The U.S. FDA grants orphan drug designation for Lundbeck's investigational anti-ACTH monoclonal antibody asedebart for treatment of endogenous Cushing's syndrome

- The U.S. FDA has granted Orphan Drug Designation for asedebart (Lu AG13909), Lundbeck's novel investigational anti-ACTH monoclonal antibody, for the treatment of endogenous Cushing's syndrome

- Endogenous Cushing's Syndrome is a rare endocrine disorder driven in most cases by excess adrenocorticotropic hormone, or ACTH, leading to chronic cortisol excess and substantial disease burden, with current treatment options often limited by suboptimal disease control and treatment-related complications 1–3

- Proof-of-concept trial currently ongoing to evaluate efficacy and safety of Lu AG13909 in Cushing's disease (CD)5

VALBY, Denmark, Sept. 11, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Lundbeck today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted Orphan Drug Designation (ODD) to asedebart (Lu AG13909), Lundbeck's novel investigational anti-ACTH monoclonal antibody, for the treatment of endogenous Cushing's syndrome.

Endogenous Cushing's syndrome includes both ACTH-dependent and ACTH-independent forms. ACTH-dependent Cushing's syndrome is a rare, serious endocrine disorder caused by excess secretion of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), most commonly from a pituitary tumor (Cushing's disease) and less frequently from an ectopic ACTH-secreting tumor.1 Elevated ACTH drives increased adrenal production of glucocorticoids, mineralocorticoids and androgens, disrupting normal physiological homeostasis. Of particular importance is sustained cortisol excess, which contributes to a considerable disease burden through metabolic, cardiovascular and neuropsychiatric complications and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality.1,2 Although existing medical therapies can reduce or control elevated cortisol levels, important treatment gaps remain.1,3 Achieving and maintaining adequate disease control can be difficult, with available therapies differing in their efficacy and potentially constrained by safety and tolerability considerations.4

Asedebart is a novel investigational monoclonal antibody targeting ACTH and is being developed for ACTH-dependent Cushing's syndrome. It is advancing in clinical development as a potential first-in-class treatment for rare conditions characterized by excess ACTH, with proof-of-concept trials ongoing in CD and classic congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) to evaluate efficacy and safety.5–8

With this designation, asedebart continues to build momentum with regulatory authorities across rare ACTH-driven disorders. Asedebart has also received orphan designation in the European Union for Cushing's syndrome of endogenous origin, in addition to previous orphan drug designations for CAH in the European Union and the United States, and for CAH and CD in Japan.6,9,10

"The FDA Orphan Drug Designation is an important step for asedebart and for Lundbeck's growing commitment to rare neuroendocrine disorders," said Tarek Samad, Executive Vice President and Head of Research & Development at Lundbeck. "ACTH-dependent Cushing's syndrome can be a devastating condition for patients, with long-term consequences that remain difficult to control despite available treatments. This milestone reflects the strength of the science behind asedebart's development to date and supports our ambition to advance innovative medicines in areas where patients continue to face significant unmet need."

Orphan Drug Designation is granted by the US FDA to drugs and biologics intended to treat, diagnose or prevent rare diseases or conditions. The designation may provide certain development incentives, including tax credits for qualified clinical testing, exemption from certain FDA application fees and, if approved, potential seven years of market exclusivity for the designated indication.11

Asedebart is an investigational compound that is not approved for marketing by any regulatory authority worldwide, and its efficacy and safety have not been established.

About asedebart

Asedebart is a humanized anti-ACTH monoclonal antibody that specifically recognizes ACTH with high affinity. It blocks the binding of ACTH to the melanocortin 2 receptor in the adrenal glands and thereby inhibits the neurohormonal signalling of ACTH. This inhibition reduces secretion of glucocorticoids, mineralocorticoids and androgens from the adrenal glands.12,13

ACTH plays a key role in the biosynthesis of adrenal steroids13 and is therefore considered a promising therapeutic target in conditions characterized by elevated ACTH levels. Through its mechanism of action, asedebart has the potential to treat conditions associated with chronically elevated ACTH levels, such as CD and CAH.

About ACTH-dependent Cushing's syndrome

ACTH-dependent Cushing's syndrome is a rare, serious endocrine disorder caused by excess secretion of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), most commonly from a pituitary tumor (Cushing's disease) and less frequently from an ectopic ACTH-secreting tumor.1 Chronic cortisol excess is associated with substantial disease burden, including metabolic, cardiovascular and neuropsychiatric complications, and is linked to increased morbidity and mortality.1,2 Surgery to remove the source of excess ACTH is the preferred first-line treatment when feasible; however, not all patients are eligible for surgery or achieve sustained remission. Current medical therapies can help manage cortisol excess, but disease control remains challenging and treatment options may be limited by variable efficacy, safety and tolerability.1,3

Cheerble Launches Wickedbone Air with App-Controlled Play and a Replaceable E-TPU Shell

HONG KONG, Sept. 11, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Cheerble today announced the launch of Wickedbone Air, an app-controlled interactive dog toy that gives owners an active role in the chase. Building on the original Wickedbone, introduced in 2018, the new model combines joystick control and automatic play with a replaceable E-TPU shell, a lighter body and updated Bluetooth connectivity.

