New Release Connects Courses to Skills, Captures Learner Perspectives, and Delivers Actionable Skills Reporting

CHICAGO, Sept. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Explorance, a leading provider of learning measurement and feedback solutions, announced today the release of Metrics That Matter (MTM) 10.0, a major platform update designed to help learning and development teams prove their training programs are closing organizational skills gaps.

As organizations increasingly prioritize workforce skills development, L&D teams need clearer ways to understand which capabilities their learning programs are designed to develop, and whether learners believe they gained them. MTM addresses this need by enabling organizations to build structured skills taxonomies, map courses to the skills they develop, capture learner-reported skills data, and turn that information into actionable insights.

"With MTM 10.0, we're executing on our vision to empower L&D leaders and teams to build critical skills, show business value, and make smarter investments that support their organization's strategic objectives," said Steve Lange, General Manager of Explorance Metrics That Matter. "The shift toward skills-based measurement isn't just about adding capabilities to a platform, it's about giving learning teams the tools they need to prove their programs are developing the competencies their organizations depend on."

Connecting Learning to Skills at Scale

MTM 10.0 introduces comprehensive skills measurement capabilities that allow organizations to:

- Build structured skills taxonomies with Skills and Skill Categories, including 30 standard benchmarkable categories

- Map courses to skills to directly associate learning experiences with the competencies they develop

- Manage skills at scale through bulk Excel-based administration of skills and course mappings

- Capture learner perspectives with a new Skills question type that automatically pulls from course-mapped skills

- Analyze skills data through new dashboard widgets showing top skills by course, top courses by skill, and learner response patterns

- Export skills data via Data Extract for deeper analysis across the organization

"Measuring skills is critical because it's the bridge between learning activity and business impact, said Michael Rochelle, Chief Strategy Officer and Principal Analyst, Brandon Hall Group. "When L&D leaders can demonstrate which capabilities their programs are building, they can show how learning directly supports workforce performance and strategic business objectives. This is how learning organizations transform from cost centers into strategic partners that drive organizational success."

From Activity Measurement to Skills Impact

The release marks a fundamental shift from measuring learning activity, participation, completion, and satisfaction to understanding how learning builds the capabilities organizations need.

Availability

MTM 10.0 is available now to all Explorance MTM customers. For more information about MTM and its skills measurement capabilities, learn more by reading Steve Lange's Skills framework or see Skills in action by requesting an MTM demo.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Sept. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Howard and Georgeanna Jones Foundation for Reproductive Medicine ("Jones Foundation") is pleased to announce that Dr. Georgeanna Seegar Jones was one of ten trailblazing women inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame on September 24, 2026. The biennial Induction Ceremony stands as a national beacon of inspiration, illuminating stories that too often go untold and ensuring they take their rightful place in our shared history. Since 1973, the National Women's Hall of Fame has honored distinguished American women whose achievements have shaped our world.

As a young medical student at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1938 Georgeanna Seegar was the first to demonstrate that the pregnancy hormone, human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is produced by the placenta rather than the pituitary gland. In 1949, as the Director of the Laboratory of Reproductive Physiology at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Jones further determined that the lack of the hormone progesterone during a critical phase after ovulation was significant and treatable.

Years later when Dr. Jones entered the in vitro fertilization (IVF) field in the late 1970s, she applied her successful infertility protocol of menopausal gonadotropin plus chorionic gonadotrophin therapy to IVF techniques, greatly increasing the success rate of IVF, revolutionizing the treatment of infertility and resulting in the birth of America's first IVF baby born in l981, Elizabeth Carr. Her research helped lay the foundation for IVF, establishing key clinical protocols that continue to influence IVF practice today.

Robert W. Jones, Chairman of the Jones Foundation commented, "Dr. Georgeanna Jones, along with her husband and partner, Dr. Howard W. Jones, Jr., transformed the treatment of infertility in the United States. The Jones Foundation, founded in l984 by these remarkable physicians, is rightfully dedicated to funding the most innovative and promising studies across the United States. In honor of Dr. Georgeanna Jones, whose achievements shaped the world of reproductive medicine, we will continue to invest in career scientists and physicians, ensuring they can continue their work and grow within this vital area of research."

