Toyota Driver Thomas Annunziata Wins First ARCA Championship
Original HTML

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Sept. 28, 2026) – Camry driver Thomas Annunziata captured his first career ARCA Menards Series title last Friday with a fifth-place finish at Kansas Speedway. This championship is the first in ARCA competition for Nitro Motorsports.

The 21-year-old New Jersey native made his full-time debut in ARCA competition in 2026, with a terrific season-long performance behind the wheel of his No. 70 Toyota Camry. Annunziata captured one victory at Lime Rock Park in June, along with earning 11 top-five and 18 top-10 finishes across this season’s 20 races, with an average finishing position of seventh enroute to the driver’s title. Annunziata’s championship is also the second in four years for Toyota, and third in the last six, joining Jesse Love (2023) and Ty Gibbs (2021) with recent championships.

“We’re thrilled to have been a part of Thomas Annunziata and Nitro Motorsports’ first championship in the ARCA Menards Series,” said Paul Doleshal, general manager, sponsorships and motorsports, Toyota Motor North America (TMNA). “This year’s ARCA Menards Series championship was very competitive amongst the Nitro Motorsports teammates, and for Thomas to come out on top shows not only his distinct talents, but also his determination to reach his goals. We look forward to celebrating this terrific moment with Thomas in his young and prospering career.”

Annunziata also made his debut in the NASCAR Truck Series at Lime Rock Park in the No. 1 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro for TRICON Garage, where he started from the fourth position.

Annunziata’s championship was the finishing touch on another historic season for Toyota in the ARCA Menards Series, as Toyota teams won 11 of the 20 races. This included a stretch of four-in-a-row from Michigan International Speedway to Elko Speedway in the mid-summer where Annunziata’s Lime Rock Park win was the third of four in that stretch. Annunziata is the ninth Toyota-partner driver to capture an ARCA Menards Series championship, joining the likes of Patrick Sheltra (2010), Justin Lofton (2009), Frank Kimmel (2013), Austin Theriault (2017), Sheldon Creed (2018), Christian Eckes (2019), Gibbs (2021) and Love (2023).

DURHAM, N.C. (Sept. 30, 2026) – IONNA, the charging network founded by eight of the world’s leading automakers, including Toyota, today announced it has surpassed 180 live charging sites nationwide, more than doubling the network since the beginning of 2026. This growth is anchored by industry-leading customer satisfaction, with a focus on coverage, reliability and amenities.

IONNA recently earned the top ranking among DC Fast Chargers in the JD Power 2026 U.S. Electric Vehicle Experience (EVX) Public Charging StudySM in the first year of eligibility.

Scaling the National Footprint

Since announcing its strategic partnership with Circle K earlier this year, IONNA has brought 40 Circle K charging locations online, rapidly expanding charging options across one of America’s largest convenience retail networks.

“The industry has treated charging scale and charging quality as a tradeoff. Our growth and first-place customer satisfaction ranking show that drivers can and should expect both,” said Seth Cutler, CEO of IONNA. “The IONNA team is focused on delivering quality at scale to enable the sale and adoption of EVs in North America”

With new Toyota and Lexus app integrations as well as Presto, ChargeHub, and EV Connect, the list of supported partner apps has grown to 19. With newly enabled Plug & Charge capabilities for certain Toyota and Lexus models coming soon, IONNA continues to prove itself as the ultimate network partner, dedicated toa seamless experience.

“Congratulations to IONNA on their latest achievements,” said Thibaut de Barros Conti, vice president, Business Development, Toyota Motor North America. “IONNA’s agility and customer-centricity align with Toyota’s goals of creating truly world-class experiences and enabling mobility for all.”

Toyota Battery Center of North America Unveiled at Michigan R&D Campus

New Development Center Boosts Testing and Evaluation Capabilities on Road to Electrification

SALINE, Mich. (Oct. 1, 2026) — The next chapter of Toyota’s electrification transformation begins today with the opening of the Toyota Battery Center of North America (TBC) in Saline, Michigan. The new facility gives Toyota’s Michigan-based battery teams increased capabilities to evaluate and develop technology across the full battery-development cycle, from sourcing raw materials to customer applications to recycling.

“Toyota has long been at the forefront of battery development,” said Keita Moritsu, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Toyota Motor North America R&D. “This center is where that leadership expands to North America — and where we’re building its next chapter.”

The 30,000-square-foot facility serves as a central hub for development and evaluation, in partnership with Toyota’s North American manufacturing network, supporting the evaluation of batteries for Toyota Battery Manufacturing, North Carolina, as well as Toyota’s vehicle manufacturing plants across North America.

TBC also represents the latest milestone in Toyota’s more than 50-year history with the state of Michigan.

