's leading pro volleyball platform and attract talent from the U.S. and abroad. The Marquee Player Exception strengthens that vision by giving teams greater flexibility to recruit and retain additional top athletes while complementing MLV's broader investments in player compensation, benefits, competition, broadcast coverage, and the fan experience.

"This is an investment in the future of MLV," said DeVos. "Our ambition is not simply to retain individual players. It is to create an environment where professional athletes can build meaningful, visible and financially sustainable careers in professional volleyball."

The Marquee Player Exception will be incorporated into MLV's salary-cap and roster regulations and will take effect with the 2026 MLV Draft for eligible NCAA players entering the league for the 2027 season and with 2028 free agency for Seasoned Marquee Players.

"As women's sports continue to experience significant momentum and commercial growth globally, MLV is building the structural foundation required to support athletes, teams and fans for the long term," Weston added.

The 2026 MLV Draft will take place on November 23, 2026.

About Major League Volleyball

Major League Volleyball (MLV) is the premier professional volleyball league in the United States, designed to provide the sport and its athletes with the major league platform they deserve. Founded on a player-first philosophy, MLV combines elite competition, significant investment in athlete development, experienced professional sports ownership from every other U.S. professional league and a commitment to long-term growth of volleyball across the country. As the league enters its fourth season in 2027, MLV will expand to 12 teams from coast-to-coast and continue to create top-level, lasting opportunities and memories for players, coaches and local communities while leading the way in solidifying the future of professional volleyball in North America. HelloNation Features Insurance Expert Rick Hernandez on Choosing Insurance Coverage Without Overpaying
Image File
Original HTML

The article outlines how balancing coverage limits, deductibles, and risk tolerance can help control insurance costs.

BROOMFIELD, Colo., Oct. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- How can individuals choose the right insurance coverage without paying more than necessary?

The answer is published in a HelloNation article, featuring insights from Insurance Agent Rick Hernandez of Broomfield, CO.

The HelloNation article explains that selecting the right insurance coverage begins with understanding personal risks and financial priorities. While many people focus on price, the article notes that insurance cost alone does not determine value. A well structured insurance policy should provide appropriate protection without including unnecessary expenses.

The first step is identifying what needs to be protected. This may include a home, vehicle, or other assets. The article explains that choosing the right insurance coverage depends on aligning the policy with actual risks. For example, individuals with higher value assets may require higher coverage limits to ensure adequate protection.

Coverage limits play a central role in how an insurance policy functions. These limits determine how much an insurer will pay for a covered claim. The article highlights that setting coverage limits too low can leave gaps in protection, while excessively high limits may increase insurance cost without adding meaningful benefit.

The insurance deductible is another key factor. The article explains that the insurance deductible represents the amount paid out of pocket before coverage applies. A higher insurance deductible can lower monthly premiums, while a lower deductible increases costs but reduces immediate financial responsibility during a claim. Balancing the insurance deductible with coverage limits is essential to managing insurance cost effectively.

Risk tolerance is also an important consideration. The article notes that individuals have different comfort levels when it comes to financial risk. Some prefer lower out of pocket costs and higher premiums, while others accept a higher insurance deductible to reduce ongoing expenses. Matching insurance coverage to personal risk tolerance helps avoid overpaying.

Carefully reviewing policy details is another critical step. The article explains that not all insurance policy options are the same, even when they appear similar. Understanding what is included and excluded ensures that the selected insurance coverage meets actual needs and avoids unnecessary features.

Comparing multiple insurance policy options can also help reduce insurance costs. Different providers evaluate risk differently, which can lead to variations in pricing. The article highlights that reviewing several policies allows individuals to find the best balance between coverage limits, insurance deductible, and overall cost.

Avoiding unnecessary add ons is another way to manage insurance costs. The article notes that optional features may increase the price of an insurance policy without providing relevant benefits. Evaluating these options carefully helps ensure that insurance coverage remains focused on essential protection.

Life changes can also impact insurance needs over time. The article explains that changes such as purchasing property or adjusting financial priorities may require updates to coverage limits or insurance deductible levels. Regularly reviewing an insurance policy helps maintain alignment with current risk tolerance and avoids paying for outdated coverage.

Discounts can provide additional savings opportunities. The article highlights that bundling policies or maintaining a strong record may reduce insurance costs without lowering coverage limits. These savings can make insurance coverage more affordable while maintaining protection.

The article concludes that choosing the right insurance coverage involves balancing coverage limits, insurance deductible, and risk tolerance. By understanding these factors and comparing insurance policy options, individuals can manage insurance cost effectively while maintaining the protection they need.

How to Choose the Right Insurance Coverage for Your Needs Without Overpaying features insights from Rick Hernandez, Insurance Expert of Broomfield, CO, in HelloNation.