In honor of Dr. Jones's remarkable career and induction into the National Women's Hall of Fame The Howard and Georgeanna Jones Foundation for Reproductive Medicine in collaboration with the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) is offering a $100,000 grant – The Georgeanna Seegar Jones, MD, Women of the Hall Investigative Scientist Award. The purpose of the grant is to support an innovative research project dedicated to improving the assisted reproductive technology techniques necessary for in vitro fertilization, including bridge funding. Additional information including applications guidelines can be found at the Jones Foundation website: www.jonesound, or the ASRM website: www.asrm.org

About The Howard and Georgeanna Jones Foundation For Reproductive Medicine

The Howard and Georgeanna Jones Foundation for Reproductive Medicine was founded by IVF pioneers Dr. Howard W. Jones, Jr. and Dr. Georgeanna S. Jones who established the first in vitro fertilization program in the United States, the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine. The Jones institute was responsible for the first American born IVF baby in l981.

The Howard and Georgeanna Jones Foundation for Reproductive Medicine is a 501(c)(3) organization that solicits funds from the general public to support scientific and medical research and education in the field of reproductive medicine. In addition to providing research grants to deserving scientific investigators, the Foundation Board of Directors is prepared to serve in an advisory capacity to the agencies it supports. The Foundation may also sponsor seminars or other educational activities designed to evaluate public policy issues related to reproductive medicine in order to educate the general public and attempt to improve the human condition.

Carbon's Foundational Dual-Cure 3D Printing Patent Upheld on Appeal at the European Patent Office

EPO Board of Appeal rules for Carbon on its foundational dual-cure 3D printing patent, rejecting a competitor's challenge

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Carbon, a leader in 3D printing technology, today announced that a Board of Appeal of the European Patent Office (EPO) has rejected a competitor's challenge to one of Carbon's foundational dual cure patents, upholding the broadest claim of Carbon's European Patent No. 3158400. The decision affirms the earlier EPO Opposition Division decision maintaining claim 1 and restores additional dependent claims that had been removed during the original opposition proceeding.

Carbon's dual-cure technology, which enjoys worldwide patent protection and is used by top brands across the globe, has revolutionized the production of 3D printed additive manufacturing products. By combining light-based printing with a secondary thermal curing reaction, Carbon's technology can produce parts with properties tailored to the application needs including parts having engineering-grade strength, elasticity, durability, and temperature resistance. This unique patented innovation supports critical end-use production applications in automotive, dental, medical, and consumer products.

"This decision confirms the strength and breadth of the innovation that is foundational to Carbon's platform. Dual-cure chemistry enables the production of high-performance end-use products that previously were difficult or impractical to produce with other 3D printing technologies. We will continue to invest in and protect our innovations as we advance digital manufacturing," said Philip DeSimone, CEO of Carbon.

Carbon was represented in the proceedings by Mairi Rudkin and Donald McNab of Marks & Clerk, and is globally represented in patent prosecution matters by Myers Bigel and in patent litigation matters by Kathi Vidal and Dustin Edwards of Winston Taylor.

About Carbon, Inc.

Carbon, Inc. is a Silicon Valley-based additive manufacturing company pioneering digital production at scale. Its Digital Light Synthesis™ technology, based on its patented dual-cure chemistry, combines light-based 3D printing with programmable resins to produce durable end-use parts with engineering-grade properties. Through its materials science, hardware, and software platform, Carbon partners with global brands to create high-performance, customized products that were previously impossible to manufacture. City of Oakland Kicks Off Second Annual Oakland Tech Week

The Mayor's Office joins Kapor Foundation, HiiiWAV, and Northeastern University Oakland to kick off a week of 80+ events spanning education, innovation, arts, and community across Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The City of Oakland today kicked off Oakland Tech Week 2026 at "Responsible Innovation: A Vision for Oakland's Future," the opening event of a citywide week of 80+ events hosted by a coalition of 30+ Oakland organizations. The opening featured a keynote address from Lisa D. Cook, a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. Held at the Kapor Center, the gathering brought together the Mayor's Office and Kapor Foundation, alongside philanthropy leaders, investors, founders, and community partners to connect national trends with Oakland's local context setting the tone for a week built on a single premise: that Oakland can chart a path forward for responsible and equitable innovation that is built with intention to benefit Oaklanders.

