There's No Place Like Our Home by the Sea: Hampton University Announces Homecoming Week 2026
Image File
Original HTML

Weeklong celebration October 18-25 will welcome generations of Pirates home while delivering an estimated $8-$10 million boost to the regional visitor economy

HAMPTON, Va., Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Some places you visit. Others become part of who you are.

This October, thousands of Hampton Pirates will make the familiar journey back to the place where lifelong friendships began; careers took shape, and generations learned what it means to carry their Hampton education into the world.

Hampton University Homecoming 2026 will return October 18-25, bringing eight days of tradition, music, fellowship, culture, football and celebration to the University's iconic waterfront campus.

And when the Hampton family comes home, its impact extends well beyond the gates of the University. Hampton's Homecoming impact is part of a larger story about the economic power of Virginia's private colleges and universities. A Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia (CICV) report found that graduates of its 28 member institutions during the 2024-2025 academic year, including Hampton University, generate an estimated $515 million in annual economic activity across Virginia while strengthening the Commonwealth's workforce in high-demand fields. For Hampton, that impact comes full circle during Homecoming, when alumni return to the region as professionals, entrepreneurs, consumers and investors in the communities that helped shape them.

Beyond the Gate: Measuring Hampton's Homecoming Impact

New visitor analytics from Placer.ai reveals the growing reach of Hampton Homecoming. During Homecoming 2025, the University's campus generated approximately 96,000 visits from an estimated 40,800 visitors, with campus visits increasing 16.5% over the previous year and unique visitors growing 18.3%.

Those visitors did more than come to campus. They stayed in area hotels. They gathered around restaurant tables. They shopped. They filled gas tanks. They visited attractions. They supported entrepreneurs and vendors. And for one remarkable week, the energy of Hampton University moved throughout the city and the region.

Based on visitor volume, regional tourism spending patterns and Homecoming-related activity, Hampton University estimates the celebration generates approximately $8 million to $10 million in direct and indirect economic activity across Hampton and the surrounding Coastal Virginia region.

"Homecoming is one of those extraordinary moments when you can see, hear and feel the reach of Hampton University," said Hampton University President Darrell K. Williams '83. "Our alumni return to the place that helped shape their lives, but their return also supports the community that has been Hampton's home for more than 150 years. Every hotel room, restaurant meal, small business purchase, Homecoming ticket and vendor interaction becomes part of a much larger economic story. Hampton is an anchor institution, and Homecoming demonstrates the power of that relationship in a very tangible way."

96,000 Visits. One Unforgettable Experience.

Hampton's 2025 Homecoming provides the clearest picture yet of the celebration's reach.

Placer.ai analysis measured approximately 96,000 visits to Hampton University during the October 19-26, 2025 period, representing approximately 40,800 visitors. The average visitor spent more than five hours in the campus area, underscoring Homecoming's evolution into a destination experience rather than simply a single football game or concert.

The data also demonstrate the national pull of the Hampton experience.

While Coastal Virginia represented the largest visitor market, Hampton drew substantial traffic from the Washington, D.C. region, New York, Richmond, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Raleigh-Durham, Chicago and Los Angeles.

That national footprint means Homecoming dollars travel with alumni back to Coastal Virginia.

When Pirates Come Home, Hampton Roads Benefits

Homecoming's economic footprint stretches from Queen Street into the surrounding business community.

Placer.ai visitor movement data identified Peninsula Town Center among the most frequently visited destinations associated with Hampton visitors. The analysis also captured visitor activity at restaurants and retailers, including dining establishments, coffee shops, convenience stores and major retailers.

Hotel activity is part of the story as well. Placer.ai identified Embassy Suites by Hilton Hampton Convention Center among establishments visited immediately before or after Hampton University, illustrating how the Homecoming economy moves between campus and the surrounding hospitality community.

The result is a chain of economic activity.

An alumna flies into Norfolk International Airport. She books a hotel room. Her classmates meet for dinner. They purchase Homecoming apparel. They support a vendor at the Bazaar. They stop for coffee the next morning, attend the parade and spend Saturday afternoon inside Armstrong Stadium.

Multiply that experience across tens of thousands of people, and Homecoming becomes more than an event. It becomes a temporary visitor economy.

