TEAMSTERS PILOTS AT HORIZON AIR HOLD INFORMATIONAL PICKETS

Pilots in Seattle and Boise Demand Fair Contract After Years of Stalled Negotiations

SEATTLE, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Nearly 650 pilots at Horizon Air, represented by Teamsters Local 1224, held an informational picket today in Seattle and Boise, calling on the airline to end years of delay tactics and agree to a fair contract that provides industry-standard compensation.

Teamsters pilots at Horizon have been negotiating for nearly four years for an agreement that addresses critical issues including wages, staffing and training shortages, and operational concerns that continue to impact both employees and the airline's future.

As a subsidiary of Alaska Air Group, Horizon pilots perform nearly the same amount of flying as their counterparts at Alaska Airlines. Despite those responsibilities, Horizon pilots' pay continues to fall behind industry standards due to the company's refusal to negotiate a fair agreement.

"Our pilots are the backbone of Horizon's operation," said Henry Simkins, Chair of Local 1224's Horizon Executive Council. "They continue to deliver safe and reliable service every day while management drags its feet on a contract that reflects their contribution and value. The same mismanagement has created operational challenges throughout the airline, and that dysfunction has become impossible to ignore in bargaining. Our members deserve better and they're tired of being told to wait."

In addition to the informational picket, Horizon pilots will conduct a vote of no confidence in Carlos Zendejas, Senior Vice President of Operations at Horizon.

Pilots at Horizon say chronic staffing shortages, inconsistent application of company policies and procedures, and a growing reliance on pilots to compensate for operational shortcomings are reasons for the vote. These issues have persisted throughout contract negotiations and have contributed to a significant erosion of trust in company leadership.

"Every day, Horizon pilots are expected to do more with less," said Jason Welch, a Horizon pilot and member of Local 1224. "We've watched these challenges persist for years, yet management refuses to address the issues that matter most to us. Enough is enough — it's time for the company to start delivering real solutions."

Teamsters Local 1224 represents aviation professionals throughout the United States, including flight crewmembers at ABX Air, Cape Air, Horizon Air, Omni Air International, and Silver Airways. Visit apa1224.org for more information.

IBM Study: Eight in Ten EMEA Enterprises Escalate AI Incidents to Board or C-Suite as AI Agents Test Governance
Image File
Original HTML

- 80% of surveyed executives in EMEA say an AI-related incident reached their board or C-suite in the past year, with only 40% changing AI governance policy or frameworks in response.

- 75% of respondents expect AI agents to have some level of autonomy with respect to decisions by 2027, yet only 37% say their governance is designed to scale with agentic AI deployment.

- When surveyed organizations want to deploy AI faster than governance and compliance frameworks are prepared for, nearly 60 percent (56%) continue within agreed risk limits while governance adapts; a third (33%) delay deployment until governance is ready.

- Only 37% of respondents have a formal, board-reviewed quantification of the financial risks created by gaps in their AI governance.

LONDON, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- New research by IBM (NYSE: IBM) finds that AI-related incidents are reaching boardrooms across Europe and the Middle East among the organizations surveyed, but governance capabilities and risk accountability are not keeping pace with adoption of the technology.

Eight in ten executives surveyed say an AI-related incident – including an agent failure, data exposure, AI-driven decision error, or AI security breach – reached their board or C-suite in the past year. Yet fewer than half (40%) of those organizations cite a change to AI governance policy or framework in response.

When the pace of deploying AI outstrips governance and compliance frameworks readiness, rather than pause while governance adapts, the majority (56%) of executives surveyed report pressing ahead within agreed risk limits. Just a third delay deployment entirely until their governance is ready.

The survey, of more than 3,200 senior executives at organizations across eight countries in Europe and the Middle East, suggests governance policies will be tested further as AI agents take on more autonomous work. Thirty-five percent of respondents say they are running agentic AI in production today, yet three-quarters expect AI agents to have some level of autonomy towards decisions by 2027. Only 37% say their current governance system is designed to scale with agentic AI deployment.

