KOLD News 13 – Oro Valley PD Launches New Alert System
Image File
Original HTML

Oro Valley Police Department has launched Community Connect, a Versaterm-powered system that sends residents case status text alerts as their call or case moves forward. Once a resident contacts OVPD, the department logs their phone number and the system begins sending automated texts as the case develops, including a link residents can use to view official case information online at any time. If a responding officer is running behind schedule, the same system sends a notice letting the resident know about the delay, rather than leaving them to wonder whether help is still on the way. The rollout gives Oro Valley residents a self-service way to track routine calls, from minor property crimes to non-emergency requests, without needing to call the department directly for an update, following similar moves by other Pima County agencies. OVPD has said it plans to expand the range of case types covered by the case status text alerts as it evaluates resident response to the initial rollout.

Douglas Dispatch – Douglas Police Launch Enhanced Victim Notification System
Image File
Original HTML

Douglas Police Department has launched an enhanced victim notification system to keep crime victims updated automatically as their cases move through investigation. The department built the system on Versaterm CommunityConnect, sending victims case information and status changes without requiring staff to manually track down and contact each victim individually. Department leadership describes the upgrade as enhanced specifically because it replaces a more manual, ad hoc process that previously depended on individual officers or victim advocates remembering to follow up, a process prone to delays and inconsistency as caseloads grew. Because the notifications generate automatically from existing case records, the department did not need to add staff or restructure its records workflow to support the new system, an efficiency point the department highlighted in announcing the launch. For a border community like Douglas, the system gives victims a consistent point of contact even when a case moves between agencies or across the jurisdictional lines that often come into play in a community adjacent to the U.S.-Mexico border.

WINK News – New Tool Keeps Charlotte County Crime Victims Updated
Image File
Original HTML

WINK News examines how Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office is using Versaterm CommunityConnect to deliver real-time crime victim updates that follow a case from the initial 911 call all the way through an offender’s eventual release. The report walks through how the tool works alongside VINE, the existing statewide victim notification network, explaining that CommunityConnect covers the earlier stages of a case, such as the initial response and investigation, that VINE was not originally designed to track. Victims interviewed for the segment describe the value of knowing where a case stands without needing to repeatedly call detectives or victim advocates for updates, particularly during the weeks immediately following an incident when uncertainty tends to be highest. The station frames the launch within a broader statewide trend of Florida sheriff’s offices pairing multiple notification platforms together to close gaps in victim communication, rather than relying on any single system to cover a case from the first call to the final outcome. Sheriff’s office representatives say they expect to expand the tool’s use as more victims move through the full process.

AI Helped Steal Thousands of Credentials in Under Six Hours. Former Google Security Leader Bryan Vuong Is Fighting Back
Image File
Original HTML

As FBI figures show nearly $21 billion in U.S. internet-crime losses, Silicon Valley cybersecurity startup Cyfendo is using AI to help smaller businesses find software vulnerabilities, investigate real threats and prepare tested fixes for developer approval.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The attacker did not need a team, just an AI coding agent, instructions and a set of tools. In less than six hours, a suspected cybercriminal used an AI-enabled framework to plan, build and run a mass credential-harvesting campaign from compromised cloud infrastructure. Thousands of third-party login credentials were compromised, according to Google Threat Intelligence Group in its September 8, 2026 report.

The campaign shows how much an attacker can organize in a few hours. At a small business, the next security warning may land on one developer's desk, alongside customer support requests and software updates. Bryan Vuong wants to make that investigation less difficult.

Bryan Vuong, the founder and CEO of Silicon Valley cybersecurity company Cyfendo, previously led engineering work at Google and Facebook. His company uses AI-assisted source-code analysis to help developers examine possible vulnerabilities, investigate exploitability where supported, and assess proposed repairs before any change is approved. The goal is to give smaller teams more of the investigative capability usually found inside a large technology company.

"What worries me is the gap between increasingly powerful attack capabilities and the resources ordinary businesses have to defend themselves," Bryan Vuong said. "I founded Cyfendo to help them protect what they've worked so hard to build."

