PITTSBURGH, Oct. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- "I wanted to create a new bird deflector for aircraft engines to prevent birds from entering and causing damage," said an inventor, from Lewis Center, Ohio, "so I invented the MANSARAY INVENTION. My cost-effective design increases safety, and it would be easy to integrate into all types of airplanes."

The invention provides an effective way to prevent birds from encountering the engine of an aircraft. In doing so, it would repel or keep birds away from the path of the engine. As a result, it helps prevent engine damage and accidents. It also could improve air travel safety. The invention features a practical and protective design that is easy to employ so it is ideal for airlines and aircraft manufacturers.

The original design was submitted to the Cincinnati sales office of InventHelp. It is currently available for licensing or sale to manufacturers or marketers. New Hampshire's First Skyscraper Reopens as Rendezvous on Elm

Mayor Jay Ruais and the Greater Manchester Chamber will gather with owners David A. De Lise and Anthony DeLucia to celebrate a $10 million downtown renovation.

MANCHESTER, N.H., Oct. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Rendezvous on Elm, the $10 million renovation of New Hampshire's first skyscraper, will officially open with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, October 7 at 11 a.m. at 967 Elm Street.

Mayor Jay Ruais and the Greater Manchester Chamber will be on hand to welcome the newest residential address in the heart of the Queen City.

The ceremony celebrates the work of owners David A. De Lise and Anthony DeLucia, who turned unused office space into beautiful, modern living spaces. Both owners will be there to cut the ribbon.

Forgotten offices transformed into modern homes on Elm Street

The Dunlap Building, constructed in 1879 and recognized as New Hampshire's first skyscraper, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. After decades of commercial use, its offices sat vacant for years, leaving one of downtown's most recognizable buildings waiting for a second act.

De Lise and DeLucia, who bring more than 60 years of combined commercial real estate experience, saw homes where others saw empty offices.

Turning a building that had never been residential into a place to live meant rebuilding nearly everything inside it, from mechanical systems to soundproofing.

It also earned Rendezvous on Elm "Project of the Month" in the New England Real Estate Journal.

"This building has been part of Manchester's skyline since 1879, and it sat unused for far too long. Now the work is done, the lights are on, and people are about to call it home. We couldn't be prouder to welcome new people to downtown Manchester," said De Lise.

New neighbors for downtown Manchester

Where empty offices once overlooked Elm Street, 27 residences now range from studios to two-bedroom apartments. 1-bedroom apartments start at $2,000 per month, with early-mover discounts available.

Covered parking, hot water, and internet are all included in the lease. High-end, super-efficient appliances, in-unit laundry, and glass-door, walk-in showers are just a few of the features residents will enjoy daily.

The views are incredible, especially during parades and firework season.

Each residence comes with modern comforts built in: individually controlled heating and air conditioning, a fresh-air makeup system (so you don't smell what your neighbors are cooking), keyless entry, and 1Gig fiber internet are all part of the package.

Although the neighborhood is incredibly walkable, indoor bike storage with e-bike charging is also provided.

No two of the 27 residences share the exact same floor plan, and just six sit on the penthouse floor.

Lease applications are open now, with a limited number of leasing specials available through the leasing office at (603) 591-1246. The property is professionally managed by Ledgeview Commercial Partners.

For the Greater Manchester Chamber, which will take part in the ceremony, the opening means more people living, dining, and shopping along Elm Street.

"Downtown is at its best when people live here, not just work here. Rendezvous on Elm took a landmark that was sitting empty and filled it with homes. That's the kind of investment that keeps Elm Street moving forward," said Heather McGrail, President & CEO of the Greater Manchester Chamber.

"We can't wait to welcome our newest neighbors," McGrail added.

- The award formalizes a seven-year framework to triple PAC-3 MSE seeker production.

- Increased production supports the Pentagon's Acquisition Transformation Strategy and strengthens the nation's U.S. Arsenal of Freedom.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Oct. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing [NYSE:BA] was awarded an undefinitized contract action worth approximately $14.7 billion by Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] to scale production and deliver PAC-3® Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) seekers.

The contract award enables Boeing to triple PAC-3 MSE seeker production under the previously announced seven-year framework agreement with the U.S. Department of War in support of its Acquisition Transformation Strategy and to strengthen the nation's Arsenal of Freedom.

Boeing-built seekers enable the most advanced Patriot interceptors to identify, track and engage advanced threats ranging from hostile aircraft to hypersonic, ballistic and cruise missiles.

"Early investment and a relentless focus on quality and execution have positioned us to now deliver seekers at unprecedented levels in the near-term, and we're committed to building on that momentum," said Steve Parker, president and CEO of Boeing Defense, Space & Security. "Our Boeing teammates could not be prouder of the role they play in protecting U.S. and allied service members, civilians and critical infrastructure worldwide."

In addition to recent capital investments to expand its PAC-3 seeker factory, Boeing has strengthened supplier relationships for a more agile, affordable, resilient and scalable supply chain, modernized facilities with cutting-edge technology, and improved processes and controls to increase first-time quality.