Virginia tourism data reinforce that effect. Visitor spending across the Commonwealth reached a record $36.2 billion in the latest reporting period, with travelers spending approximately $99 million each day and supporting restaurants, hotels, retailers, attractions, transportation providers and small businesses according to the Virginia Tourism Corporation.

For Hampton University, those statewide trends are playing out locally during one of the institution's most celebrated weeks of the year.

From the Vendors Bazaar to the Stadium

Some of Homecoming's economic impact never leaves campus, and that is intentional.

Hampton's Vendors Bazaar creates an important marketplace for entrepreneurs, including Hampton-affiliated and Black-owned businesses. Thousands of alumni, students and guests have an opportunity to shop directly with vendors during the busiest days of the celebration.

Ticketed University events also generate revenue that supports the institution.

Hampton's approach to Homecoming is rooted in a simple idea: Come Back. Give Back.

Homecoming participation, ticket purchases and philanthropic giving help advance student scholarships, academic programs, research, campus improvements and student-centered initiatives. That means the financial footprint of Homecoming works in two directions, strengthening the regional economy while reinvesting in the institution that brings thousands of people to Hampton each October.

"Homecoming is nostalgia with purpose," said Dr. Marc A. Newman, Chief Advancement Officer. "Yes, we want Pirates to return to see old friends, walk the waterfront, hear the band and remember the moments that made Hampton home. But we also want that love for Hampton to become an investment in Hampton. Come back. Give back. Support our students. Support our entrepreneurs. Support this community. That is how a treasured tradition becomes an investment in the next generation."

The True Celebrities Are the People Who Knew You When

There will be music. There will be fashion. There will be performances, parties and football.

But Hampton Homecoming has never been defined solely by who takes the stage.

The real attraction is the person who sat beside you in freshman English. The roommate you have not seen in five years. The professor who still remembers your name. The classmates who watched you become who you are today.

For generations of alumni, Homecoming offers something increasingly rare: the opportunity to return to a place where history is personal.

It is walking beneath the Emancipation Oak again.

It is hearing the Marching Force in the distance.

It is seeing blue and white everywhere.

It is recognizing someone across the yard before either of you has to say a word.

Come back for the memories. Come back for the people. Come back for the traditions. Come back and give back.

Because there is still no place quite like our Home by the Sea.

Additional event details, performers, ticket information and programming will be announced as Homecoming approaches. Visit the Homecoming website or download the Homecoming app for more information.

ZORO Takes The Floor at FinCon 2026, Live-Demos Its AI Trading Agent Platform
Image File
Original HTML

The Los Angeles startup streams the demo live from Palm Springs, showing how professional traders turn one licensed strategy into an always-on trading agent ahead of this fall's retail launch.

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- ZORO, the AI trading agent marketplace built for professional traders, will livestream a demo of its Pro App tomorrow from FinCon 2026 in Palm Springs, giving the public its first real look at the platform traders use to turn a licensed strategy into an agent that trades whether they're at the screen or not.

The demo streams on ZORO's X account, @zorotrading, and its YouTube channel, ZORO Trading HQ, alongside a lineup of trading educators and financial content creators with a combined following of more than 11 million. FinCon 2026 runs September 16 through 18 at the Palm Springs Convention Center and draws thousands of financial content creators, advisors and fintech brands each year. The demo is ZORO's first major public appearance ahead of its retail app, which opens this fall.

"Every trader I know has the same problem. Your income stops the moment you do," said Chris Hnatko, founder of Spartan Trading and CEO of ZORO. "I've taken one or two days off in ten years, because the second I stop showing up, the money stops. I built ZORO so that isn't true anymore, for me or for anyone who's put in the years building a strategy that actually works."

Turning a Licensed Strategy Into an AI Trading Agent, Not Another Wrapper

A trader writes their setups and rules in plain English, then licenses that strategy to ZORO's Pro App. From there, it becomes a floor of live trading agents: one running the trader's own account around the clock, and copies of it available for followers to run inside ZORO's retail app. Every agent on the floor stays tied to the trader's own name, not folded into an anonymous backtest in a database. It's the idea behind ZORO's tagline: Take the floor.

