Local Gym Chain to Remain Open in Greenspoint Mall Throughout Construction Before Moving into its Newest Facility in Texas.

HOUSTON, Sept. 29, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Fitness Connection, a Texas-based fitness chain committed to providing premium fitness at an accessible price, today announced plans for a new 45,000-square-foot facility as part of the recently announced $150 million CityNorth industrial park redevelopment that will transform the former Greenspoint Mall site.

The announcement marks the next chapter in a relationship between Fitness Connection and the Greenspoint community that spans more than two decades.

Fitness Connection's story in Greenspoint began in March 2005, when it opened its club inside Greenspoint Mall. As most businesses moved out, Fitness Connection remained committed to serving its members and the North Houston community, and is currently the only remaining business in the mall. Fitness Connection is now working in partnership with Lincoln and New York Life Real Estate, to remain open in its current location as construction on the project begins.

"Fitness Connection is proud to reaffirm our longstanding commitment to the Greenspoint community as this redevelopment brings new energy and investment to the area," says Fitness Connection CEO Phil Howard. "We're excited to remain open throughout this transformation and to continue investing in the community we've proudly served for years. As Greenspoint enters its next chapter, we look forward to growing alongside it and continuing to provide a place where our members and neighbors can prioritize their health and wellness."

Once the CityNorth redevelopment reaches the appropriate stage, Fitness Connection will move into its brand-new facility. The estimated $15 million facility will include state-of-the-art strength and cardio equipment, premium recovery amenities like cold and compression therapy, and a few unique experiences that Fitness Connection will reveal at a later time.

Demolition of the mall is slated to begin in October 2026 and is expected to support approximately 300 construction jobs and accommodate 1,200 full-time jobs when fully developed.

"Fitness Connection has served the Greenspoint community for more than 20 years, and keeping the club at the site was an important part of our plan for CityNorth," said Kevin Wyatt, Executive Vice President for Lincoln. "The new facility will give Fitness Connection a modern home where it can continue serving its members while growing alongside the broader redevelopment."

The CityNorth announcement follows a $12 million investment by Fitness Connection to upgrade clubs across the Dallas and Houston markets with new equipment, refreshed interiors and updated branding. The Carrollton, Federal and The Woodlands clubs underwent the most significant transformations, adding expanded strength training spaces and premium recovery amenities. A fourth location in Pasadena is currently undergoing similar upgrades, with completion expected in early November. With additional club transformations planned for 2027, Fitness Connection continues to invest in creating a more premium member experience across its U.S. markets.

The investments are part of Fitness Connection's broader commitment to creating high-quality fitness environments traditionally found in boutique studios, but providing them without the premium price tag.

Footprints Floors CEO Bryan Park Named Most Admired CEO by Denver Business Journal

Air Force veteran recognized for values-driven leadership, national franchise growth and community impact

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Sept. 29, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Footprints Floors founder and CEO Bryan Park has been named one of the Denver Business Journal's Most Admired CEOs of 2026, recognizing his leadership within the company, the flooring industry and the communities Footprints Floors serves.

Since founding Footprints Floors in 2008, Park has grown the company from a local flooring installation business in Colorado into a national franchise system with more than 150 territories across the country. His approach to leadership has been shaped in part by his service in the U.S. Air Force and centers on integrity, follow-through, service and creating opportunities for others to succeed.

"This recognition means a great deal to me because it reflects the values we've worked hard to uphold at Footprints Floors," said Park. "Integrity, serving others and helping people succeed have always mattered more to me than growth for the sake of growth. I'm incredibly proud of the people across our organization who live those values every day."

Park founded Footprints Floors during the 2008 financial crisis after identifying an opportunity to bring greater transparency and reliability to the flooring industry. He built the company around quality craftsmanship, clear communication and fair pricing, while creating a lower-overhead model focused on professional installation rather than traditional showrooms and material inventory.

Customers select and purchase materials from the vendor of their choice, while Footprints Floors manages the installation process.

Park began franchising the concept in 2013, building a system that provides local business owners with training, technology, marketing resources and operational support while allowing them to remain closely connected to the communities they serve. As the network has expanded, Footprints Floors has continued investing in the tools, partnerships and resources designed to help franchise owners build sustainable local businesses.

Community involvement has also remained a central part of Park's leadership. He established the First Fruits Fund, through which Footprints Floors pledges a portion of corporate profits to nonprofit organizations. The company also holds an annual First Fruits Service Day, bringing employees together to volunteer with organizations serving their communities.

