STATESVILLE, N.C., Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Kewaunee Scientific Corporation (NASDAQ: KEQU) today announced results for its first quarter ended July 31, 2026.

Fiscal Year 2027 First Quarter Highlights:

- Backlog increased to $169.0 million on July 31, 2026, up from $165.9 million on April 30, 2026.

- International segment net earnings increased 23.5% and segment EBITDA increased 13.9% despite lower sales as a result of a favorable mix of higher-margin projects.

- Ongoing cost management efforts and improved operating efficiencies helped mitigate the negative impact of lower manufacturing volumes within LPG.

- Higher effective tax rate driven by a greater mix of earnings from international operations relative to domestic operations.

- Long-term debt, excluding the Company's sale-leaseback financing obligation, declined to $13.8 million from $15.1 million on April 30, 2026.

- Corporate results included additional compensation expense associated with the decision to settle specific long-term incentive awards in cash rather than shares to reduce dilution to existing shareholders; the resulting incremental expense is not expected to recur.

Fiscal Year 2027 First Quarter Results:

Sales during the first quarter of fiscal year 2027 were $66,320,000, a decrease of 6.7% compared to sales of $71,104,000 from the prior year's first quarter. Pre-tax earnings for the quarter were $2,560,000 compared to $3,920,000 for the prior year quarter, a decrease of 34.7%. Net earnings were $1,706,000 compared to net earnings of $3,093,000 for the prior year quarter. EBITDA1 for the quarter was $4,525,000 compared to $6,320,000 for the prior year quarter. Diluted earnings per share were $0.58 compared to diluted earnings per share of $1.04 in the prior year quarter.

The Company's order backlog increased to $169.0 million on July 31, 2026 from $165.9 million on April 30, 2026. Backlog was $205.0 million on July 31, 2025.

During fiscal year 2026, the Company renamed its Domestic reportable segment to Lab Products Group ("LPG") to better align with the segment's expanded business activities, organizational structure, and strategic direction. This segment name change had no impact on the composition of the Company's reportable segments or on previously reported financial position, results of operations, cash flows, or segment operating results.

Lab Products Group Segment - LPG sales for the quarter were $50,868,000, a decrease of 6.4% from sales of $54,352,000 in the prior year quarter. LPG segment net earnings were $3,889,000 compared to $4,722,000 in the prior year quarter. LPG segment EBITDA was $6,585,000 compared to $7,576,000 for the prior year quarter. Despite lower manufacturing volumes amid challenging life sciences market conditions, the segment maintained solid profitability, supported by a stronger education market, disciplined cost management, and greater operating efficiencies.

International Segment - International sales for the quarter were $15,452,000, a decrease of 7.8% from sales of $16,752,000 in the prior year quarter. Despite lower sales, International segment net earnings increased 23.5% to $794,000 from $643,000 in the prior year quarter; while segment EBITDA increased 13.9% to $1,202,000 from $1,055,000. The improvement in profitability was driven by a favorable mix of higher-margin projects.

Corporate Segment – Corporate segment pre-tax net loss was $3,577,000 for the quarter, as compared to a pre-tax net loss of $3,058,000 in the prior year quarter. Corporate segment EBITDA for the quarter was ($3,262,000) compared to corporate segment EBITDA of ($2,311,000) for the prior year quarter. The change primarily reflected additional compensation expense associated with a decision to settle specific long-term incentive awards in cash rather than in shares to reduce dilution to existing shareholders. The resulting incremental compensation expense is not expected to recur.

Total cash on hand on July 31, 2026, was $10,261,000, as compared to $11,617,000 on April 30, 2026. Working capital was $56,716,000, as compared to $66,662,000 at the end of the first quarter last year and $57,046,000 on April 30, 2026.