The engine behind it uses AI to help build a strategy, then hands execution to algorithms instead of an AI model making live calls. "A model making its own trading decisions in real time is slow, it's a security risk, and it burns money at the frequency that actually matters. That's exactly why the biggest trading firms in the world run on algorithms and not on a chatbot," Hnatko said. "We spent years building an engine that trades like they do. Nobody copies that in a weekend. We want ZORO to be the best AI trading agent platform for traders who already have alpha, not the biggest database of backtests."

Every call the floor makes is timestamped with the market price at the moment it fires, producing a record that can be checked against the tape.

James Kim, ZORO's co-founder and CFO, called what it built around that engine the harder problem to solve. "We built the part a trader can't build alone: institutional-grade broker connections and billing infrastructure that let thousands of people run his strategy inside their own accounts."

Copy Trading, Rebuilt Around a Strategy That Never Logs Off

On the retail side, ZORO works like copy trading with one key difference: it doesn't stop when the trader logs off. A follower picks a trader they already trust and turns on that trader's strategy inside their own connected brokerage account. From there, the strategy keeps trading that account around the clock, and the follower's money never leaves their own account. Traditional copy trading mirrors one trade at a time, after a person already made it by hand, which caps the follower at whatever hours that person watched and whatever single setup they caught. The strategy works through many setups at once, not one after another, and keeps running while the trader is asleep or away from the desk, catching what they'd otherwise miss. ZORO's retail app opens to the public this fall.

A Team That Isn't New to This

ZORO is led by Chris Hnatko, the company's CEO, who built Spartan Trading into an established day-trading community before founding ZORO. The leadership team also includes Hunter Isaacson, the company's Head of Product, who previously built consumer apps, including Bags, that have generated more than 400 million combined downloads, James Kim, ZORO's co-founder and CFO, who previously worked at Tinder, and multiple other founding members with prior exits.

Hilton Boston Back Bay Launches Sport of Kings Executive Meetings Package In Partnership with Historic Boston Tennis Club

A new partnership with Boston's historic Tennis & Racquet Club creates a memorable team-building experience for corporate groups and meeting planners.

BOSTON, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Hilton Boston Back Bay has debuted a new executive retreat package in partnership with its historic neighbor, the Tennis & Racquet Club of Boston. The experience offers meetings & conference guests a chance to step into the historic clubhouse and experience one of the world's oldest and rarest sports.

The Sport of Kings Executive Retreat connects guests with the game of Real Tennis (also known as Royal Tennis), an 800-year-old sport widely recognized as the precursor to modern Tennis. Once favored by monarchs like Henry VIII, and with fewer than 50 courts remaining worldwide, the Tennis & Racquet Club of Boston preserves their own court, just steps away from Hilton Boston Back Bay's newly renovated 15,000 sq ft conference center and the Hynes Convention Center. Through a teamwork focused on-court clinic program with the Club's pros, small groups can schedule a one-of-a-kind executive retreat into their Boston itinerary.

As the city helps mark America's 250th anniversary, visitors are exploring its many layers of history—from its colonial roots under British rule to its pivotal role in the nation's founding, and beyond. The Sport of Kings Executive Retreat offers corporate groups a chance to experience one of Boston's lesser-known royal influences and enjoy an unforgettable setting for lessons and discussions in leadership, strategy, competition, and teamwork.

"Corporate retreats should be about creating shared moments that are unforgettable—experiences you simply can't recreate over a video call," said Mohamed Hashesh, General Manager of Hilton Boston Back Bay. "What we love about our neighborhood is that there are so many ways for meeting planners to add something special to their conference or meeting itineraries while giving attendees an unforgettable way to experience Boston's Back Bay."

Guests will enjoy use of the club's equipment—including the game's distinctive wooden racquets and hand-stitched balls—and participate in guided match play. Groups may further elevate the experience with a professional exhibition match or private courtside cocktail reception.

The new package complements Hilton Boston Back Bay's recent multimillion-dollar transformation, which includes fully renovated meeting and event spaces and introduces the hotel's expansive new fitness facilities. Together, these investments reflect a growing emphasis on the role of wellness and fitness at the intersection of business and corporate travel.

