Pensacola Has Plenty of Places to Work Out. BEEM® Wants to Be Where the City Recovers

First-time entrepreneurs Clara Kim and Ryan Roberts are opening a private infrared sauna and light therapy studio designed to make recovery part of the routine.

PENSACOLA, Fla., Sept. 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- For years, Pensacola resident Clara Kim wished there were a place close to home dedicated to the wellness experiences she was already seeking out herself. Now, she and Ryan Roberts are creating it.

BEEM® Light Sauna Pensacola is preparing to open at 6235 N Davis Hwy., Ste. 105-106, bringing private infrared sauna and advanced light therapy to the local wellness scene. The new studio is designed around a simple idea: for a community that already knows how to stay active, recovery deserves a routine of its own.

"I always joke that I'm my own target customer," said Kim. "I've wanted a place like this in Pensacola for a long time. There are so many people here who prioritize their health and fitness, and we're excited to give them a dedicated place to focus on the recovery side of that equation."

BEEM® offers private light therapy suites and both private and social infrared sauna experiences, giving guests the ability to make each visit their own. A session might mean unwinding solo after a workout, catching up with a friend in the social sauna, or simply carving out time to disconnect from a busy day.

For Kim and Roberts, the opening also marks their first venture into entrepreneurship. The process has taken them from learning commercial real estate and construction to building a team and introducing a business that Pensacola had yet to experience.

"The best part has been meeting people who are just as enthusiastic about light therapy as we are," said Kim. "You can explain the experience, but there are certain things – the glow after a light session, relaxing in the sauna, even the cold mint towel at the end – that are just better experienced for yourself."

That philosophy will carry into the studio's opening, with two complimentary sessions giving new guests an opportunity to experience BEEM® firsthand.

The owners are also beginning to put down roots beyond the studio. BEEM® Pensacola has already supported local organizations including Big Brothers Big Sisters and Hope Above Fear through raffle donations, with plans to continue building relationships with area businesses, charities, and community organizations.

Ultimately, Kim and Roberts want BEEM® to become Pensacola's go-to destination for the part of wellness that can be easiest to overlook.

"People are great about building a workout into their schedule, but recovery is just as important," said Kim. "Whether someone comes in after a workout or simply needs some quiet time for themselves, we want them to walk out thinking one thing: 'I feel better.'"

Lument Finance Trust Suspends Common Stock Dividend, and Declares Q3 Preferred Stock Dividend
Image File
Original HTML

NEW YORK, Sept. 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Lument Finance Trust, Inc. (NYSE: LFT) ("we", "LFT" or "the Company") today announced that its Board of Directors suspended the Company's quarterly dividend on its common stock commencing with the third quarter dividend that would have otherwise been paid in October 2026.

The Board's decision reflects both the Company's expectation that it will satisfy its REIT taxable income distribution requirements for the 2026 calendar year and the Board's and management's belief that preserving capital and maintaining financial flexibility is in the best interests of the Company and its stockholders.

LFT paid two regular quarterly dividends during the first half of 2026, totaling $0.08 per share of common stock on a pre-reverse split basis, or $0.80 per share on a post-reverse split basis, which exceeded the Company's REIT taxable income for the first half of 2026 and is expected to exceed the Company's REIT taxable income distribution requirements for the full 2026 calendar year.

"The Board and management believe that retaining capital at this time is the prudent course of action and best positions the Company to actively manage its portfolio, maintain financial flexibility and support long-term stockholder value," said James Flynn, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of LFT. "Given our current expectations for 2026 taxable income, we do not anticipate the need for additional common stock distributions to satisfy our REIT distribution requirements this year. We believe this decision provides the Company with additional flexibility as we continue to focus on prudent portfolio management and actions intended to support long-term value creation."

The Board will continue to evaluate the Company's dividend policy based on portfolio performance, taxable income, liquidity and overall capital requirements, among other factors.

The Company also announced the declaration of a cash dividend of $0.4921875 per share of its 7.875% Cumulative Redeemable Series A Preferred Stock. The dividend is payable on October 15, 2026, to preferred stockholders of record as of the close of business on October 1, 2026.

