Agreement adds 17 SCREENX auditoriums in the U.S. and three in South and Central America

Six U.S. locations slated to open in 2026, bringing Cinemark's domestic SCREENX footprint to 30 in time for Avengers: Doomsday

BURBANK, Calif., Sept. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- CJ 4DPLEX, the world's leading producer of premium cinema formats and immersive theater experiences, and Cinemark, one of the world's largest and most influential theatrical exhibition companies, today announced an agreement to add 20 new SCREENX auditoriums across Cinemark's global circuit, including 17 in the U.S. and three in Latin America. The expansion builds on a partnership that began in 2022 and will further extend the immersive panoramic format to moviegoers throughout the Americas.

"As consumer demand for premium, immersive moviegoing experiences continues to grow, Cinemark remains focused on bringing our guests the most exciting and engaging ways to enjoy movies on the big screen," said Sean Gamble, Cinemark's President and CEO. "We are pleased to expand our SCREENX footprint to additional Cinemark locations across the U.S. and Latin America as part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing the theatrical experience through innovative entertainment options. This investment further strengthens our premium amenities portfolio, giving moviegoers even more reasons to choose Cinemark."

"SCREENX continues to grow as more filmmakers and exhibitors embrace its creative possibilities," said Jun Bang, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX. "The response to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, our first 'Shot for SCREENX' film, demonstrates the power of creating an experience specifically for the format. Our expansion with Cinemark will bring SCREENX to more audiences as we build on that success. We plan to release at least four 'Shot for SCREENX' films with major Hollywood studios in 2027."

Six of the new U.S. auditoriums are scheduled to open in 2026, expanding Cinemark's domestic SCREENX footprint to 30 in time for Avengers: Doomsday. The expansion will also introduce SCREENX's panoramic viewing experience to audiences in new states.

"Cinemark has been a critically important partner in SCREENX's growth since our first locations opened together in 2022," said Don Savant, President and CEO of CJ 4DPLEX Americas. "This agreement reflects Cinemark's continued investment in distinctive theatrical experiences. We are particularly excited to bring SCREENX to Cinemark's Playa Vista theater, providing a convenient location for studio executives, filmmakers and talent on the Westside of Los Angeles to experience the format's creative possibilities firsthand."

E Ink and ANREALAGE Debut Color-Changing Dresses at Paris Fashion Week

Garments unite traditional textile craftsmanship with dynamic materials to explore color, movement, and the future of fashion

BILLERICA, Mass., Sept. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- E Ink, a pioneer and leading global developer of ePaper technology, announced a creative relationship with ANREALAGE, the avant-garde Japanese fashion house founded by designer Kunihiko Morinaga. Through the collaboration, ANREALAGE incorporated E Ink Prism™ 3 into six color-changing dresses in its Spring/Summer 2027 "SKIN" collection, presented during Paris Fashion Week on September 29.

The collaboration brings together traditional textile craftsmanship and modern material technology. Known for challenging conventional ideas about form, perception, and materials, Morinaga used E Ink Prism to push conventionally static fashion to a new dimension—one in which movement is expressed not only through the shape of a garment, but also through its changing appearance.

For the ANREALAGE collection, each color-changing dress features approximately 1,000 to 2,000 individual E Ink Prism pieces. Arranged in a scale-like pattern, the elements work together to create additional outfits out of a singular garment. As a result, the technology provides a sustainable way to multiply the creative possibilities of an individual piece.

Following their Paris Fashion Week debut, a selection of the E Ink garments will be presented as part of the "JUST AN REAL AGE" exhibition in Paris from October 2–5, 2026, at 76 Rue de Turenne, 75003 Paris. The public can also view the craftsmanship up close at select E Ink shows in 2027, including COMPUTEX 2027 and InfoComm 2027.

Transforming Materials Through E Ink Prism

E Ink Prism is a dynamic material technology that brings programmable color and pattern surfaces of all shapes and sizes – from color changing cars, automotive interiors, fashion accessories, handbags, and more. Unlike traditional light-emitting displays, E Ink technology is reflective, relying on ambient light to make colors visible. Its bistable properties allow an image to remain in place without continuously consuming power. Energy is only required when the display changes.

