Arc XP Launches Compass: A Home Page That Knows Who's Reading It, and a Newsroom That Still Decides What Leads

Arc XP Compass recognizes a returning reader, remembers what they read last, and shows them what they missed. Editors still decide what leads.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Arc XP, the media technology platform built inside The Washington Post, launched Arc XP Compass, a personalization engine for news home pages and section fronts. Arc XP Compass tells a returning reader from a first-time one, remembers what each read last, and rebuilds the page around it. It is the experience Instagram and TikTok trained a generation to expect, applied to news. The difference is who sets the priorities: editors still decide what leads.

Publishers just crossed a threshold. Social media and video networks have, for the first time, overtaken publishers' own websites and apps as the most common way people get news, used by 54% of respondents across 48 markets against 51% for news organizations' own sites and apps, according to the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism's Digital News Report 2026.

Catch Me Up is the clearest example. A wildfire breaks out Monday, and a reader follows the first evacuation orders that night. She is off the news for three days. By Thursday, the story has moved four times: containment lines held, two neighborhoods cleared to return, the county opened an investigation into the local utility, the casualty count revised. Arc XP Compass knows she was here and where she stopped, and opens with a recap of what changed while she was gone, in order, built from the newsroom's own reporting rather than a generated summary. A first-time visitor sees none of it.

Behind that summary, every update on the fire sits in a single storyline called Dynamic Timelines, instead of scattering across a dozen separate links. Editors keep their hands on the wheel: Editorial Priority Controls lets them pin, boost, or bury any story directly, so the personalization never drifts from the newsroom's own judgment.

The pressure is concentrated among younger readers. Among 18-to-24-year-olds, 52% now name social media, video networks or AI chatbots as their main way of getting news, 32 points ahead of the next source. Publishers' own sites and apps are no longer the main source of news for any age group globally. Ten percent worldwide used a standalone AI chatbot for news last week, up from 7% a year earlier, and 16% among under-35s. Referral traffic is fragile too: Google Discover traffic to Reach, the UK's largest commercial news publisher, fell 46% in the second half of 2025, per the company's investor disclosure.

A general-purpose chatbot cannot replicate what a newsroom builds over years: an editorial voice, a reader's trust, and an archive of its own reporting. Global trust in answers from AI chatbots sits at 20%, against 37% for news overall. Arc XP calls the approach adaptive discovery.

Arc XP Compass is platform-agnostic. It works with any content management system or delivery stack, whether or not a newsroom runs the rest of its site on the Arc XP hybrid CMS platform.

"Publishers don't want to hand their relationship with readers over to somebody else's algorithm. They want a better version of their own front page," said Ryan Gladstone, Director of Product Engineering, Arc XP. "Arc XP Compass lets a newsroom's priorities guide the experience while still meeting each reader where they left off. A chatbot can't do that, and a generic recommendation engine won't respect the newsroom."

Availability

Arc XP Compass is generally available beginning September 2026. To view a short video of Arc XP Compass, please visit: https://hubs.la/Q04xNZX50

ASMAX at CIMAMotor 2026: Rethinking What a Motorcycle Intercom Should Be

CHONGQING, China, Sept. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- ASMAX signaled a new era of motorcycle communication at CIMAMotor 2026, unveiling RoamX, the world's first screen-equipped motorcycle intercom headset, and officially launching ASMAX Racing Program with international racer Valentin Debise and Chinese performance motorcycle brand ZXMOTO. Together, they mark a new chapter for ASMAX—from making advanced communication technology accessible to rethinking what the motorcycle intercom can become.

BORN TO RIDE: Rethinking the Motorcycle Intercom

On September 20, ASMAX held its "BORN TO RIDE" technology launch event, introducing RoamX after three years of full-chain R&D. Built with industrial-grade technology, RoamX takes a pioneering approach to intercom form, interaction, and personalization.

RoamX features 32-rider Mesh communication, an industry-first 53mm ultra-large speakerunit, and professional-grade audio tuning. Its customizable display and personalized themes make the headset an extension of the rider's identity, while intuitive controls and smart connectivity simplify group communication.

