SK chemicals Builds Regional Circular Economy Models for Waste Banners

- Establishes a circulation system covering the entire life cycle of waste banners, from collection to recycling and product manufacturing

- Recycled materials converted into feedstock are turned back into banner fabric and supplied to local communities

SEOUL, South Korea, Oct. 6, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- SK chemicals is moving to build a collaborative framework for a circular economy for waste banners.

SK chemicals announced on 6th that it has formed the Waste Banner Resource Circulation Consortium with MOA, Daehan Media, Upcloth, and the Resource Circulation Team of Seogwipo City, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, and is launching full-scale collaboration. The consortium was established following the challenge on waste banner processing and circular economy development that SK chemicals put forward at the Solveathon idea competition, held in conjunction with the Social Value Festa and hosted by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

The four participating organizations will each take charge of collecting waste banners in their respective regions, while drawing on their individual expertise in areas such as pre-processing, distribution, and sales to build, together with SK chemicals, the entire process spanning recycling, product manufacturing, and distribution.

By region, MOA and Daehan Media will be responsible for collecting waste banners in the Gyeongsang region, Upcloth in the Honam region, and Seogwipo City in Jeju. Upcloth, which has experience operating collection and sorting systems based at local Self-Sufficiency Centers, will also pursue local job creation by employing participants in self-sufficiency programs and people with disabilities.

Waste banners collected through the four organizations' collaboration will be sent to MOA, which specializes in pre-processing, to be processed into a form and quality suitable for chemical recycling. They will then be converted into feedstock using SK chemicals' depolymerization technology and transformed into materials that can once again be used to make banners. Daehan Media will take part as the production partner for the chemically recycled banner fabric, supplying it to each region through its nationwide sales network.

Seogwipo City, the only local government among the participating organizations, will also work on establishing the necessary institutional framework so that the entire cycle, from the collection of waste banners to the reuse of chemically recycled banners, can be completed within the region.

The company estimates that more than 1,000 tons of waste banners are generated each year in the Gyeongsang, Honam, and Jeju regions participating in the project. It expects that once resource circulation systems for waste banners are established in each region through this project, the volume of waste banners sent to landfills and incinerators will be significantly reduced, and the foundation for resource circulation will be expanded.

Because banners are typically used only once for events, elections, and similar purposes, most have been landfilled or incinerated after a short period of use. To address the waste problem, efforts have been made to upcycle waste banners into products such as tote bags and waste collection bags, but critics have pointed out that these, too, amount to no more than one-time recycling.

According to the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, approximately 6,000 tons of waste banners are generated in Korea each year, and about 70% of them are reportedly landfilled or incinerated.

The initiative is significant in that it tackles the waste banner problem by building a sustainable structure in which waste banners are turned back into banners through depolymerization technology. SK chemicals' depolymerization technology breaks waste plastics down to the molecular level, returns them to feedstock, and then repolymerizes them. Unlike conventional mechanical recycling, which involves shredding, washing, and remelting waste, depolymerization converts waste into feedstock through a chemical process, structurally eliminating the effects of prior use, color, and impurities. As a result, while mechanical recycling is currently limited to high-quality waste streams such as clear PET bottles, depolymerization makes it easier to recover resources from a wide variety of waste plastics, including textile-based waste banners. In addition, because quality does not degrade even after repeated recycling, it is regarded as a technology ideally suited to recycling waste banners.

Through the consortium, SK chemicals aims to build a new model for region-based waste banner circulation, in which waste generated in a region is turned back into resources within that same region. The company plans to establish and standardize provincial-level collection and sorting systems for waste banners, along with the institutional foundation to support them, taking into account each region's characteristics and existing collection systems. It then intends to expand its reach by replicating this model in other regions.

A representative of SK chemicals said, "Waste banners are a waste issue that most local communities are grappling with, but each region's circumstances and approaches differ to some extent. Through collaboration with the participating organizations, we will broaden the scope to the metropolitan and provincial level to build waste banner circulation systems, and create real success stories of turning waste banners back into banners."

Meanwhile, SK chemicals has been steadily expanding its cooperation with local governments to establish a stable collection and recycling system for waste banners. Starting with a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on waste banner resource recovery signed with the City of Gunsan and Revelop in August 2024, the company went on to sign MOUs with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the cities of Sejong, Gangneung, Cheongju, Naju, and Changwon in June 2025, and with the City of Seoul in August of the same year. In addition, together with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, it held an open call for ideas on building a nationwide supply chain through the 2026 Solveathon for Overcoming Regional Decline, broadening its search for partners to include the private sector.

