Kinder in Nepal nach Sturzflut ohne sauberes Wasser: Krankheitsrisiko steigt

Kathmandu/Berlin (ots)

Save the Children ist seit 1976 in Nepal tätig. Die Organisation führt Programme in den Bereichen Gesundheit und Ernährung, Bildung, Kinderschutz, Kinderrechtspolitik, Gleichstellung der Geschlechter, Anpassungen an die Klimakrise sowie Kinderarmut durch.

HUMAIN is now delivering production AI compute in Saudi Arabia powered by AMD Instinct™ MI355X GPUs, AMD EPYC™ CPUs and Cisco Silicon One-based AI networking to deliver the performance, scale and resilience necessary for next-generation workloads.

AMD, Cisco and HUMAIN plan to deploy up to 250 MW of AI infrastructure as part of the next phase of the buildout beginning in 2027.

Driven by strong customer demand, the AMD, Cisco and HUMAIN joint venture remains on track to deploy up to 1 GW of AI infrastructure by 2030.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Aug. 31, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- AMD, Cisco and HUMAIN, a PIF company delivering full-stack AI solutions, today announced that AMD Instinct MI355X GPU-based AI infrastructure built on Cisco Silicon One-based AI networking is now live in Saudi Arabia and serving HUMAIN customers in the Kingdom and beyond.

The production deployment, powered by AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs, AMD EPYC CPUs and Cisco's critical networking infrastructure, marks an important milestone in AMD, Cisco and HUMAIN's work to build an open, large-scale, AI platform in Saudi Arabia. Built on Cisco Silicon One and Cisco 800G optics, the Cisco N9000 Series platform interconnects the MI355X GPUs in an AI-optimized fabric designed for scale, low latency and operational resilience, enabling HUMAIN to offer GPU-as-a-service across a wide range of use cases, from model training to inferencing.

Expanding on this foundation, AMD, Cisco and HUMAIN plan to deploy up to 250 MW of AI infrastructure powered by AMD Instinct MI400 Series GPUs, AMD EPYC CPUs and AMD ROCm™ open software, together with Cisco networking and critical infrastructure, through the companies' previously announced joint venture. Deployment is planned to begin in 2027, with capacity expected to start coming online in the second half of the year.

This next phase of the companies' previously announced joint venture will significantly expand Saudi Arabia's AI capacity. Driven by strong customer demand, the joint venture remains on track to deploy up to 1 GW of AI infrastructure by 2030.

"Bringing AMD Instinct systems online in Saudi Arabia is an important milestone in our work with HUMAIN," said Dr. Lisa Su, chair and CEO, AMD. "Together, we are building an open, high-performance AI platform that is serving customers today and will scale significantly in the coming years. With AMD Instinct GPUs, EPYC CPUs and ROCm open software at the foundation, we are expanding the compute capacity needed to advance AI innovation across the Kingdom and globally."

"Putting this infrastructure into production demonstrates HUMAIN's ability to build, operate and deliver advanced AI infrastructure at scale," said Tareq Amin, CEO, HUMAIN. "Demand for sovereign, high-performance AI infrastructure continues to grow, and together with AMD and Cisco, we are expanding Saudi Arabia's role as a platform serving customers across the Kingdom, the region and globally."

"The true power of AI lies in its potential to solve some of the world's most complex challenges," said Chuck Robbins, Chair and CEO, Cisco. "The region is moving quickly from AI investment to delivery, and through our work with HUMAIN and AMD, Cisco is building the critical infrastructure to make AI vision a reality – in the Kingdom and beyond."

Building an Open Platform for Sovereign AI

The collaboration is designed to give governments, enterprises, research institutions and developers access to advanced AI capabilities through a platform that brings together open models, open software and locally operated infrastructure.

The platform will give customers greater control over where their data resides, how their models are customized, and how their AI systems are deployed and governed. The AMD high-performance AI compute platforms and open software ecosystem deliver the flexible foundation, while the Cisco network architecture is designed to be open and interoperable, giving customers visibility and centralized control over the environment as capacity scales. This approach will enable organizations to build AI capabilities aligned with their languages, cultures, regulatory requirements and national priorities.