Produced by HiiiWAV, the Oakland artist-led nonprofit, Oakland Tech Week runs September 27 through October 3 under the theme "Culture, Code, and Community." Alongside partners including the City of Oakland and Northeastern University Oakland, Oakland Tech Week will be spotlighting leaders and initiatives developing talent, mobilizing advocacy groups, supporting mission-driven entrepreneurs, and driving economic development and well-being for Oakland families. In its first year, Oakland Tech Week drew more than 4,200 participants to 40+ events with 70+ speakers, and was recognized by a Mayor's Proclamation. This year roughly doubles the programming, with attendance expected to surpass the inaugural event.

This week comes at a moment of rapid change in how technology is built and who benefits from it. Artificial intelligence is reshaping education, the workforce, the economy, and civil and human rights, and the choices made today about how it is designed and deployed will determine who benefits tomorrow. This gives Oakland a timely opportunity to lead the nation in responsible, equity-centered AI, building on Oakland's legacy of resistance, fights for equity and justice, and deep community and cultural ties advanced here for years.

"Oakland has always been a place where community and creativity drive progress," said Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee. "Opening Oakland Tech Week reflects our belief that a thriving innovation economy and strong, healthy communities are built together and result in good paying, local jobs. We're proud to open this week alongside partners who are making sure the benefits of technology reach the people who call Oakland home."

"AI is dominating headlines and promising either life-changing breakthroughs or massive disruption and destruction," said Allison Scott, CEO of the Kapor Foundation. "We believe that we will only see the benefits of this technological advancement when responsible AI innovation is driven by community voice and participation – not dictated to them. Oakland has a real opportunity to demonstrate what responsible and equity-centered AI looks like, and we look forward to advancing this work together."

"Oakland Tech Week is different from other tech weeks because we put creatives and impact organizations at the center," said Bosko Kante, Founder and Executive Director of HiiiWAV. "It is a way to lift up responsible uses of AI and give this community real access, education, and investment around technology. Oakland's culture, its civic life, and its technology are the same story, and for one week we tell it in one place."

"Preparing the next generation to build technology responsibly starts in the classroom," said Carrie Maultsby-Lute, Head of Partnerships at Northeastern University's Oakland campus. "We're proud to host Oakland Tech Week's convening on ethical computer science and AI education, because the students learning these tools today are the ones who will decide how AI serves communities tomorrow."

Monday's opening leads into more than 80 events across the week, largely produced by community partners throughout the city. Highlights include an education-focused convening on ethical computer science and AI education across the state of California with place-based examples at Northeastern University Oakland (Tuesday, September 29); the Beyond Big Tech panel on movement-building and grassroots organizing led by Media Justice featuring leading AI experts such as Dr. Timnit Gebru and Alex Park at the Kapor Center (Wednesday, September 30); Oakland Ballers Founder's Day at Raimondi Field bringing 100+ investors and founders including Oakland Ballers' Paul Freedman (Friday, October 2), and a discussion on shifting power of the AI ecosystem featuring renowned scholar and author Dr. Safiya Noble (Friday, October 2). Additional notable events include Omidyar Network's Oak x Tech featuring discussions on young people and AI, the future of work, and tech policy featuring Assemblymember Buffy Wicks (Thursday, October 1) and San Francisco Foundation's For Us, By Us: Funding Community-driven Tech initiatives (Saturday, October 3).

The citywide closing celebration will bring a family-friendly finale featuring HiiiWAV Fest at the Henry J. Kaiser Center with multi-disciplinary hackathons, a community tech fair, and a headlining performance by Bay Area artist-entrepreneur E-40 with The Soul Slappers, the NPR Tiny Desk band (Saturday, October 3). A full schedule is available at oaklandtechweek.com.

As AI reshapes the economy, the week positions Oakland and the broader region as a hub for innovation that centers the well-being and dignity of its communities. Oakland Tech Week 2026 is supported by sponsors including Google for Startups, the Center for AI Safety, the San Francisco Foundation, Gerbode Foundation, Alameda County, Kaiser Permanente, Omidyar Network, the University of California Office of the President, and the Henry J. More Than a Stylus: How Hands-On Experiences Are Changing the Way Consumer Electronics Are Presented

BERLIN, Sept. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- At IFA 2026 in Berlin, visitors encountered the usual showcase of processors, displays, connected devices and technical specifications. But at the Metapen booth, the emphasis was less on watching technology and more on using it.