Ana Paula Assis, IBM Senior Vice President and Chair, EMEA and APAC, said: "The AI debate has moved from adoption to governance and accountability. As organizations progress from AI assistants to autonomous agents, governance can no longer be treated as a compliance exercise. It has become a business requirement and value enabler.

The enterprises that can scale AI with accountability and trust will be postitioned to realize business value. That means governance must be built into how agents operate, with clear boundaries on what they can do, clear ownership when things go wrong, and controls that work in real-time."

Accountability & liability gap

Nearly all executives (98%) surveyed have formally assigned responsibility for AI risk at board level, including 26% with a dedicated board-level AI committee. Yet the research found no clear consensus on accountability for adverse outcomes from AI agents. An organization's CIO or CTO was the most frequently cited role with assigned responsibility for adverse outcomes from AI agents, selected by just 17% of all respondents.

Respondents' views on legal liability when an AI system causes significant harm were also divided: 20% say it should be shared proportionally between deployer and vendor, 19% say there should be a regulatory framework that does not yet adequately exist, and 14% say it should sit with the AI vendor or technology provider.

To manage increasingly autonomous AI agents making decisions without human approval at each step by 2027, executives expect to need formal legal or contractual frameworks defining AI vendor liability for agent failures (33%), defined human escalation thresholds (32%), real-time monitoring and audit trails of agent decisions and actions (30%) and the ability to immediately halt agent activity across the enterprise (29%).

Other key findings include:

- Measurement of financial risk exposure less established than board ownership: More than half (54%) of surveyed executives govern generative AI tools and agentic AI systems as distinct risk categories with separate governance frameworks and a further 38% apply the same core framework, but with additional controls to agentic AI. Measuring financial exposure from gaps in AI governance is less advanced: only 37% have a formal, board-reviewed quantification of the financial risk created by gaps in their AI governance.

- Supply chain risk: 54% of all respondents acknowledge gaps or limitations in how their governance framework covers the AI systems and models used by key vendors, technology partners and supply chain participants. Only 21% continuously monitor third-party AI risk and 13% apply independent assurance or certification requirements.

- Regulation shapes the pace regionally: In the EU, 41% of surveyed executives are accelerating governance investment ahead of the EU AI Act's high-risk obligations in December 2027, and a further 35% are on track with structured compliance plans. In the UK, sector regulator expectations are the most cited driver of AI governance investment (27%), while in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, national AI strategy requirements lead (61%).

Study methodology

The research was conducted by Censuswide on behalf of IBM among 3,221 executive management respondents, including C-level, at organizations with 1,000 or more employees in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The data was collected between 14 and 24 September 2026.

PurMinds Announces Clinical Validation Collaboration with SpectroChip and Taiwan's Kaohsiung Municipal Siaogang Hospital

Five-year collaboration framework aims to advance point-of-care diagnostics, clinical performance evaluation, and precision-medicine applications

LAS VEGAS and TORONTO, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- PurMinds Enterprises, Inc. (formerly Pacific Software, Inc.) (OTC: PFSF) ("PurMinds" or the "Company") today announced the signing of a collaboration agreement with SpectroChip Inc. ("SpectroChip"), a Taiwan-based developer of photonic-chip sensing and portable testing technologies, and Kaohsiung Municipal Siaogang Hospital ("Siaogang Hospital"), operated by Kaohsiung Medical University, to support teaching, research, and clinical validation of point-of-care (POC) diagnostic technologies and testing solutions.

The collaboration brings together SpectroChip's photonic chip-based portable testing technology, PurMinds' SwiftLabTM Platform and precision-medicine solutions, and Siaogang Hospital's clinical research capabilities. The parties intend to establish the joint "PurMinds / SpectroChip Global Clinical Validation Testing Center" for teaching, research, and clinical-validation activities, as a framework for evaluating diagnostic performance, assessing testing workflows, and advancing research into continuously improved POC performance, subject to review by an institutional review board (IRB), institutional approvals and applicable regulatory requirements.

