Institute for Molecular Medicine and Nuravax Announce First Participants Dosed in Phase 1 TAURUS-1980 Study of AV-1980R
Image File
Original HTML

Groundbreaking randomized study will evaluate safety, tolerability, and immune responses to the investigational preventive tau vaccine in up to 48 cognitively unimpaired individuals with confirmed brain amyloid pathology who are at risk of Alzheimer's.

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif., Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Institute for Molecular Medicine (IMM) and Nuravax today announced that the first four participants have been dosed in TAURUS-1980, a Phase 1 trial of AV-1980R. This is the world's first active immunotherapy targeting pathological tau, whose accumulation in the brain correlates with all stages of Alzheimer's disease.

AV-1980R is a recombinant protein vaccine based on IMM 's universal MultiTEP platform. It is designed to generate helper T-cell responses to non-self MultiTEP epitopes that support B-cell production of antibodies against an N-terminal tau epitope encompassing the phosphatase-activating domain (PAD).

TAURUS-1980 is a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multiple-dose-escalation study. Up to 48 cognitively unimpaired adults aged 65 to 80 with biomarker evidence of amyloid pathology will be randomized 3:1 to AV-1980R or placebo across three ascending-dose cohorts of 20 micrograms, 60 micrograms, and 180 micrograms. Participants receive intramuscular injections at Weeks 0, 4, 38, and are followed through Week 58. The primary objective is safety and tolerability; secondary objectives assess anti-tau antibody and T-cell responses. Exploratory assessments include plasma Alzheimer disease biomarkers, tau PET imaging, and cognitive measures.

"This study asks a focused Phase 1 question: can active tau vaccination be given safely and generate the intended immune response before cognitive symptoms emerge?" said Lon S. Schneider, M.D., a principal investigator at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. "To our knowledge, TAURUS-1980 is the first clinical study of an active tau vaccine in preclinical Alzheimer's disease. If the results support further development, later trials can test effects on biomarkers and clinical progression."

IMM sponsors the trial, which is supported by the National Institute on Aging (NIA), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), through a $24.5 million grant program AG092924. The study is being conducted under U.S. Food and Drug Administration Investigational New Drug application (IND) 29644 and is registered at ClinicalTrials.gov as NCT07158905.

"Dosing the sentinel cohort marks an important clinical milestone for AV-1980R and the MultiTEP platform," said Michael G. Agadjanyan, Ph.D., contact principal investigator of the NIH-supported program, professor of Immunology at IMM, and co-inventor of AV-1980R. "The safety and immunogenicity data from TAURUS-1980 are intended to guide the design of larger proof-of-concept preventive efficacy studies in preclinical Alzheimer's disease individuals who are at risk of dementia."

Image File
Original HTML

Intravesical administration of the Bisphosphocin® Nu-8 to rodents infected with E. coli demonstrated up to 97% inhibition of E. coli growth compared to no effect in a vehicle control group.

SARASOTA, Fla., Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Lakewood-Amedex Biotherapeutics Inc., (NASDAQ: LABT, the "Company"), a clinical-stage biotechnology company advancing a novel class of potent, fast-acting, broad-spectrum antimicrobials for infectious diseases called the Bisphosphocin® class, today announced positive preclinical data in urinary tract infection (UTI) and pulmonary infection indications in animal models treated with Bisphosphocin® compounds.

In an animal model of UTI, intravesical administration of the Bisphosphocin® compound Nu-8 in rodents infected with E. coli resulted in up to 97% inhibition of E. coli growth with a 10% solution compared to no effect in a vehicle control group. In addition, the Bisphosphocin® class has demonstrated in vitro activity against a broad range of resistant bacteria, including those frequently found in UTI such as E. coli, K. pneumoniae, and P. aeruginosa, and has also demonstrated activity against biofilm-forming organisms. Complicated UTIs, especially catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI), are frequently caused by drug-resistant bacteria and bacterial biofilm.

Bisphosphocin® compounds, when administered as an aerosol formulation, have also demonstrated in vivo activity in animal models of pulmonary infections caused by Acinetobacter species, P. aeruginosa, and A. fumigatus. Additionally, the Bisphosphocin® class has demonstrated in vitro activity against a broad range of resistant bacteria frequently found in pulmonary infections such as H. influenzae, K. pneumoniae, and P. aeruginosa.

Pulmonary infections, such as community acquired bronchial pneumonia (CABP), hospital acquired bronchial pneumonia (HABP), and ventilator acquired bronchial pneumonia (VABP), are frequently caused by drug resistant bacteria. In addition, patients with cystic fibrosis have recurrent bacterial and fungal lung infections with organisms such as P. aeruginosa and A. fumigatus.