Rather than competing only on range or specifications, RoamX responds to what riders increasingly expect: better sound, easier interaction, greater personalization, and a more intuitive experience. It marks ASMAX's evolution from proving advanced technology could be made accessible to exploring a new direction for motorcycle communication.

RoamX debuted as a technology preview at CIMAMotor 2026, with product details and availability to follow.

ASMAX Racing Program: From the Racetrack to the Riding World

The event also marked the official launch of ASMAX The Racing Program. Two collaborative editions debuted at CIMAMotor: the DEBISE Racing Edition, developed with ASMAX Global Brand Ambassador and professional racer Valentin Debise, and the ZXMOTO Ride Edition, created with Chinese performance motorcycle brand ZXMOTO.

Together, they represent different expressions of the rider spirit—focus, passion, performance, and shared experience. From professional racetracks to everyday riding, the collaborations bring ASMAX communication technology into demanding riding environments.

ASMAX at CIMAMotor 2026

Held in Chongqing from September 19–22, CIMAMotor 2026 brings together the global motorcycle community. At Hall N4, Booth 4T45, ASMAX presents its latest riding communication technologies and a broader vision for the category—moving from function toward experience, personalization, and expression.

About ASMAX

ASMAX is a global outdoor communication technology brand focused on smart riding, IoT connectivity, and intelligent communication solutions, developing technology that connects riders and enhances outdoor experiences.

XCMG Opens 11th Staff Arts Festival, Reaching More Than 5.3 Million Worldwide

XUZHOU, China, Sept. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The 11th XCMG Staff Arts Festival opened in Xuzhou on September 19, with more than 3,000 employees from XCMG's businesses and operations taking part. Under the theme "Charming XCMG, Everyone Shines," the festival showcased XCMG's employee culture and corporate growth through performances, construction equipment displays and a global livestream.

The event was carried by more than 50 media outlets and social media platforms worldwide, reaching an audience of more than 5.3 million and generating more than 400,000 views overseas.

The festival brought performances by employees together with XCMG construction machinery, giving employees in different roles an opportunity to shine while connecting colleagues in China and overseas. The equipment was more than a backdrop: it helped set up the stage, lighting and sound systems, making the machinery itself part of the event.

The performances unfolded in three sections — "Charming XCMG People," "Now Is the Time to Pursue Our Dreams" and "A Journey in Song" — using music, dance and other art forms to tell the stories of frontline employees' work, professional aspirations and growth alongside the company.

Yang Dongsheng, chairman of XCMG Group and XCMG Machinery, described the festival as both an artistic event and a cultural celebration created for employees. He said the theme, "Charming XCMG, Everyone Shines," reflects XCMG's commitment to giving employees a platform to showcase their talents while celebrating the dedication, innovation and pursuit of excellence demonstrated across its workforce.

The event was staged against the backdrop of the world's first 14,000-ton ring crane. XCMG crawler and wheeled cranes jointly hoisted a large screen, while dozens of aerial work platforms and cranes supported the installation of lighting, sound and other facilities, making construction machinery an integral part of the stage presentation.

Tracing its roots to a staff arts performance in 1992, the festival has evolved over more than three decades into a companywide cultural event encompassing music and dance, calligraphy and painting, performances, and cultural and creative programs. Over the same period, XCMG has grown into the world's third-largest construction machinery manufacturer.

The festival also featured a food market, XCMG-branded merchandise and interactive brand and technology exhibits. That evening, 2,000 drones took to the sky for a 12-scene light show built around the theme, bringing industry, art and technology together in a visual highlight.

