Continuous Glucose Monitors Help Type 2 Diabetes Patients Spend Five More Hours a Day in Healthy Blood Sugar Range

A new large scale clinical trial provides the strongest evidence yet that CGMs can significantly improve blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes not using insulin

AURORA, Colo., Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) could transform diabetes management for millions of Americans with type 2 diabetes who don't take insulin, according to findings from new research published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The clinical trial found that adults using CGMs spent approximately five additional hours each day within their target blood sugar range compared with those receiving routine care. Nearly twice as many CGM users also achieved an A1c level below 7%, a common treatment goal for people with diabetes.

CGMs use a small sensor worn on the body to continuously track glucose levels throughout the day and night. This allows patients to see how their blood sugar responds to food, physical activity and other daily habits, potentially helping them make more informed decisions about managing their diabetes.

"An estimated 20 million adults in the United States have type 2 diabetes and do not take insulin, and despite advances in treatment, many still still do not reach glycemic targets," said first author Tamara Oser, MD, professor in the University of Colorado Anschutz Department of Family Medicine. "Over time, elevated blood sugar can increase the risk of serious health complications, including heart disease, kidney disease and vision loss, so it's important we continue to improve care for everyone with diabetes."

Tamara and her co-authors also found another significant finding: CGM users experienced significantly greater improvements in A1c, a measure of average blood sugar over approximately three months. The difference between the groups was 0.9 percentage points, greatly exceeding the threshold generally considered clinically meaningful.

Largest clinical trial of its kind

The study included 283 adults across 22 U.S. primary care practices who were followed for 26 weeks. It's the first large-scale, multicenter randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of CGM in adults with type 2 diabetes who do not take insulin.

Unlike smaller previous studies, this trial exclusively enrolled patients receiving diabetes care through primary care practices, where most Americans with type 2 diabetes are treated. This approach makes the findings particularly relevant to everyday clinical care.

Reshaping treatment recommendations

The findings provide some of the strongest evidence yet for this population, which has historically been underresearched.

Currently, the American Diabetes Association's Standards of Care cite Level A evidence, the highest rating supported by rigorous clinical research, for CGM use in patients receiving insulin. However, recommendations for people with diabetes who don't take insulin are supported by Level C evidence, reflecting more limited research.

The researchers hope these new findings could help close that gap by providing robust clinical evidence that CGMs improve blood sugar in this population.

"We hope this research will help strengthen national diabetes care guidelines and expand insurance coverage, making this technology more accessible to the millions of patients who could benefit from it," said Oser, who is also founder and director of the Primary Care Diabetes Lab at CU Anschutz.

For now, the authors suggest people with type 2 diabetes who don't take insulin should discuss the use of GCMs with their primary care providers as part of their diabetes management.

President and CEO Thayne Shaffer to retire on March 1, 2027, after 38 years of service.

RIVERDALE, Utah, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The America First Credit Union Board of Directors announced today that Missy Key has been selected to be the credit union's next President and Chief Executive Officer, effective March 1, 2027. She will succeed Thayne Shaffer, who plans to retire after 38 years of dedicated service to America First's members and employees.

"Missy is a strong, insightful and decisive executive who leads with vision and compassion," said Linda Carver, Chair of America First's Board of Directors. "Her 38 years of service at America First have prepared her well for this moment, and our members, employees and community partners are in good hands."

Key's appointment follows a milestone year for America First, including mergers with Meadows Bank and Greater Nevada Credit Union and growing to nearly 1.7 million members.

"America First has tremendous momentum, and Missy will carry forward that legacy of service and success," Shaffer said. "It has been an honor to work with her and so many other talented people at America First."

Shaffer became President and CEO in 2021. During his almost six-year tenure, America First achieved record asset and membership growth, weathered a pandemic and recession, completed three mergers and acquisitions, and launched a new digital banking system.

"Thayne's achievements as CEO speak for themselves, but his impact extends far beyond numbers," Carver said. "He has led with humility, transparency and an unwavering member-first focus. We are grateful for his remarkable service and wish him all the best in retirement."

Key will become the sixth President and CEO in America First's history.