The Cost of Cybercrime, and the Businesses at Risk

The FBI's 2025 Internet Crime Report recorded 1,008,597 complaints and about $20.88 billion in reported losses across internet crimes, including fraud. Meanwhile, the U.S. Small Business Administration counted approximately 36.2 million small businesses in 2025, more than 4.3 million of them in California.

Small businesses use software to take orders, process payments, book appointments and store customer records. When a scan flags a problem, the person maintaining the application must determine whether an attacker could exploit it, what information is at risk and how to make a repair without breaking a feature customers rely on. That work competes with support requests and the next release.

AI Can Build an Application. Who Checks Its Security?

AI coding tools can help a restaurant launch online ordering, a contractor set up a customer portal or a founder build an application without hiring a conventional development team. Consider a small distributor whose customers download invoices from a portal. One customer changes a single number in the invoice URL and opens another customer's billing record. The site looks normal; the login works; an ordinary test may show nothing wrong. The error is in the access rule that should have kept the invoices separate.

Other flaws can be just as hard to spot. A database query may return the right information to a legitimate user while mishandling malicious input. A newly connected service may have broader access than it needs. None of these mistakes has to interrupt a normal transaction to put the business at risk.

A finished application may also have passed through several tools. A developer could start in Lovable, make changes with Cursor, connect Supabase for authentication and storage, track versions in GitHub and deploy the project elsewhere. Each service has its own security controls, but no single check should be assumed to cover the entire codebase after those changes. Someone still has to examine the software that customers actually use.

Cyfendo adds a code-level review alongside those platform protections. Developers can connect GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket repositories, upload project files or work from the command line. They can check the application as it exists now, including features and integrations added after launch.

Finding a Vulnerability Is Only the First Step

A scanner may flag a suspicious line without telling the developer how an attacker could use it. Someone still has to reproduce the problem, judge its severity, correct the code and check that the application continues to work.

Cyfendo links those steps where its tools support them. The platform traces untrusted data through source code to sensitive operations, runs isolated checks to investigate exploitability, and prepares a code patch for review. It then re-tests the finding and relevant application behavior. Developers see the evidence and decide whether to accept the proposed change; Cyfendo does not merge patches directly into production software.

"Every business, big or small, deserves world-class security," Bryan Vuong said. "Protecting what you've built should not depend on whether you can afford a team of experts."

This is useful when the person responsible for an AI-built application is also the person answering support requests and shipping new features. That developer may know the business extremely well without having the time or training to investigate every security finding from scratch.

According to Cyfendo's own scan data, the company finds an average of four critical-severity issues per codebase. Approximately seven in ten findings are rated high or critical. Those results come from projects scanned by Cyfendo, not a representative survey of business applications. They help explain the company's emphasis on investigating findings and preparing fixes rather than handing developers another list of alerts.

Cyfendo has separately published results on standardized OWASP detection benchmarks. In its September 2026 evaluations, it reported 94.06% recall and 96.38% precision on the Java Benchmark v1.2 (2,740 test cases), and 90.04% recall and 93.78% precision on the Python Benchmark v0.1 (1,230 cases). Recall measures how many known vulnerable cases were detected; precision measures how many flagged cases were truly vulnerable. These are company-reported detection results, not an OWASP endorsement or an independent validation of automated repairs. Cyfendo has published its benchmark methodology for review.

Cyfendo's code-security platform is available now. Its free plan covers up to 10,000 protected lines of code and five scans a month, with detailed findings and limited patch evaluation. Paid self-service subscriptions begin at $99 per month and include automated generation of review-ready patches and higher scanning allowances. The company's separate application penetration-testing service remains in private beta for select businesses and is not part of those subscriptions.

Bryan Vuong's Career, From AI Research to Application Security

Vuong's background includes engineering leadership, machine learning and academic research. From 2020 to 2026, he served as Senior Engineering Manager, AI and Security, at Google, working in areas involving privacy, safety and security. Earlier, at Facebook, now part of Meta, he worked as a machine-learning research scientist and engineering manager.