Fathom Statement on Governor Newsom's Executive Order to Accelerate Independent Verification of AI
Image File
Original HTML

Order speeds up the timeline to implement SB 813, the first comprehensive independent verification law in the nation, and convenes national experts to look at where independent verification could play a bigger role

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Sept. 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Governor Newsom today signed an executive order accelerating the implementation of SB 813, the Fathom-sponsored law that created the nation's first comprehensive framework for independent verification organizations.

The executive order moves up the deadline for California to finalize IVO designation criteria from January 2028 to May 2027, and convenes experts to recommend, by November 16, a series of technical feasibility questions on IVOs: whether IVOs should be embedded onsite inside frontier labs, independently verify the safety filings labs already submit to the state under SB 53, and verify on an ongoing basis that a "kill switch", an emergency shutoff for frontier models, actually works.

"Fathom has long believed that an ecosystem of transparent, effective, and independent verification organizations (IVOs) will be a central pillar of making sure AI is safe for the world. Today we're seeing California turn what was once a policy idea into a real-life regulatory structure to keep people safe as this technology advances."

"Fathom sponsored California's first-in-nation independent verification law because it lays out the accountability and independence IVOs need to effectively govern AI. Today's EO gets California there faster and looks at other places where independent checks could make AI safer. This is real progress, and we're excited to continue this work not just in California but with our policymakers across the country who are working hard to bring IVOs to life the right way."

– Andrew Freedman, Fathom CEO and Co-Founder

SB 813 ensures IVOs are accountable to the public and the state, and independent from the companies they assess. Government sets and enforces the criteria for who qualifies as an IVO, with the power to pull that designation. A separate, expert-staffed body, not the IVOs or the labs themselves, sets the standards IVOs are assessed against, and IVO findings are transparent so that anyone, regulators, researchers, the public, can check their work.

About Fathom

Fathom is an independent nonprofit whose mission is to build a governance architecture that helps society navigate the transition to a world with AI by fostering trust, safety, and innovation. Fathom has developed and championed the independent verification model for AI and works with policymakers across the country to put it into practice. Learn more at http://fathom.org.

Latham Expands Market-Leading Antitrust & Competition Practice with Paris Partner Victor Levy

Arrival further strengthens the firm's premier Antitrust & Competition Practice in Europe and enhances its unrivalled global platform.

PARIS, Sept. 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Latham & Watkins is pleased to announce that Victor Levy has joined the firm's Paris office as partner in its Antitrust & Competition Practice. Levy advises on competition law matters, with particular experience in merger control filings before the European Commission, the French Competition Authority, and other competition authorities globally, as well as complex antitrust investigations and follow-on damages claims before competition authorities and Courts.

Levy has extensive experience across sectors including aerospace and defense, consumer goods, and industrials.

"We are thrilled to welcome Victor to the firm," said Thomas Margenet-Baudry, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in Paris. "Our Paris office is a powerhouse in the French market, with exceptional strength across our transactional and regulatory practices. Antitrust and competition is central to that success, an essential component of our market-leading transactional and litigation platforms and a formidable go-to practice. Victor brings deep experience in complex domestic and cross-border antitrust matters for French and international clients that complements our existing strengths and further enhances the sophisticated, integrated advice we provide to clients in France, across Europe, and globally. His arrival reflects our ambition to continue investing in the very best talents and to remain at the forefront of the market for years to come."

Latham's Antitrust & Competition Practice is widely recognized as one of the world's premier antitrust platforms, delivering sophisticated, coordinated advice across the United States, Europe, and Asia. The firm advises and represents clients on many of their most significant and complex global transactions, cartel investigations, and disputes, combining deep antitrust experience with market-leading litigation and trial capabilities. The Paris competition practice, like that of the Brussels office, is ranked Band 1 / Tier 1 in the legal directories. The addition of Levy further strengthens the firm's European and Paris bench and enhances its ability to guide clients through an increasingly complex and interconnected global competition and regulatory landscape.

