Sungrow Achieves World-First Wideband Oscillation Reproduction and Suppression at 500 MW Plant
Image File
Original HTML

HEFEI, China, Sept. 17, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Sungrow, a globally leading PV inverter and energy storage system provider, recently has achieved a world first by controllably reproducing and successfully suppressing wideband oscillation at a real-world 500 MW solar-plus-storage plant in Qinghai, China. The field test marks a major step toward addressing one of the long-standing challenges facing renewable power systems as renewable penetration continues to increase worldwide.

As renewable penetration rises worldwide, wideband oscillation has become a major challenge, with severe cases potentially causing renewable plants to disconnect from the grid or shut down. In 2014, the BorWin1 offshore HVDC project in Germany experienced oscillations at 250–350 Hz, which damaged filter capacitors on the offshore converter platform and led to a shutdown lasting approximately six months, causing substantial economic losses to the local utility. In 2019, the Hornsea offshore wind farm in the UK experienced widespread disconnection due to subsynchronous oscillation, resulting in a loss of approximately 3.2% of the system load and affecting around one million users. Past incidents have demonstrated the significant impact of oscillation-related events.

However, the complex and unpredictable nature of the phenomenon has made it difficult to safely and controllably reproduce oscillations at real-world plants and validate effective suppression methods in the field. As a result, research has largely remained at the theoretical and simulation stage, with limited systematic validation in actual power plant environments.

To bridge this gap, Sungrow and its industry partners conducted a field test at the plant, using Sungrow PV inverters deployed across the site.

Controlled Reproduction of Wideband Oscillation

The test established weak-grid conditions and identified three key contributing factors—power output, system short-circuit ratio (SCR), and control parameters—before successfully achieving controlled reproduction of a localized system oscillation.

Rapid Suppression of Wideband Oscillation

The field test evaluated the oscillation suppression performance of Sungrow's PV inverters under different grid conditions. Leveraging Sungrow's patented grid-strength adaptation technology, the inverters identified grid strength within 40 milliseconds, adjusted their control strategies accordingly, and rapidly stabilized voltage and frequency.

The test also validated the effectiveness of grid-forming control in suppressing wideband oscillation. Sungrow's grid-forming control strategy enables stable operation across a wide SCR range of 1~40 and effectively mitigates transient overvoltage.

By successfully reproducing and suppressing wideband oscillation at a real-world 500MW plant, the field test marks a critical step in moving wideband oscillation suppression from the laboratory into engineering practice, with the potential to improve the stability of renewable energy plants under extremely weak grid conditions, prevent grid disconnections caused by oscillations, unlock greater power export capacity for plants connected to weak grids, and reduce generation losses.

"For renewable energy to become a truly stable and reliable source of power, it is essential to develop autonomous fault self-healing and grid-support capabilities." Pan Nian'an, Chief Engineer and Chief Expert for Utility PV BU at Sungrow, said Sungrow will continue to advance research and development in grid technologies, focusing on key innovations including wideband oscillation suppression, grid-forming control, and multi-energy coordination. These efforts aim to support the stable grid integration and efficient utilization of renewable energy while strengthening the technical foundation for a secure and stable energy transition and next-generation power systems.

Google and Stegra in agreement for environmental attribute certificates

STOCKHOLM, Sept. 17, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Google has entered into an agreement with Stegra for the purchase of environmental attribute certificates (EACs) connected to Stegra's steel production in Boden, Sweden. These EACs help scale global supply for near-zero emission steel.

The agreement covers EACs for a volume of up to 91.000 tonnes of steel for the first year, with an ambition to add more volumes over the length of the agreement.

"Decarbonizing the most challenging sectors requires every tool in our toolbox. Alongside physical procurement, certificates are another vital mechanism. Having proven this model with clean electricity and expanded it to other areas like sustainable aviation fuel, we see green steel EACs as another promising lever to address industrial emissions and scale the clean technologies of the future," says Adam Elman, Director of Sustainability for Google in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

With these EACs, Google can address the steel-related emissions from its own operations, including the construction of datacenters. Google also contributes to generating increased cash flow to Stegra's early years of operations, and the ramp-up of production.

"There are some players globally that can help move markets towards decarbonized products in an impactful way. Google is naturally one such player. Beyond the call to action to increase the supply of sustainably produced steel, we are also grateful that the team at Google chose to work with Stegra and support our first years of operations in this way," says Henrik Henriksson, CEO Stegra.