"I am honored and excited by this opportunity," Key said. "I am grateful to have worked with Thayne for many years and appreciate the exemplary leadership he provided. I look forward to working with our Board and talented teams to continue building on our foundational values of serving members and strengthening the communities we serve."

Key's 38 years of service at America First include progressive leadership roles in accounting and finance, most recently serving as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Throughout her tenure, she has developed a deep understanding of America First's operations, its members and the communities it serves. As CFO, she has played an integral role in strengthening America First's financial position and working alongside the executive leadership team to shape and advance the credit union's strategic direction.

World's Largest Flying Digital Screen Makes NYC Debut with Two Flights and New Byron Allen Media Partnership
Image File

HELI-D flew over the Hudson River near Chelsea Piers and the Statue of Liberty during the DPAA Global Video Everywhere Summit, followed by an evening flight showcasing Byron Allen's media content

NEW YORK, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- HELI-D, the company behind the world's largest flying digital screen, made its New York City debut on October 13 with two flights introducing a new form of aerial digital advertising to one of the world's largest media markets. The debut featured an afternoon flight in partnership with the Digital Place Based Advertising Association (DPAA) during its annual Global Video Everywhere Summit, followed by an evening flight showcasing content from media mogul Byron Allen's Allen Media Group as part of a newly secured partnership.

The afternoon flight took place between 1:00 PM and 1:45 PM ET, coinciding with the Summit's lunch break. Launching from Newport Helistop in New Jersey, HELI-D flew along the Hudson River toward Chelsea Piers, where Summit attendees and New Yorkers had an opportunity to see the massive digital screen in action. The aircraft then headed south toward the Statue of Liberty, bringing the display to one of the city's most recognizable landmarks.

HELI-D returned to the skies later that evening for a second flight featuring content from Byron Allen's Allen Media Group. The new agreement marks a significant step in HELI-D's entry into the U.S. advertising market, bringing together its aerial digital display technology and one of the country's prominent media entrepreneurs.

Unlike traditional billboards fixed to buildings or roadside structures, HELI-D's technology takes digital out-of-home advertising into the sky, creating a mobile, large-scale display capable of bringing brand messages directly to high-visibility locations, major events and large audiences.

"New York City is one of the most important advertising markets in the world, and there's no better place to demonstrate what's possible when digital advertising takes to the skies," said Simon Powell, Co-Founder and CEO of HELI-D. "Launching with DPAA and The Ad Council, and now working with Byron Allen and his media company, makes this an incredibly exciting debut for us. These partnerships demonstrate the potential of our technology to bring major brands and media content to audiences in an entirely new way."

The New York debut coincided with the DPAA Global Video Everywhere Summit, which brought together leaders from across the advertising, media and digital out-of-home industries. As a new media partner of DPAA and The Ad Council, HELI-D featured content from both organizations during the afternoon flight, demonstrating how its aerial display can be used for commercial advertising, public awareness campaigns and large-scale brand activations.

With two flights marking its New York City debut and new partnerships spanning the advertising and media industries, HELI-D is positioning its technology as a new addition to the digital out-of-home advertising landscape, offering brands the ability to deliver dynamic content above some of the world's most recognizable destinations and major events.

APPLOVIN CORPORATION CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT - COMPLAINT ALLEGATION SUMMARY:

The complaint alleges that, throughout the Class Period, Defendants made materially false and/or misleading statements, as well as failed to disclose material facts about the company's business, operations, and prospects. Specifically, Defendants misrepresented and/or failed to disclose that: (1) the generative AI video creative feature for the company's AppLovin Ads platform was subject to significant development delays, making its release on AppLovin's timeline unlikely; (2) AppLovin overstated the rate of its improvements to its AI models, in turn causing the benefits and reliability of its value proposition of its AI models to be unreliable; and (3) as a result of the foregoing, Defendants' statements about the company's business, operations, and prospects were materially false and misleading and/or lacked a reasonable basis at all relevant times.

Why did AppLovin's Stock Drop?

