Wild Blueberry Association of North America Launches Phytonutrients Toolkit for Nutrition Reporters and Educators

Maine-based registered dietitian Jenny Shea Rawn and her 9-year-old daughter, Lexi Rawn, helped translate complex plant science into easy-to-understand food language

OLD TOWN, Maine and FERGUS, ON, Sept. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Wild Blueberry Association of North America (WBANA) today launched The ABCs of Phytonutrients: A Back-to-School Guide to Wild Blueberry Plant Power, a free, science-backed resource that explains what the color in plant foods, like fruits and vegetables, actually means when it comes to nutrition and health. Wild blueberries, a blue-purple favorite, are used as examples throughout the toolkit that reporters, educators, parents, and caregivers can reference for back-to-school and year-round communications.

WBANA tapped registered dietitian Jenny Shea Rawn, MS, MPH, RD, and her 9-year-old daughter, Lexi, to collaborate on the toolkit, guided by the philosophy that if we can't explain something clearly enough for kids to understand, we probably need to use different language.

"Fruit and vegetable color can signal nutrition and health benefits, a connection explained through complex, scientific terms that describe plant compounds," said Rawn, who also co-authored with her daughter the upcoming New England Kids Cookbook: Tasty Favorites for Young Chefs. "Working with Lexi kept me honest about keeping the messaging simple. Wild blueberries provided a familiar example because their blue-purple color makes the term anthocyanins visible and easier to talk about."

"By using analogies, simple language and familiar visuals, complicated concepts suddenly become something children could see and understand and say – it was especially fun working on phonetic pronunciations together," Rawn added. Wild blueberries are native to Maine, where the Rawn family lives, and their vibrant color and flavor naturally inspired many of the recipes in their new cookbook.

About the ABCs Framework

The ABCs of Phytonutrients: A Back-to-School Guide to Wild Blueberry Plant Power uses simple ideas to explain plant compound terminology:

- A is for Anthocyanins: Natural plant pigments that help give wild blueberries and other foods their blue, purple or red color. Anthocyanins act as antioxidants, helping the body manage everyday wear and tear.

- B is for Bioactives: Naturally occurring compounds in foods that scientists study to understand how they interact with the body. Bioactives that come from plants are called phytonutrients.

- C is for Color: Color can provide a visible clue to the presence of certain plant pigments, including anthocyanins.

What's Inside the Toolkit

Four ready-to-use resources:

1. The ABCs of Phytonutrients Guide: Definitions, a plant-compound "family tree" graphic, and a summary of research on plant compounds found in wild blueberries in relation to blood vessel function, cardiometabolic health, gut health and brain health.1

2. Nature's Crayon Box Poster: An educational visual explaining several types of plant pigments brought to life with a color box of crayons.

3. Lunchbox Note: Kid-friendly anthocyanin information and wild blueberry snack ideas.

4. Communication Inspiration: Story angles and ideas for using the toolkit as a teaching tool for students and for families.

"The driving force behind this initiative is that we've observed more consumer publications using different bioactive compound terms when talking about wild blueberries, which led to more customer questions about phytonutrients like anthocyanins and related terms like antioxidants," explains Colleen Craig, who leads WBANA's Health Research Committee. "This toolkit is an important first step to support all those communicating about plant foods, providing simple language and a favorite nutrient-dense fruit, wild blueberries, to explain complex terms." The toolkit is also available on the WBANA Canada site.

About WBANA

The investment will support Tom Beckbe's vision for growth and conservation

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Sept. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Tom Beckbe, the Birmingham-based maker of classic American outdoor apparel and gear, today announced it has received a minority investment from Cox Outdoors.

"We built Tom Beckbe with a focus on great products, great customer service, and support for conservation. Our new partnership with Cox will allow us to double down on those core values," said Radcliff Menge, co-founder of Tom Beckbe. "Cox has been doing business the same way for generations, putting people first and thinking in decades instead of quarters. And that's exactly the partner we wanted."

Founded in 2015 by Radcliff and Mary Menge, Tom Beckbe began with the simple idea for a better hunting jacket. The brand has since grown to offer a full line of apparel and gear for the field and every day, available online and through a growing network of owned and partner stores. Tom Beckbe's newest retail location, in Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood, will open this September.