Connecting diagnostic technology with clinical research

PurMinds' SwiftLabTM Platform is built around a full-spectrum laboratory-grade spectrometer shrunk onto a single, highly advanced photonic chip and housed inside the SpectroCision™ SPU-D100, a portable reader small enough to carry anywhere. The platform is designed to turn a low-cost lateral-flow cassette from a faint yes-or-no line into a lab-grade quantitative result in five minutes or less, in clinics, pharmacies, community health centers, and at the patient's bedside. Clinical research and performance evaluation are important steps in assessing how diagnostic technologies and testing solutions perform in intended-use settings.

Under the collaboration, the parties will contribute complementary capabilities:

- PurMinds will lead the precision-medicine applications, clinical research collaboration, and access to international research and industry resources in its overall global commercialization strategy.

- SpectroChip will provide its photonic chip-based testing technology, together with technical documentation, training, and related support.

- Siaogang Hospital will provide an institutional setting for approved teaching, research, and clinical-validation activities, including research design, performance evaluation, testing-workflow assessment, and talent development.

Specific research projects will be established through separate written arrangements defining their scope, responsibilities, timelines, funding, and deliverables. Activities involving human participants, specimens, personal data, or medical-device clinical studies will proceed in accordance with applicable ethical, regulatory, and institutional requirements. The designation does not represent the establishment of a separate legal entity or dedicated physical facility.

By connecting technology development with institutional research capabilities, the collaboration aims to create a foundation for evaluating diagnostic applications and supporting PurMinds' development and commercialization activities.

Research and education support

Under the collaboration framework, SpectroChip has committed to providing Siaogang Hospital with NT$3 million (about US$94,000) in teaching and research funding over five years, generally at NT$600,000 per year, subject to the applicable agreement and institutional procedures. The funding is intended to support approved educational and research activities, which may include research consumables, testing, equipment maintenance, data analysis, research personnel, training, and academic exchange. The collaboration framework preserves the hospital's independence in its professional, clinical, research, and procurement decisions.

"This collaboration brings together SpectroChip's cutting-edge photonic chip technology, Siaogang Hospital's clinical research environment and PurMinds' precision-medicine platform and commercialization strategy," said Janet Qi, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of PurMinds. "Given the full-spectrum spectrometry embedded in our platform and its potential to develop an extended catalog of testing items, our vision is to connect with clinically relevant testing applications and the research needed to evaluate them."

"For over two decades, our team has worked to miniaturize spectrometer technology and make quantitative analysis possible through our proprietary photonic chip technology. This collaboration with PurMinds and Siaogang Hospital represents an important opportunity to bring our technology into a structured clinical research environment, where diagnostic performance and testing workflows can be systematically evaluated," said Dr. Cheng-Hao (Kevin) Ko, founder of SpectroChip and inventor of the SwiftLab Platform.

"Collaboration between healthcare institutions, technology developers, and market integrators is important to the responsible evaluation of emerging diagnostic technologies. We look forward to supporting appropriate teaching and research activities, evaluating diagnostic performance under approved study protocols, and contributing clinical perspectives to the development of point-of-care testing. All research activities will be conducted in accordance with applicable ethical, institutional, and regulatory requirements," said Chih-Hsing Hung, MD, PhD, Dean of Kaohsiung Municipal Siaogang Hospital.

About PurMinds Enterprises, Inc.

PurMinds Enterprises, Inc. (OTC: PFSF) exists to close the gap between precise answers from a central laboratory, which arrive days after the patient has gone home, and fast answers from rapid tests, which offer a single faint "yes or no" line and nothing more. At the heart of its SwiftLab™ Platform is a full-spectrum, laboratory-grade spectrometer shrunk onto a photonic chip and housed inside the SpectroCision™ SPU-D100, a fully portable reader small enough to carry anywhere without the need for recalibration. The platform is designed to turn a low-cost lateral-flow cassette from a faint yes-or-no line into a quantitative result in five minutes or less. That capability stands on 17 peer-reviewed papers, 15 granted patents, and a trade-secret manufacturing process refined over 20 years.