"ANREALAGE has a long history of combining craftsmanship, technology, and imagination in ways that challenge how we see everyday materials," said Naoki Sumita, President of E Ink Japan. "That ethos closely aligns with E Ink's vision of transforming traditionally static surfaces into dynamic, expressive experiences. This collaboration demonstrates how E Ink Prism can unlock new possibilities for personalization, movement, and visual expression."

West Virginia Bail Process Explained in HelloNation Article Featuring Criminal Defense Attorney Frank Walker
Original HTML

The article outlines options for people who cannot afford bail and explains how courts evaluate release decisions.

MORGANTOWN, W. Va., Sept. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- What happens when someone cannot afford bail in West Virginia? HelloNation has published an article that answers this question by explaining how the West Virginia bail process works and the options available to defendants facing financial challenges.

The article focuses on situations where individuals cannot afford bail and explains how courts determine release conditions. It describes how bail is intended to ensure a defendant returns to court and to protect public safety, rather than to serve as punishment. The HelloNation article explains that judges consider factors such as criminal history, community ties, and risk of flight when setting bond.

The article notes that families often feel uncertainty after an initial bond is set. When bail amounts are high, financial strain can quickly become a concern. The HelloNation article explains that the West Virginia bail process is designed to evaluate risk rather than a person's financial status, though the cost of bail can still create challenges for many households.

A key section of the article explains the difference between cash bonds and surety bonds. A cash bond requires full payment of the bail amount, while a surety bond allows a defendant to pay a smaller, nonrefundable fee through a licensed bondsman. The article describes how this option can make release more accessible for those who cannot afford bail upfront. Criminal defense attorneys often help individuals understand how these choices affect both short-term release and long-term financial impact.

The HelloNation article also highlights the importance of bond reduction hearings. These hearings give the court an opportunity to review updated information, including employment, health conditions, and family responsibilities. The article explains that this process allows judges to reconsider whether the original bond amount remains appropriate given the defendant's current situation.

Another option discussed in the article is pretrial release with conditions. In some cases, the court may allow a defendant to return home without posting bail if certain requirements are met. These conditions may include regular check-ins, drug testing, or electronic monitoring. The article explains that this approach can help individuals maintain employment and family responsibilities while still complying with court expectations.

The article emphasizes that remaining in custody is not the only possible outcome when someone cannot afford bail. The West Virginia bail process includes several mechanisms that allow for adjustments as new information becomes available. Criminal defense attorneys often work within this framework to present relevant details that may support a change in release conditions.

The HelloNation article also addresses the emotional impact of bail decisions. Families may feel overwhelmed when faced with financial pressure and uncertainty about what steps to take next. The article explains that understanding the available options, including surety bonds and bond reduction hearings, can help reduce confusion and provide a clearer path forward.

The article concludes that the West Virginia bail process is structured to balance fairness with public safety. It explains that judges continue to evaluate each case as it develops, and that financial hardship does not eliminate the possibility of release. By understanding how the system works, individuals can better navigate the process and respond to changing circumstances.

2027 Jeep® Cherokee Trailhawk: Off-Road Prowess, Adventure, and Efficiency All Come Standard

2027 Jeep® Cherokee Trailhawk: Off-Road Prowess, Adventure, and Efficiency All Come Standard

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ --

- 2027 Jeep® Cherokee Trailhawk debuts Trail Rated® capability with authentic off-road performance, including class-exclusive two-speed PTU and Jeep Active Drive II with Electronic Locking Rear Axle

- Exclusive elements include aggressive front and rear fascias for improved approach and departure angles, red tow hooks, skid plates, off-road suspension and 17-inch all-terrain tires with 1-inch lift

- Cherokee Trailhawk delivers hybrid efficiency and best-in-class off-road capability to deliver one-of-a-kind Jeep brand experience

Engineered to elevate the nameplate to new heights, the 2027 Jeep® Cherokee Trailhawk arrives to stake its ground: adventure and efficiency - with authentic off-road capability only the Jeep brand provides. With an estimated 31 MPG combined, and best-in-class off-road specifications, Cherokee Trailhawk exemplifies the do-it-all, modern-day SUV.

"Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk is the real deal, and earned its Trail Rated badge through a gauntlet of testing scenarios," said Branden Coté, Jeep brand CEO. "This SUV blends authentic 4x4 off-road capability that the Trailhawk badge represents, and with hybrid efficiency that is so important to customers in this segment."