On July 13, 2026, a Bank of America Securities analyst published a note stating that "AppLovin's eCommerce footprint expanded at a slower pace in June" and "[w]eekly data has not shown a clear uptick since AppLovin [Ads] opened to all eComm advertisers on 6/22, suggesting a muted GA start." Accordingly, Bank of America Securities lowered its estimate for AppLovin's annual revenue.  On this news, AppLovin's stock price dropped $64.13 per share, or 12.6%, from a closing price of $506.80 per share on July 10, 2026, to close at $442.85 per share on July 13, 2026.

Then, on August 5, 2026, AppLovin reported its financial results for the quarter and revealed, among other things, revenue below consensus estimates. AppLovin attributed the poor results, in part, to delays in the roll out of AppLovin Ads' generative AI video creation tool, which led to lower-than-expected AppLovin Ads revenue and hampered AppLovin's AI "model performance[.]" On this news, AppLovin's stock price dropped $82.13 per share, or 19.6%, from a closing price of $417.80 per share on August 5, 2026, to close at $335.67 per share on August 6, 2026.

WHAT APPLOVIN CORPORATION INVESTORS CAN DO NOW:

- File to be lead plaintiff by November 16, 2026.

- Contact KTMC for a free case evaluation. All representation is on a contingency fee basis, there is no cost to you.

- Retain counsel of choice or take no action.

THE LEAD PLAINTIFF PROCESS FOR APPLOVIN CORPORATION INVESTORS:

AppLovin investors may, no later than November 16, 2026, seek to be appointed as a lead plaintiff representative of the class through Kessler Topaz Meltzer & Check, LLP or other counsel, or may choose to do nothing and remain an absent class member. A lead plaintiff is a representative party who acts on behalf of all class members in directing the litigation.  The lead plaintiff is usually the investor or small group of investors who have the largest financial interest and who are also adequate and typical of the proposed class of investors. The lead plaintiff selects counsel to represent the lead plaintiff and the class and these attorneys, if approved by the court, are lead or class counsel. Your ability to share in any recovery is not affected by the decision of whether or not to serve as a lead plaintiff.

Lockheed Martin Expands Advanced Munitions Manufacturing in Texas, Driving Thousands of New American Jobs

New Hadrian partnership bringing world-class, commercial-style manufacturing technology to accelerate production of critical munitions

DALLAS, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) today announced plans to create 6,000 jobs across the United States including 2,000 in Texas, as the company expands advanced manufacturing capacity to accelerate production of critical munitions.

At the center of that growth is Lockheed Martin's Grand Prairie operation, where the company is investing $300 million and expanding its manufacturing footprint to more than 735,000 square feet. The expansion includes 100,000 square feet of new space and 85,000 square feet of office space being transformed for advanced manufacturing, creating additional capacity for automation, digital manufacturing and high-precision machining.

The company also announced today that Hadrian will bring an innovative, highly automated machining cell to the Grand Prairie facility, operated by the world-class Lockheed Martin production workforce. Expected to be operational in early 2027, the 24-machine cell will bring commercial-style manufacturing technology directly into Lockheed Martin's production environment and add dedicated capacity for critical defense components.

THE BIG PICTURE

Lockheed Martin is building a manufacturing model designed for speed, scale and sustained production, bringing together the best of defense and commercial manufacturing to build a more resilient, automated and digitally integrated production model designed to deliver critical capabilities faster. The new Hadrian cell is the latest example of that strategy. It follows Lockheed Martin's recently announced collaboration with GM Defense to apply commercial automotive manufacturing expertise to defense production.

EXPERT PERSPECTIVE

"This expansion is more than just a new facility; it is a stronger supply chain and a more resilient industrial base," said Michael P. Duffey, Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment. "Today in Grand Prairie, American industry is answering the call to support our warfighters."

"Lockheed Martin has brought together commercial speed and combat-proven performance because America needs both," said Jim Taiclet, chairman, president and CEO of Lockheed Martin. "By combining advanced technology with the expertise of our American workforce, we're transforming manufacturing to deliver critical munitions at speed and scale."

"The warfighter can't wait on peacetime timelines. Hadrian is bringing the automation, software and workforce training from our own factories directly inside Lockheed Martin, so we can produce more, faster. Rebuilding the Arsenal of Freedom at the scale America needs will take partnerships that combine expertise and speed, and this is what that looks like," said Chris Power, CEO of Hadrian.