Park and his wife also co-founded Joyful Light, a nonprofit Christian youth theater organization that provides young people with a faith-based environment to gather, grow and give through the performing arts. Footprints Floors supports the organization through volunteer work as well as assistance with set design, sound and lighting.

Beyond Footprints Floors, Park serves on the National Wood Flooring Association Board of Directors, contributing to industry education and professional standards. As an Air Force veteran, he has also supported veteran entrepreneurship through a 10% discount on the initial Footprints Floors franchise fee for qualified veterans.

The Denver Business Journal's Most Admired CEO recognition highlights executives whose leadership extends beyond business performance to their industries and communities.

Its sister brand, Footprints Bath & Tile, provides bathroom remodeling, shower and custom tile installation services. Through the First Fruits Fund, Footprints Floors also supports nonprofit organizations serving families, youth and communities.

OAK FARMS® GIVES BACK TO TEXAS SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS THROUGH "THROUGH IT ALL, OUR ROOTS REMAIN" CAMPAIGN
Image File

Beloved Texas dairy brand will award $15,000 to a nominated school, $5,000 to one student, and $1,500 each to five additional students as part of its "Give Back to School" initiative

DALLAS, Sept. 29, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Oak Farms® Dairy is giving back to the Texas communities that have supported the brand for generations as part of its ongoing "Through It All, Our Roots Remain" campaign.

Through a new "Give Back to School" initiative, Oak Farms will provide $27,500 in total awards to deserving Texas schools and students, turning the spirit of the campaign into meaningful action in communities across the state.

One nominated Texas school will receive $15,000, one student will receive $5,000, and five additional students will receive $1,500 each.

For more than a century, Oak Farms has grown alongside Texas. Families have changed, communities have grown, generations have come and gone, but Oak Farms' connection to Texas has remained.

That enduring relationship is the idea behind "Through It All, Our Roots Remain" – a campaign celebrating Oak Farms' deep roots in Texas and the people, families, and communities that have made the brand part of everyday life for generations.

Now, Oak Farms is bringing that commitment directly into Texas communities by giving back to the schools and students helping shape what comes next. "Texas families have supported Oak Farms for generations, and giving back is one of the most meaningful ways we can show what that relationship means to us," Bill Murphy, Vice President of Sales. "Through it all, our roots remain right here in Texas, and those roots are ultimately about people and communities. Supporting Texas schools and students allows us to celebrate where we come from while investing in the next generation."

Turning Texas Roots into Action

As part of the campaign, Oak Farms is going beyond celebrating its Texas heritage by giving directly back to the communities that have helped shape the brand.

At the center of the "Give Back to School" initiative is a $15,000 award for one nominated Texas school.

Texans are invited to nominate a school that has made a meaningful impact in its community and share why it deserves to be recognized. The award is designed to support the students, teachers, programs and families that make local schools an essential part of communities across the state.

Oak Farms will also recognize individual students. One nominated student will receive $5,000, while five additional students will each receive $1,500, expanding the initiative's impact to students and families throughout Texas.

Giving Back to the State Oak Farms Calls Home

For generations, Oak Farms has been part of the everyday moments that make up life in Texas breakfast before school, lunches packed for the day, family dinners, neighborhood gatherings, and community traditions.

"Give Back to School" extends that relationship beyond the table. By inviting Texans to nominate schools and students who deserve recognition, Oak Farms is giving communities an opportunity to share their stories while directing meaningful support toward the people and places making a difference. "Our roots are not simply about where Oak Farms began. They are about the communities we have grown alongside," said Murphy. "When we say, 'Through It All, Our Roots Remain,' we mean continuing to show up for Texas. Giving back to schools and students is one way we can put that commitment into action."

The initiative reflects a simple belief at the heart of Oak Farms: when a community supports you for generations, you support that community in return.

As school years begin, students grow and Texas communities continue to evolve, Oak Farms remains committed to being there for the families who have made the brand part of their lives.

Through It All, Our Roots Remain.

Cytrellis Announces Partnership for Commercialization of ellacor® Micro-Coring® Technology in South Korea

Entry Into Booming South Korean Aesthetic Market Is Key Strategic Growth Milestone

WOBURN, Mass., Sept. 29, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Cytrellis Biosystems, Inc. a medical aesthetics company bridging the gap in skin health and restoration, today announced that it has entered into an agreement with KoreAx Co. Ltd. to commercialize ellacor® in South Korea. Approved by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in 2025, ellacor is the first and only FDA-cleared, minimally invasive, in-office procedure that removes sagging skin without surgery or thermal energy, offering Korean patients a new option for addressing skin laxity wherever it occurs.