Cherokee Trailhawk: What's in the Trail Rated Badge

For well over a decade, the Trailhawk badge has always signified the most advanced 4x4 systems, innovative suspension technologies, and purpose-built design - and Cherokee was one of the first Trailhawk models from the Jeep brand. Trail Rated pushes Jeep brand vehicles to the limits across numerous parameters, including conquering some of the world's most challenging environments.

For the 2027 Cherokee Trailhawk, engineers brought the SUV to some of the harshest environments to go well beyond what the average customer will encounter. This includes validation trips to some of the most challenging environments in the Southwest of the U.S.

Engineers tested the new Cherokee Trailhawk at Sand Hollow for superb slickrock and sand performance on underbody and sensitive components; in Moab, Cherokee Trailhawk took on some of the most well-known off-road elements to dial in the articulation, ground clearance, traction, and more.

The takeaway is an SUV that boasts the following best-in-class specs:

- Standard approach angle of 28.8 degrees

- Departure angle of 31.8 degrees

- Ramp breakover angle of 21.9 degrees

The Cherokee Trailhawk is also the only SUV in its class to offer a water fording rating depth of 24 inches. Atop this, it boasts an impressive 9-inch ground clearance with a 1-inch lift. The suspension lift, coupled with unique spring and damper tuning, results in a 45-point Ramp Travel Index improvement over other Cherokee models - the standard test for suspension flexibility and axle articulation.

The off-road engineering behind these stats rests on Jeep's legendary Active Drive II 4x4 system with Lock Mode, and Cherokee Trailhawk's standard, class-exclusive two-speed power transfer unit with a 2.92 low range ratio and 37.5:1 crawl ratio. Unlike rival SUVs, climbing steep, loose, and rocky surfaces is a simple task without the driver needing to ride the brakes, and torque delivery is superb when off-road. If the trail gets gnarly, standard steel skid plates protect the front axle, wiring and fuel tank, along with a protection plate for the hybrid battery.

Selec-Terrain modes are standard with five unique settings:

- Auto

- Sport

- Snow

- Sand/Mud

- Rock

Rugged Looks to Match True Capability

Cherokee Trailhawk draws on 50 years of design lineage with a style ready for the trail. Building upon its upright character and simple, squared-off shapes, designers took a closer look at the Cherokee's front fascia. The fascia is unique to the Trailhawk model and finished in a gloss black upper fascia. These changes not only bring a unique style to the Trailhawk model but also help it achieve its impressive off-road specs, including best-in-class approach and departure angles.

Class-exclusive tow hooks, finished in red, are also equipped on the front and rear of the Cherokee Trailhawk. The hood sports an anti-glare Trailhawk graphic to also compliment the Trailhawk badging at the rear of the vehicle. Finally, contributing to the Cherokee Trailhawk's rugged looks and capability are two unique 17-inch wheel designs wrapped in Nexen Rodian ATX all-terrain tires measuring 245/65R17.

The Cherokee Trailhawk's interior introduces an exciting new motif with premium Mantis Green upholstery with red accent stitching and embossed logo. Additionally, designers further elevated the finishes with a unique shift-dial finish in Black Spun Aluminum. Cherokee Trailhawk also gains a unique Radical Red bezel around the transmission dial found on some of the most-capable trims across the Jeep lineup, including Wrangler Rubicon.

Well-Equipped for the Adventure Ahead

Every Jeep Cherokee comes extremely well equipped with a roster of comfort, safety, and convenience features as standard, including a driver's side 10.25-inch digital cluster and 12.3-inch infotainment screen. Cherokee Trailhawk bundles some of the most desired equipment in parallel with its off-road gear with most Overland content. This includes:

- 1.6L Turbo Hybrid with 210 horsepower

- LED headlamps and taillamps

- Fog lamps

- Gloss Black front upper fascia and rear liftgate accent

- Power driver and front passenger heated Seats

- Heated steering wheel

- Foot-activated power liftgate

- Memory seating and mirrors

Three optional packages are available for customers to add even more to their Cherokee Trailhawk: a Sun and Sound package, with Dual-Pane Sunroof and Premium Alpine Audio System, a trailering package for Cherokee's unsurpassed 3,500-pound towing figure, and the Advanced Pro Tech Group. The latter includes features such as ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, front and rear camera washers, and a 360-degree camera.