OpenSSF Shares Expanded Membership and New Global Policy Resources During Community Day Europe

Four new members and significant CRA resources released by the Foundation as systemic collaboration on open source security gains momentum

PRAGUE, Oct. 6, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Open Source Security Foundation (OpenSSF), a cross-industry initiative of the Linux Foundation focused on sustainably securing open source software, today announced new membership growth, welcoming A-Team Systems, Emphere, DACHS IT GMBH, and JetBrains to the foundation. The OpenSSF also notes new and renewed efforts to deepen Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) preparedness, in both the EU and beyond, releasing guides, user journeys, and a case study.

Regulatory pressure grows for companies selling products to the EU, as the mandatory vulnerability and incident reporting aspect of the CRA came into effect last month. Clear, direct, and easy-to-understand guidance on this global legislation is critical, especially with AI significantly hastening vulnerability discovery and reporting. With bugs easier to find and reporting windows shrinking, OpenSSF continues to serve as a trusted, neutral hub for CRA education, collaboration, and security.

"Securing the open source ecosystem is no longer just about patching isolated vulnerabilities. It requires proactive, systemic collaboration across the entire industry," said Steve Fernandez, General Manager of OpenSSF. "Initiatives like the Open Secure AI Alliance and pioneering projects such as Akrites reflect this critical shift. We are moving beyond fragmented defenses and building a unified front, equipping the global developer community with the comprehensive frameworks needed to secure the next generation of software. OpenSSF and our members are a key element in this shift."

New OpenSSF members include A-Team Systems, Emphere, DACHS IT GMBH, and JetBrains who join the Foundation as General Members. These organizations join a community of working groups, technical groups, and experts that are shaping the future of OpenSSF and software security. Their membership has a direct impact on the long term sustainability of open source and the projects that are critical to modern infrastructure.

Q3 Foundation Achievements

In addition to membership growth in the third quarter of 2026, OpenSSF achieved the following milestones:

- Publication of the CRA Readiness practitioner's guide — OpenSSF published practical compliance guidance for the EU Cyber Resilience Act. With CRA obligations now legally live, this guide converts policy analysis into actionable steps for maintainers and vendors who must comply. OpenSSF also released a CRA Readiness User Journey to support greater preparedness around the important regulation, regardless of where an organization is starting.

- CRA case study: 1,400 upstream fixes from Ericsson — Ericsson Software Technology eliminated private forks and contributed over 1,400 dependency updates and security fixes upstream to meet CRA obligations, guided by OpenSSF principles. This case study is concrete proof that "fix it upstream, not in a fork" scales at enterprise level — behavior that fosters a more secure software supply chain.

- User Journeys for role-based security — OpenSSF rolled out role-based "User Journeys," for security practitioners looking to find the right guidance and resources. These curated navigation paths for developers, security engineers, OSPO leaders, marketers, and executives ensure that the right information makes it into the hands of those that seek it out.

- OpenBao v2.6 release — A new version of the open source secrets management tool shipped with per-namespace sealing and a new workflow engine for cross-plugin communication.

- BOMHort joined OpenSSF Sandbox — A new Kubernetes-native SBOM visualization and governance tool entered the OpenSSF Sandbox. As SBOMs shift from best practice to regulatory requirement (CRA, NIST SSDF, EO 14028), tooling that helps teams actually manage and query SBOMs at scale, not just generate them, fills an important security gap.

Supporting Quotes

"Open source software has been central to our work supporting Linux and FreeBSD systems in critical production environments for more than two decades. We depend on the security work happening throughout the open source ecosystem. OpenSSF provides part of the foundation that makes secure, reliable production operations possible. Joining OpenSSF reflects our commitment to materially supporting the people who make open source what it is today. We look forward to contributing an infrastructure operations perspective and supporting the important work OpenSSF is doing across the open source community."

– Adam Strohl, President, A-Team Systems

"Virtually every critical enterprise builds on an open source foundation. When everyone relies on the digital common ground, maintaining its safety is a shared responsibility. Securing the supply chain helps ensure that open-source software remains safe, trusted, and open for everyone. Through our continuous work in the Linux Foundation and CNCF, we've helped build cloud-native ecosystems. Now, through OpenSSF, we're expanding our work to help protect and nurture the security foundation they rely on."

– Alexander Schaber, Founder and CEO, DACHS IT GMBH

"Open source is shared code, and so is the responsibility to secure it. Emphere is glad to join OpenSSF to help the community outpatch attackers, human and AI alike."