Near-zero emission steel will initially be available at limited volumes and in few locations. Purchasing environmental attributes enables committed buyers to address their steel-related emissions, even when direct procurement of the physical product is challenging, due to factors like geographical separation or value chain separation.

This is also a mechanism that can support the scaling and financing of new industrial companies in clean tech, and the investment in new sustainable technologies.

This is made possible by decoupling the environmental attributes from the physical product, also known as "book and claim". The physical steel is delivered as steel without the environmental attributes, which are delivered separately through EACs.

Stegra applies book and claim to the non-prime steel it produces. Every steel mill produces some non-prime steel, but when you start a new steel mill, the share of non-prime steel is larger. This steel is made in the same process as the rest of the production, which in Stegra's case is with green hydrogen and renewable electricity. To ensure there is no double counting of emission avoidance, the buyer of the physical steel will be obliged to commit to not make any green claims.

TRAGIC CONFLICTS AND CLIMATE IMPACTS HAVE MADE THE CASE FOR THE ENERGY TRANSITION IMPOSSIBLE TO IGNORE

Generation Investment Management's 10th annual Sustainability Trends Report highlights how the energy shocks from tragic conflicts in the Middle East and Europe have strengthened the case for the clean energy transition, exposing the far-reaching economic, security and humanitarian consequences of continued reliance on fossil fuels

LONDON and SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 17, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Generation Investment Management, the sustainable investment manager, today published its 10th Sustainability Trends Report, an annual assessment of where the world stands in relation to a low-emissions economy and the broader sustainability transition.

Marking a decade since the report was first published, this year's edition explores how the disruption to global energy markets following conflicts in the Middle East and Europe has exposed the economic, security and humanitarian risks of continued dependence on fossil fuels. The report explains that recent extreme weather events have provided a visible reminder of the costs of climate inaction and assesses the progress and priorities shaping the sustainability transition across the Power; Transportation; Buildings & Industry; and People, Land & Food sectors; and how Financing the Transition is progressing.

Al Gore, Chairman of Generation Investment Management, said: "There's an old saying that the definition of insanity is repeating the same actions over and over and expecting a different result. Now that the world is in the midst of the second fossil energy crisis in four years, it has never been more clear just how insane it is for the world to perpetuate its dependence on oil, gas and coal. As high prices reward oil and gas executives with exorbitant profits, they leave consumers worldwide with skyrocketing costs on everything from fuel to food. Markets and governments are now waking up to the new reality: the clean energy transition is the best path for energy security, economic prosperity, and a safer and cleaner future. We see the energy transition not as a distant prospect, but as an urgent global imperative, driven by innovation, investment and a growing recognition that energy security, economic stability and climate action are, increasingly, one and the same."

FOSSIL FUEL DEPENDENCE HAS BECOME AN UNTENABLE STRATEGIC LIABILITY

The energy shock that reverberated around the world after Russia's invasion of Ukraine was not an anomaly. Four years later, the disruption to the Strait of Hormuz exposed the same structural vulnerability by bottling up a quarter of global seaborne oil trade, a third of global seaborne fertiliser trade and nearly a fifth of global trade in liquified natural gas.

The effects quickly spread far beyond energy markets. Shortages of critical materials such as helium disrupted semiconductor production and increased costs for healthcare providers reliant on MRI technology, while concerns over fertiliser supply raised risks for global food production. These vulnerabilities are compounded by the concentration of key commodity flows through a small number of exposed maritime chokepoints, creating risks that reverberate across the global economy.

Fossil fuel dependence, once seen primarily as an environmental challenge, is now increasingly understood as a question of energy security, food security, national resilience and the rising cost of living.

ENERGY SECURITY AND CLIMATE ACTION ARE NOW THE SAME IMPERATIVE

Energy security and climate action are no longer separate policy agendas. They increasingly require the same solutions. The strongest response to future crises is building economies in which fossil-fuel shocks matter less.

Fossil fuel systems remain inherently vulnerable to geopolitical shocks, trade disruption and price volatility. Renewable energy technologies, by contrast, convert an upfront investment into decades of energy production, reducing exposure to external disruptions over time.