He earned a Ph.D. in Computer Sciences from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he studied databases, information extraction and data integration, following a Bachelor of Engineering with First Class Honours from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Publishing as Ba-Quy Vuong, he contributed research on unstructured information and user feedback in information-extraction systems. He is also named as co-inventor on three granted U.S. patents in search and information processing, assigned to Walmart-related entities.

In 2024, Vuong co-founded InnoSearch AI, an online shopping service for blind and low-vision users. The service helped people navigate online shopping experiences that had not always been designed for them. With Cyfendo, he is addressing another gap in access: smaller organizations can build substantial software, but often cannot employ the specialists needed to assess its security.

Automated analysis cannot replace sound access controls, timely updates or a developer's judgment. It can give a small team evidence and a proposed fix to review when a security problem would otherwise demand specialist investigation.

Google's investigation showed what an attacker could organize in a few hours. Cyfendo is focusing on the work a developer faces after finding a potential weakness: determining whether it can be exploited, reviewing a repair and checking the change. More small businesses can now build their own applications with AI. They also need an effective way to check the security of what they put online.

About Cyfendo

Cyfendo Inc. is a Silicon Valley-based application-security company founded by Bryan Vuong. Its AI-powered platform combines source-code analysis, vulnerability investigation, exploitability checks where supported, proposed patches and re-testing. Developers can connect repositories or upload projects, inspect findings and approve or reject proposed code changes. The company offers free and paid code-security subscriptions; separately scoped application penetration testing is in private beta for select businesses.

WSMV4 – How Sumner County Is Using Data to Make Schools Safer
Image File
Original HTML

Sumner County Sheriff’s Office won first place in the 2026 Versaterm Innovation Awards for its school resource officer data program, which uses technology and data collected during daily SRO interactions to identify safety trends across county schools. WSMV4’s report looks at how the division tracks incidents, follow-ups and pattern data over time, giving administrators and deputies a clearer picture of where and when issues tend to arise rather than relying solely on individual officer memory or informal notes. The recognition places Sumner County among a small group of agencies nationally cited by Versaterm for turning routine SRO documentation into a structured program other departments can study and potentially replicate. For a mid-sized county sheriff’s office, winning a national innovation award for a school resource officer data program signals recognition well beyond the county’s own school district boundaries, and sheriff’s office leadership say they plan to expand the approach to additional schools in the coming year.

Vertical Magazine – Drone as First Responder: The Uncrewed Advantage
Image File
Original HTML

Vertical Magazine explores why Drone as First Responder programs have surged over the past year, driven largely by regulatory changes that made routine beyond-visual-line-of-sight drone flights realistic for police departments rather than a special-case exception requiring lengthy federal waivers. The feature surveys multiple agencies running Drone as First Responder programs and lays out the range of benefits departments report, including faster scene assessment, reduced officer risk on unclear calls and the ability to clear low-priority calls remotely once a drone confirms nothing further is needed. Glendale Police is featured prominently, using Versaterm DroneSense flight management software to log, coordinate and manage its drone fleet, paired with the SafeSky traffic awareness app to maintain safe altitude separation between Glendale’s drones and manned aircraft operating in the same airspace, addressing a persistent concern raised by aviation regulators as these programs scale up nationwide. The feature positions software-level airspace awareness, rather than hardware alone, as a key factor in scaling Drone as First Responder programs responsibly across departments of any size.

MESA, Ariz. – October 7, 2026 – Versaterm, a leading provider of public safety technology solutions, announces the integration of Versaterm Aloft’s airspace authorization capabilities into Versaterm DroneSense, its comprehensive drone operations solution. This integration enables public safety agencies to request and receive FAA Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) airspace authorizations directly within Versaterm DroneSense, without manual FAA coordination or separate applications.

The result is a single connected call response workflow that unifies CAD dispatch, drone operations and FAA airspace compliance. This streamlined approach reduces coordination time and removes operational barriers, allowing agencies to respond more quickly to emergency situations in controlled airspace near airports. Agencies can now manage time-critical missions including search and rescue and tactical response with near-real-time authorization processing and automatic compliance reporting.

