Belgrade – September 15, 2026 -- Former world No. 1 tennis player Jelena Janković has been appointed Global Ambassador for EXPO 2027 Belgrade, becoming the first Serbian national to join the event's ambassador roster.
Janković joins an international ambassador lineup including Usain Bolt, Jackie Chan and Lin Dan
Her appointment aligns with the Expo's positioning around sport as a tool to connect audiences and cross borders. Janković reached the world No. 1 ranking in 2008, won 15 career titles, reached the US Open final, and captured the Wimbledon mixed doubles title. She represented Serbia at four Olympic Games.
In a statement, Janković said the role marked a shift from representing Serbia abroad throughout her playing career to now welcoming international visitors to the country as Expo 2027 host.
Expo 2027 Belgrade runs May 15 to August 15, 2027, under the theme "Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All"
Organizers have confirmed participation from more than 140 international participants. The event is projected to draw approximately four million domestic and international visitors over its three-month run.