This transition is already underway and consumers are responding. Electric-car sales in Europe rose 30 per cent in 2025. Separately, in the first quarter of 2026, Chinese exports of solar technology to Africa rose 120 per cent compared with the same period a year earlier. Heat-pump sales across 11 European countries increased by around 17 per cent over the same period, while sales of induction cookstoves in India rose tenfold. The lesson from recent years is that the best way to protect economies from fossil-fuel shocks is to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels altogether.

CHINA SITS AT THE CENTRE OF THE ENERGY TRANSITION

China is the fulcrum, simultaneously, of the fossil economy under pressure and of the renewable economy that is poised to replace it.

China remains the world's largest consumer of fossil fuels and the largest emitter of greenhouse gases, while also being the dominant producer of solar panels, wind turbines, electric vehicles and large-scale batteries. Chinese investment helped drive the cost of solar panels down drastically over two decades, accelerating the deployment of clean technologies worldwide.

The latest fossil energy shock provides a reminder of why countries around the world are accelerating the energy transition, not only to meet climate goals but also to strengthen long-term resilience. But if they buy all the needed kit from China, will they be trading one set of dependencies for another? Unlike fossil fuels, which require continuous imports and expose economies to ongoing price shocks, technologies such as solar panels can generate electricity for decades once installed, reducing rather than perpetuating external dependence.

Nor does China's current dominance mean permanent dependence. Europe remains a global leader in offshore wind, a sector that would not have reached scale without British and European investment. The think tank Ember estimates that, with the right policies, Europe could meet domestic demand for wind turbines, electric vehicles and heat pumps through its own manufacturing base. New capacity is also emerging across North America and India, creating a more diversified clean-energy supply chain over time.

While this capacity is emerging across Europe, North America and India, the energy transition will be faster, cheaper and more resilient if China and the West can sustain a constructive commercial relationship.

Accelerating trends across sectors and activities outlined in the report include:

Power

- The power grid is emerging as the real bottleneck of the power transition. Clean sources of electricity grew fast enough in 2025 to satisfy all demand growth on the global power grid, and then some. Solar output jumped by 30 per cent in 2025, while global battery-storage capacity additions rose at least 40 per cent, showing that clean power and storage are scaling rapidly, but grid infrastructure is now lagging behind the technologies it needs to connect.

Transportation

- The transition away from petrol-powered road transport has passed a critical tipping point. One in four new cars sold worldwide in 2025 had a power plug, and sales of petrol-only cars peaked in 2017 and will never recover to that level. While political opposition to electric vehicles is intensifying in some markets, many countries are determined to phase out petrol cars altogether. Furthermore, the economics and performance of the technology continue to drive adoption across both developed and emerging economies.

Buildings & Industry

- Heat pumps are emerging as a breakthrough technology for decarbonising buildings and industry. Long viewed as a solution for homes and offices, heat pumps are now reaching a scale capable of replacing fossil-fuel boilers in factories, with new projects in Finland, Germany and the United States using the technology to produce industrial steam and heat. The missing ingredient in the transformation of industry is public policy. Whereas many governments are finally pushing to clean up the electric grid and to clean up cars, efforts are inadequate for cleaning up industry.

People, Land & Food

- Food security remains deeply dependent on fossil-fuel supply chains and changes in weather. Synthetic nitrogen fertilisers underpinned food production for almost one in every two people worldwide, demonstrating how closely modern agriculture remains tied to fossil fuels and global trade. The Strait of Hormuz crisis has led to high prices and shortages of nitrogen fertiliser, offering a market opportunity for more environmentally benign alternatives.

Financing the Transition

- Capital is increasingly backing the energy transition over fossil fuels. Global clean-energy investment reached a record $2.2 trillion in 2025, roughly double the amount invested in fossil fuels. Yet despite this acceleration, the International Energy Agency estimates that meeting the global climate goal of limiting warming to 1.5°C requires clean energy investment to reach $4.5 trillion per year by the early 2030s. While there is momentum, we are only about halfway there.

Looking Ahead

- The world is becoming less stable and less predictable by the year. The heat accumulating across the Earth because of human-generated emissions continues to increase, with consequences including intense heatwaves, remarkably heavy rainfall and continued sea-level rise, all of which have been evident in recent years. At the same time, economic inequality has fed a growing public anger that, while justified in principle, has often been harnessed by populist political parties offering false solutions.

- Artificial intelligence is potentially the most profound disruption of the 21st century. While it is difficult to predict how disruptive the AI wave will be for society at large, AI could be a boon for the sustainability transition. On the one hand, it may help improve efficiency, eliminate waste and solve longstanding problems.