Together, AMD, Cisco and HUMAIN plan to deliver the performance, scale and openness required by AI labs, model providers, enterprises and developers, bringing a new generation of sovereign AI capabilities to Saudi Arabia and the broader global market.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Aug. 31, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Affiniti, the financial operating system built for America's backbone: small and medium-sized businesses. announced a partnership with Fort Lauderdale United FC, becoming the club's Official Kit Partner. The multi-faceted partnership pairs Affiniti's finance platform, including cards, banking, AP, and expense management, with one of South Florida's fastest-growing sports organizations to bring better financial tools to the region's small business owners.

More Than a Jersey

Fort Lauderdale, FL

The partnership makes Affiniti the Official Kit Partner of Fort Lauderdale United FC, placing the Affiniti brand on the club's kit and across its signage, broadcasts, matchday activations, and digital channels. But for both organizations, the relationship extends well beyond visibility.

Affiniti and Fort Lauderdale United FC share a commitment to South Florida's small business community: the home services companies, contractors, medical practices, and family-owned operators that keep the local economy running. Through the partnership, the two organizations will connect South Florida's small business community with financial tools built for how they operate, bringing cards, expense management, AP, banking, and workflow automation into one platform designed to save their two most valuable resources: time and money.

The partnership grew out of an existing relationship. Affiniti first came to know Fort Lauderdale United FC Founder and Chairman Tommy Smith by bringing his own businesses onto the platform.

"So when he brought this opportunity to us, partnering with Fort Lauderdale United FC was an easy decision. Together, we can put real financial tools in the hands of the owners and families who keep this region running."

A Shared Commitment to South Florida

That community connection is what made the partnership a natural fit. As the club builds its presence across the region, Affiniti gains a trusted partner at the center of the South Florida small business ecosystem, and the club gains a partner equipped to bring real financial value to the owners and families in its network.

"We're proud to welcome Affiniti Finance as an official partner of Fort Lauderdale United FC," said Tommy Smith, Founder and Chairman of Fort Lauderdale United FC. "This kit partnership is about more than what appears on the jersey. It reflects a shared commitment to South Florida. Together, we're bringing the club, Affiniti, and our community closer through soccer and financial intelligence."

Newest NPC Report Requested by Energy Secretary Wright Calls for Integrated Assessment of Energy and Minerals like Oil, Natural Gas, Coal, Critical Minerals, Geothermal, Geologic Hydrogen, and Storage Resources.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 31, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Today leaders from state government, Tribal organizations, industry, scientists, and academia recommended urgent action to strengthen America's understanding of its subsurface resources with the release of American Resources for a Secure Future: A National Cooperative Subsurface Assessment Program [https://american-resources.npc.org].

National Petroleum Council (NPC) Chair and ConocoPhillips Chairman and CEO Ryan Lance announced the new report, the latest in NPC's Future Energy Systems series requested by U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, to address rising demand for secure domestic energy and mineral resources. Developed by roughly 80 experts and approved by a decision of the full NPC membership, the study finds that the American subsurface—the source of the nation's oil and gas, coal, essential minerals, geothermal energy, geologic hydrogen, and subsurface storage resources—remains one of the country's most under-characterized strategic assets.

The NPC delivered nine specific recommendations, leading to an overarching vision of an authorized and appropriated National Cooperative Subsurface Assessment Program that builds on existing federal and state agency authorities. These specific recommendations call on Congress, academia, industry, and federal and state agencies to:

Accelerate holistic assessments of the nation's subsurface resources

Prioritize assessments of emerging resources

Acquire priority baseline data to strengthen subsurface assessments

Develop a National Data Portal to ease access to subsurface data

Recover and preserve legacy subsurface data

Evaluate access to proprietary data acquired by industry

Increase development of emerging technology for subsurface resource extraction, mapping, and modeling

Establish a collaborative, long-term planning process

Develop a qualified workforce for subsurface analysis through residencies and partnerships

"America has tremendous resource potential beneath our feet, and those resources play a critical role in our economy, our energy security and our ability to lead in advanced manufacturing to remain competitive for the long term," NPC Chair Ryan Lance said. "This report lays out a practical framework for building a more complete understanding of our subsurface resources and strengthening the nation's ability to identify and support future resource development. I thank Secretary Wright for commissioning this work and the many contributors who brought their expertise to bear."