“Today is a big win for Michigan’s leadership in advanced automotive manufacturing,” said Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. “We are proud to welcome this investment by Toyota that positions Michigan as the best place to build the future. This state-of-the-art facility will develop, test, and improve the batteries powering the next generation of vehicles. It joins factories and projects opening across our state that are creating good-paying, high-skilled jobs in every community. Let’s keep working together to build the future of cars, chips, batteries, and so much more right here in Michigan.”

TBC’s evaluation and development capabilities support Toyota’s multi-pathway strategy by enabling a range of sustainable mobility solutions for customers. On site, teams of engineers and technicians assess battery performance and develop new technologies for use in hybrid, plug-in hybrid, hydrogen, and fully electric vehicles.

“For Toyota customers, this facility means Toyota engineers can detect and resolve field concerns faster and closer to the source,” said Jordan Choby, Group Vice President of Powertrain. “It also means we can develop longer-lasting batteries designed to perform in the conditions American drivers face every day.”

Toyota will open the facility and research access with the University of Michigan Electric Vehicle Center, allowing other research partners to benefit from its cutting-edge testing and evaluation capabilities. As a founding member of the Electric Vehicle Center, this program is part of Toyota’s commitment to developing the next generation of battery engineers and technicians in Michigan.

What’s New

For model year 2027, the Corolla Cross hybrid lineup simplifies from three to two grades, dropping the S grade and going to a choice of well-equipped SE or XSE grades. Across the rest of the lineup, the model’s features and specifications carryover from the prior model year.

The 2027 Corolla Cross models are expected to arrive at Toyota dealerships across the United States this fall. Gas models have a starting Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $25,535 (L FWD grade) and hybrid models have a starting MSRP of $31,415 (SE grade) excluding Dealer Processing and Handling fee, click here for the latest Toyota Pricing information.

Designed to Make the Most of Everyday

The Toyota Corolla Cross presents a refined yet capable SUV appearance, balancing clean lines with a confident stance. Built on the TNGA-C platform, its exterior design brings together the familiarity of the Corolla family with the elevated ride height and utility of an SUV.

The Corolla Cross offers distinct grille designs that help differentiate gas and Hybrid models, with a modern, color-matched grille for the Hybrid model and a wide, rugged look for the gas-powered models. Depending on grade and powertrain, available features such as LED lighting, available two-tone exterior paint, and different wheel treatments give Corolla Cross an approachable and modern look that makes it an attractive entry in Toyota’s SUV lineup.

Inside, the Corolla Cross emphasizes comfort, usability, and smart packaging. The cabin is designed to support daily commuting, weekend errands, and road-trip flexibility with a layout that prioritizes both driver confidence and passenger convenience. Interior features include:

- An intuitive cockpit design focused on ease of use with console, center, and door storage

- Folding 60/40 rear seating designed to support practicality and passenger comfort

- Flexible rear cargo space for groceries, gear, and travel needs

- Available technology like a 10.5-inch touchscreen, wireless Qi charging, and 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster

The cabin strikes a balance between simplicity, durability, and functionality for a modern appeal.

Gas and Hybrid Powertrain Choices

Toyota offers the Corolla Cross with two distinct powertrain paths, giving customers flexibility based on their driving preferences.

The gas-powered Corolla Cross is equipped with a responsive 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine designed to deliver balanced performance and everyday efficiency. It produces a punchy 169 horsepower and has a physical first gear for a straightforward, familiar driving experience with the confidence expected from a compact SUV.

The Corolla Cross’ AWD gas model has a manufacturer estimated 29/31/30 city/highway/combined MPG combined rating; FWD equipped gas models have a manufacturer estimated 30/32/31 city/highway/combined MPG combined rating.

For customers interested in added efficiency, the Corolla Cross Hybrid pairs Toyota’s hybrid technology with standard all-wheel-drive, delivering a well-rounded combination of fuel economy and confident traction. The Corolla Cross Hybrid has an impressive manufacturer estimated 46/39/42 city/highway/combined MPG rating on both Hybrid grades.

Front-Wheel Drive and All-Wheel Drive Availability

The Corolla Cross gas grades are available with FWD or AWD, providing an efficient and accessible configuration for many drivers. For those who choose a gas-powered AWD model, Toyota’s clever Dynamic Torque Control system directs up to 50% of power to the rear wheels when it’s needed – and disengages completely when it’s not. This feature helps Corolla Cross’ fuel economy.

For Corolla Cross Hybrid models, the e-AWD system has the capability to deliver added traction for slippery road conditions. It employs a high-output IPM (Interior Permanent Magnet) motor that drives the rear wheels and works seamlessly to preemptively distribute driving force to the rear wheels to help suppress front wheel slip during off-the-line starts. It also engages the rear motor in response to slippage at the front wheels and enhances cornering agility by helping to reduce understeer.

Towing capacity is 1,500 pounds on both front- or all-wheel drive models.