Located on Dalton Street in Boston's Back Bay neighborhood, Hilton Boston Back Bay is a 401-room full-service hotel offering newly renovated guest accommodations, more than 15,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space, and one of the city's most comprehensive hotel fitness centers. Steps from the Hynes Convention Center, Fenway Park, Newbury Street and Boston's leading cultural institutions, the hotel provides business and leisure travelers with exceptional access to the city's most iconic destinations. Following a recent multimillion-dollar transformation, Hilton Boston Back Bay continues to redefine the modern business travel experience through thoughtfully designed accommodations, elevated wellness amenities and distinctive local partnerships.

Lennar Unveils The Farm, a New Community Rooted in the Inland Empire's Outdoor Lifestyle

JURUPA VALLEY, Calif., Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Lennar, one of the nation's leading homebuilders, announces the debut of The Farm, a new resort-style community in Jurupa Valley, Calif., offering a diverse collection of low-maintenance condominiums and spacious single-family homes. With 16 thoughtfully designed floorplans to choose from, The Farm offers homebuyers a variety of options to suit their lifestyles.

"The Farm is about creating a neighborhood where life extends beyond the walls of the home," said Mark Torres, Lennar Inland Division President. "You can start your morning by walking through the community, spend the afternoon at the pool, meet friends for pickleball or a barbecue and come home to a space designed for the way you live. With a wide range of design options, we've created a community where buyers at many different stages of life can find their place."

Life at The Farm is designed around the simple pleasure of living outdoors and connecting with neighbors. Here, community is woven into the rhythm of everyday life—from afternoons spent poolside and evenings filled with pickleball or backyard barbecues to weekends exploring the parks, playgrounds and community garden. A thoughtfully designed clubhouse and dedicated dog park add even more opportunities to gather, relax and connect, creating a neighborhood where time together comes naturally.

Surrounding these shared spaces are four distinct home collections offering 16 condo and single-family home designs, giving buyers the flexibility to choose a home that fits their stage of life. Homes range from 845 to 2,869 square feet with one to four bedrooms and one-and-one-half to three-and-one-half baths, with pricing starting in the high $400,000s.

Every home at The Farm offers Lennar's signature Everything's Included® program, where the homebuilder's most popular features and finishes are built into the base price of the home. At The Farm, this includes stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, hard-surface flooring, cabinetry, and a host of other carefully curated interior touches and designer fixtures.

The Farm provides easy access to shopping, dining and entertainment just minutes away at Eastvale Gateway, The Station at Eastvale and Vernola Marketplace. Proximity to Interstate 15, SR-60 and SR-91 keeps commutes and weekend trips convenient.

RacketPro Named Strategic Coaching Education Provider for Life Time Pickleball

RPO will bring its assessment-driven coach certification to Life Time's national pickleball program, the largest court network in the country.

NORTH BETHESDA, Md., Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- RacketPro (RPO), the global certification and membership body for pickleball coaches, today announced it will serve as the strategic coaching education provider for Life Time Pickleball (NYSE: LTH) across the company's national network of athletic country clubs.

The RPO curriculum was designed by Collin Johns, former world No. 1 in men's doubles, around a hierarchy of assessment: a structured framework for diagnosing where a player actually breaks down and applying the right intervention in the right order. Instead of handing coaches a generic script, RPO trains them to read a player, prioritize what to fix, and coach the cause rather than the symptom.

The relationship will give Life Time pickleball coaches and pros across the company access to RPO's Level 1–3 certification pathway, SafeSport training, JOOLA professional equipment and more, all created to support coaching and play at the highest standard.

"I built this curriculum around the problem I saw everywhere in the sport — coaches who could demonstrate a shot but couldn't tell you why a player kept missing it," said Collin Johns, former world No. 1 in men's doubles and architect of the RPO curriculum. "Assessment is the whole thing. If you can find the real breakdown and fix it in the right order, you can move any player forward. Life Time gives us a chance to put that in front of more coaches, and more players, than anywhere else in pickleball."

Over the past two years, Life Time has become one of the largest providers of pickleball courts in the United States with more than 900 permanent indoor and outdoor courts at 152 clubs, investing heavily in its people, programming and places to build the most premium member experience offered. The RPO relationship supports that growth by raising the standard of coaching across Life Time locations nationwide.