The approach reflects a broader change in consumer electronics. As products become more sophisticated, specifications alone do not always communicate their value. For many consumers, the first few seconds of using a product can be more revealing than a presentation.

A stylus is a good example. Its physical form is familiar, but its applications extend beyond traditional writing. Children can draw and explore digital creativity; students can take notes and annotate documents; professionals can sketch ideas, sign documents or work directly on a tablet.

At Metapen's IFA booth, one young visitor provided a simple illustration. A girl picked up a stylus and began interacting with the screen while her family watched nearby. There was no complicated explanation required. She simply started creating.

That interaction highlights an important principle in product design: technology does not always need to demand attention. When a stylus responds naturally, users can focus on what they want to write, draw or create rather than on how technology works.

Metapen has built its business around the stylus category, developing products for devices including iPad, Surface and Chromebook. Its lineup covers everyday digital writing as well as pressure-sensitive applications for drawing and creative work. The company focuses on making digital writing and creation more accessible through functionality, design and affordability.

This positioning reflects how the stylus market is evolving. Rather than treating a pen simply as an accessory to a tablet, Metapen presents it as part of the user experience—the point where hardware, software and human creativity meet.

The opportunity goes beyond the stylus. As digital learning, work and creative activities become part of everyday life, products that make technology feel more natural can play an increasingly important role.

IFA remains a place for companies to demonstrate technical innovation. But moments like the one at Metapen's booth suggest another way of evaluating technology: not only by what is inside a product, but by what happens when someone picks it up for the first time.

Sometimes, the most convincing product demonstration is simply watching someone use it—and enjoy the experience.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation Announces 2026 National Civics Bee® Championship // America's Top Young Civics Minds Take the National Stage Live on C-SPAN

Students from all 50 states, Washington, D.C. and American Samoa will compete in nationally televised championship for a chance to win $100,000

Hosted by Jerry O'Connell – Wednesday, October 14 at 8 pm ET

WASHINGTON, Sept. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Fifty-two of the nation's top middle school civics students will come together in Washington, D.C. on October 14 for the third annual National Civics Bee Championship — a fast-paced, live competition testing their knowledge of American government, the Constitution and the civic challenges facing their communities.

Finalists from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and American Samoa will compete for the national title — and, for the first time, the championship will be televised and streamed live on C-SPAN, bringing the excitement of the competition to a nationwide audience.

The 2026 National Civics Bee Championship, presented by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, will air Wednesday, October 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET and will be hosted by Emmy-nominated actor and game show host Jerry O'Connell.

The live championship is the culmination of a nationwide competition that this year engaged more than 20,000 students from 240 communities across the country. Students advanced through rigorous local and state competitions organized in partnership with chambers of commerce nationwide.

Along the way, students tackled critical issues in their own communities — including youth mental health, screens in schools, food insecurity, affordable housing, wildfire preparedness and financial education — demonstrating not just what they know about civics, but how civic knowledge can be applied to real-world challenges.

As the United States marks its 250th anniversary, the championship will showcase a new generation of young Americans learning how government works, engaging with the issues around them, and discovering the role they can play in their communities and country.

"Civics is the operating system for the 21st century. Democracy and the economy both run on it. These kids already understand that. Watch the broadcast and you will too," said Michael Carney, President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.

"Civics comes alive when young people understand not only how our democracy works, but how they can take part in it," said Sam Feist, CEO of C-SPAN. "These 52 students represent the very best of that spirit. They've earned their way to Washington from communities across the country, and now they'll put their knowledge, ideas and skills to the test live on national television. It's going to be smart, fast-paced and fun to watch — and we're proud to bring their remarkable achievement to audiences across America."

Championship Showcases Future Leaders

Across several rounds challenging their knowledge, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, these bright young minds will compete to become the next National Civics Bee Champion and win the Bill Daniels National Civics Award and a $100,000 529 education savings plan.

The finalists will be tested during a team presentation, a multiple-choice round, a head-to-head gauntlet, an interview round, and a high-stakes final buzzer round.

While in Washington, DC, students will also visit institutions in the nation's capital and engage with leaders who shape American policy and governance.