The report, American Resources for a Secure Future: A National Cooperative Subsurface Assessment Program [https://american-resources.npc.org], details that more than 80 percent of America's energy needs—and the essential feedstocks that power domestic manufacturing, infrastructure, defense, and advanced technologies—come from beneath U.S. soil. Yet much of the nation's subsurface has not been systematically assessed in decades, leaving policymakers, industry, and communities without a shared, modern picture of the resources available to meet growing demand. The study calls for a federally coordinated, cooperative program uniting efforts at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Marine Minerals Administration (MMA), and DOE with state geological surveys, Tribal governments, industry, academia, and other organizations to modernize resource data, prioritize subsurface regions of national significance, and equip the country to make informed decisions on energy, critical minerals, and subsurface storage capacity.

"You can't manage what you haven't measured," said Dr. Scott Tinker, Director Emeritus of the Bureau of Economic Geology at The University of Texas at Austin and cochair of the American Resources report. "For decades, we've made decisions about America's energy and mineral future with an incomplete picture of what's beneath the surface. This report lays out a practical, cooperative path to fix that with industry, government, Tribal nations, and academia at the same table."

"No state can comprehensively characterize a geologic basin or ore body that crosses its borders working alone, and no federal agency can do this work without the state and Tribal partners who know the ground," added Dr. Berry H. "Nick" Tew, Jr., State Geologist of Alabama and Director of the Geological Survey of Alabama, who also cochaired the report. "A cooperative program anchored by USGS and MMA working hand-in-hand with DOE, state geological surveys, Tribes, industry, and academia is the right model and it's overdue."

"Experts across the breadth of the energy and subsurface resource community reached consensus on what America needs and how to deliver it," said John Dabbar, Executive Director of NPC. "The nine recommendations we're delivering to Secretary Wright are specific, actionable, and ready to implement. If enacted through the appropriate policy, legislation, and regulation, these recommendations will help government understand and manage the nation's subsurface resources and enable effective private-sector development. This is a nonpartisan subject; the rocks don't care about surface borders."

American Resources for a Secure Future [https://american-resources.npc.org] joins the NPC's Future Energy Systems series, following the December 2025 release of Reliable Energy: Delivering on the Promise of Gas-Electric Coordination [https://gas-electric.npc.org/] and Bottleneck to Breakthrough: A Permitting Blueprint to Build [https://permitting.npc.org/]. The next components in the series will be released at the annual NPC meeting on December 7, 2026, and address Produced Water and Natural Gas Storage.

The NPC is a federal advisory committee to the Secretary of Energy. Founded in 1946, the NPC is made up of approximately 200 people selected and appointed by the Secretary of Energy to advise, inform, and make recommendations, at the Secretary's request, on matters pertaining to oil and natural gas or to the oil and gas industries.

Twelve-week, six-session program trains cross-departmental champions who together recover more than 3,700 hours of annual capacity

CALABASAS, Calif., Aug. 31, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- NewMark Merrill Companies, Inc., a leading owner, developer, and manager of retail shopping centers in California, Colorado, and Illinois, announced the completion of its AI Pioneer Program, a six-session enterprise initiative that trained 13 employees from across all departments in the organization to design and deploy artificial intelligence solutions for their own day-to-day work.

Rather than adopting a single off-the-shelf AI product, NewMark Merrill took a different approach: it taught its own people to build. Over six structured sessions delivered in partnership with Adaptig, two participants from different departments across the company — Accounting, Collections, Property Management, Leasing, Development, Acquisitions, Information Technology, Marketing and Human Resources — identified real bottlenecks in their own work and built working tools to address them. Who was in the room mattered as much as what they built. These weren't necessarily managers, and deliberately weren't technology experts. They were the people closest to the daily friction, chosen for their ability to spot a problem, build a practical solution, and bring their colleagues along with them.

"The AI Pioneer program at Newmark Merrill helped me identify roadblocks in our acquisition and development processes and build solutions we can roll out across the team," said Taylor Kuchman, Acquisitions & Development Associate. "The time and expertise that Mateo at Adaptig and the team at Newmark Merrill devoted to this also opened my eyes to challenges other departments were facing and the solutions they were putting in place. Those solutions, and the companywide collaboration they created, made this program valuable."