Availability

The 2027 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk enters production later this year. Production will take place at Stellantis' Toluca Assembly Complex. Customers are able to place orders for their vehicles starting now. Prices for the 2027 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk start at $44,625, including a $1,995 destination charge.

Boats Group Data Shows Most Repeat Boat Buyers Switch Brands
Image File
Original HTML

Analysis of more than 2.5 million boats finds limited brand loyalty, highlighting the opportunity for manufacturers to stay relevant throughout the ownership journey

MIAMI, Sept. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- New analysis from Boats Group reveals that repeat boat ownership is a significant part of the recreational marine market—but returning to boating rarely means returning to the same brand.

Drawing on ownership records for more than 2.5 million boats across Florida, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia, Boats Group identified approximately 637,000 repeat owners—owners associated with two or more boats—to better understand how consumers move through the boating market over time.

The analysis found that just 6% to 13% of repeat buyers stay with the same manufacturer on their next boat, a pattern that was remarkably consistent across the states studied. Buyers show greater loyalty to boat type than brand, but even then, most move into a different category.

The findings point to an increasingly important opportunity for marine manufacturers: staying relevant to owners between purchases, as they research and consider what comes next.

"Repeat ownership represents a meaningful part of the boating market, but the next purchase is far from guaranteed for any one brand," said Claire Look, Head of Data, at Boats Group. "Owners are reconsidering manufacturers, boat types, and whether to buy new or used. For OEMs, that makes the entire ownership journey important—not just the moment when someone is ready to transact."

Repeat Owners Are a Significant Part of the Market

Across the four states analyzed, approximately 637,000 owners were associated with two or more boats. Repeat owners represented 25.6% of owners analyzed in Florida, 31.3% in Ohio, 20.6% in Virginia, and 18.0% in Texas.

Yet previous ownership appears to provide manufacturers with relatively little built-in advantage when that owner returns to the market. Across all states studied, only 6% to 13% stayed with the same manufacturer for their next boat.

Personal watercraft is the notable exception. Owners of Yamaha, Sea-Doo, and Kawasaki products showed some of the strongest same-brand repeat behavior, and those brands also appeared frequently among common cross-shopping combinations.

The Next Boat Is Up for Grabs

For manufacturers, low brand loyalty changes the importance of the period between purchases.

Marine marketing has traditionally concentrated significant resources around dealerships, boat shows, and other environments close to the transaction. Those remain important parts of the buying experience, but consumers begin researching and considering their options well before they reach that point—and much of that discovery and research now happens online.

That means manufacturers are competing for the next purchase long before a buyer walks into a dealership or attends a boat show.

Dealers play an essential role in local marketing and converting demand, but the findings underscore the opportunity for manufacturers to take greater ownership of how their brands, models, and boat types are represented throughout the research journey. With nearly nine out of 10 repeat buyers choosing a different manufacturer, relying on previous ownership or dealer-level advertising alone risks missing the period when buyers are forming their next consideration set.

"Boat shows and dealerships are often where the purchase comes together, but the decision-making process starts much earlier," said Look. "Manufacturers have an opportunity to stay in front of owners while they are exploring what's next—building awareness and consideration for their brands and products before buyers narrow their choices."

Boat Type Loyalty Is Stronger Than Brand Loyalty—But Most Buyers Still Switch

The Florida data provides an even deeper look at how preferences vary across boats.

Approximately 23% of repeat buyers stayed within the same boat class, roughly twice the rate of manufacturer loyalty. Still, more than three-quarters moved to a different boat category.

Center consoles stand out in Florida as both the most common first boat and the most common repeat boat, making the category an important entry point and a frequent choice for subsequent ownership.

The level of category switching also broadens the competitive landscape for manufacturers. The next purchase may not simply be a choice between competing brands in the same segment; an owner may be considering an entirely different type of boat as their needs and time on the water have evolved.

The Path From Used to New Isn't Linear

The research also challenges the conventional idea that boat ownership follows a predictable progression from used to new.

Among repeat buyers who started with a used boat, 70% purchased used again, while only about one in nine moved from used to new on their subsequent purchase.