Production ramp-up and hiring to support it began earlier this year following the framework agreement announcement, with hundreds of direct and indirect jobs expected to be created in the Huntsville, Alabama, area as a result of the contract.

The production increase supports the U.S. Department of War's focus on strengthening the Arsenal of Freedom and aligns with its Acquisition Transformation Strategy to accelerate delivery of key capabilities to service members.

A leading global aerospace company and top U.S. exporter, Boeing develops, manufactures and services commercial airplanes, defense products and space systems for customers in more than 150 countries. Our U.S. and global workforce and supplier base drive innovation, economic opportunity, sustainability and community impact. Boeing is committed to fostering a culture based on our core values of safety, quality and integrity.

Blue Zones Announces Brett McClung as New CEO
Image File
Original HTML

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Zones, the global leader in longevity research and helping people live longer, healthier lives, announced today the appointment of Brett McClung as Chief Executive Officer and President. McClung brings more than two decades of executive healthcare leadership, a proven record of organizational transformation, and a deep personal connection to the Blue Zones purpose.

McClung previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Baptist Health in Jacksonville, Florida, where he led one of the nation's largest health systems and championed bringing Blue Zones Project® to the Jacksonville community. Prior to Baptist Health, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Leader of Texas Health Resources, where he was an executive sponsor of Blue Zones Project in Fort Worth.

After his tenure leading Baptist Health, McClung was selected as a Fellow of Stanford University's Distinguished Careers Institute (DCI), where he explored the transformation of healthcare and the opportunity to move the nation from a predominantly downstream model of treating disease toward an upstream approach focused on preventing illness and creating the conditions for people to thrive.

The experience represented an important evolution in McClung's career—from leading large, complex health systems to pursuing his longstanding passion for improving health at the community level and helping people live longer, healthier lives. He deliberately broadened his lens across the healthcare ecosystem through advisory work and engagements with venture-backed healthcare companies spanning artificial intelligence, ambulatory care, clinical trials, and digital health. These experiences deepened his understanding of how technology, innovation, new care models, and community design can come together to create healthier communities and improve longevity.

His commitment to this work also extends to his experience as an American Marshall Fellow, when he studied comparative health systems, examining how different countries organize, finance, and deliver healthcare and the lessons those models offer for improving population health.

He succeeds Ben Leedle, Blue Zones co-founder and former CEO, who remains with the company driving strategic growth and partnerships. Following Leedle's transition last May after nine years as President and CEO, the organization was guided by Scott Marcus, who served as interim president. Blue Zones extends its sincere gratitude to Marcus, who continues in his primary position as CEO of Blue Zones Kitchen, for his operational leadership leading up to this permanent transition.

Leedle commented, "The next chapter of this company will demand new energy, different leadership rhythms, and a continued willingness to evolve. Having worked with Brett as the lead sponsor and champion on major Blue Zones Project implementations, I know he has the vision, commitment, skills, and experience to lead us to new heights."

"I have spent my career trying to close the gap between the health people have today and the health they are capable of achieving," McClung said. "Blue Zones has demonstrated that when communities and organizations work together to make the healthy choice the easy choice, we can create meaningful and lasting change. I am excited to help take that mission to an even greater scale."

Blue Zones will continue to serve its current communities and partners without interruption, and the company's ongoing research, led by founder Dan Buettner, is unchanged.

"When you look at the places where people live the longest, healthiest, and happiest lives, it always comes down to environment that makes the healthy choice easy or unavoidable," said Dan Buettner, founder of Blue Zones. "As our client and partner on two of our largest Blue Zones Projects, McClung profoundly understands not only how to make communities healthier, but how to leverage our strategy to provide financial returns to healthcare systems."

About Blue Zones

Blue Zones employs evidence-based ways to help people live better, longer. The company's work is rooted in explorations and research done by founder and National Geographic Fellow Dan Buettner in blue zones regions around the world, where people live extraordinarily long and/or happy lives. A hit docuseries, Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones, was released on Netflix in 2023. Where Laboratory QC Is Heading: From Manual Checks to Connected Monitoring

Laboratories are shifting quality control from a manual, standalone activity into an automated process embedded directly within daily testing workflows. Commercial platforms such as Roche's navify Lab Operations now provide integrated QC management, configurable QC rules, Levey-Jennings charting, third-party QC integration, and automated suspension of result transmission when a QC issue is detected, illustrating how QC is moving from a periodic check into a continuously monitored system.

A related development is patient-based real-time quality monitoring, which uses results from normal patient populations to flag shifts in analyzer performance between scheduled QC events, offering earlier warning of analytical drift without replacing conventional QC materials. At the same time, risk-based and individualized QC approaches are gaining ground: in the United States, the CDC's Individualized Quality Control Plan (IQCP) allows laboratories to design QC procedures around their specific testing process and environment rather than applying fixed, one-size-fits-all QC frequencies. As testing continues to expand into decentralized and point-of-care settings, platforms like Roche's navify POC Operations are extending centralized oversight, audit trails, and configurable alerts to testing locations outside the traditional laboratory.