"The addition of Victor underscores the continued strength and momentum of our global practice," said Lawrence Buterman, Global Chair of Latham's Antitrust & Competition Practice. "Our platform brings together leading antitrust lawyers across the United States, Europe, and Asia who are increasingly called upon by our clients to lead and coordinate representations on complex transactions and litigation matters spanning multiple jurisdictions. Victor brings outstanding credentials and deep experience that will further strengthen our ability to deliver integrated and global solutions at the highest level."

"We have known Victor for many years and have long held him in the highest regard," said Jacques-Philippe Gunther, Antitrust & Competition partner in Paris. "He is definitely one of the best of his generation, and his unique combination of economic and legal expertise makes him a real additional strength to our talented team."

Paris Antitrust & Competition partner, Adrien Giraud also commented: "Victor brings extensive experience across merger control, foreign investment screening, antitrust investigations, litigation, and State aid. At a time when antitrust and regulatory considerations are playing a critical role in shaping strategic business decisions, his arrival further enhances the breadth and depth of our offering in Paris."

"I am delighted to join Latham & Watkins in Paris, especially at this critical time when competition authorities are becoming increasingly active and coordinated across jurisdictions. The firm's global platform and market-leading capabilities provide an exceptional opportunity to help clients navigate their most complex matters," said Levy. "I look forward to working closely with the teams across practices and geographies to further develop Latham's antitrust and competition offering."

Levy joins Latham & Watkins from Hogan Lovells Cadwalader. He holds a Master's degree in Mathematics from the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon, a Master's degree in European Business Law from Paris Panthéon-Assas University, and an LL.M. from New York University School of Law. He is admitted to practice in Paris and New York.

CONWAY, S.C., Sept. 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) Area Commission has selected Lori A. Heafner, Ph.D., as the next president of Horry-Georgetown Technical College following a comprehensive national search.

The Area Commission made its selection during a special-called meeting Friday, Sept. 18, following finalist visits and public forums held on the Conway Campus. Heafner will assume the presidency Jan. 4, 2027.

"The Area Commission entered this national search determined to identify the leader best prepared to build upon HGTC's strong foundation and guide the college confidently into the future," said Robert P. Hucks, II, chairman of the HGTC Area Commission and Presidential Search Committee. "Lori distinguished herself through her depth of experience, knowledge of higher education, commitment to students and understanding of the communities we serve. She knows this college and our region and has demonstrated throughout her career an ability to bring people together around a shared commitment to student success and institutional excellence. We are confident in her ability to lead HGTC forward."

Heafner currently serves as vice president for academic affairs at HGTC and has more than 25 years of experience in higher education, including 20 years at HGTC. Her leadership experience spans academic affairs, institutional effectiveness, strategic planning, accreditation, grants, assessment and community and workforce partnerships.

Throughout her career, Heafner has helped advance academic and workforce pathways, transfer opportunities, dual enrollment and early college partnerships, and collaborations with K-12 schools, universities, health care organizations, businesses and community leaders. She previously served as HGTC's vice president for institutional effectiveness and development and has also served as an adjunct instructor.

A community college graduate, Heafner began her higher education career at Cleveland Community College before joining HGTC in 2006. She earned a doctorate in educational sciences with a concentration in higher education administration from Coastal Carolina University.

The Area Commission's selection followed a comprehensive national search conducted with assistance from the Association of Community College Trustees. Three finalists were invited to HGTC for campus visits and public forums, providing faculty, administrators, staff, students and members of the community an opportunity to hear from the candidates and provide feedback.

"I am deeply honored to be selected as the next president of Horry-Georgetown Technical College," Heafner said. "For 20 years, HGTC has been an important part of my life, and I have had the privilege of working alongside extraordinary faculty and staff who are deeply committed to our students and communities. I am grateful for the confidence of the Area Commission and excited to build upon the college's strong foundation as we expand opportunities for our students, strengthen our partnerships and continue meeting the changing educational and workforce needs of our region."