WHY IT MATTERS

- Delivering critical munitions: Lockheed Martin's Grand Prairie facility supports all Missiles and Fire Control programs, including PAC-3 MSE, THAAD, PrSM and JATM. The expansion and partnership announced today will help Grand Prairie reach record production levels and deliver components to final-assembly sites including Camden, Arkansas, and Troy, Alabama.

- Investing ahead of demand: The $300 million investment in this expansion is part of the company's broader commitment to invest $8–9 billion through 2030 to scale munitions production and modernize or expand more than 20 facilities across the United States.

- Building a manufacturing model that can scale: Lockheed Martin is combining a highly skilled workforce with automation, digital manufacturing, precision machining and commercial manufacturing practices to increase capacity and strengthen the defense industrial base.

- Creating greater predictability: Working with Department of War leadership, Lockheed Martin is applying commercially inspired contracting approaches through landmark agreements for PAC-3 MSE, THAAD, PrSM and JATM. These agreements provide greater predictability to invest in people, equipment and supply chains while accelerating production and delivery.

ADDITIONAL CONTEXT

- The Grand Prairie facility is already home to hundreds of critical machining and advanced manufacturing assets, and Lockheed Martin is rapidly adding even more capacity. In just a few months, the company has transformed former office space into advanced manufacturing areas and installed more than 30 additional high-precision machines now producing thousands of critical components each week.

- By the end of 2026, Lockheed Martin expects to have added nearly 100 new advanced machines across the facility.

- Nearly 800 production employees currently work at the facility which manufactured 250,000 parts in 2025.

- Today's announcement with Hadrian follows the signing of a seven-year agreement signed by both companies in 2025.

The event will bring together correctional and healthcare leaders to examine the Mississippi Department of Corrections' success in suicide reduction and lessons for correctional systems nationwide

JACKSON, Miss., Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Correctional Association (ACA) today announced Insights for Impact, the first national summit coming to Mississippi in early 2027 to examine the Mississippi Department of Corrections' (MDOC) progress in reducing suicide and to explore how lessons from that experience can inform suicide prevention efforts across correctional systems nationwide.

The summit will bring together correctional and healthcare leaders, behavioral health experts, and community partners for a national dialogue on suicide prevention in corrections. Through data-driven discussions and firsthand perspectives, participants will examine the strategies, practices, implementation approaches, and systems-level changes that can help correctional system identify opportunities for meaningful and sustainable progress.

"Since 2021, the Mississippi Department of Corrections has made measurable progress in reducing suicide within its correctional system, with 11 deaths in 2021 compared to only 2 deaths so far in this 2026 calendar year—an 82% reduction," said Robert Green, executive director of the American Correctional Association. "These numbers reflect the impact of sustained attention, system-level strategies, stronger behavioral health efforts, and a commitment to identifying and addressing the factors that contribute to suicide in correctional environments. Insights for Impact will give correctional and healthcare leaders an opportunity to examine that data, understand what contributed to this progress, and consider how those lessons may inform suicide prevention efforts in systems across the country."

Insights for Impact will feature new findings and outcome data from Mississippi, giving participants an opportunity to examine the progress made by the MDOC and the factors behind it. The summit will explore the role of behavioral healthcare, screening and assessment, crisis intervention, data and analytics, staff training, community partnerships, continuity of care, and other components of a comprehensive approach to suicide prevention in correctional settings.

The conversation will extend beyond identifying promising practices to examine what it takes to put them into action. Sessions will address leadership and culture change, staff engagement, suicide prevention protocols, clinical treatment pathways, and other strategies that can strengthen prevention efforts and improve outcomes. By bringing together leaders and practitioners from across the country, the summit will create a forum for examining not only what has changed in Mississippi, but how correctional systems can translate lessons learned into sustainable practices within their own facilities.

The MDOC, in partnership with its statewide healthcare provider VitalCore, has implemented a range of initiatives to strengthen behavioral healthcare and suicide prevention throughout Mississippi's correctional facilities. As part of that effort, MDOC and VitalCore brought in certified trainers from the ACA to provide Correctional Behavioral Health Certificaion (CBHC) training, equipping correctional and behavioral health staff with essential skills for identifying, managing, and responding to mental health needs.