Perhaps more surprisingly, buyers who began with a new boat were more likely to move in the opposite direction: approximately 45% purchased used the next time.

The findings suggest that subsequent purchases are not necessarily a straightforward "trade-up." Buyers may be changing boating activities, adding another boat, or looking for a different combination of features, price, and use case.

For manufacturers and dealers, that makes understanding what an owner wants to do next more important than assuming where they will go based on their previous purchase.

Not Every Repeat Purchase Is a Return Trip

The analysis also uncovered an important distinction in repeat purchasing behavior.

Among personal watercraft and jet boats, approximately 60% of paired purchases occurred on the same day, suggesting that many represent simultaneous purchases—such as multiple personal watercraft for a household—rather than an owner returning to the market after several years.

More traditional sequential purchasing is more prevalent among categories, including center consoles, bass boats, and cruisers, where owners typically return to the market after a multi-year period.

In Florida and Virginia, that interval is generally around three to four years. Texas records show a longer interval of approximately seven years, although differences in the way Texas registration records are captured make direct comparisons with other states less precise.

For manufacturers, those multi-year ownership cycles create a significant window in which preferences can change, new products can enter the market, and competing brands can gain consideration.

Staying Relevant Between Purchases

Taken together, the findings point to a boating consumer whose journey is far more fluid than traditional loyalty models might suggest.

Owners move between manufacturers, boat categories, and new and used inventory. In many cases, years pass before the next purchase. And when buyers do return, most are open to a different brand.

For marine manufacturers, that makes the period between transactions an important part of the customer journey. Maintaining a direct connection with owners, building visibility for new models and boat types, and showing up during the online research process can help manufacturers remain in the consideration set well before a buyer reaches the dealership or boat show.

The analysis is part of Boats Group's ongoing work to provide the recreational marine industry with a clearer understanding of boat shoppers, owners, and marketplace behavior.

Created with input from runners, the personalized Swiss Made timepiece connects the marathon's Greek origins with Philadelphia's history and each finisher's own race

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- AXIA Time (AXIA), creator of heirloom-quality, Swiss Made timepieces that honor life's defining achievements, today unveiled the Official Timepiece of the 2026 Philadelphia Marathon Weekend. Built on AXIA's 38 mm ENOSI design, the automatic watch was created with input from Philadelphia Marathon Weekend runners to commemorate America's 250th anniversary and the training, commitment, and support behind race day.

The finish line lasts a moment, but everything it takes to reach it stays with a runner: the early mornings, the long runs, the setbacks, and the decision to keep going. Feedback from Philadelphia Marathon Weekend participants helped shape the watch's size, styling, personalization, and gifting experience, creating a timepiece for runners marking their own finish and for the people who shared the journey with them.

The blue dial draws from the Marathon's red, white, and blue identity. The Philadelphia Marathon Weekend logo appears in polished steel at 12 o'clock, while the America250 logo at 6 o'clock marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. "Marathon 490 BC" and "Philadelphia 2026" connect the race's Greek origins with the city where each runner's finish takes place. A red second hand and a Liberty Bell on the crown carry the Philadelphia Marathon Weekend's identity into the watch's smallest details.

The engraved caseback features the race map framed by a Greek key pattern, connecting the origins of the marathon with AXIA's own Greek heritage. Buyers may personalize the engraving with the runner's name, bib number, official finish time, or another short detail meaningful to the race. The Swiss Made timepiece is powered by a Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement and includes a 316L stainless steel bracelet and color-matched rubber strap. The first 250 pieces will be individually numbered.

"Every runner reaches the start line with a story that began long before race weekend," said John Kanaras, founder and CEO of AXIA Time. "The finish is for every 5 a.m. start, every long run, and every person who helped make it possible. We wanted to create a watch that could hold that meaning and give runners and the people who love them a lasting way to remember what it took to get there."

"The Philadelphia Marathon Weekend is inseparable from the city around it, from the course and its landmarks to the crowds that line the streets," said Kathleen Titus, Race Director. "AXIA has translated that sense of place into a keepsake runners can personalize and carry beyond race weekend. We look forward to sharing it with participants and their families at the Expo."