"We're very excited to be in business with Tom Beckbe. Radcliff and Mary have built a great business on family values and a conservation ethic that resonates with Cox's values," said Alex Taylor, chairman and CEO of Cox Enterprises. "I love their stuff and look forward to building something great together."

Cox Outdoors is Cox Enterprises' newest division, focused on partnering with leading outdoor consumer brands to drive conservation and generational growth. Cox's partnership with Tom Beckbe will support the Menges' growth vision for the business, from new retail stores to continued product development and ongoing work with conservation organizations such as Ducks Unlimited and Bonefish Tarpon Trust.

Tom Beckbe will remain independently run by its founders, with the same team, the same values, and the same commitment to craft that have defined the brand since 2015.

Children's Hospital Colorado, Colorado Springs Joins Golisano Children's Alliance with Historic $40 Million Gift
Image File

Children's Hospital Colorado, Colorado Springs will add "Golisano Children's Hospital" to its name, in recognition of a transformative gift from entrepreneur and philanthropist Tom Golisano

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Sept. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Children's Hospital Colorado, Colorado Springs announced today that it has joined the Golisano Children's Alliance, a national initiative dedicated to elevating pediatric healthcare across the United States. The invitation to the Alliance includes a historic $40 million gift from entrepreneur, philanthropist and civic leader Tom Golisano that will expand pediatric care for children and families across Southern Colorado.

In recognition of Mr. Golisano's investment, the largest philanthropic gift in Children's Colorado's history, Children's Hospital Colorado's Colorado Springs hospital will be renamed Children's Hospital Colorado, Golisano Children's Hospital, Colorado Springs, effective immediately.

The Golisano Children's Alliance provides strategic funding and brings together leading children's hospitals to expand services, strengthen collaboration, and to ensure children and families have access to the highest quality medical care close to home.

"Mr. Golisano's transformational gift is a defining moment for Colorado Springs and a catalyst for our expansion of pediatric care across Southern Colorado," said Greg Raymond, president of Children's Hospital Colorado, Southern Region. "When we opened this hospital for the community, we did so with a bold vision: to bring the highest level of pediatric care closer to home for the children and families of Southern Colorado. This extraordinary gift accelerates our ability to meet heightened community demand and serve thousands more children each year with the expert care they need and deserve."

This gift is dedicated exclusively to Colorado Springs and will accelerate the vision that guided the hospital's founding, enabling the physical expansion of clinical programs and services to meet the region's growing pediatric healthcare needs. Planned capital projects will include additional surgical capacity, outpatient and treatment spaces, inpatient beds, and other facilities designed to reduce wait times and improve access to care.

Mr. Golisano was moved by the unique attributes of the Colorado Springs community, including its leadership, military service, and commitment to excellence. He expressed that Children's Colorado was worthy of his support because the hospital serves children from across Southern Colorado, neighboring states, rural communities, mountain towns and military families. Almost 70 percent of the patients cared for by the hospital rely on Medicaid, TRICARE or other government-supported insurance coverage.

"This investment is intended to elevate pediatric care by advancing services, expanding programs, integrating new medical technologies and fostering collaboration to enable multidisciplinary care that addresses children's health needs," said Golisano. "With this shared vision, the hospital will strengthen its position in pediatric medicine, providing life-changing care of the highest quality with dignity to children and their families close to home."

Children's Colorado opened its Colorado Springs hospital in 2019 as Southern Colorado's first pediatric-only hospital. Prior to its opening, Colorado Springs was one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country without a dedicated children's hospital, and many families traveled hours to access specialized pediatric care.

Since opening, the hospital has seen significant growth in demand for pediatric care across Southern Colorado. From 2019 to 2025, emergency department visits more than tripled, surgical cases more than doubled and unique patient visits nearly tripled, underscoring the hospital's expanding role as a regional destination for specialized pediatric care.

"Tom Golisano's historic gift is a profound expression of confidence in our mission as a nonprofit hospital, our team members and the children and families in Southern Colorado," said Jena Hausmann, president and CEO of Children's Hospital Colorado. "He has dedicated his life to creating opportunities and improving lives, and we are deeply honored to be part of that commitment. Through his philanthropic investment and our participation in the Golisano Children's Alliance, we will ensure that more children receive the expert care they need, closer to home."