Veterinary Expert Dr. Joyce Heideman of Lansing Shares Tips for Senior Dog Care in HelloNation Feature
Image File
Original HTML

LANSING, Mich., Oct. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- How can pet owners keep aging dogs comfortable at home? That question is answered in a HelloNation article featuring insights from Dr. Joyce Heideman of Southside Animal Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. The article outlines practical steps to improve senior dog care through small household adjustments that enhance safety, warmth, and mobility.

As dogs grow older, their physical abilities and comfort needs evolve. What once seemed easy, like climbing stairs or walking across smooth floors, can become a challenge. The HelloNation article emphasizes that pet comfort depends as much on the home environment as on medical care. Dr. Heideman's advice shows that thoughtful changes—rather than costly equipment—can make a lasting difference in how well an older dog adapts to daily life.

One of the simplest and most effective modifications for aging dogs is the use of nonslip rugs or runners. These provide secure footing for dogs with weakened joints or balance problems, reducing the risk of injury. The HelloNation article explains that traction and stability are essential to maintaining dog mobility and confidence. As senior dog care focuses more on safety, these additions become vital in preventing falls and maintaining independence.

Raised bowls are another easy improvement. When food and water dishes are lifted off the ground, dogs no longer have to strain their necks, shoulders, or backs while eating. This is especially helpful for larger breeds or those managing arthritis or joint stiffness. Dr. Heideman's insights reinforce that such small changes support long-term joint health and comfort without requiring major expense or specialized training.

Temperature control also plays a significant role in senior dog care. The HelloNation article notes that older dogs are more sensitive to cold floors, drafts, and fluctuating temperatures. Placing a dog's bed away from doors, vents, or windows can prevent discomfort and reduce stiffness. Orthopedic beds are particularly beneficial, providing cushioning that relieves pressure on hips and elbows. Many owners even rotate bedding locations to give dogs choices based on season or time of day, enhancing overall pet comfort.

Environmental awareness extends beyond physical comfort. A calm, predictable setting contributes to emotional well-being for aging dogs. The article highlights how reducing noise and clutter can ease stress, while keeping essentials like water bowls or sleeping areas in consistent spots helps dogs navigate more confidently. Dr. Heideman's approach to pet comfort emphasizes that the environment shapes both physical and emotional health in senior pets.

Regular movement remains key to sustaining dog mobility and joint health. The HelloNation article recommends shorter, more frequent walks for senior dogs instead of long, strenuous outings. This approach supports circulation, muscle tone, and mental engagement. Gentle exercise not only maintains flexibility but also strengthens the bond between pet and owner. When stiffness or discomfort appears, consulting a veterinarian about supplements or pain management ensures a safe and comfortable routine.

Lighting is another often-overlooked factor in senior dog care. Older dogs can experience declining vision, making it harder to move safely in dim or unfamiliar areas. The article suggests adding nightlights near favorite spots and ensuring hallways and stairways remain well lit. This simple addition can significantly reduce confusion and prevent accidents, improving a senior dog's independence around the home.

Dr. Heideman's guidance in the HelloNation feature highlights that maintaining comfort for aging dogs is not about dramatic changes but about attentiveness. Observing subtle shifts in mobility or behavior allows owners to adapt their homes accordingly. A warm, stable, and well-organized space gives senior dogs both physical relief and emotional assurance. The effort to notice and respond to these small needs demonstrates the compassion at the heart of effective senior dog care.

Every dog ages differently, and comfort depends on a balance of physical support, emotional calm, and daily movement. By applying the practical ideas described in the HelloNation article—such as adding nonslip rugs, raised bowls, and orthopedic beds—pet owners can help their dogs stay active, confident, and comfortable through their later years. Dr. Joyce Heideman's experience at Southside Animal Hospital reflects how simple changes, guided by understanding, can create a safe and happy environment for aging pets.

Keeping Older Dogs Comfortable at Home features insights from Dr. Joyce Heideman, Veterinary Expert of Lansing, MI, in HelloNation.

About Galleri®

The Galleri® multi-cancer early detection (MCED) test screens for more than 50 cancer types, including many deadly cancers that currently lack screening options, such as pancreatic, ovarian, and liver/bile duct cancers1. The Galleri test is the only MCED test clinically proven through a randomized controlled trial to increase earlier cancer detection (Stage I-III) and reduce Stage IV diagnoses - enabling more patients to have access to potentially curative treatment options2. When added to standard-of-care screening, the Galleri test reduced Stage IV diagnosis by more than 20% after the first year of screening across all stageable cancers2,*. The Galleri test increased cancer detection by screening four times versus standard of care screening alone2. The Galleri test has the lowest false positive rate among MCED tests** and the ability to predict the Cancer Signal Origin with greater than 90% accuracy, helping guide efficient diagnostic evaluation1-3. The Galleri test is backed by a robust clinical evidence program, with more than 380,000 participants across multiple studies, including the NHS-Galleri trial, the first and only randomized controlled trial for an MCED test. The Galleri test has delivered consistent performance across these studies. The Galleri test requires a prescription from a licensed healthcare provider and should be used in addition to recommended cancer screenings, such as mammography, colonoscopy, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test, cervical or lung cancer screening. The Galleri test is recommended for adults with an elevated risk for cancer, such as those aged 50 years or older.