Global M&A Value Rises as Megadeals Return, but the Recovery Remains Narrow
Image File
Original HTML

- BCG Finds That Global M&A Value Rose 15% in the First Eight Months of 2026, with Gains Concentrated at the Top of the Market

- The Number of Megadeals (Transactions of $10 Billion+) Climbed to 37 During the January to August Period, Up from 24 a Year Earlier and Above 2021's Record of 32

- But Deal Activity Below $1 Billion Remains Below Longer-Term Norms, and BCG's M&A Sentiment Index, Despite Rising to 83 from 79, Stands Well Below Its Long-Term Average of 100

- As Capital and Strategic Appetite Remain Available, Asset Readiness, Valuation Gaps, and Execution Hurdles Increasingly Determine Which Transactions Move Forward

BOSTON, Sept. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Global M&A activity strengthened further in the first eight months of 2026, with aggregate deal value rising 15% year over year and exceeding the ten-year average by 11%. Megadeals worldwide climbed to 37, up from 24 during the same period last year, surpassing the record of 32 reached in 2021. But deal volume across much of the rest of the market has yet to recover, leaving the rebound narrower than the aggregate numbers suggest.

These are among the findings of a new report from Boston Consulting Group (BCG), M&A Report 2026, released today. The analysis draws on data from LSEG and from BCG's proprietary M&A Sentiment Index and M&A Explorer platform, which measure the near-term deal outlook and market performance of M&A deals.

"Capital and strategic appetite are available," said Jens Kengelbach, global leader of Mergers & Acquisitions at BCG and a coauthor of the report. "The bottleneck has shifted to execution: finding transaction-ready assets, bridging valuation gaps, and clearing the operational and regulatory hurdles required to close. Until more deals pass those tests, the recovery will remain concentrated at the top of the market."

A Market Recovering Only at the Top

Divergence is clearest by deal size. Transactions valued at $1 billion or more are running above longer-term norms, while the volume of lower-tier deals—especially for small-cap and midcap transactions—remains below normal levels even before adjusting for inflation, which would make the shortfall more pronounced.

BCG identifies five tests for assessing deal executability: asset readiness, market-clearing economics, resilient financing, organizational capacity, and regulatory clearance. Asset availability and economics are currently the most binding constraints on a broader recovery; financing and organizational capacity are less restricted at the market level, although they still shape individual deals.

Sentiment Is Improving, but Unevenly

BCG's M&A Sentiment Index—a proprietary approach to measuring current near-term deal outlook that combines fundamental market drivers with AI-based analysis of corporate communications—rose to 83 in the first eight months of 2026, up from 79 at the start of the year but below its long-term average of 100. The improvement is uneven across sectors: sentiment was strongest in financial institutions and real estate (108), health care (100), and energy (96), while industrials (66), consumer (64), and technology (52) lagged. Notably, the weaker deal sentiment reading in the technology and consumer sectors sits alongside continued deal-value growth in both. Technology, media, and telecommunications remained the largest sector by aggregate deal value, up 11% year over year, while consumer deal value rose 20%.

AI Is Fueling Deals and Complicating Them

AI is playing a dual role in the current cycle. It is encouraging new investment and deal activity in parts of the market but also adding uncertainty around the durability of business models, revenue pools, and competitive positioning in others, making some assets harder to value and transact. A sharp correction in software company valuations earlier this year, together with a pullback in private-equity software deal activity, is an early sign of that dynamic.

Beyond the headline numbers, the report offers several key insights:

- The rebound is regionally uneven. North America led global M&A activity by a wide margin, accounting for more than half of aggregate deal value. Europe posted the strongest percentage growth of any major region, while Asia-Pacific activity declined.

- Regulatory risk is shifting rather than receding. Conventional antitrust enforcement may be less restrictive in parts of the market, but national-security screening, foreign-investment controls, and foreign-subsidy reviews increasingly influence deal terms, timing, and economics.

- Portfolio rotation can broaden the recovery. A greater number of divestitures, carve-outs, and private equity exits could increase the supply of prepared assets and free up capital for higher-priority businesses in the next leg of the M&A recovery.

- Alternative deal structures can bridge uncertainty. Minority investments, joint ventures, staged acquisitions, earnouts, and rollover equity can help parties share valuation, technology, control, and regulatory risk. More dealmakers, especially in the AI ecosystem, are using those structures to get deals done.