– Ankit Kumar, CEO, Emphere

"Software development is at an inflection point. AI is changing how software is built and creating new security challenges, making it more important than ever that developers can understand, verify and trust the software they produce. JetBrains has supported professional software development for more than two decades, and we believe staying ahead of these challenges is best done collaboratively and in the open. OpenSSF brings together some of the strongest expertise in the industry, and we are glad to join the community and help shape the future of secure software development."

– Katherine Druckman, Head of Community and Partnership Engagement, JetBrains

Bringin Introduces Euro Business Accounts for Companies Adopting Bitcoin, Without Taking Custody of Their Bitcoin

Buying Bitcoin is not the hard part. Running a company on it is.

TALLINN, Estonia, Oct. 6, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Bringin today opened an invite-only beta of euro business accounts that let companies hold, accept and pay in Bitcoin and stablecoins, keep owner control of their coins, and run SEPA payments from a vIBAN in the company's own name. The launch builds on Bringin's consumer platform, which has processed more than €15 million.

More European businesses want what Bitcoin and stablecoins offer: instant settlement, global reach and lower costs. But running a company on Bitcoin is another matter: Many face bank account restrictions and blocked transfers. Every conversion to euros adds friction, records sit across disconnected tools, and Travel Rule requirements turn simple payments into paperwork. Bitcoin's potential as money stays largely untapped.

Bringin for Business bridges Bitcoin and banking. Companies can add Bitcoin to their treasury, accept Bitcoin, Lightning or stablecoin payments, and pay suppliers and payroll in Bitcoin. Euro accounts and the company's Bitcoinwallet sit together, with the governance and security a business needs. A dedicated virtual IBAN, in the company's own name, connects it to SEPA payments, with additional global payment rails planned.

Private keys for each company's Bitcoin are generated inside a hardware-isolated secure enclave. Bringin never has access to the raw key. A key can be used to sign a payment only inside the enclave, and only after a designated company owner authenticates.

Banking, payments, self-custody and exchange all run in one place, with integrations for accounting and tax reporting tools, and APIs to automate routine work with AI agents.

"Companies that use Bitcoin still struggle to get a euro account and move seamlessly between them," said Prashanth Chandrashekar, founder and CEO of Bringin. "We built Bringin to solve that, now companies can get paid, hold value and move money globally, with accounts designed around self-custody and a smooth payment experience."

Built on the MiCA-authorized infrastructure of Lightspark Payments Europe AS, Bringin for Business is already used by 15 businesses in the beta, including Lightning payment tools, mining-rig sellers and Bitcoin conferences, handling cross-border payments and instant Bitcoin-to-euro conversions. It is available to companies across 30 European countries.

Businesses ready to earn, hold and pay in Bitcoin can request an invite at bringin.app/business.

About Bringin:

Bringin is a Tallinn-based fintech bridging Bitcoin and euro banking. Its consumer app combines a self-custodial Bitcoinwallet, euro vIBAN and debit cards. Bringin for Business extends the same infrastructure to companies using Bitcoin for treasury and payments. Learn more at bringin.app.

Gnani AI Brings Ascent, Its Flagship Contact Center & CX AI Partner Program to the Middle East

Ascent connects Gnani AI's production-proven Multi-modal Conversation AI - led by Voice AI - along with Agent Assist and AQM/Speech Analytics, to regional technology, infrastructure and implementation partners, helping GCC enterprises move Contact Center and CX transformation from pilot to production.

DUBAI, UAE and BENGALURU, India, Oct. 6, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Gnani AI, the frontier AI company, today announced the regional expansion of Gnani Ascent, its flagship partner program, into the Middle East - bringing its production-proven Contact Center and CX AI suite to enterprises across the GCC through a growing network of regional partners. For regulated and government clients, the same suite is available as resident deployment on their own infrastructure, with fine-tuning available for regional languages including Arabic.

The regional launch builds on Gnani AI's sovereign AI stack, unveiled in New Delhi, India on 28 August 2026 by Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, Vice-President of India, and extends it into an ecosystem purpose-built for production – with data residency, language fine-tuning and auditability built in from the ground up for regulated and government workloads in Middle East as well.

Contact centers across the region face growing pressure to modernize customer experience while meeting compliance requirements that are rarely optional in banking, insurance, healthcare and government sectors. The harder problem isn't accessing AI - it's deploying it directly into the CCaaS/CPaaS platforms enterprises already run, fine-tuned to the languages their customers speak. Ascent closes that gap, pairing Gnani AI's technology with regional GTM and implementation partners.