Korea is one of the fastest-growing and most influential markets worldwide for aesthetic treatments, with strong demand for minimally invasive procedures. The South Korean medical aesthetics market was estimated at $572 million in 2023 and is projected to reach $1.1 billion by 2029, driven in part by non-surgical treatments that provide noticeable results with minimal downtime, according to independent market research.1

"Our commercial launch in South Korea—one of the world's most advanced and high-volume aesthetic markets— is a powerful stamp of approval for the unique value of ellacor's Micro-Coring technology," said Dr. Denise Dajles, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cytrellis. "In a market where patients and providers relentlessly pursue the most effective, innovative, and safest treatments, our technology offers a truly differentiated solution for removing skin without a scalpel or heat. This is not just an approval; it is a validation of the global consumer desire for next-generation procedures."

The launch in Korea will be executed in partnership with KoreAx, which brings deep expertise in the aesthetics sector and an extensive network of key opinion leaders and clinics. This collaboration will ensure effective training, education, and market penetration aligned with local needs.

"The Korean commercial launch of ellacor is a timely step in line with the rising domestic demand for non-invasive aesthetic technologies," said Dr. Chang-Keun Oh, President of the Association of Korean Dermatologist. "Already adopted in several countries including the United States, with extended indications for not just the face but also areas like the neck, abdomen, and knee, ellacor's potential for expanded indications and clinical use in Korea is drawing attention"

The Korean commercial launch marks the second major international market expansion for the company in 2026, following its earlier launch in Australia. Together, these markets expand the company's global footprint and support continued procedure volume and revenue growth.

Caracal Launches Baltimore Hub for Health Care Recycling Services

Caracal Launches Baltimore Hub for Health Care Recycling Services

BALTIMORE, Sept. 29, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Caracal Products & Services, a leader in the health care solutions and recycling services space, is pleased to announce the launch of a new Baltimore location to serve the PPE and medical recycling needs of health care centers in and around Baltimore.

"Every day, medical facilities discard mountains of recyclable material, but Caracal is changing that, one partner at a time," said Paul Sessions, VP and General Manager of Recycling at Caracal. "Health care generates enormous waste, and the organizations bold enough to confront that reality deserve a partner built for the challenge, and Caracal is ready to turn their sustainability commitments into measurable results."

Caracal's innovative health care recycling programs empower hospitals and health systems to achieve their sustainability goals while driving measurable operational value. By capturing and recycling commonly discarded materials like polypropylene and polyethylene, the program helps hospitals and health systems reduce waste, lower disposal costs and divert materials from landfills, enabling it to be transformed into new, healthcare-grade products.

Located in an industrial complex at 2-6 Alco Place, Caracal's new 9,000-square-foot warehouse space will serve as a hub for its health care recycling operations in the Baltimore area. The facility will support an innovative recycling program that Caracal has launched in partnership with Johns Hopkins Health System. The location will house industrial balers to compress recyclable materials onsite and form them into bales. The bales are then shipped to recyclers, where the polypropylene is shredded, melted down, and formed into plastic pellets, which are then molded into new products.

In addition, the warehouse will contain around 100 pallet positions and racks for storing inventory and an office space for administrative work. The site will be staffed by a warehouse manager to supervise operations and employees to carry out the recycling and logistics operations.

Caracal's Baltimore location joins its recycling and product distribution facilities in New York and Charlotte, North Carolina. As the demand for sustainability in health care rises, Caracal plans to expand into additional locations along the East Coast. The company supports several health care systems and hospitals that have set ambitious goals to recycle 100% of their disposable materials, such as plastic bags, cardboard, shrink wrap, and other items that previously had been destined for landfills.

About Caracal Products & Services: Founded in Detroit, Michigan, in 2004, Caracal is a U.S. based company with a focus on creating jobs and value in the healthcare industry through pioneering products and innovative services. As a sourcing solutions provider, Caracal offers a wide range of high-quality products and value-added services to businesses, government agencies, and educational institutions of all sizes. Caracal has cultivated strong, established partnerships in the healthcare, insurance, and financial services industries. Former healthcare investment banker to lead sponsor and industry partnerships; available for meetings at CAP26 in Las Vegas, Oct. 3–6

SHREVEPORT, La., Sept. 29, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Pathology Ventures, LLC (PVL), a physician-founded network representing more than 500 pathologists, has named Dominic Stockey executive vice president. Stockey will lead PVL's partnerships with pharmaceutical, diagnostic and research sponsors as the company expands its biomarker standards and industry programs across pathology practices.