Launched in 2023, the National Civics Bee has rapidly grown into a nationwide movement, bringing together students, parents, educators, business leaders and public officials to elevate civics education as a national priority.

Last year's championship crowned Aarit Koul, a student from Jackson Township, Ohio, as America's second National Civics Bee champion.

Watch the Championship, Apply for 2027

The 2026 National Civics Bee Championship will take place at 8:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, October 14, in Washington, D.C., and will be broadcast LIVE on C-SPAN, live-streamed on C-SPAN.org and YouTube.

Hilary Crow serves as executive producer. Steven Raff and Caitlin Thomas are co-executive producers, Brian Rokus is producer, and Howard Lutt is director.

HelloNation Article Featuring Custom Apparel Printing Expert Kernell Miller Explains What Businesses Should Know Before Ordering Custom Shirts
Image File
Original HTML

The article outlines how planning, artwork preparation, and shirt sizing can improve the experience for custom apparel orders for events and organizations.

BUFFALO, N.Y., Sept. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- What should organizations know before ordering custom shirts for a business event, fundraiser, or promotional campaign? HelloNation has published an article that answers this question, drawing on insights from Kernell Miller of Custo Print in Buffalo, New York.

The article explains that successful custom shirts begin with understanding how the apparel will actually be used. Different situations require different materials, styles, and printing methods. A staff uniform designed for daily wear may require stronger fabric and long-term durability, while custom t-shirts intended for a fundraiser or community event may prioritize comfort, visibility, and affordability.

According to the HelloNation article, organizations often underestimate the amount of planning required for effective branded apparel. Shirts frequently serve multiple purposes beyond displaying a logo. They may help customers identify employees at a company event, foster unity among volunteers at a fundraiser, or enhance public visibility during community outreach activities. As a result, choices about fabric weight, shirt color, and logo placement can influence how professional the final product appears.

The article notes that lightweight cotton materials often work well for outdoor summer gatherings, while blended fabrics may better support long-term wear and repeated washing. These decisions can impact both comfort and appearance long after the event concludes. The article also explains that many Buffalo organizations benefit from treating custom shirts as part of a larger event strategy rather than as a last-minute purchase.

Artwork preparation is another major topic covered in the article. The HelloNation article explains how low-quality images can cause delays and reduce print clarity. Logos copied from screenshots or social media pages often lose detail when enlarged for custom t-shirts or branded apparel. Preparing high-resolution files or vector artwork before production begins can help avoid unnecessary revisions and improve print accuracy.

The article also emphasizes the importance of accurate shirt sizing for large-group orders. Businesses and community groups sometimes underestimate the range of sizes needed for employees, volunteers, or attendees. Ordering too few options in both larger and smaller sizes can leave participants without usable shirts at a company event or fundraiser. Gathering complete counts early and ordering extra inventory can reduce confusion and help organizations stay prepared for unexpected additions.

Timing is another factor the article examines closely. Last-minute custom shirt orders may limit the availability of shirt colors, material choices, and printing options. Rush production schedules can also increase the likelihood of mistakes during artwork approval and quantity planning. The article explains that allowing time for revisions, proofreading, and production often leads to more polished results.

The HelloNation article further explains that clear communication during production can improve efficiency for Buffalo organizations planning large apparel orders. Establishing a single primary contact for approvals and updates can help prevent conflicting instructions and reduce delays. Teams are encouraged to finalize logos, confirm shirt sizing totals, identify preferred shirt styles, and establish realistic delivery timelines before submitting an order.

The article also discusses how branded apparel may continue representing a business or organization after the original event has ended. Employees often continue wearing staff uniform apparel after conferences, outreach programs, and promotional campaigns conclude. Choosing comfortable, practical custom t-shirts increases the likelihood that the apparel will remain useful rather than go unused or be discarded.

The article concludes that thoughtful preparation usually leads to stronger results for organizations ordering custom shirts. By planning early, carefully confirming details, and considering how apparel will function beyond a single company event or fundraiser, organizations can improve both presentation and long-term usability.

What Should You Know Before Ordering Custom Shirts for an Event or Business features insights from Kernell Miller, a Custom Apparel Printing Expert in Buffalo, New York, on HelloNation.