In the Middle East, Ascent hasalready onboarded Rise (a National Holding Group Company), iSteer and Gibraltar Technologies – bringing local implementation expertise and enterprise relationships to deploy Gnani AI's Conversation AI suite with Resident AI and Arabic fine-tuning. Globally, the Ascent program has brought on more than 25 partners within weeks of launch — including Hexaware, Intel, Cisco, Fortanix, Vymo, Melento and FCI.

Gnani AI has already onboarded multiple banking and insurance customers in the last few months on Conversation AI led digital transformation in UAE.

At its core is Gnani AI's architecture spanning Evon, Timbre, Prisma, and Warp – its family of language and speech models, fine-tunable for regional languages including Arabic - and Plexus, its agentic and conversation AI platform.

Gnani AI's technology is already proven at scale: more than 200 enterprises globally, over 50 million calls handled every day across 22+ languages, in production across regulated industries including banking, insurance and government – the same foundation now extending into the Middle East through Ascent.

"India has the opportunity not only to adopt AI, but to build and deploy intelligence designed for the complexity, scale and requirements of enterprises in the Middle East. No single technology layer can deliver that transformation alone. Ascent brings the ecosystem together around enterprise outcomes – from models and infrastructure to integration and implementation," said Ganesh Gopalan, Co-Founder and CEO, Gnani AI.

"Enterprises across our portfolio are asking for AI that can actually run their operations, not just answer questions. Gnani AI's agentic and conversation AI capabilities, combined with Rise's go-to-market and implementation reach, let us bring that to market faster and with far greater confidence," said Omar Alomari, Head of Business Development & Innovation, Rise (A National Holding Company).

"Fortanix is proud to partner with Gnani AI to redefine the architecture of trust for the enterprise," said Anuj Jaiswal, Chief Product Officer, Fortanix. "Together, we are removing the tradeoff between innovation and privacy, so enterprises can be confident that their data and intellectual property remain protected and under their control."

"We've spent over a decade building the connectors that let disparate enterprise systems work together. Conversation AI is no different – it needs to plug into the same ERPs, CRMs and operational systems our customers already run. Partnering with Gnani lets us bring that same integration discipline to their state-of-the-art agentic Conversation AI, so customers get a working deployment in weeks, not months," said Umashankar Raju, Founder & CEO, iSteer.

For partners, Ascent is a way to bring production-grade AI - from Conversation AI to Sovereign & Resident AI - to their clients, and engage across joint solutioning, implementation, platform integration, embedded AI or go-to-market – turning each opportunity into a shared, measurable economic value.

Dr. Oregonin Completes U.S. FDA Registration for OLTIS DENTAL-X, Unveiling Oral-Care Innovation Rooted in Trans-Pacific Alder Research

Botanical oral-care product bridges 1974 Oregon State University discovery of 'oregonin' with 27 years of natural-product research by South Korean scientists.

SEOUL, South Korea, Oct. 6, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Oregonin Inc. today announced that it has completed U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) registration for OLTIS DENTAL-X, paving the way for its official commercial entry into the North American oral-care market.

The product's authorization follows 27 years of research led by Professor Sun Eun Choi at Kangwon National University in South Korea, a specialist in pharmacognosy and natural products and recipient of Korea's Dongtap Order of Industrial Service Merit. Professor Choi's research team validated the biological efficacy and chemical profile of oregonin extracted from native Korean alder (Alnus japonica), securing Korean National New Excellent Technology (NET) Certification and regulatory clearance from South Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS).

The scientific history of the active compound traces directly back to the Pacific Northwest. In 1974, researchers at Oregon State University studying Red Alder (Alnus rubra) isolated a previously unknown polyphenolic diarylheptanoid xyloside and named it "oregonin" in honor of the state. Red Alder bark, roots, and leaves have a long history of traditional hygiene and medicinal use among indigenous and local communities in the Pacific Northwest, with modern phytochemical research confirming diarylheptanoids like oregonin as primary bioactive constituents.

Professor Choi's comparative research demonstrated that oregonin derived from Korean alder is chemically identical to the compound originally characterized in American Red Alder and exhibits identical biological activities. This botanical connection bridges American natural science history with advanced Korean forest-bio manufacturing.

"Oregonin creates a fascinating scientific bridge between Korea and the United States," said Professor Choi. "The compound was first characterized from America's Red Alder by researchers at Oregon State University. Decades later, our team translated this characteristic Alnus compound into an FDA-registered oral-care innovation. In that sense, this product has had an authentic connection to America from its inception."

Following its FDA registration, Dr. Oregonin Inc. is currently actively pursuing retail and distribution partnerships across major U.S. commercial channels to introduce OLTIS DENTAL-X to North American consumers.