As a nonprofit health system, Children's Colorado continues to rely on donor generosity to support patient and family programs, clinical innovation, research, education, pediatric mental health and other critical services that are fueled by philanthropy. The community can join Tom Golisano in investing in nationally leading pediatric care by visiting www.supportchildrenscolorado.org.

AI in Virtual Medical Assistant Market to Reach US$ 12.3 Bn by 2031, Growing at 36.5% CAGR, New Report by Wissen Research
Image File
Original HTML

SHERIDAN, Wyo., Sept. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The global AI in virtual medical assistant market is projected to grow from USD 2.6 billion in 2026 to USD 12.3 billion by 2031, registering a CAGR of 36.5% during the forecast period (2026–2031), according to a new study by Wissen Research.

Growth is being driven by rising demand for personalized healthcare support, remote patient engagement, and automation of routine clinical workflows. AI-powered virtual assistants help with symptom assessment, appointment scheduling, medication reminders, and access to health information through conversational AI interfaces. Healthcare providers are adopting the technology to cut administrative workload, improve patient communication, and strengthen care coordination — with advances in generative AI and natural language processing (NLP) accelerating adoption alongside the broader growth of telehealth.

See the Full Data Behind This Forecast — Get a Free Sample Report:

Where the Technology Is Heading: From Chatbots to Autonomous Care Agents

Virtual medical assistants have moved well past the scripted, rule-based chatbots of a few years ago. Today's platforms combine large language models (LLMs), ambient listening technology, and multi-agent AI systems to understand clinical context, automate documentation, and recommend follow-up actions with minimal patient input.

Ambient clinical intelligence — AI that listens to and interprets a clinical conversation without requiring direct input — is enabling assistants to draft notes, suggest orders, and support decision-making in real time. Meanwhile, agentic AI systems are emerging that can proactively manage patient interactions: scheduling appointments, monitoring health conditions, and initiating next steps in a care pathway on their own. This shift is expanding the role of virtual assistants from passive information tools into active participants in care delivery.

What's Fueling Growth in the AI Virtual Medical Assistant Market

- Clinician Burnout and Workforce Shortages: Rapid adoption of AI-powered workflow automation and clinical documentation tools is helping offset rising burnout and an ongoing nursing shortage.

- Value-Based Care Expansion: Growing reliance on accurate, AI-assisted clinical coding is supporting reimbursement accuracy as value-based care models expand.

- EHR Interoperability: Integration through FHIR APIs is enabling virtual assistants to deploy seamlessly across existing electronic health record platforms.

- Administrative Automation: Automating prior authorization and related administrative processes is reducing delays in patient care and easing provider workload.

- 24/7 Patient Support Demand: Rising expectations for round-the-clock patient access are accelerating adoption of conversational AI assistants across hospitals, clinics, and payer organizations.

- Remote Patient Monitoring Growth: Expanding integration with wearables and connected health devices is extending virtual assistants into chronic disease management and preventive care.

Challenges Facing the AI Virtual Medical Assistant Market

Despite strong growth, the sector faces real adoption barriers. Data privacy and cybersecurity concerns remain front and center given the sensitivity of medical records and the strict regulatory frameworks governing healthcare data. Ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and safety of AI-generated responses is a critical requirement, particularly where patients are the direct audience. Interoperability with legacy healthcare IT systems, evolving AI governance frameworks, uncertain reimbursement policy, and clinician hesitancy around over-reliance on AI in clinical decision-making all continue to shape the pace of adoption.

Recent Strategic Developments in the AI Virtual Medical Assistant Market

In March 2026, Amazon.com, Inc. launched Health AI, a virtual medical assistant offering personalized health guidance, medical record explanation, prescription management, and appointment booking — expanding Amazon's digital health ecosystem.

In February 2026, Oracle Corporation expanded its Oracle Health Clinical AI Agent with automated clinical order creation, using ambient listening and AI reasoning to draft prescriptions, lab orders, imaging orders, and follow-up appointments.

Also in February 2026, Epic Systems Corporation launched AI Charting and broadened its AI portfolio to include automated clinical documentation, order suggestions, scheduling, billing assistance, and conversational support through MyChart.

These moves reflect a market where EHR incumbents and major cloud/technology providers are racing to embed AI assistants directly into existing clinical workflows rather than positioning them as standalone tools.