What's Fueling Growth in the IVD Quality Control Market

- Rising Testing Volume and Complexity: Expansion of molecular diagnostics, immunodiagnostics, and multiplex testing is increasing the number of analytical parameters laboratories must monitor.

- Regulatory Requirements: Frameworks such as CLIA require laboratories to maintain documented QC procedures, directly supporting adoption of internal QC, proficiency testing, and external quality assessment.

- Laboratory Automation: Growth in automated, high-throughput diagnostic systems is increasing demand for digital QC monitoring, statistical analysis, and automated rule evaluation.

- Point-of-Care Expansion: Decentralized testing is creating demand for simplified, easy-to-use QC products that verify performance outside centralized laboratories.

- Laboratory Standardization: Growing emphasis on standardized laboratory practices is driving utilization of third-party control reagents and external quality assessment programs.

Challenges Facing the IVD Quality Control Market

Laboratories operating multiple analyzers, assay types, and control materials face real difficulty standardizing QC requirements, acceptance criteria, and calibration procedures across platforms, making cross-platform performance comparison more complex. Implementation costs add a further constraint, particularly for smaller laboratories and decentralized testing sites, which must weigh not just the cost of QC materials but also investment in digital QC systems, staff training, and data management.

QC alone cannot guarantee accurate patient results. The World Health Organization emphasizes that quality control should form part of a broader quality-management system that also includes staff training, standard operating procedures, and proficiency testing, underscoring that QC materials are a necessary but not sufficient piece of laboratory quality assurance.

Recent Strategic Developments in the IVD Quality Control Market

In May 2026, RealBio of China signed a strategic agreement with Thermo Fisher Scientific to collaborate on comprehensive quality control solutions for in vitro diagnostics, combining Thermo Fisher's global standards and technical depth with RealBio's strengths in local regulatory support and IVD raw material development.

In July 2025, Siemens Healthineers became the first IVD manufacturer to earn the My Green Lab ACT Ecolabel for both its Atellica analyzers and more than 150 reagents, a certification that provides transparent environmental impact data covering factors such as energy use and waste.

These moves reflect an industry where established diagnostics companies are pairing global technical standards with local regulatory expertise to expand QC solutions internationally, alongside a growing focus on sustainability credentials for QC product lines.

Overland Park nonprofit will close its first location at 9540 Nall Ave. and roll out a mobile shop that brings more shifts to Super Scoopers and more ice cream to every corner of Kansas City

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Oct. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Golden Scoop, a nonprofit ice cream and coffee shop where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities scoop, pour and run the show, is putting its original shop on wheels. The flagship location at 9540 Nall Ave. will serve its final cones on Saturday, Oct, 31st, and its team, equipment and spirit are moving into the organization's first food truck – available now to book for offices, schools, ballfields, festivals and backyard parties across the metro.

The shop opened in April 2021 to lines that wrapped around the strip center. It outgrew its space almost immediately, and a second, larger location with a drive-thru followed at 10460 W. 103rd St., less than 3 miles away. With two storefronts that close together, the team saw a bigger opportunity: stop waiting for Kansas City to come in, and go meet it.

"9540 is where our Super Scoopers first put on the apron, and we will always love this little shop," said Amber Schreiber, CEO of The Golden Scoop. "But our mission was never about four walls. A truck lets us show up at games, office parties and other events all over the city. That means more shifts, more people trained, and a lot more of Kansas City meeting our Super Scoopers face to face."

A bigger stage for Super Scoopers

Events happen at different times and places than a storefront, which opens up new kinds of shifts and new skills: setting up for a crowd, serving on the move and working as a tight crew. Every Super Scooper currently working at 9540 will continue with The Golden Scoop at the 103rd Street shop and on the truck.

"Nothing about who we are is changing," said Allison Woodland, COO at The Golden Scoop. "Same Super Scoopers, same ice cream, same smiles. They just get to share it with a whole lot more people now."

Launched during National Disability Employment Awareness Month

The move comes during National Disability Employment Awareness Month, observed every October. The Golden Scoop opened the month on Oct. 1 with the launch of its Celebrity Scooper program, featuring Kansas State Treasurer Steven Johnson behind the counter, and is closing it out by taking its mission further than any single storefront could.

One last scoop at 9540

Fans are invited to stop by 9540 Nall Ave. one more time before October, 31st to celebrate the spot that started it all. After that, the 103rd Street shop is just down the road, and the truck is only a booking away.

The truck joins a presence that already reaches well beyond the shops, including Golden Scoop pints and cups at area grocery stores and the Golden Connection program, which brings Golden Scoop products into special education classrooms in the Blue Valley, Olathe and Shawnee Mission school districts. A public ribbon cutting for the truck will be announced later this fall.