For more information, visit galleri.com.

*A statistically significant reduction was not observed in combined stage III–IV diagnoses across three screening rounds for 12 cancer types responsible for around two-thirds of cancer mortality in the US and UK.

**Test performance metrics do not represent results of a head-to-head comparative study. Separate studies have different designs, objectives, and participant populations, which limits the ability to draw conclusions about comparative performance.

Important Galleri Safety Information

The Galleri test is recommended for use in adults with an elevated risk for cancer, such as those age 50 years or older. The test does not detect all cancers and should be used in addition to routine cancer screening tests recommended by a healthcare provider. The Galleri test is intended to detect cancer signals and predict where in the body the cancer signal is located. Use of the test is not recommended in individuals who are pregnant, 21 years old or younger, or undergoing active cancer treatment. Results should be interpreted by a healthcare provider in the context of medical history, clinical signs, and symptoms. A test result of No Cancer Signal Detected does not rule out cancer. A test result of Cancer Signal Detected requires confirmatory diagnostic evaluation by medically established procedures (e.g., imaging) to confirm cancer. If cancer is not confirmed with further testing, it could mean that cancer is not present or testing was insufficient to detect cancer, including due to the cancer being located in a different part of the body. False positive (a cancer signal detected when cancer is not present) and false negative (a cancer signal not detected when cancer is present) test results do occur. Rx only.

Laboratory/Test Information

The GRAIL clinical laboratory is certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) and accredited by the College of American Pathologists. The Galleri test was developed — and its performance characteristics were determined — by GRAIL. The Galleri test has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The GRAIL clinical laboratory is regulated under CLIA to perform high-complexity testing. The Galleri test is intended for clinical purposes.

QA FAIL (need review): TARGET misstates two facts from SOURCE: (1) it claims 'more than 200 histologically distinct cancer types,' while SOURCE says 'more than 200 cancers across histologically distinct cancer types'; (2) it attributes 'over 380,000 participants' to the two trials specifically, while SOURCE assigns that number to the overall evidence program 'across multiple studies.'

AMPERA SUBMITS COMPREHENSIVE ENGAGEMENT PLAN TO THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla., Oct. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced nuclear company AMPERA has submitted a comprehensive Regulatory Engagement Plan to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) as part of the pre-application phase of the licensing process. The company anticipates submitting its combined manufacturing and fuel fabrication facility license application by October 2027.

As part of this phase of the licensing process, AMPERA is providing detailed information on key development topics such as its innovative design features, methodologies and analysis to accelerate and de-risk the regulatory review period.

AMPERA's licensing and commercialization plan aligns with the NRC's recently established Office of Advanced Reactors (OAR). The OAR is responsible for implementing an integrated regulatory approach that enables the safe deployment of advanced reactor technologies.

The current scope of AMPERA's plan is integrated, covering reactor licensing under Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Parts 40, 53, 70 and 71 to support nuclear material activities, fuel fabrication, reactor core manufacturing and module deployment to multiple sites. With recent and anticipated changes in the regulatory rulemaking space for advanced microreactor technology, AMPERA's plan provides flexibility to establish the most effective and efficient licensing path for commercialization and worldwide deployment.

"Through this process, we will share technical details with regulators, protect our intellectual property and bolster confidence in advanced nuclear technology," said AMPERA Founder and CEO Brian Matthews. "We are looking forward to reviewing our plans with the NRC for AMPERA's commercial subcritical, thorium-fueled, modular system."

Unlike conventional light water reactors, AMPERA's thorium-based fuel and subcritical operating systems take advantage of an external neutron generator to initiate and sustain operation, creating an additional layer of operational control while enabling innovative fuel cycle approaches. On Aug. 26, AMPERA and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory announced a strategic partnership for advanced nuclear fuel development.

"We are making great progress, continuing to strengthen our team and looking forward to continued engagement with regulators and stakeholders," said AMPERA's Licensing Strategist, Dr. April Smith. "We are bringing differentiated technology to market. The NRC is willing to take on the challenge, and we are excited to work with them on this first-of-a-kind technology in the microreactor space."

AMPERA has added Michael Hamer as Director of Licensing & Regulatory Affairs. A graduate of the U.S. Navy Nuclear Program, Hamer has more than 25 years of licensing experience for nuclear power projects in the U.S., South Korea, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Poland and Canada. Combining these accomplishments with over 16 years in applied health physics, Hamer brings deep and holistic expertise to licensing. Hamer and Dr. Smith will anchor AMPERA's licensing activities as it develops the company's "PowerNOW. NuclearNEXT." platform.

About AMPERA

AMPERA is an advanced energy technology company developing scalable power solutions for data center, defense, industrial and maritime applications. Through its "PowerNOW. NuclearNEXT." strategy, AMPERA combines advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence and next-generation energy technologies to deliver reliable, factory-built power systems.