The Company had short-term debt of $6,478,000 as of July 31, 2026, as compared to $5,904,000 on April 30, 2026. Long-term debt was $39,377,000 on July 31, 2026, as compared to $40,851,000 on April 30, 2026. The building lease from the Company's December 2021 sale-leaseback transaction accounts for $25,533,000 of the long-term debt on July 31, 2026, and $25,765,000 of the long-term debt on April 30, 2026. Long-term debt, net of the sale-leaseback transaction, was $13,844,000 on July 31, 2026, as compared to $15,086,000 on April 30, 2026. The Company's debt-to-equity ratio on July 31, 2026, was 0.59-to-1, as compared to 0.61-to-1 on April 30, 2026. The Company's debt-to-equity ratio, net of the sale-leaseback transaction, on July 31, 2026, was 0.25-to-1, as compared to 0.26-to-1 on April 30, 2026.

"I am pleased with Kewaunee's performance during the first quarter and, importantly, with the continued execution of our strategy," said Thomas D. Hull III, Kewaunee's President and Chief Executive Officer. "Quoting activity remains strong across our markets, reinforcing our confidence in the underlying demand for our products and capabilities. While project award and release timelines remain extended amid broader geopolitical and economic uncertainty, we continue to see a healthy level of customer activity and opportunity across the business."

"Kewaunee continues to perform well in this environment, strengthening its competitive position and outperforming the broader market, which we believe reflects the strength of our brands, the breadth of our capabilities, and our commitment to delivering exceptional value and service to our customers," Hull continued. "At the same time, we remain disciplined and focused on the areas we can control - serving our customers, improving our operations, strengthening our commercial capabilities, and ensuring we are well positioned as quoting activity converts into project awards and releases."

"As we discussed at our Annual Meeting of Shareholders in August, Kewaunee is operating from a position of strength. The progress we have made over the past several years has created a stronger, more diversified, and more resilient company, with an increasingly solid foundation for future growth. We continue to invest in our businesses, advance our strategy, and build the capabilities necessary to capture the opportunities ahead."

"While we remain attentive to near-term market conditions, our focus is firmly on the long term. We are confident in Kewaunee's competitive position, encouraged by the opportunities we see across our markets, and excited about the company's next phase of growth. We believe the actions we are taking today will position Kewaunee to continue creating sustainable value for our customers, associates, and shareholders."

EBITDA, Segment EBITDA, Adjusted EBITDA, and Adjusted Segment EBITDA Reconciliation

About Non-GAAP Measures

EBITDA and Segment EBITDA are calculated as net earnings (loss), less interest expense and interest income, income taxes, depreciation, and amortization. Adjusted EBITDA and Adjusted Segment EBITDA are calculated as EBITDA or Segment EBITDA less the impact of the professional and other fees related to the Company's integration of its newly acquired subsidiary, Nu Aire, Inc. We believe EBITDA, Segment EBITDA, Adjusted EBITDA, and Adjusted Segment EBITDA allow management and investors to compare our performance to other companies on a consistent basis without regard to interest expense and interest income, income taxes, depreciation, amortization or the costs incurred related to the integration of Nu Aire, Inc., which can vary significantly between companies depending upon many factors. EBITDA, Segment EBITDA, Adjusted EBITDA, and Adjusted Segment EBITDA are not calculations based upon generally accepted accounting principles, and the method for calculating EBITDA, Segment EBITDA, Adjusted EBITDA, and Adjusted Segment EBITDA can vary among companies. The amounts included in the EBITDA, Segment EBITDA, Adjusted EBITDA, and Adjusted Segment EBITDA calculations, however, are derived from amounts included in the historical consolidated statements of operations. EBITDA, Segment EBITDA, Adjusted EBITDA, and Adjusted Segment EBITDA should not be considered as alternatives to net earnings (loss) or operating earnings (loss) as an indicator of the Company's operating performance, or as an alternative to operating cash flows as a measure of liquidity.

New Jersey American Water Announces New Rates and Customer Bill Credit

Rate request approval supports more than $1.4 billion in ongoing system upgrades to strengthen water and wastewater infrastructure; PFAS settlement credit helps offset eligible water customers' bill impacts for 12 months

CAMDEN, N.J., Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- New Jersey American Water customers will begin seeing new water and wastewater rates following the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities' (BPU) approval of the company's rate request. As part of the BPU's approval of the company's PFAS Litigation Universal Surcredit (PLUS), eligible water customers will also receive a separate $9.88 monthly PFAS settlement credit for 12 months, helping offset bill impacts as the new rates take effect. The approved rates support continued investment in safe, clean and reliable water and wastewater service across New Jersey.