Phillip Schermer, Project Healthy Minds Founder and CEO, said: "Mental health is not one issue among many facing modern culture. It's the thread running through every other question we're asking about who we are and where we're going." He added, "You cannot understand this century through its technology, politics, or economics alone. You have to understand its mindset. That is what we gather to do: put the loneliness epidemic and the return of the run club on the same stage, because they're the same story told twice. Once as the wound, once as the healing. And we do it free and open to anyone, because you don't need a diagnosis to belong in this room."

Gala host and Project Healthy Minds Board of Directors member Carson Daly added: "Every fall, this community reminds me why I keep showing up for this work. The Festival and Gala have grown into something bigger than an event. They're proof that when people talk openly about mental health, real change follows. I'm honored to serve on this Board and grateful to everyone who gives their time, energy and resources to keep this movement going."

Past Festival and Gala participants and honorees have included Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Demi Lovato, Sophia Bush, Arianna Huffington, Katie Couric, Chance the Rapper, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, Sanaa Lathan, Dr. Becky Kennedy and more.

EPB Launches IonQ Forte Enterprise Quantum Computer in Chattanooga

Milestone makes EPB Quantum Center SM America's first commercial quantum computing and networking hub

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., Sept. 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- EPB today launched the IonQ Forte Enterprise quantum computer at EPB Quantum Center℠, bringing commercial quantum computing and networking together in one facility for the first time. The milestone further positions Chattanooga as the most comprehensive resource in the U.S. for commercializing real-world quantum solutions. Companies can develop, test and deploy quantum technologies here with access to advanced quantum infrastructure and a growing network of development partners, including the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) and Vanderbilt University.

"Today's launch represents another major step in the growth of a quantum ecosystem found only in Chattanooga," said Vicky Gregg, Chair of the EPB Board of Directors. "Just as EPB's decision to launch the world's first community-wide gig-speed internet shaped our community's future back in 2010, this milestone carries forward our strategy of building advanced infrastructure that enhances the way we serve our customers while opening new economic opportunity for our community."

"EPB and IonQ have built something unique. This Forte Enterprise system complements EPB's quantum networking capabilities, laying the foundation for a full suite of applications for quantum communications and commercialization for their clients," said Niccolo de Masi, Chairman and CEO of IonQ. "Together, we're creating a first-of-its-kind environment where organizations can explore quantum applications today and help shape the opportunities this technology will create tomorrow."

Putting Local Customers and University Partners First

As part of EPB's commitment to benefiting its customers, the EPB Quantum Computing Fellows will be the first to use the new quantum computer, so they can run the quantum algorithms they have been developing to further optimize local power grid circuits. Funded by a $4 million grant from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the initiative has brought eight graduate researchers with expertise ranging from quantum information science to physics and engineering from all over the U.S. to Chattanooga. The effort focuses on finding ways to further optimize the operation of EPB's advanced, highly automated power grid to reduce costs and enhance resilience for the benefit of local customers.

Starting in early October, EPB Quantum ComputingSM will be open for business. UTC will be the first customer, beginning with research the university is already prepared to run. EPB is also working with Vanderbilt to line up its first project.

"Access to a quantum computer is rare and valuable," said Janet Rehberg, CEO of EPB. "We're starting with our own work to directly benefit our customers while also prioritizing the universities that are investing to expand quantum education, workforce development and research right here in Chattanooga."

Opening New Opportunities for Local Economic Growth

Driven by EPB's mission of enhancing quality of life for the people it serves, Chattanooga's quantum infrastructure is already drawing new investment, creating new jobs and supporting major expansions in university academics and research in the city. The investments announced in Chattanooga since EPB Quantum began installing the new quantum computer are projected to expand the local economy by adding hundreds of researchers, faculty, staff and students.

- IonQ is investing $15 million to establish the Tennessee Quantum Communications Research Center in Chattanooga, with plans to create approximately two dozen jobs, including quantum scientists and highly skilled researchers.

- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, which in 2023 became the first American university to connect to a commercial quantum network, is expanding its quantum programs with plans to add 135 to 240 faculty, staff and students.

- Vanderbilt University is partnering with EPB to launch the Institute for Quantum Innovation, which will anchor Vanderbilt's Chattanooga quantum innovation campus with approximately 250 researchers, faculty and staff.