CookieYes Launches MCP Server to Manage Cookie Consent Inside Claude and ChatGPT

Manage banners, run cookie scans, and make approved updates from Claude, ChatGPT, or other AI assistants using simple prompts

MILTON KEYNES, England, Sept. 17, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- CookieYes, the consent management platform trusted by over 2 million websites, has released its Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. Customers can now check consent setups and make supported updates from AI assistants they already use, such as Claude and ChatGPT.

An MCP server connects AI assistants to external software so they can retrieve information and perform tasks. CookieYes uses this connection to let customers manage cookie consent through conversation, without switching tools or digging through dashboard settings.

Connect your CookieYes account to check banner status, review scans, and make approved updates.

Developers can retrieve installation code and check whether a banner is live. Marketers can review scan results before campaigns, while agencies can check banner status across client websites in a single request. Users can also run scans or update banner colours, layouts, positions, and preference-centre styles.

For example: "Check my websites and tell me which ones have an inactive cookie banner."

The server provides ten tools, seven of which are read-only. The three that trigger scans or change banner settings show the proposed action and require approval.

"Our focus has always been to make consent easier to set up and manage," said Anvar T.K., CEO of CookieYes. "We built the MCP server to give customers a simpler way to check their websites, find what needs attention, and make updates from the AI tools they already use."

Authentication uses OAuth 2.1 with PKCE, and MCP access must be enabled by the account owner. Connected AI assistants can read limited banner configuration and scan metadata, but cannot retrieve personal data, consent records, cookie values, credentials, billing information, or account member details. Account owners can disable MCP access entirely or disconnect individual AI clients at any time, from the CookieYes dashboard or from the AI client's own settings.

The MCP server is available on every CookieYes plan, including free.

ACG METALS LIMITED ACG Delivers Material Uplift in Gediktepe NPV to US$1.2bn ACG Metals Limited

LONDON, Sept. 17, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- ACG Metals Limited (LSE: ACG) ("ACG" or the "Company") announces updated Mineral Resource and Ore Reserve estimates and the publication of an updated Competent Person's Report for its Gediktepe mine (the "2026 CPR").

The updated estimates are derived from the technical work underpinning the 2026 CPR . The full 2026 CPR has been prepared by SRK Consulting (UK) Ltd. ("SRK") in accordance with the (2012) Australasian Code for Reporting of Exploration Results, Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves (the "JORC Code 2012"). The CPR is expected to be published within 30 days and will be made available on the Company's website.

Highlights

- The 2026 CPR reports a total asset post-tax NPV8 of approximately US$1.2 billion, compared with the project NPV10 of $265m reported in the 2024 CPR.

- Gediktepe's average annual production is expected to increase by c.60% to c.36 kt CuEq between 2027 to 2031 compared with the original 20–25 kt CuEq target.

- H1 2026 oxide production has already exceeded full-year guidance, with further ounces expected before year end. FY2026 production guidance has been revised to approximately 12–14 kt CuEq, reflecting a three-month rephasing of sulphide production into FY2027 as management follows a deliberately measured and risk-managed commissioning schedule. The slower ramp-up prioritises safe, reliable plant performance and is designed to provide a robust foundation for sustainable long-term production. The rephased sulphide volumes remain within the updated mine plan set out in the 2026 CPR.

- Over the initial life of mine of 11 years, Gediktepe is expected to produce a total of 352kt CuEq.

- The 2026 CPR mine plan significantly increases value added over the same mine life, which in turn dramatically enhances the total asset NPV.

- Total Ore Reserves tonnage increased by c.43% to 26.5 Mt in the 2026 CPR from 18.5 Mt in the 2024 CPR.

- The 2026 CPR in-situ Ore Reserves contain 176kt copper, 381kt zinc, 535koz gold and 20moz silver, representing increases of approximately 34%, 1%, 19%, and 16%, respectively, versus the 2024 CPR Reserve estimate.

- The enriched ore treatment project is expected to add approximately 84kt CuEq to the life of mine production profile, which was not included in the 2024 CPR. An improved construction schedule has replaced the original phased development approach, bringing forward previously deferred value from base metals and enhancing the total post-tax asset NPV8 by $365m. Production is expected to start online in Q3 2027.

- Heap-leach gold production is expected to continue beyond end-2026, supported by ACG's patented recovery technology, which has increased commercial gold recovery to approximately 85%, together with re-leaching and heap turning.