At the Philadelphia Marathon Weekend Expo at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, AXIA will invite visitors to experience the watch through an installation themed "Every Second Got You Here." Visitors can participate in a time-based challenge for prizes, plus recognize runners and their loved ones through a message wall titled "This Finish Is For…" Orders of the first 250 pieces placed before and during the Weekend Expo will include guaranteed holiday delivery.

The Official Timepiece is also available for pre-order at axiatime.com with complimentary personalization and, for a limited time, a walnut display box; runners may submit their official finish time after the race if they choose to include it as part of their engraving.

The partnership expands AXIA's portfolio of commemorative timepieces for defining achievements in sport. AXIA's portfolio includes FIFA World Cup 2026™ and College Football Playoff Official Licensed Product timepieces, as well as official timepieces for the Heisman Trophy and the Tewaaraton Award.

Firestone Partners and Matterhorn Venture Partners Acquire Multi-Tenant Industrial Property in Marietta, GA

ATLANTA, Sept. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Firestone Partners ("Firestone") and Matterhorn Venture Partners ("MVP") are pleased to announce the acquisition of a 14,400-square-foot, six-suite small-bay industrial building at 4710 Ecton Drive in Marietta, GA, within the supply-constrained Woodstock/Canton submarket of North Atlanta. It is the partnership's second acquisition in the Atlanta industrial market, following 1717 Koppers Road in Conley, GA.

Built in 1986 on 1.27 acres, the property offers 16-foot clear heights, a drive-in door for each suite, and direct access to the I-75/I-575 corridor. Firestone sourced the building off-market from a local family that had owned it for nearly 40 years. Concurrent with closing, the partnership executed a new lease for the building's two vacant suites, delivering 100% occupancy at closing.

The business plan includes a targeted capital program, including a roof replacement, interior and exterior paint, white-boxing of the warehouse, minor office upgrades, and deferred maintenance. These improvements will modernize the building and enhance its long-term marketability.

"4710 Ecton Drive is exactly the type of asset we target: functional, well-located infill shallow-bay product in a segment of the Atlanta market where zero new supply is being built," said Michael East, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Firestone Partners. "Our team has spent years acquiring and operating this product type across the Southeast, and leasing the building's two vacant suites alongside the acquisition allowed us to deliver a fully leased, de-risked asset from day one."

"Our second acquisition with Firestone reflects the momentum of this partnership," said Matt Kay, Principal and Co-Founder of Matterhorn Venture Partners. "Firestone sourced this opportunity off-market and delivered it fully leased at closing, which is exactly the local execution we look for in a partner. Small-bay industrial is core to MVP's strategy nationally, and we look forward to continuing to build a Southeast portfolio alongside the Firestone team."

About Firestone Partners

Firestone Partners is an Atlanta-based real estate investment firm focused on acquiring and operating infill shallow-bay industrial properties throughout the Southeast. Founded by former investment professionals from Blackstone, Link Logistics, and Stonelake Capital Partners, Firestone combines more than 20 years of institutional underwriting discipline with local market expertise and a hands-on operating approach. The firm's principals have been involved in more than $10 billion of real estate transactions, financings, and capital markets activity and have overseen approximately 5 million square feet of shallow-bay and infill industrial assets. Firestone targets undercapitalized and operationally complex properties where active asset management, leasing execution, and targeted capital investment drive long-term value.

Active across Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia, Firestone welcomes new acquisition and recapitalization opportunities. Brokers, owners, and prospective partners can reach Michael East at [email protected].

Biopharma Companies Must Break the DMTA Linearity, Says Zifo
Image File
Original HTML

New position paper calls for Design-Make-Test-Analyse workflows to evolve from linear and sequential processes, into a connected network where scientists can do what they need when they need to, scientific knowledge is captured and context travels with every sample, result, and decision.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. and CAMBRIDGE, England, Sept. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Biopharma companies must break a recurring theme of disconnected experiments, fragmented evidence, manual reconciliation, and repeated context reconstruction that is slowing learning across the scientific value chain, according to Zifo.