One reader delivers every use case: comprehensive blood testing, veterinary diagnostics, roadside drug intoxication screening, specialized multiplex panels, and pathogen testing, all run on the same SpectroCision reader. Only the low-cost test cassette changes. Clinical uses are subject to regulatory clearance in each market. PurMinds holds an exclusive license to the SwiftLab Platform for the health and safety fields worldwide.

PurMinds began with a single ambition: to treat the brain. A company that means to treat the brain must be able to measure disease progression and therapeutic intervention, repeatedly, cheaply, and wherever the patient is, and that need brought PurMinds and SpectroChip together to build a quantitative point-of-care neurology panel. PurMinds holds its two drug candidates in a wholly owned subsidiary, PurQuest™ Therapeutics: PUR102, a botanical psilocybin, and PUR501, a preclinical non-hallucinogenic neuroplastogen.

The SpectroCision reader and PurMinds cassettes have not been cleared or approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration or licensed by Health Canada and are not available for clinical use in the United States or Canada.

Continuous Glucose Monitors Help Type 2 Diabetes Patients Spend Five More Hours a Day in Healthy Blood Sugar Range
Image File
Original HTML

A new large scale clinical trial provides the strongest evidence yet that CGMs can significantly improve blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes not using insulin

AURORA, Colo., Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) could transform diabetes management for millions of Americans with type 2 diabetes who don't take insulin, according to findings from new research published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The clinical trial found that adults using CGMs spent approximately five additional hours each day within their target blood sugar range compared with those receiving routine care. Nearly twice as many CGM users also achieved an A1c level below 7%, a common treatment goal for people with diabetes.

CGMs use a small sensor worn on the body to continuously track glucose levels throughout the day and night. This allows patients to see how their blood sugar responds to food, physical activity and other daily habits, potentially helping them make more informed decisions about managing their diabetes.

"An estimated 20 million adults in the United States have type 2 diabetes and do not take insulin, and despite advances in treatment, many still still do not reach glycemic targets," said first author Tamara Oser, MD, professor in the University of Colorado Anschutz Department of Family Medicine. "Over time, elevated blood sugar can increase the risk of serious health complications, including heart disease, kidney disease and vision loss, so it's important we continue to improve care for everyone with diabetes."

Tamara and her co-authors also found another significant finding: CGM users experienced significantly greater improvements in A1c, a measure of average blood sugar over approximately three months. The difference between the groups was 0.9 percentage points, greatly exceeding the threshold generally considered clinically meaningful.

Largest clinical trial of its kind

The study included 283 adults across 22 U.S. primary care practices who were followed for 26 weeks. It's the first large-scale, multicenter randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of CGM in adults with type 2 diabetes who do not take insulin.

Unlike smaller previous studies, this trial exclusively enrolled patients receiving diabetes care through primary care practices, where most Americans with type 2 diabetes are treated. This approach makes the findings particularly relevant to everyday clinical care.

Reshaping treatment recommendations

The findings provide some of the strongest evidence yet for this population, which has historically been underresearched.

Currently, the American Diabetes Association's Standards of Care cite Level A evidence, the highest rating supported by rigorous clinical research, for CGM use in patients receiving insulin. However, recommendations for people with diabetes who don't take insulin are supported by Level C evidence, reflecting more limited research.

The researchers hope these new findings could help close that gap by providing robust clinical evidence that CGMs improve blood sugar in this population.

"We hope this research will help strengthen national diabetes care guidelines and expand insurance coverage, making this technology more accessible to the millions of patients who could benefit from it," said Oser, who is also founder and director of the Primary Care Diabetes Lab at CU Anschutz.

For now, the authors suggest people with type 2 diabetes who don't take insulin should discuss the use of GCMs with their primary care providers as part of their diabetes management.

President and CEO Thayne Shaffer to retire on March 1, 2027, after 38 years of service.

RIVERDALE, Utah, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The America First Credit Union Board of Directors announced today that Missy Key has been selected to be the credit union's next President and Chief Executive Officer, effective March 1, 2027. She will succeed Thayne Shaffer, who plans to retire after 38 years of dedicated service to America First's members and employees.