Launching during Cheerble's tenth anniversary year, Wickedbone Air incorporates years of user feedback to make shared play and everyday upkeep easier.

Two Ways to Play, with Owners Part of the Experience

In Drive Mode, owners use the Cheerble App's virtual joystick to steer the toy in real time, changing direction and responding to their dog's movements. The result is a shared game in which owners guide the chase rather than simply watch.

Auto Mode combines built-in movement behaviors and touch responses for play without continuous steering, while owners remain nearby to supervise.

Built-in sound effects add an audible element to play. A separate Find Device feature activates a sound cue through the app to help owners locate the toy beneath furniture.

A Lighter Build with a Replaceable Outer Shell

The E-TPU outer shell is designed to absorb impact and help reduce noise on hard floors. At 8.7 oz (246 g), Wickedbone Air weighs 54 g less than the original model.

Owners can replace a worn shell separately while retaining the inner unit, making routine upkeep more practical. The modular design separates the replaceable exterior from the working core, allowing owners to refresh the surface their dog plays with without discarding the entire toy when that cover wears out.

A recessed charging port also eliminates the original model's separate removable cap.

Updated Connectivity and Continuous Automatic Play

Wickedbone Air offers a specified Bluetooth range of 20–50 meters, compared with under 20 meters for the original. App control uses a local Bluetooth connection; actual range varies with the environment.

Once Auto Mode is running, play continues if Bluetooth disconnects, so an automatic session does not require immediate reconnection.

Pricing and Availability

Following the opening of pre-orders on September 7, 2026, Wickedbone Air officially launches at cheerble.com on September 11 at an introductory price of USD 59.99 (MSRP: USD 65.99). Replacement shells are available separately at an MSRP of USD 19.99.

Good Greek Founder Spero Georgedakis Remembers Childhood Friend John Katsimatides on 25th Anniversary of 9/11
Image File

Katsimatides, a lifelong schoolmate of Georgedakis, was 31 when he was killed while working for Cantor Fitzgerald in the North Tower of the World Trade Center

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Sept. 11, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- As the nation marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, Good Greek Moving & Storage Founder and CEO Spero Georgedakis is honoring the memory of his childhood friend and longtime schoolmate, John A. Katsimatides, who was killed in the World Trade Center at just 31 years old.

For Georgedakis, September 11 has always carried a deeply personal meaning.

Georgedakis and Katsimatides grew up together as neighborhood friends and attended school together from kindergarten through 12th grade, sharing a friendship that began long before their adult lives and careers took them in different directions.

"John was one of us. The best," Georgedakis said. "We grew up together. We went through school together from kindergarten through high school, and those memories stay with you for life. When I think about September 11, I think about our country and everyone we lost, but I also think about John, my friend."

Katsimatides, a resident of East Marion, New York, was a bond broker with Cantor Fitzgerald and worked on the 104th floor of the World Trade Center's North Tower. Cantor Fitzgerald, whose offices were located on floors 101 through 105, lost 658 employees on September 11, more than any other single company.

Friends and family remembered Katsimatides as charismatic, generous and larger than life, with a strong devotion to his family, friends and Greek Orthodox faith. Contemporary remembrances described someone who had an extraordinary ability to make the people around him feel valued and included.

His name, John A. Katsimatides, is permanently inscribed on Panel N-39 of the North Pool at the National September 11 Memorial in New York City.

The milestone anniversary comes at an important point in the preservation of September 11 history. According to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, approximately 100 million Americans alive today are too young to personally remember the attacks, making the stories of those who were lost increasingly important to share with future generations.

The human toll has also continued long beyond September 11, 2001. As of August 31, 2026, the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund reported 9,780 deceased claims filed for victims who died as a result of eligible 9/11-related physical health conditions, more than three times the 2,977 people killed in the attacks themselves.

"Twenty-five years later, I want people to know John's name and know that he was more than a name on a memorial," Georgedakis said. "He was our friend. He was loved. He had an entire life ahead of him. Every person we lost that day had a story, a family and people who still carry their memory. That is what 'Never Forget' means to me."

On September 11, families will once again gather at the National September 11 Memorial to read aloud the names of those who were lost.

Among those names will be John A. Katsimatides.

Good Greek Moving & Storage will commemorate the 25th anniversary by honoring Katsimatides and sharing his story as part of the company's remembrance of all those whose lives were taken on September 11, 2001.

"For me, this anniversary is about making sure John and everyone we lost are remembered for who they were, not simply for how they died," Georgedakis said. "Twenty-five years later, I still remember my friend. We always will."