- Hybrid Computing Project: In tandem with the EPB Quantum Fellows project funded by NIST, EPB, IonQ, Oak Ridge National Laboratory and NVIDIA have installed a classical supercomputer within the EPB Quantum Center, and they are collaborating on a hybrid computing project that combines quantum and high-performance classical computing to optimize portions of EPB's advanced automated electric grid and evaluate future applications for increasingly complex energy systems.

To further build on these gains, EPB is hosting the Quantum in Business (QiB) conference on October 1 with more than 400 business leaders, researchers and policymakers from across the U.S. gathering in Chattanooga to learn how companies can benefit from a projected $2.7 trillion in economic value by utilizing quantum computing in the near term while developing the expertise they need to lead their industries as quantum technology advances. The conference is especially targeted to business leaders in the insurance, logistics, automotive and manufacturing, financial, healthcare and chemicals industries, which are projected to gain tremendous value from quantum technology.

"Becoming the first U.S. hub to offer commercially available quantum computing and quantum networking under one roof is a milestone," said Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly. "Just as EPB's fiber network made us a leader in the digital economy, EPB Quantum Center is attracting investment and talent by deploying a technology that is expected to shape industries and economies for decades to come. Over the next decade alone, EPB's quantum initiatives are projected to generate up to $1.1 billion in economic gains for Chattanooga."

How EPB Quantum prepares local people for the quantum jobs of the future

Developing a quantum workforce begins long before students enter college. Through partnerships with local schools, universities and industry leaders, Chattanooga is building a talent pipeline that introduces students to quantum and advanced technology careers at every stage of their education. Combined with EPB's unique commercial quantum infrastructure, these initiatives are helping prepare local people for opportunities emerging in the rapidly growing quantum industry while giving companies new reasons to invest, expand and create jobs in Hamilton County.

- Franklin-Roberts Future Ready Center: EPB and Hamilton County Schools announced the Energy and Quantum Industries Academy, a new program expected to serve approximately 400 high school students annually beginning in 2028. The academy will provide hands-on experience in engineering, cybersecurity, energy systems, communications infrastructure and quantum science.

- TN QuantumWorks: The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development recently selected Hamilton County Schools to pilot a statewide K-12 quantum education initiative designed to introduce students to quantum concepts and build pathways into future quantum careers.

"Our goal is to make sure every person in Hamilton County has an opportunity to benefit from the investments being made in our community," said Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp. "With hundreds of high school students set to train through the Energy and Quantum Industries Academy at Franklin-Roberts Future Ready Center, we're giving young people a chance to see themselves as part of the next generation of quantum innovation."

Five-minute walkthrough shows engineers and contractors how overhead power connects and adapts as equipment layouts change.

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- USA TrackBusway® has released a new T225 installation video to help engineers, electrical contractors and facility teams evaluate overhead power for changing equipment layouts. The five-minute walkthrough shows how the company's 225A-per-phase track busway is assembled, connected and fitted with compatible plug-in power units.

Watch the T225 installation video.

The resource follows the company's June 2026 announcement of T225 availability. It gives project teams a closer look at how the system's parts work together, from suspending a straight run to positioning power connections near equipment. It is intended for teams planning manufacturing rows, robotics cells, laboratories, logistics facilities and suitable data center equipment zones.

"Engineers and contractors need to see how a system fits together before they can judge it for a project," said Michael Gellert, President, USA TrackBusway. "This video walks through the T225 installation sequence and shows how compatible power connections can be repositioned as equipment layouts change."

Four stages, from suspension to equipment connections

- Hanging: See how suspension hardware supports and aligns the straight busway sections.

- Joining: Follow the mechanical and electrical connections between adjacent T225 sections.

- Feeding: See how the end feed connects to the busway run.

- Tap-off units: Watch compatible plug-in power connections being installed and repositioned along the run.

T225 provides continuous plug-in access along the busway. Compatible tap-off units bring power from the overhead run to equipment at selected locations. This lets project teams plan point-of-use power around their layout and review options when equipment moves or needs change.