"Missy is a strong, insightful and decisive executive who leads with vision and compassion," said Linda Carver, Chair of America First's Board of Directors. "Her 38 years of service at America First have prepared her well for this moment, and our members, employees and community partners are in good hands."

Key's appointment follows a milestone year for America First, including mergers with Meadows Bank and Greater Nevada Credit Union and growing to nearly 1.7 million members.

"America First has tremendous momentum, and Missy will carry forward that legacy of service and success," Shaffer said. "It has been an honor to work with her and so many other talented people at America First."

Shaffer became President and CEO in 2021. During his almost six-year tenure, America First achieved record asset and membership growth, weathered a pandemic and recession, completed three mergers and acquisitions, and launched a new digital banking system.

"Thayne's achievements as CEO speak for themselves, but his impact extends far beyond numbers," Carver said. "He has led with humility, transparency and an unwavering member-first focus. We are grateful for his remarkable service and wish him all the best in retirement."

Key will become the sixth President and CEO in America First's history.

"I am honored and excited by this opportunity," Key said. "I am grateful to have worked with Thayne for many years and appreciate the exemplary leadership he provided. I look forward to working with our Board and talented teams to continue building on our foundational values of serving members and strengthening the communities we serve."

Key's 38 years of service at America First include progressive leadership roles in accounting and finance, most recently serving as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Throughout her tenure, she has developed a deep understanding of America First's operations, its members and the communities it serves. As CFO, she has played an integral role in strengthening America First's financial position and working alongside the executive leadership team to shape and advance the credit union's strategic direction.

World's Largest Flying Digital Screen Makes NYC Debut with Two Flights and New Byron Allen Media Partnership

HELI-D flew over the Hudson River near Chelsea Piers and the Statue of Liberty during the DPAA Global Video Everywhere Summit, followed by an evening flight showcasing Byron Allen's media content

NEW YORK, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- HELI-D, the company behind the world's largest flying digital screen, made its New York City debut on October 13 with two flights introducing a new form of aerial digital advertising to one of the world's largest media markets. The debut featured an afternoon flight in partnership with the Digital Place Based Advertising Association (DPAA) during its annual Global Video Everywhere Summit, followed by an evening flight showcasing content from media mogul Byron Allen's Allen Media Group as part of a newly secured partnership.

The afternoon flight took place between 1:00 PM and 1:45 PM ET, coinciding with the Summit's lunch break. Launching from Newport Helistop in New Jersey, HELI-D flew along the Hudson River toward Chelsea Piers, where Summit attendees and New Yorkers had an opportunity to see the massive digital screen in action. The aircraft then headed south toward the Statue of Liberty, bringing the display to one of the city's most recognizable landmarks.

HELI-D returned to the skies later that evening for a second flight featuring content from Byron Allen's Allen Media Group. The new agreement marks a significant step in HELI-D's entry into the U.S. advertising market, bringing together its aerial digital display technology and one of the country's prominent media entrepreneurs.

Unlike traditional billboards fixed to buildings or roadside structures, HELI-D's technology takes digital out-of-home advertising into the sky, creating a mobile, large-scale display capable of bringing brand messages directly to high-visibility locations, major events and large audiences.

"New York City is one of the most important advertising markets in the world, and there's no better place to demonstrate what's possible when digital advertising takes to the skies," said Simon Powell, Co-Founder and CEO of HELI-D. "Launching with DPAA and The Ad Council, and now working with Byron Allen and his media company, makes this an incredibly exciting debut for us. These partnerships demonstrate the potential of our technology to bring major brands and media content to audiences in an entirely new way."

The New York debut coincided with the DPAA Global Video Everywhere Summit, which brought together leaders from across the advertising, media and digital out-of-home industries. As a new media partner of DPAA and The Ad Council, HELI-D featured content from both organizations during the afternoon flight, demonstrating how its aerial display can be used for commercial advertising, public awareness campaigns and large-scale brand activations.

With two flights marking its New York City debut and new partnerships spanning the advertising and media industries, HELI-D is positioning its technology as a new addition to the digital out-of-home advertising landscape, offering brands the ability to deliver dynamic content above some of the world's most recognizable destinations and major events.