"This decision supports critical investments to replace aging infrastructure, advance water quality projects and improve reliability while keeping affordability at the forefront," said Mark McDonough, president of New Jersey American Water. "It provides a clear path to strengthen the water and wastewater systems our communities rely on."

The $68 million annual revenue increase supports more than $1.4 billion in continued upgrades across the company's treatment, transmission and distribution systems. In addition, the BPU also approved the company's infrastructure mechanism foundational filings, which also helps deliver water, wastewater improvements and resilience infrastructure investments.

Continued Investment in Water and Wastewater Infrastructure

The approved rates support the replacement or rehabilitation of nearly 120 miles of aging main, continued lead service line replacement and treatment upgrades related to PFAS and other emerging contaminants. These projects will strengthen service for homes, businesses, schools, hospitals, and communities across New Jersey.

Understanding the New Rates

Under the BPU-approved rates, which will become effective on September 15, 2026:

- The average residential water customer using approximately 5,700 gallons per month will see a monthly bill increase of approximately $4 per month. For eligible customers, the $9.88 monthly PLUS credit will more than offset that increase, resulting in an average net bill reduction of nearly $6 per month for 12 months.

- Residential wastewater customers will see an average increase of approximately $4 per month.

- Customers who receive both water and wastewater service will see an average increase of nearly $8 per month, offset by the $9.88 monthly PLUS credit, resulting in an average net bill reduction of nearly $2 per month for 12 months.

Actual bill impacts will vary based on customer usage, service type and service area. The approved rates maintain a focus on affordability while supporting continued water and wastewater system improvements.

Customers will receive information about the new rates in upcoming bill communications. More information about approved rates, the PLUS credit, bill impacts and customer resources will be available at www.newjerseyamwater.com/rates.

Separate PFAS Settlement Credit

In a separate filing, the BPU approved the PLUS mechanism to return PFAS settlement proceeds directly to eligible water customers. New Jersey American Water will return more than $79 million in PFAS litigation proceeds and interest through a monthly PLUS credit of $9.88 for 12 months beginning in September 2026. The credit will appear as "PLUS" on eligible water customers' bills.

Future PFAS settlement proceeds will be returned through the PLUS mechanism as one-time credits on customers' bills after calculations are verified by the BPU.

"The PLUS mechanism provides a transparent way to return PFAS settlement proceeds and interest directly to eligible water customers," McDonough said. "Customers will see the credit identified separately on their bills, making it clear how those funds are being returned."

Customer Assistance and Bill Support

New Jersey American Water continues to offer bill payment assistance programs for income-eligible customers, along with budget billing and flexible payment plans. Program information is available at www.newjerseyamwater.com/h2oprogram.

As part of the rate request approval, New Jersey American Water will continue working with the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs to evaluate the enrollment process for its Universal Affordability Tariff program, including potential automatic enrollment for eligible customers who already receive certain energy assistance benefits.

"Water service is essential, and customers experiencing financial hardship should know assistance is available," McDonough said. "We encourage customers who need help to review the available programs and contact us before falling behind on their bills."

Wiley Rein LLP Reports that U.S. Pizza Box Producers File Petitions for Relief from Unfairly Traded Imports from China, Malaysia, and Turkey

Wiley Rein LLP Reports that U.S. Pizza Box Producers File Petitions for Relief from Unfairly Traded Imports from China, Malaysia, and Turkey

WASHINGTON, Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Pizza Boxes Manufacturers Coalition and the United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union filed petitions today alleging that unfairly traded imports of corrugated pizza boxes from China, Malaysia, and Turkey are injuring, and threaten to further injure, the U.S. pizza box industry.