Video and planning resources in one place

The dedicated watch page links to the T225 installation and operation manual, system information, feed and tap-off options, and technical resources. Engineers and contractors can use these materials to review system components and discuss project requirements with USA TrackBusway.

The video supplements the system manual. Qualified personnel must follow the T225 manual and applicable electrical procedures for installation and reconfiguration.

Project teams can request complimentary layout support to discuss a proposed Track Busway layout.

University of Phoenix study finds GenAI use among online adult learners associated with academic performance and technology confidence

Peer-reviewed research challenges assumptions that students primarily use generative AI to compensate for academic difficulty or time pressure.

PHOENIX, Sept. 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- University of Phoenix scholars have published new peer-reviewed research examining how non-traditional undergraduate students use generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in online higher education. The study found that more frequent GenAI use was significantly associated with higher academic performance and stronger confidence in technology skills, while lower confidence in reading, writing and math and greater time demands from work, study or family responsibilities did not significantly predict use.

The article, "Strategic Integration or Skill Compensation? Understanding GenAI Use in Online Higher Education," was published June 30, 2026, in Artificial Intelligence in Education, 2(1), 205–223. The research was conducted by fellows and scholars affiliated with the University's Center for Educational and Instructional Technology Research (CEITR): Jessica Sylvester, EdD; Melinda Kulick, EdD; Leonidas Maganares, EdD; and Stella Smith, PhD, associate university research chair.

Researchers surveyed 491 non-traditional undergraduate students enrolled in online general education courses. Of those surveyed, 43.2%, or 212 students, reported using GenAI tools such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot or Gemini in their coursework.

Sylvester and Kulick previously presented findings from the research at the 2025 Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) International Convention; a summary of that presentation, "Transforming Higher Education: Harnessing Generative AI for Student Engagement," was subsequently published in The Journal of Applied Instructional Design.

GenAI use linked to academic performance and digital confidence

Multiple regression analysis identified two statistically significant predictors of how frequently students used GenAI:

- Higher GPA: Students with stronger academic performance reported more frequent GenAI use.

- Greater technology confidence: Students who felt more confident in their technology skills also reported using GenAI more frequently.

- Academic confidence: Confidence in reading, writing and math did not significantly predict GenAI use.

- Time demands: Hours spent studying, working or meeting family responsibilities were not significantly related to GenAI use.

Among students who reported using GenAI, 91.1% had a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and 68.9% earned a 4.0 in the course in which they reported using GenAI.

"These findings complicate the assumption that students primarily turn to generative AI because they are struggling academically or simply looking to save time," said Sylvester, senior manager of College Operations at University of Phoenix and lead author of the study. "Instead, we found GenAI use associated with stronger academic performance and digital confidence. That points to an important opportunity for higher education to help all learners develop the digital fluency, critical judgment and ethical awareness needed to engage with AI effectively."

Students describe GenAI as a tool for understanding and idea development

Open-ended responses from the 212 students who reported using GenAI provided additional context about how they incorporated the technology into their coursework. The three most prominent themes were:

- improving understanding and clarifying complex concepts

- using GenAI as a "thinking partner" or learning aid for brainstorming and organizing ideas

- increasing efficiency and productivity in academic tasks.

Students also identified concerns about the accuracy and originality of AI-generated content, preservation of their individual academic voice and uncertainty about appropriate use under academic integrity policies.

The researchers suggest the findings support a shift from approaches focused primarily on restricting AI toward clearer guidance that develops GenAI literacy, critical evaluation skills and transparent, ethical use. The study recommends incorporating AI literacy across disciplines, creating assignments that encourage students to critique and reflect on AI-generated information and providing consistent institutional guidance about appropriate use.

Because the research used a cross-sectional, correlational design and a non-probability sample from one online university, the findings do not establish that GenAI use causes stronger academic performance and should not be generalized to all college students. The authors recommend longitudinal and multi-institutional research to examine how patterns of GenAI use evolve and whether AI-supported learning affects longer-term academic outcomes.