Stockey oversees business operations, strategic partnerships and enterprise development, including sponsor and partner relationships, commercialization and contracting, and program execution. He joins PVL after seven years in investment banking, where he was a Vice President and worked on more than 15 closed transactions across diagnostics, life sciences and healthcare, including mergers and acquisitions, capital formation and industry partnerships.

"Pathologists are central to getting patients the right biomarker testing, and gaps in that testing have real consequences for treatment," said Sam Caughron, MD, President. "Our physicians have done the clinical work of defining what good testing looks like. Dominic brings the business leadership to turn that work into programs industry partners can invest in, while making sure our member practices stay independent."

PVL gives pathology practices a way to collaborate on biomarker programs and industry projects without giving up ownership of their groups. The company was founded in 2025 by Samuel K. Caughron, MD, Eric F. Glassy, MD, and Vivek K. Khare, MD.

"Pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies want to work with pathology practices, but they need a partner that can bring those practices together around consistent standards and deliver programs at scale," said Stockey. "PVL's physicians have built that foundation. My job is to build partnerships around it that work for sponsors, for our member practices and, ultimately, for patients."

Stockey and PVL leadership will attend CAP26, the College of American Pathologists annual meeting, at the Wynn Las Vegas, Oct. 3–6. To schedule a meeting, contact Dominic at [email protected].

ISO Adds Class L for Lithium-ion Fires as NYC Sets 1 kWh ESS Threshold, Allstate Sprinkler Study Finds

A new international fire classification for lithium-ion batteries arrives as New York City enforces one of the strictest energy-storage thresholds in the country and FDNY logs hundreds of battery fires a year.

THE BRONX, N.Y., Sept. 29, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Allstate Sprinkler, a fire protection contractor located in the Bronx that services NYC and the wider area since 1972, recently released an analysis connecting the International Organization for Standardization's (ISO) new Class L fire classification to NYC's treatment of lithium-ion energy storage. Drawing from data outlined in the ISO published standard and New York City Department of Buildings' building code, as well as incident reports from the FDNY, the report concludes that a global classification change is landing in a city that had already decided, through its own code, that lithium-ion batteries deserve specialized treatment from other combustible materials.

A New Fire Class, Seven Years in the Making

ISO published the third revision of ISO 3941 on January 21, 2026. The new revision removes the 2007 second addition, and adds the Class L specification for lithium-ion cell and battery fires wherein no metallic lithium is contained. ISO lists the lithium-ion classification as a major technical change in the third edition, and specifies it in the standard guidance itself, which also cites the factors that necessitate it: a higher energy density than conventional combustibles, rapid fire growth, venting of hot and combustible gases, cascading thermal runaway between cells, projectile expulsion of burning materials, stranded electrical energy remaining after a fire appears to be under control, and the potential for re-ignition thereof.

Class L is not the same as Class D, the class used for combustible metal fires, such as that involving lithium-metal batteries. This distinction is crucial for anyone who writes or reads a fire-safety plan: lithium-ion, the chemistry powering phones, laptops, e-bikes, and most large stationary storage, now has its own, separate designation as distinct from the metal-fire class.

ISO 3941 is a standard of conduct, not a provision of New York City code. By itself, it will not change the NYC Construction Codes, fire code or FDNY's own rule set. It means that New York City regulations have officially formalized a hazard profile that New York City regulators have been codifying well in advance of the January 2026 date.

New York City Regulatory Thresholds for Lithium-ion Storage

The regulatory approach is reflected in local building codes. Under NYC's amended NFPA 855 framework, the threshold quantity triggering regulatory obligations for lithium-ion energy storage systems (ESS) is just 1 kWh. By comparison, lead-acid battery storage systems get a threshold of 70 kWh under the same NYC Construction Code framework before matching regulatory requirements kick in.

This seventy-fold variance was established in city law prior to the ISO revision, subjecting lithium-ion storage to regulatory review at lower capacities than other common battery chemistries. Any indoor system above that designated threshold will require design approval, equipment listing, large fire testing, and most notably, approval from FDNY-requirements not automatically levied upon a lead-acid storage system of the same size, but only once it becomes considerably larger.

What FDNY Incident Data Analysis Reveals

This caution within regulation aligns with patterns FDNY has been observing over the past several years on the ground. In 2024, the department reported 277 lithium-ion battery fires across the city compared to the already high figure of 268 fires registered in 2023. While both those figures represented increased activity from previous years, deaths linked to lithium-ion battery fires plummeted significantly from 2023, where 18 people were recorded as having died compared to 2024 when there were six fatalities, representing a 66% drop in mortality.