Key Insights from AI Virtual Medical Assistant Market Analysis

- EHR/EMR-integrated systems led the market by offering type in 2025, accounting for an estimated 42–48% of global revenue, as healthcare providers favor solutions that plug directly into existing clinical workflows over standalone applications.

- North America held the largest regional market share in 2025, supported by deep EHR penetration, mature healthcare IT infrastructure, and a complex reimbursement landscape that rewards documentation accuracy.

- Asia-Pacific is the fastest-growing region, driven by expanding smartphone access, telemedicine adoption, and rising government investment in digital health infrastructure across China, India, Japan, South Korea, and Australia.

- Strong interoperability requirements and healthcare data privacy regulations continue to favor integrated, enterprise-grade deployments over point solutions.

Key Players in the AI Virtual Medical Assistant Market

Leading companies are focused on embedding AI directly into clinical workflows, expanding EHR integration, and building out generative-AI-powered patient engagement capabilities.

Regional Analysis and Growth Opportunities

North America remains the largest market for AI-powered virtual medical assistants, underpinned by decades of investment in healthcare IT, widespread EHR adoption, and a reimbursement landscape that rewards documentation accuracy and administrative efficiency — conditions that make large-scale VMA deployment across hospitals, physician practices, and integrated delivery networks comparatively straightforward.

Asia-Pacific is the fastest-growing region, propelled by rising smartphone penetration, expanding telemedicine access, and growing government investment in digital health and AI infrastructure across China, India, Japan, South Korea, and Australia. As preventive care and mobile health adoption rise across the region, AI virtual assistants are positioned to play a growing role in extending healthcare access beyond traditional clinical settings.

Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East & Africa complete the report's regional coverage, with adoption shaped by regulatory frameworks for AI governance and data privacy alongside growing digital health investment.

PEAKING: PSYCHEDELICS AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS takes viewers inside dosing rooms to watch psychedelic healing as it happens.
Image File
Original HTML

The film takes viewers inside dosing rooms for extremely rare looks at the remarkable power, emotion, and speed of psychedelic healing in action: from pro athletes repairing brain damage from concussions, to combat veterans finding relief from suicidal despair, to a woman breaking free from opioid addiction, to survivors of the Nova Music Festival massacre who say being on psychedelics during the attack shielded them from developing lasting trauma.

PEAKING also traces the turbulent history of how psychedelics were criminalized in the 1960s, and how they've since climbed from the underground to the mainstream in a rise that might soon lead to their legalization in the United States and beyond.

"Much has been written about psychedelic experiences, but they've rarely been captured on camera," said Jordan Kronick, the film's 10-time Emmy Award-winning director and producer. "We want viewers to see for themselves what psychedelic healing actually looks like — especially now, at this zeitgeist moment, when the cultural interest in psychedelics is at an all-time high."

PEAKING explores all the major psychedelics: psilocybin (magic mushrooms) in Oregon with two-time Stanley Cup champion Daniel Carcillo and former NHL player Stephen Johns; ayahuasca in the Amazon jungle with U.S. combat veterans; LSD and MDMA in Israel with Nova Music Festival survivors; ibogaine in Mexico with Amber Hedrick, a longtime opioid user; and toad (Bufo) in the California desert with a group of psychedelic explorers.

For history, policy and scientific context, PEAKING features many of the leading voices in the world of psychedelics, including Rick Doblin, the godfather of the movement to legalize psychedelics; Robin Carhart-Harris, the world's foremost psychedelic scientist; and Jesse Gould, a former Army Ranger and founder of Heroic Hearts Projects, a nonprofit that has funded psychedelic treatments abroad for more than 1,500 veterans.

Following its world premiere in Los Angeles at the historic Chinese Theatres, as part of the film festival Dances With Films, PEAKING begins its theatrical release on September 25, 2026 at Cinema 21 in Portland, Oregon with a special advance screening on September 24, 2026 which will be followed by a live Q&A with a cast member, the Executive Producers, and the Producer/Director. Minnesota PBS Announces New Hosts for Relish Season 7, Premiering Spring 2027

St. Paul's Karyn Tomlinson and Rochester's Tiffany Alexandria will bring two distinct perspectives to the beloved Minnesota food series

SAINT PAUL, Minn., Sept. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Relish is entering a new chapter with two hosts at the helm for Season 7, premiering on Minnesota PBS in Spring 2027. Acclaimed St. Paul chef Karyn Tomlinson and Rochester food storyteller Tiffany Alexandria will co-host the series, marking the first time Relish will feature two hosts.