"AI is doing two things to this market at once," said Daniel Friedman, global leader of Transactions & Integrations at BCG and a coauthor of the report. "It's a reason to do more deals and a reason some deals are harder to close. The companies that get furthest ahead are likely to be the ones that have actually worked out which is true for the asset in front of them."

Africa Makes its Case for a Bigger Role on the Global Stage

GABI's Unstoppable Africa 2026 brings global leaders together on Africa's push to capture more value from its resources, accelerate investment and strengthen its influence in global trade and decision-making.

NEW YORK, Sept. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Africa is pushing for a bigger role in shaping the global economy, as business leaders, heads of state, investors, policymakers, and global partners converged in New York yesterday to articulate the continent's ambition in global trade, investment, and value creation. Held alongside the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Unstoppable Africa 2026 put Africa's business agenda at the center of the global conversation.

The fifth edition of the Global Africa Business Initiative's (GABI) flagship convening drew senior leaders from across business, government, and global institutions to the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, including UN Secretary-General H.E. António Guterres; H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission; and Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the President of the United States on Arab and African Affairs.

The UN Secretary-General called for action to give Africa a greater role on the global stage, including a permanent presence on the United Nations Security Council: "Africa needs a permanent presence on the United Nations Security Council, where it can contribute to dialogue and action for the whole globe." He stressed that Africa's growing influence in global markets must translate into a stronger voice in international affairs. Guterres also urged reforms to better reflect the needs of developing countries, particularly in Africa, and for the continent's natural resources, including critical minerals, to generate more local value and decent jobs rather than simply being exported.

With critical minerals, trade, energy, and investment dominating the first day, Unstoppable Africa reflected a wider shift in Africa's economic story: from supplying the global economy to building more of the businesses, industries, and value chains that can capture the opportunity.

H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, said Africa's 1.5 billion people and growing market create a significant opportunity, but the continent must accelerate the development of African value chains and remove barriers to trade to drive industrial transformation. He identified affordable energy, better infrastructure, access to finance, skills, technology, and clear standards as critical requirements for Africa to turn its market potential into faster economic growth.

The private sector took center stage, as African and global business leaders articulated what it will take to turn Africa's resources, markets, and talent into productive economic capacity. The Leaders Panel brought together Samaila Zubairu, President and CEO of the Africa Finance Corporation; Aliko Dangote, Founder and Chairman of the Dangote Group; Mandy DeFilippo, CEO of Americas, Europe, Middle East and Africa at Standard Chartered; Nonkululeko Nyembezi, Chairperson of Standard Bank Group; Nolitha Fakude, Chairperson of Anglo American South Africa; and Tidjane Thiam, General Partner at Allied Critical Minerals Fund.

Leaders stressed the need to move beyond exporting raw materials, including critical minerals and crude oil, by developing local processing, manufacturing, and value chains that create jobs and retain more economic value on the continent.

One of the highlights announced today was that the US$300 million Nigeria Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) Fund has reached its first close, securing its initial capital commitments and moving into operation. Co-managed by the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) and Africa50, the fund will provide equity financing to local clean-energy developers, supporting decentralized solutions including solar mini-grids, solar home systems, commercial and industrial power solutions, and energy storage. Aligned with Mission 300, which aims to connect 300 million Africans to electricity by 2030, the fund is designed to mobilize private investment and expand reliable energy access for Nigerian homes and businesses.

Energy was another major focus. Anna Bjerde, Managing Director of Operations at the World Bank Group, and Damilola Ogunbiyi, CEO and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All, joined discussions on how innovative finance could unlock investment in Africa's power infrastructure and accelerate access to reliable energy.

Healthcare also featured within the wider economic conversation. Roche reaffirmed its commitment to advancing breast cancer care through its Africa Breast Cancer Ambition (ABCA), which aims to help 80% of women diagnosed with breast cancer in Africa survive for at least five years by 2030.

Unstoppable Africa 2026 continues today, September 21st, with further sessions focused on digital transformation, investment, creative industries, sport, and Africa's role in the global economy.