The pattern continued into 2025. By 12 June 2025, the department had already noted 110 fires and 25 injured residents due to incidents involving lithium-ion batteries, but the analysis FDNY conducted suggests that nearly 60% of the lithium-ion battery fires reviewed during 2023 occurred while the batteries were not being charged, countering a common belief that charging times are the primary window for danger. Multiple factors such as charging circumstances, storage types, battery age and condition, equipment certification, and physical damage all affect this risk, irrespective of whether a unit is currently plugged into the wall.

The hazard continues to persist throughout 2026. FDNY reported in late June that charging a lithium-ion battery caused the city's first lithium-ion fire related death of the year in Queens. The analysis treats this data point not as evidence of the start of a new trend, but as a single data point within a sustained multi-year risk landscape.

A Separate Move on Charging Equipment

New York state has also undertaken its own legislative measure against this hazard from a slightly different approach. New Department of State Division of Consumer Protection regulations, effective from 5 January 2026, require all charging cords sold for any covered micromobility device, limited use motorcycles, and electric assisted bicycles be sold with a warning tag in both English and Spanish. Though it is merely a labeling law and not a fire suppression requirement, it signals the same concern FDNY exhibits through its building codes.

What the Classification and Warning Mean for Building Owners

Altogether, the ISO's new Class L classification, the 1 kWh ESS rule implemented in New York City, coupled with two years of FDNY incident reports clearly indicated the same thing: Lithium-ion batteries need their own unique risk assessment and cannot simply be treated as ordinary combustibles with inherent fire protection for all scenarios or by any default installation.

This does not mean that all buildings must immediately overhaul their fire protection systems (although FDNY's rules may lead to that for owners who do not comply), and the analysis is careful to state that existing sprinklers may or may not be capable of controlling a lithium-ion fire scenario, depending on the battery type, quantity, placement, and system design. It also does not mean that a routine NFPA 25 inspection (which ensures a system operates and is well-maintained to its design specification) into an assessment of the hazards of lithium-ion devices. NFPA 25 inspections look at whether a sprinkler system is functioning according to design and maintainability; they do not assess battery chemistry, charging behavior, storage configuration, or whether any installed system crosses NYC's new threshold.

Allstate Sprinkler, a Bronx-based fire protection contractor founded in 1972, provides fire suppression inspection, testing, and installation services. For building owners considering the integration or ongoing operation of lithium-ion storage or charging equipment in an existing system, Allstate Sprinkler recommends starting with a clear, documented assessment rather than assumption; FDNY approval and UL testing are generally required, unless specific regulatory exemptions apply.

Methodology

Allstate Sprinkler collated open-source information from the following sources; ISO3941:2026. New York City Department of Buildings' revised NFPA 855 requirements. New York State Department of State charging-cord label requirements and FDNY lithium-ion battery incident/safety publications. No proprietary Allstate Sprinkler incident data was used. The analysis compares definitions, threshold storage quantities, and incident counts across the defined periods, framing the findings against both the internationally recognized standard and New York regulatory code requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a class L fire according to ISO 3941:2026?

Class L fire is defined for incidents involving lithium-ion cells and batteries without lithium-metal being present. It is separate from the combustible metals classification for which lithium-metal batteries fall under class D. ISO describes Class L as an electrochemical fire classification that involves risks associated with the electrochemical process itself and not solely those risks inherent in combustible materials.

Does the new Class L designation automatically change NYC fire code requirements?

No, the ISO 3941:2026 standard is a voluntary international specification/classification scheme. The real fire protection obligations for NYC fire codes come from, among other sources, New York City Construction Codes, Fire Code, Department of Buildings regulations, FDNY rules including FDNY's framework for NFPA 855.

What is the impact of NYC's 1kWh lithium-ion ESS threshold for building owners?

NYC has a lithium-ion energy storage system 1 kWh threshold above which energy storage is to be governed by the city's modified NFPA 855, which can require a design review, listing under UL 9540 and potentially under UL 9540A large-scale fire testing, FDNY Certificate of Approval unless exempted.

Are Lithium-ion battery fires only a hazard during charging?

A FDNY review of incidents occurring in NYC during 2023 revealed that almost 60% of the lithium-ion battery fires studied were not under charging operation. Storage configurations, battery age, equipment certification and damage are all significant safety factors that must be evaluated, whether a battery is charging or not.

Are NFPA 25 sprinkler inspections the same as a lithium-ion battery fire risk assessment?

No, the NFPA 25 standard is a regulation on existing water-based fire suppression systems; it requires maintenance of existing fire protection/suppression systems.