RacketPro exists to build the professional infrastructure pickleball has been missing. As the sport has exploded, coaching quality has remained wildly inconsistent, with no shared standard for what a qualified pickleball coach actually knows. RPO sets that standard and holds coaches to it, so players, facilities, and the sport itself can trust the credential. The Life Time collaboration extends that mission to one of the most visible stages in the sport.

"Life Time has done something no one else in this sport has done at scale," said West Shaw, CEO of RacketPro. "They've built the court infrastructure and matched it with an experience members genuinely love. Our job is to make sure the coaches delivering that experience are teaching the right fundamentals, built on methods from one of the best minds in the game. Life Time members deserve coaches who can diagnose their game, not just run drills. That's exactly what RPO trains coaches to do."

A Different Approach to Coach Education

Most coaching certifications test whether you can recite the rules. RPO tests whether you can teach.

RPO certification combines an online curriculum with an in-person workshop, liability insurance, and annual continuing education to keep coaches current. Through RPO's partnership with JOOLA — the official paddle sponsor of the PPA Tour — every certified coach also receives professional-grade equipment as part of their membership.

About RacketPro (RPO)

RacketPro is a global pickleball coach certification and membership organization built to professionalize coaching across the sport. RPO certifies coaches through an assessment-driven methodology, supports them with insurance and continuing education, and partners with leading facility operators to raise coaching standards at scale. RPO is an official partner of JOOLA.

ADLM calls for CLIA updates to help ensure safe and reliable use of AI in laboratory medicine
Image File
Original HTML

WASHINGTON, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM) has submitted comments in response to a federal request for information regarding potential updates to the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), which are a set of regulatory standards that govern all clinical laboratory testing in the U.S. In the comment letter, ADLM recommends that, under CLIA, emerging artificial intelligence (AI) tools should remain subject to the same professional expertise, quality systems, validation requirements, and monitoring standards that apply to traditional laboratory testing.

Read the full comment letter: https://myadlm.org/advocacy-and-outreach/Comment-Letters/2026/clia-rfi

Clinical laboratory testing has advanced significantly since CLIA was first implemented in 1992, and one of the biggest recent developments in the field is the growing use of AI. Traditional software has long supported high-quality laboratory testing by performing functions such as verifying, interpreting, and reporting results, and newer technologies such as AI and machine learning are playing an increasingly integral role in many of these same areas. However, AI-based tools introduce new modes of failure and safety issues that the current CLIA framework does not address. For example, an error in conventional software generally affects every patient case that meets the same programmed conditions and can be evaluated using cases with known expected outputs. An AI-based model, on the other hand, may produce case-specific errors, making it more difficult to troubleshoot the problem. Generative AI can also produce inaccurate or unsupported information, omit clinically important facts, or change behavior following updates to the model, prompt, or knowledge base.

As AI-based tools become more prevalent in laboratory medicine, ADLM recommends making targeted updates to CLIA that reflect the new challenges that accompany these technologies. Highlights of the recommendations in ADLM's comment letter include the following:

- The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (the two agencies that support CLIA) should establish federal oversight for AI-based tools that avoids unnecessary duplication. Specifically, the Food and Drug Administration may regulate particular software products or medical devices, while CLIA governs the laboratory's responsibility for accurate and reliable testing.

- CLIA should distinguish between conventional software and AI models. Laboratories should also account for the differences in how traditional software and learned models perform when validating and monitoring their performance.

- CLIA should adopt a risk-based, technology-appropriate approach that establishes clear quality expectations for AI-based tools while preserving the ability of laboratory directors and qualified laboratory professionals to determine scientifically appropriate methods for meeting these expectations.

- When a facility independently analyzes patient-specific laboratory data or provides specialized laboratory interpretation that generates or helps generate a test result or interpretation for clinical use, those activities are part of the total testing process and should be subject to appropriate CLIA oversight.

Overall, ADLM's comments emphasize that AI-based tools should be evaluated as part of the total testing process within CLIA's existing framework rather than treated as standalone software tools that require the creation of a separate regulatory structure.

"AI has the potential to support tremendous advances in laboratory medicine, but innovation in this area must be balanced with the need to ensure test quality and patient safety," said ADLM President Dr. Stanley F. Lo. "Laboratories have the expertise and quality systems needed to evaluate, implement, and continuously monitor AI tools, making continued laboratory oversight essential to the responsible use of AI in clinical laboratory testing."