“Readiness shouldn’t depend on how many systems a pilot can juggle under pressure,” said Steve Seoane, CEO at Versaterm. “Agencies should never have to choose between flying fast and flying legally, but the workflow has made it feel that way. This integration puts authorization where the pilot already is, so getting cleared is part of launching, not a step before it.”

The integration builds on Versaterm’s strategic acquisitions of DroneSense in July 2025 and Aloft in February 2026. Versaterm DroneSense is now an FAA-approved LAANC Secondary Data Service Provider through its connection with Versaterm Aloft, the leading FAA-approved UAS Service Supplier (USS), processing the majority of LAANC authorizations. Versaterm DroneSense customers will gain access to these new LAANC capabilities as part of their existing subscriptions at no additional cost.

“LAANC continues to enable safe and efficient integration of unmanned aircraft into the national airspace system,” said an FAA spokesperson. “Partnerships like this one demonstrate how technology can support public safety operations while maintaining the safety and security of the airspace.”

OTCQX: ORVMF

TORONTO, Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Orvana Minerals Corp. (TSX: ORV) (OTCQX: ORVMF) ("Orvana" or the "Company") is pleased to report production results for the fourth quarter and full fiscal year 2026, ended September 30, 2026 ("Q4 FY2026" and "FY2026", respectively), and to provide an update on the Oxides Stockpile Project at its Don Mario operation in Bolivia.

Juan Gavidia, CEO of Orvana, commented, "Spain exceeded our FY2026l gold production guidance, supported by the strategic use of additional contractor services o, which helped offset labour shortages and absenteeism. Looking ahead to FY2027, our focus remains on sustaining disciplined production performance and operational efficiency while managing inflationary cost pressures arising from broader global conditions and continued workforce challenges."

"At Don Mario's newly expanded Plant, we produced our first gold doré bars, and copper cathodes, during the quarter. Current work is about optimizing the acid leaching and filtration sectors, to further improve process efficiency and operational reliability. We expect to progressively increase daily throughput during the remainder of calendar 2026 moving towards the end goal of 1,700 tonnes per day, by the end of calendar 2026," he added.

Highlights

- Consolidated production of 12,947 Gold Equivalent Ounces ("GEO")(1) during Q4 FY2026, comprised of 10,895 gold ounces, 1.0 million pounds of copper and 35,502 silver ounces.

- Consolidated production of 45,160 GEO(1) during FY2026, comprised of 39,282 gold ounces, 3.1 million pounds of copper and 112,499 silver ounces.

- Orovalle produced 37,775 ounces of gold and 2.9 million pounds of copper in FY2026, exceeding gold production guidance and delivering copper production within guidance.

- EMIPA produced its first doré and copper cathodes from the expanded Don Mario Plant during Q4 FY2026. EMIPA FY2026 production was below the Company's FY2026 guidance for EMIPA, which was withdrawn on September 17, 2026 (see "EMIPA – FY2026 Guidance" below).

Certain statements in this news release, including statements regarding throughput increases, the objective of reaching design capacity by the end of Calander 2026, and ongoing optimization at the Don Mario Plant, constitute forward-looking information. See "Cautionary Statements – Forward-Looking Information" below.

(1) Gold Equivalent Ounces ("GEO") is a Non-GAAP Financial Performance Measure. Non-GAAP measures do not have standardized meanings under IFRS and may not be comparable to similar measures of other issuers. GEO is calculated by converting copper and silver to gold equivalent using the metal prices disclosed below and adding the result to gold ounces produced. The Company believes GEO provides a useful measure to help evaluate production across multiple metals. Refer to the Company's most recent Management's Discussion and Analysis for additional information. GEO were calculated using the following average market prices:

Q4 FY2026:  $4,269.51/oz Au, $62.73/oz Ag, $6.40/lb Cu

Q3 FY2026:  $4,516.57/oz Au, $73.44/oz Ag, $6.04/lb Cu

Q4 FY2025:  $3,455.50/oz Au, $39.38/oz Ag, $4.44/lb Cu

FY2026:        $4,450.84/oz Au, $68.82/oz Ag, $5.83/lb Cu

OROVALLE

- 10,347 gold ounces produced in Q4 FY2026, 7% higher than the previous quarter, primarily driven by a 10% increase in gold grade and a 0.8% improvement in recovery, partially offset by a 3% decrease in tonnes milled.