The results were measured throughout the entire process. Participants logged 53 completed solutions and documented 3,783 hours of recovered capacity annually, the equivalent of roughly 473 working days, or nearly two full-time positions returned to higher-value work. Self-assessed output quality rose from 3.2 to 4.3 on a five-point scale, a 34 percent improvement, with the largest gains in the depth and presentation of analytical work.

The solutions span the full breadth of the business. In Acquisitions, underwriting workflows that previously required eight hours of manual document review were reduced to under an hour. In Property Management, daily security patrol reports across multiple centers are now summarized automatically, with exceptions escalated for human review. In Accounting, CAM reconciliations that consumed a full day are now produced in minutes. In Information Technology, a manual Excel-based credit card allocation process was replaced entirely by an internally built web application.

"What impressed me most was not the technology — it was our people," said Sandy Sigal, President and Chief Executive Officer of NewMark Merrill Companies. "We did not hand anyone a tool and tell them to use it. We gave them the skills and asked them to solve the problems they know better than anyone else does. Thirteen employees came back with fifty-three answers. That is the kind of change that lasts, because they own it."

The program concluded recently with a showcase in which each participant presented their work to company leadership. Participants rated the program 4.2 out of 5 for satisfaction, with a Net Promoter Score of +70.

"We have run this program inside a lot of companies, and NewMark Merrill did something most organizations only talk about," said Mateo Romano, Co-Founder of Adaptig. "Sandy deliberately filled that room with people who had no AI background and told them plainly that this would not come from the top — that leadership's job was to remove obstacles, not hand out ideas. That gave the thirteen Pioneers the confidence to bring their real problems: the reconciliation that eats a full day, the report nobody wants to write, the workaround a system has forced on them for years. And because Accounting, Leasing, IT, Operations, Development, Marketing and HR were all around the same table, they solved those problems for each other instead of one department at a time. By the last session they had stopped being users of software and started being the people who build it — that is the change that stays with a company long after we leave."

NewMark Merrill's 13 AI Pioneer Champions are: Ivano Bufi, Delaune Cheney, Samantha Dubon, Chad Kaplan, Taylor Kuchman, Michael Mendez, Tim Murphy, David Rosenthal, Isak Sabzanov, Elijah Sigal, Holly Tartaglino, Artur Tarverdyan, and Larissa Yllescas.

KAOHSIUNG, Aug. 31, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Hot, stuffy factory floors can make work uncomfortable, reduce productivity, and drive up energy bills.

SUNON's bionic HVLS ceiling fans and ultra-mobile industrial fans deliver powerful, wide-reaching airflow to keep large spaces cooler and more comfortable—while using less energy.

Cooler workplaces. Lower energy costs. Better everyday comfort. With SUNON, smarter industrial cooling is here.

The HVLS ceiling fans use seven curved, aircraft-grade aluminum blades with an aerodynamic profile, generating broad, turbulence-free airflow at low speeds rather than relying on high rotational speed like conventional fans. The result is a gentle, natural breeze-like sensation with significantly reduced noise. Powered by SUNON's in-house BLDC motor, the fans achieve over 90% motor efficiency with a maintenance-free, gearless direct-drive design. Users can experience a 5-8°C perceived temperature drop in summer, while a reverse mode in winter redistributes warm ceiling air for year-round energy savings—ideal for factories, warehouses, and large exhibition spaces.

The industrial portable fans are built around a hexagonal honeycomb frame, reinforcing the hub and structure against wind load while keeping the unit lightweight and stable even during extended high-speed use. Standing about 2 meters tall with heavy-duty casters and double-row ball bearings, the fan can be repositioned by a single person for flexible, on-demand cooling at events, sports facilities, and production lines. It also features a BLDC motor, high airflow, low noise, and IP55 waterproofing, and was honored with the 2026 Taiwan Excellence Award.

SUNON's full product line uses EU RoHS-compliant, non-toxic materials, with an engineering team supporting customers in selecting the optimal setup for their space.

About SUNON

Founded in 1980 under the brand promise of "Sun On Everyday," SUNON's signature green identity represents its dual commitment to environmental protection and product safety—plus an ongoing pursuit of sustainability in everything it builds. Guided by this philosophy, the company has focused on core energy-saving motor technologies and pioneered MagLev fan technology, providing industrial, green building, and residential cooling solutions worldwide.

Iran-Krieg - Am Rande eines Flächenbrands

Straubing (ots)