The petitions demonstrate that pizza box producers in each of the subject countries sell pizza boxes in the United States at less than fair value. These pizza boxes are being dumped in the United States at rates ranging from 96.62% to 568.50% for China, 110.73% for Malaysia, and 120.65% to 210.37% for Turkey. These rates of dumping reflect the estimated amount of unfair pricing used by the foreign producers to gain market share in the United States. The petitions further demonstrate that producers in Turkey unfairly benefit from numerous countervailable subsidies provided by the Turkish government, such as tax breaks and discounted raw materials and inputs, which provide artificial advantages to the Turkish industry. There is also evidence that the Russian government has provided cross-border subsidies that benefit pizza box producers in Turkey. Together, these unfair advantages have allowed Chinese, Malaysian, and Turkish producers to gain significant market share at the expense of the U.S. industry and its workers.

The filing was made concurrently with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) in response to the surge in volumes of unfairly traded imports from China, Malaysia, and Turkey since 2023. From 2023 to 2025, subject imports increased by 130%, and they have increased even further thus far in 2026. By using highly dumped and subsidized prices, Chinese, Malaysian, and Turkish producers have gained a significant and increasing share of the U.S. market at the direct expense of the American industry. Due to the increasing volumes of dumped and subsidized imports, U.S. producers have suffered significant declines in production, shipments, profits, and employment.

"Trade relief is necessary to remedy the injurious effects unfairly traded imports have had on the U.S. pizza box industry," commented Robert E. DeFrancesco, partner in Wiley's International Trade Practice and counsel to the petitioners, emphasizing that "the application of antidumping and countervailing duties will be vital to supporting this quintessential American industry and its thousands of workers."

FACT SHEET

Antidumping and Countervailing Duties: Antidumping duties are intended to offset the amount by which a product is sold at less than fair value, or "dumped," in the United States. The margin of dumping is calculated by Commerce. Estimated duties in the amount of the dumping are collected from importers at the time of importation. Countervailing duties are intended to offset unfair subsidies that are provided by foreign governments and benefit the production of a particular good. The USITC, an independent agency, will determine whether the domestic industry is materially injured or threatened with material injury by reason of the unfairly traded imports.

Product Description: The products covered by these investigations consist of certain corrugated food service boxes, which are commonly referred to as pizza boxes, whether finished or unfinished and assembled or unassembled. This includes ready-to-assemble corrugated cardboard die-cut blanks. In-scope pizza boxes have a length of at least five inches, a width of at least five inches, and a height that is no greater than four inches.

Next Steps: Commerce will determine whether to initiate the investigations within 20 days of today's filing, and the USITC will reach a preliminary determination of material injury or threat of material injury within 45 days. The entire investigative process will take approximately one year, with final determinations of dumping, subsidization, and injury likely occurring in late 2027. However, duties can attach to imports of the subject pizza boxes at the time of the preliminary determinations in the case, or even earlier.

Coalition Companies: The petitioning coalition is comprised of Smurfit Westrock and Pratt Industries. The coalition is represented by Wiley Rein LLP. The coalition is joined by the United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union as co-petitioner.

A Lasting Legacy from a Profound 9/11 Loss: Harcum College and the Kevin D. Marlo Scholarship
Image File
Original HTML

His loss connected the Harcum community to one of the defining events of our time in a deeply personal way. Behind the numbers and historic images was a young man with a family, friendships, aspirations, and an enthusiasm for the performing arts.

A passionate actor, Kevin understood the unique power of theatre to bring people together, communicate ideas, evoke emotion, and tell stories. His connection to the arts makes the way his memory lives on at Harcum particularly meaningful.

A Place to Remember

In the years following Kevin's passing, the Marlo Family found a way to honor Kevin that would extend his memory into the life of Harcum and into the futures of its students. With the restoration and advancement of Harcum's Little Theatre, a lasting tribute to Kevin and to the art he loved was created. Today, the theatre bears his name: the Kevin D. Marlo Theatre.

For Harcum, it is more than a theatre. It is a space dedicated to remembering Kevin and a space for students to embark on their future. Kevin's life may have been cut short, but the values he represented—creativity, expression, connection, and the pursuit of one's passions—continue to find a home at Harcum.