Avid and Google Cloud Expand Strategic Partnership to Deliver Browser-Based Media Composer and Agentic Creative Workflows

- New Chrome-based Avid Media Composer video editing and conversational media search built with Google Cloud's Gemini Enterprise help creative teams collaborate securely from anywhere

- Avid research shows editors embracing AI for practical tasks while overwhelmingly calling for technology that empowers creative control and efficiency

- New advances to be showcased for the first time at global media and entertainment event IBC2026 in Amsterdam (Sept. 11-14)

BURLINGTON, Mass. and SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 11, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Avid and Google Cloud today announced the expansion of their strategic partnership, introducing browser-based Avid Media Composer, the company's flagship video editing platform, and an upgraded Avid Content Core, Avid's content data platform. By embedding Google Cloud's Gemini Enterprise and Google BigQuery directly into Avid's post-production environment alongside media-specific AI agents and Avid tools, creators can remove the constraints of physical hardware and administrative friction. As a result, editors and directors can collaborate seamlessly from anywhere, automate repetitive tasks, and focus on storytelling.

Today's media production houses face two competing pressures: content demand is soaring, yet creative teams remain bogged down by administrative overhead. Editors often spend substantial portions of their day tagging footage, organizing timelines, and searching through fragmented archives. Furthermore, because professional editing historically required heavy, on-premises workstations, remote global collaboration has remained slow and cost-prohibitive.

New Avid research illustrates how editors are using AI to solve practical post-production challenges, helping tackle time-consuming tasks while preserving creative control. In a survey of professional editors, 79% reported using AI in their workflows, with speech-to-text and transcription cited as the most common use cases (60%). Editors are equally clear on AI's optimal role: 87% agree that AI is most valuable when empowering them to achieve their creative intentions more efficiently, while 76% say its best use is unlocking more time for storytelling. The findings also highlight the importance of integrating AI more seamlessly into established professional environments, with 63% emphasizing that AI tools require tighter workflow integration to be truly useful.

Building on milestones announced at the NAB Show in April 2026, the next phase of the Avid and Google Cloud partnership addresses these industry challenges directly. The expanded collaboration embeds Gemini Enterprise directly into Media Composer and Content Core to accelerate the creative process. By connecting an intelligent, searchable media archive directly to a browser-based timeline, the integrated solutions help streamline the industry's two most time-consuming bottlenecks: media discovery and timeline organization.

The joint announcement highlights four core pillars of technology integration:

- Browser-based Media Composer and agentic editing: Avid's industry-standard editing platform, now available within the Google Chrome browser, enables creators to edit professional timelines in Avid Content Core. Within Media Composer, agentic AI capabilities in Avid's Ready to Edit allow editors to use natural language prompts to sync media, transcribe and align dialogue, and organize project bins, putting the focus back on editorial storytelling. In addition, an embedded Media Composer Gemini panel allows editors to generate B-roll, find stock footage, and automatically enrich media with tagging, logging, or translation using their existing Gemini accounts.

- Semantic search in Content Core to speed up media discovery: Utilizing Google Cloud technologies to analyze and enrich media as it is imported, Avid Content Core and Gemini Enterprise automatically generate transcripts and semantic descriptions. This eliminates hours of manual logging and enables production teams to locate the exact media they need through natural language search.

- Connected workflows from newsroom to timeline: Through Content Core Insights—built with Gemini Enterprise and BigQuery—organizations can bridge the data gap between how content is produced and how it performs. Newsrooms can plan stories and assign teams in Content Core Planning and Rundown—which coordinate assignments, resources, and program rundowns—while editors can pull matching footage into their timelines via natural language search. Final cuts then sync back to broadcast programming, with each step reflected as live production data. Broadcast and studio executives can then query plain-language insights on staffing, resource utilization, production costs, and content performance, providing complete visibility to produce and monetize content.

- Flexible, secure hybrid cloud deployment: The Avid Content Core Site Engine links customer Google Cloud environments directly to Content Core, ensuring media processing, production intelligence, and agentic workflows are managed centrally, while compute and high-resolution assets remain securely in the customer's own cloud environment.

"Customers are asking for intelligent tools that plug seamlessly into existing workflows and scale with their creativity," said Wellford Dillard, chief executive officer of Avid. "Our expanded partnership with Google Cloud strengthens our ability to deliver secure, AI-driven innovation while keeping Avid open, interoperable, and adaptable. By bringing Media Composer to the browser and integrating Gemini Enterprise into Content Core, we are helping creative teams bypass administrative friction and focus on storytelling."

"Avid has always been a media technology pioneer, and this partnership solidifies its leadership in adopting advanced AI for film and television," said Anil Jain, global managing director of Strategic Industries at Google Cloud. "By integrating Gemini Enterprise with Avid's flagship tools, we are giving editors powerful agentic workflows and intelligent search to handle tedious production logistics. This collaboration ensures creators can stay in their creative flow and work securely from anywhere."

Avid and Google Cloud will demonstrate these end-to-end agentic workflows at IBC2026 in Amsterdam from Sept. 11-14, across the Google Cloud and Avid exhibition spaces.