"You can't let people kill themselves, and VitalCore really improved our behavioral health programs to a point where people can learn to control their emotions and be a stable person," said MDOC Commissioner Burl Cain. "In doing so, we're reducing suicide, we're reducing stress in the prisons, and we're making the prisons safer. We've created an environment for change."

Insights for Impact will conclude with a national discussion on the future of correctional suicide prevention, emphasizing continued collaboration among correctional leadership, healthcare professionals, facility staff, and the ACA to strengthen practices and protect the health and safety of individuals in custody.

"I've looked back on my time in Mississippi, and the most important thing of all was Governor Tate Reeves because he brought me here," said Cain. "He wanted to see his prison system change for the better because he got elected to benefit Mississippi. He's brought massive industry to Mississippi, but he also brought peace and harmony to his prisons."

A pre-summit presentation of the work will be held during the ACA Winter Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, January 7–10, 2027. Additional information regarding the date, location, speakers, and registration for the Insights for Impact Summit will be announced at a later date.

From Silicon Valley to Skincare: HI-TECH Beauty Labs Announces U.S. Patent for B3 Technology®

Pioneer of The Healthy Skin Movement™ to present its patented technology platform and $5 million SEED capital opportunity at the Global Capital Network Investor Conference on October 15, 2026.

DALLAS and FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Hi-TECH Beauty Labs, Corp. (HTBL) announced the issuance of U.S. Patent No. 12,642,834 B2 for B3 Technology®, a 100% natural botanical innovation designed to address problem skin without benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, adapalene or retinol.

Built at the intersection of Silicon Valley high technology, skin cell science, and botanicals, HTBL is advancing skincare innovation through its brand SkinKick® and a proprietary technology platform.

HTBL will present its commercialization strategy and capital opportunity at the Global Capital Network Investor Conference on October 15, 2026, in Newport Beach, California.

From Silicon Valley to Skincare

Founded by Matthew J. Schirle, a former international semiconductor executive and Chemical Engineer, HTBL applies engineering principles and root-cause analysis to skincare challenges. Chief Science Officer, Dr. D. William Provance, PhD, is the inventor of HTBL's technologies, including B3 Technology®.

Their exclusive SkinViNO™ Process Innovation — Vitamins, Nutrients and Omegas — guides ingredient selection through a focus on skin-cell biology.

SkinKick® brings this approach to consumers with its CLEAR + RENEW + PROTECT philosophy for skin and barrier care.

B3 Technology® — A Patented Botanical Platform

Issued June 2, 2026, U.S. Patent No. 12,642,834 B2 protects B3 Technology®, incorporating Black Willow Bark (Salix nigra), Cat's Claw (Uncaria tomentosa) and Dragon's Blood (Croton lechleri).

The HTBL technology platform supports alternatives to harsh acid-based formulations for problem skin and aging skin enabling potential licensing opportunities with established beauty companies.

Pioneering The Healthy Skin Movement™

"We didn't enter the beauty industry to create another harsh acid-based skincare brand. We entered to challenge conventional thinking and deliver outrageously effective and natural products" said Schirle. "We treat your skin like a garden and not a test ground for a chemical factory".

"My semiconductor background taught me to identify root causes, challenge assumptions and develop better solutions. Dr. Provance's inventions bring that vision to life.

"We recognized and leveraged the fact that the architecture of a semiconductor memory cell is nearly identical to that of a human skin pore which led to the 2-Step Acne Model Innovation.

"This first patent is an important milestone, but our vision is bigger: pioneering The Healthy Skin Movement™ and challenging the belief that "pain is gain" in skincare.

"Our mission is to Replace Pain with Performance™ and deliver Self-Esteem in a Bottle™."

Technology, Commercialization and Growth

HTBL plans to scale SkinKick® while licensing proprietary technologies to beauty and personal-care companies.

The company is pursuing a $5 million SEED Round to accelerate digital commerce, distribution and technology commercialization.

Schirle will present HTBL's investment opportunity on October 15, 2026, at the Renaissance Newport Beach Hotel.

The Global Capital Network conference connects emerging companies with investors and capital providers.