Zifo describes the pattern as the 'DMTA doom loop', a fundamental flaw in the Design-Make-Test-Analyse process in which scientific process is forced into a linear execution model -- rather than adapting and changing based on what is required. In its position paper, The Billion-Dollar Bottleneck: Why CMC Is Strangling the Biopharma Pipeline, Zifo calls for the DMTA process to evolve from a linear sequence of handoffs into a connected scientific network where steps can be done in any order, repeated as required and where the scientific context travels with every sample, result, and decision. https://zifo.com/cmc-million-dollar-bottleneck-biopharma/

When Every Experiment Begins with Reconstruction

Design-Make-Test-Analyse should create an interconnected learning cycle network. Each experimental result should add to the organization's understanding of the relationship between materials, process conditions, equipment, analytical outcomes, product quality, and manufacturing performance.

In many CMC environments, however, evidence is distributed across scientific applications, instruments, spreadsheets, reports, PDFs, batch records, presentations, and individual expertise. Scientists may need to locate data, reconcile sample identifiers, reconstruct experimental histories, and recover the reasoning behind earlier decisions before they can interpret results or design the next experiment.

The position paper argues that the underlying problem is not merely fragmented data. It is the loss of scientific context and decision knowledge as data passes between systems, teams, and lifecycle stages. When results become separated from their samples, methods, process conditions, and decision history, the DMTA cycle may continue operationally but without functioning effectively.

At the core of this broken DMTA process is a failure of scientific user experience. The biopharma industry has often engineered IT ecosystems to satisfy retrospective compliance and data architecture needs, while making the scientist's daily workflow much more difficult. To transform CMC and science, the enterprise must rethink scientific user experience.

Faster Handoffs Do Not Necessarily Create Faster Learning

The position paper cautions against addressing the problem by simply digitizing existing workflows or adding another isolated application.

Moving an inefficient process from paper or spreadsheets into a rigid digital template does not necessarily deliver transformational impacts. It can produce a faster version of the same fragmented process while encouraging scientists to create workarounds outside governed systems.

Breaking the typical sequential process therefore requires more than automating individual steps. It requires reimagining the current DMTA sequential process as an end-to-end scientific workflow into a connected network.

Under the proposed model:

- Scientists and engineers can move and jump between steps as required.

- Relevant historical data and evidence is available when experiments are designed.

- Experimental intent and process context remain connected to samples.

- Test results retain their relationship to methods, conditions, and materials.

- Analytical outputs can be interpreted alongside prior evidence.

- Decisions are captured and remain traceable to the results and reasoning behind them.

- New knowledge becomes available to subsequent experiments and downstream teams.

These principles reflect the paper's proposed shift from isolated systems toward connected scientific context and from a linear baton pass toward an agile DMTA network.

An Orchestration Layer Centered on the Scientist

Rather than proposing a single monolithic platform, the position paper calls for an orchestration layer that connects scientific activity across existing systems of record.

This environment should adapt to scientific process without replacing validated core systems. It should bring together the evidence and context required for a task, allow information to be captured and reused across any step in the DMTA network, and reduce the burden placed on scientists to navigate applications and reconstruct relationships manually.

Reimagining the scientist user experience (UX and UI) means abandoning bloated, all-encompassing rigid linear workflow templates in favor of small, modular, adaptable functional components based on critical capabilities that are adapted to fit the scientists' needs. The scientist requires a digital canvas that supports the immediate workflow in front of them while adapting as their science demands evolve.

The position paper also proposes governed Scientific Language Models (ScLM) grounded in proprietary scientific evidence. Used within a connected and appropriately governed environment, these models could help organizations to capture and interact with their scientific knowledge while maintaining traceability to the underlying evidence.

From Completing Experiments to Compounding Knowledge

A connected DMTA network changes the objective from moving an experiment through separate functional stages to increasing organizational knowledge with every experiment or test.

This requires collaboration across CMC, process development, analytical development, quality, manufacturing, IT, data, and scientific informatics. It also requires organizations to prioritize the scientific and operational choke points where reconnecting evidence and context can produce meaningful value.

The position paper recommends targeted integrations and lighthouse implementations rather than a wholesale replacement of the existing technology estate. This allows organizations to begin with high-value workflows and expand the model within existing brownfield environments.

A scientist should not be forced through every stage if it is scientifically unnecessary. If contextual data already exists in the foundational layer, the researcher could move directly from Design to Analyse. Alternatively, they can move from Analysis into wet-lab execution because the underlying knowledge base is already contextualized and available. This fluidity breaks the linear delay of the traditional value chain and allows scientists to navigate the lifecycle as the biological problem demands.