- The revised operating plan described in the 2026 CPR provides increased flexibility to optimise production and maximise value across the Gediktepe orebody.

Notes:

- Average annual CuEq production in the 2026 CPR is calculated using varying annual commodity price assumptions for the period 2027–2031, with average prices of US$4,240/oz Au, US$59/oz Ag, US$12,527/t Cu and US$2,969/t Zn.

- The updated FY2026 production guidance of 12–14 kt CuEq is based on expected oxide production of approximately 19.8 koz Au and 330 koz Ag, and expected sulphide production of approximately 3.8 koz Au, 234 koz Ag, 2.2 kt Cu and 4.0 kt Zn. CuEq is calculated using assumed commodity prices of US$4,400/oz Au, US$60/oz Ag, US$14,230/t Cu and US$3,835/t Zn.

Artem Volynets, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ACG, said:

"Two years ago, Gediktepe was primarily a short-life gold operation with an unfunded plan to transition into copper production. Today, following significant investment and operational improvements, we have transformed the asset into a fully funded, copper-producing operation with three complementary processing streams, supported by precious metals and zinc production and a materially larger production profile.

The 2026 CPR reflects the value created through that transformation: a larger reserve base, a stronger and more flexible mine plan, and the ability to recover value from ore sources that were not captured in the previous plan. With the sulphide plant now in ramp-up, the enriched ore project advancing and further oxide optionality available, Gediktepe has evolved into a substantially broader and more valuable operation.

Our focus is now on disciplined execution of this plan and delivering the production and cash flow potential of the asset."

Artem Volynets, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, and Patrick Henze, Chief Financial Officer, will provide a live presentation via Investor Meet Company on 22 September 2026 at 16:00 BST.

- Reserves have been defined according to definitions in JORC Code (2012)

- Reserves are effective as at 31 July 2026

2026 CPR

The 2026 CPR reflects the Gediktepe mine's transition from oxide gold and silver production to copper and zinc concentrate production, the planned enriched ore treatment project and the extension of heap leach facility production. It was prepared by SRK with an effective date of 31 July 2026 and supersedes the previous Competent Person's Report dated 20 August 2024 (the "2024 CPR").

Sulphide Processing Plant

The 2026 CPR replaces the development assumptions in the 2024 CPR with the constructed sulphide plant configuration and the current ramp-up plan. ACG produced first copper concentrate from Gediktepe on 31 August 2026. Ramp up is progressing as planned and the operation is progressing towards full commercial production by the end of 2026.

The 2026 CPR reflects the constructed plant and current ramp-up plan, including nameplate throughput of 1.8mtpa, copper recovery of 72%, zinc recovery of 75% and payable production averaging 36ktpa CuEq per annum between 2027 and 2031.

Enriched Ore Treatment Project

The enriched ore treatment project will process stockpiles and enriched ore material not included in the 2024 CPR Ore Reserve or Mineral Resource Estimates to produce gold, silver, copper and zinc.

The initial two-phase development plan for the enriched ore treatment project, announced in November 2025, targeted gold and silver production from phase 1 in Q4 2026, followed by copper and zinc concentrate production from phase 2 by Q1 2029. An improved construction schedule has replaced the original phased development approach, bringing forward previously deferred value from base metals, enhancing project value and enabling gold and silver doré and copper and zinc concentrate production to come online concurrently in Q3 2027.

The Enriched Ore Project is expected to recover approximately 84kt CuEq over its initial life, while providing flexibility to process feed from multiple sources and increasing operational optionality. The 2026 CPR includes the Enriched Ore Project in the base case and assumes throughput of up to 800 ktpa of ore, recoveries of 86% Cu, 63% Zn, 77% Au and 75% Ag, initial capital expenditure of US$60.4 million and operating costs of US$40.2/t.

Engineering and procurement advanced during H1 2026, with key crushing and grinding equipment purchased and earthworks and geotechnical drilling commenced.

Notes:

- Enriched ore operating costs include mining and rehandling, processing, freight, G&A, and royalties

Heap Leach Facility

At acquisition, production from Gediktepe's oxide ore was expected to end in 2026. ACG has since improved heap-leach performance through a proprietary recovery process, increasing commercial gold recovery from c.75% to c.85%, reducing cyanide consumption by c.45% and shortening leach cycles. The process is patented in Türkiye, with applications progressing in 35 other countries.