Tomlinson is the chef and owner of Myriel in St. Paul where she brings together Midwestern ingredients, French technique, and the food traditions of her Minnesota upbringing. Her cooking draws inspiration from the state's farms, forests, and culinary heritage, offering a distinctly Minnesota perspective on food and hospitality.

"I'm thrilled to join Relish and have the opportunity to explore the incredible food stories happening throughout Minnesota," said Karyn Tomlinson. "Food tells us so much about who we are, where we come from, and what we value. I'm looking forward to meeting the people who are shaping Minnesota's food culture and sharing those stories with viewers across the state."

Based in Rochester, Alexandria is the founder of the Rochester Night Market, a community gathering that celebrates local food, culture, and connection. Originally from Taiwan, she uses food to share her cultural heritage and create connections among Minnesotans. Through pop-up dinners, dumpling classes, photography, and storytelling, Alexandria celebrates local, seasonal ingredients while supporting small businesses and sustainability. Her work brings together cultures and communities and reflects the diverse food traditions that make Minnesota home.

"Food has always been one of my favorite ways to connect people and cultures," said Tiffany Alexandria. "I'm excited to bring my perspective to Relish and to introduce viewers to the people, ingredients, traditions and stories that make Minnesota so special. There is so much happening beyond the places we already know, and I can't wait to get out there and discover it together."

Together, Tomlinson and Alexandria bring complementary perspectives to Relish, drawing on their experiences in Minnesota's food communities and their connections to a range of cultures and communities. Their shared curiosity will help Relish explore the people, places, traditions, and stories that make Minnesota's food culture distinctive — from established culinary destinations to unexpected food stories in communities large and small.

Season 7 of Relish will premiere on Minnesota PBS in Spring 2027. Additional details, including the premiere date and episode lineup, will be announced at a later date.

2O3 Launches a Performance Hydration Beverage With Electrolytes and Honey
Image File
Original HTML

Athlete-founded brand debuts a ready-to-drink formula built for demanding training and competition

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- 2O3, a new performance hydration brand founded by record-holding powerlifter Johnny Kaufman and consumer-products entrepreneur Nelson Cury, today announced that its first ready-to-drink beverage is now available. The beverage combines 1,000 mg of sodium, 340 mg of potassium, and 60 mg of magnesium with honey to support faster hydration and provide both readily available and sustained energy.

2O3 was created around the belief that a complete hydration system should provide the primary electrolytes lost through sweat together with glucose, which supports the absorption of sodium and water. The founders saw a gap in the market for a product that delivered both in meaningful amounts from natural sources.

The 16-ounce, non-carbonated beverage comes in two flavors, Hydro-Lime and Orange Mango, and is made with real fruit. It contains no processed sugars or artificial sweeteners and is designed for use around demanding training and competition.

The idea originated from Kaufman's experience in strength sports, where athletes have long used honey and electrolytes together in informal combinations. Kaufman and Cury developed 2O3 to bring that approach into a consistent and convenient product.

2O3 was built in partnership with the strength community it will serve first. Its founding athlete team includes Kaufman alongside Jamal Browner, Austin Perkins, Rondel Hunte, and Sean Mills. The athletes have helped shape the brand around the needs and experiences of people training and competing at a high level.

"I've always studied record holders and emulated the habits that helped them reach the top," said Kaufman. "Honey and electrolytes became constants in my own training, but getting everything I needed meant piecing it together myself. We built 2O3 so athletes wouldn't have to."

The ready-to-drink beverage is the first format from 2O3. The company has also spent the past three years developing a stable powdered form of honey and plans to use it to expand the 2O3 hydration system into other form factors.

"The conversation around sugar has become too binary," said Cury, whose family has produced sugar in Brazil for four generations. "Performance products often remove it entirely without considering what they may be giving up. With 2O3, we want to explore the many ways honey can be used in modern performance nutrition. That means using carbohydrates purposefully, without relying on processed sugars or artificial sweeteners. This beverage is only the first expression of that idea."

2O3 hosted its official launch event in Houston on September 5. Its RTDs are available at 2o3.com and in select gyms around the country. Follow the brand @drink2o3 on Instagram.