- 0.8 million pounds of copper produced in Q4 FY2026, 17% higher than the previous quarter, primarily due to a 13% increase in copper grade and a 7% improvement in recovery, partially offset by a 3% decrease in tonnes milled.

- Quarter–over–quarter grade changes reflect changes in oxide and skarn proportions associated with ore extraction and blending sequencing.

- For FY2026, Orovalle processed a total of 518,525 tonnes of ore and produced 43,074 GEO(1), comprising 37,775 ounces of gold, 2,877 thousand pounds of copper and 100,255 ounces of silver.

- Gold production of 37,775 ounces in FY2026 was approximately 2% above the upper end of the FY2026 production guidance range of 34,000 to 37,000 ounces.

- Copper production of 2.9 million pounds in FY2026 was within the FY2026 production guidance range of 2.7 to 3.0 million pounds.

EMIPA

- During Q4 FY2026, EMIPA commenced processing oxides ore through the expanded Don Mario Processing Plant achieving first production of gold doré bars and copper cathodes; marking key milestones in the ramp-up of the operation. Metallurgical recoveries during this initial ramp-up period, which included operational testing of the circuits, were below planned levels, and improving recoveries is a key focus of ongoing optimization work.

- EMIPA has now substantially completed operational validation of copper, gold and silver circuits, as well as the comminution circuit. Production to date has demonstrated that each circuit can produce finished metal from the oxide stockpile ore. The ramp-up has identified the acid leaching and filtration sectors as the principal areas for optimization, where operational efforts are now focused, including the evaluation of different filter cloth configurations to improve filtration performance. Oxides ore throughput increased each month of the quarter, from 1,694 tonnes in July, to 3,914 tonnes in August, and 11,160 tonnes in September.

- EMIPA expects to increase current throughput through the remainder of calendar 2026 to reach the plant's design capacity of approximately 1,700 tonnes per day. In parallel, EMIPA is also working to reduce unit costs as throughput increases as plant throughput progressively increases.

- During Q4 FY2026, EMIPA processed 16,769 tonnes of oxides ore, and produced 1,109 GEO(1), comprised of 548 ounces of gold, 265 thousand pounds of copper, and 11,165 ounces of silver.

- For FY2026, EMIPA processed a total of 64,156 tonnes of ore and produced 2,086 GEO(1), comprised of 1,507 ounces of gold, 265 thousand pounds of copper and 12,244 ounces of silver. Production during the year included sulphide ore processed through the gold and silver circuits, without copper recovery, in Q2 and, beginning in Q4, oxide ore processed through the expanded Don Mario Processing Plant during its ramp-up phase.

- EMIPA – FY2026 Guidance

EMIPA's FY2026 production of 1,507 ounces of gold and 0.27 million pounds of copper was below the Company's FY2026 guidance for EMIPA. On February 11, 2026, the Company provided guidance of 13,000 to 14,000 ounces of gold and 6.7 to 7.5 million pounds of copper, based on the planned processing of approximately 256,000 tonnes of oxide stockpile ore during the second half of FY2026, in addition to legacy sulphide ore. On August 13, 2026, the Company revised this guidance to 4,200 to 4,700 ounces of gold and 1.9 to 2.1 million pounds of copper, and on September 17, 2026, the Company withdrew it.

The shortfall was primarily the result of processing significantly fewer tonnes of oxide ore than planned, reflecting (i) a delay in the start of oxide ore processing, principally due to civil unrest and logistics disruptions in Bolivia during May and June 2026; and (ii) lower-than-anticipated throughput during the ramp-up period. Metallurgical recoveries below planned levels during the ramp-up period also contributed to the shortfall. The Company is not currently providing production or cost guidance for EMIPA Additional information will be included in the Company's Management's Discussion and Analysis for FY2026.