Remembering Through Opportunity

The Marlo Family's connection to Harcum also led to the College's creation of the Kevin D. Marlo Scholarship. Established in Kevin's memory, the scholarship provides partial tuition support to Harcum students who demonstrate academic merit and financial need. Since its inception, the annual scholarship fundraising event, Kevin D. Marlo Golf & Racquet Classic, has raised more than $1.5 million and awarded financial support to over 100 students.

"Receiving the Kevin D. Marlo Scholarship means more to me than I can fully express. It has allowed me to focus on my education without the constant stress of financial burden. It has also eased pressure on my family and gave me the freedom to pursue my goals with greater independence and determination." said James Mallon, anticipated 2027 Physical Therapy Assistant and Scholarship recipient.

Each scholarship recipient represents a continuation of something that Kevin never had the opportunity to experience: the unfolding of a future. Through their education, their accomplishments, and the lives they go on to lead, these students carry forward a legacy that began in remembrance.

A Personal Connection

At Harcum, Kevin D. Marlo provides a personal connection to the remembrance of that tragic day. September 11, 2001 was not simply a moment in history but a collection of individual tragedies—thousands of people whose lives, families, dreams, and communities were changed forever. Kevin was one of those individuals. And because of his family's connection to Harcum, his story has become part of Harcum's.

DJI zvoláva v rámci akcie Venice Production Bridge počas 83. ročníka Medzinárodného filmového festivalu v Benátkach stretnutie „filmári a vizionári"

Nová generácia, nový filmový jazyk: Osmo Pocket 4P otvára novú diskusiu o rozprávaní príbehov, kreatívnej slobode a profesionálnych nástrojoch.

BENÁTKY, Taliansko, 9. september 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Spoločnosť DJI, svetový líder v oblasti civilných dronov a technológií pre kreatívne natáčanie, usporiadala počas podujatia Venice Production Bridge na 83. ročníku Medzinárodného filmového festivalu v Benátkach odborné fórum „Filmári a vizionári". Stretnutie spojilo začínajúcich režisérov a kameramanov, aby spoločne preskúmali otázku, na ktorú filmový priemysel ešte len začína hľadať odpovede: Keď sa filmová kamera zmestí do dlane, ako sa zmení samotný jazyk filmu?

Z Cannes do Benátok: jednotná vízia

Premietali sa štyri krátke filmy vytvorené medzinárodnou skupinou začínajúcich kameramanov: Gabriele Mencaroni a Alessandro Tempestini (Taliansko), Liu Yadi (Čína/Francúzsko) a Zhou Chengzhou (Čína/Holandsko). Ich kolektívna tvorba zahŕňala experimentálny film, komerčnú produkciu aj dokumentárne filmy ocenené na festivaloch – táto rozmanitosť odráža generáciu, ktorá prekračuje tradičné tvorivé hranice.

Po premietaní a ukážke natáčania naživo poskytli dôkladnú profesionálnu kritiku traja medzinárodne uznávaní kameramani: Valentin Vignet, francúzsky kameraman známy svojou prácou na filme Faces Places a krátkometrážnom filme Nefta Football Club nominovanom na Oscara; Cristiano Di Nicola, oceňovaný taliansky kameraman zastúpený v Benátkach filmom „L'Estranea" v oficiálnej súťaži; a Michele D'Attanasio, dvojnásobný držiteľ ceny Davida di Donatella, známy filmami ako Veloce come il vento, Freaks Out a L'ombra di Caravaggio. Všetci traja majú skúsenosti s riadením rozsiahlych produkcií a hodnotili vizuálne rozprávanie mladých režisérov v porovnaní s nekompromisnými štandardmi profesionálnej kinematografie, pričom preukázali, že technická sofistikovanosť diel spĺňala tradičné kinematografické štandardy bez kompromisov.

Medzikultúrni kameramani ako Liu Yadi a Zhou Chengzhou videli dôraz niekde inde: Ako si mladí kameramani udržiavajú skutočne filmový výraz v rámci prísnych limitov obmedzených rozpočtov a malých štábov?