"We continue to be encouraged by the performance of different members of the Bisphosphocin® class of compounds when tested against various bacterial species, which are known to have a major impact on human health and are key contributors to the AMR crisis," said Kelvin Cooper, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer and Senior Vice President of Research and Development at Lakewood-Amedex Biotherapeutics. "The Bisphosphocin® class of compounds possesses key characteristics including rapid and potent antimicrobial action and broad-spectrum activity with no expected resistance development, which could make them valuable assets in fighting the AMR crisis. We look forward to continuing development of the various Bisphosphocin® compounds to identify the most suitable candidate to be advanced into early clinical development."

Lakewood-Amedex Biotherapeutics' lead Bisphosphocin® candidate, Nu-3 formulated as a topical gel, is being studied in an ongoing Phase 2a trial of mildly infected diabetic foot ulcers (iDFU), with topline data expected in the first quarter of 2027.

X-Bow Awarded Nearly $70M to Develop Advanced Booster for Future Navy Missiles

Award funds development, qualification, and tooling for a high-rate production line in Texas

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- X-Bow Systems Inc (X-Bow®), a U.S. non-traditional manufacturer of solid rocket motors (SRMs), today announced it has been awarded a prototype agreement worth nearly $70 million to develop and qualify a solid rocket motor booster for a key U.S. Navy next-generation weapon, a program central to addressing future surface warfare challenges.

The award is the latest of six new propulsion programs X-Bow has been selected for in 2026, spanning the Navy, Army, and the Missile Defense Agency. This builds on the company's recently completed first major production contract, which delivered more than 2,100 combat-ready rocket motors—a tangible demonstration of the 'production is deterrence' capacity the nation needs.

"To be the Arsenal of Freedom, we must first break the decades-old bottleneck in solid rocket motor production," said Jason Hundley, Founder and CEO of X-Bow Systems. "This award is a clear signal the Pentagon is investing in advanced manufacturing to solve that problem, and we are ready to deliver the affordable, mass-producible propulsion our nation needs."

Administered by U.S. Army Contracting Command – Rock Island, the agreement has a total potential value of $69.7 million. It comprises a $50.4 million Phase 1 development effort and a $19.3 million Phase 2 qualification option, with $50 million obligated at award to incrementally fund the 12-month Phase 1 effort.

The program replaces single-purpose interceptors with a common architecture, including variants that pack more interceptors into each launch system. The Navy plans to field an initial capability in early FY 2031.

X-Bow will execute the program across its advanced manufacturing and R&D facilities in California, New Mexico, and Texas. The agreement funds rate tooling for a production line of up to 500 motors per year at the company's Luling, Texas, site, leveraging X-Bow's Modular Motor Architecture.

About X-Bow Systems

X-Bow is solving the nation's munitions crisis by breaking the 50-year bottleneck in solid rocket motor (SRM) production. The company leverages its proprietary additive manufacturing to produce affordable, scalable SRMs that power a new generation of missiles, interceptors, and space launch vehicles. Reflecting strong demand, the company's revenue and backlog have more than doubled since 2023. Backed by prominent aerospace and venture capital investors, the company is headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with advanced manufacturing and test sites across the country. Bright Path Receives 2026 AZBio Fast Lane Award for Rapid Progress Reshoring America's Medicines

Arizona's bioscience community honors the Mesa manufacturer's momentum over the past 18 months, from a first-of-its-kind FDA designation to American-made production of hospital medicines in chronic shortage

MESA, Ariz., Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Bright Path, a U.S. pharmaceutical manufacturer, has been named a 2026 AZBio Fast Lane Award honoree by the Arizona Bioindustry Association (AZBio). The award recognizes Arizona bioscience companies that have reached significant milestones and demonstrated exceptional momentum over the past 18 months. Honorees are nominated by members of Arizona's bioscience community and selected by independent judges. Bright Path will be honored today at the 23rd Annual AZBio Awards at the Phoenix Convention Center, a signature event of Arizona Bioscience Week.

"Arizona is where we proved that essential medicines can be made in America again," said Tony Quinones, Founder and CEO of Bright Path. "Our team in Mesa takes base chemicals and turns them into finished medicine in hours, start to finish in the United States, at prices that compete with China and India. This award belongs to them, and it tells every hospital, distributor and policymaker watching that the road back to American-made medicine runs through Arizona."

Over the past 18 months, Bright Path has moved from federal research programs to committed commercial production. In August, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted the company an Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMT) designation, the first for a small-molecule drug manufacturing technology. The designation covers Bright Path's end-to-end U.S. production of carboplatin, a commonly used chemotherapy drug, and lidocaine, a local anesthetic widely used in hospitals and emergency care. Both medicines are on the FDA drug shortage list. During the same period, the company met every contract milestone across three successive awards under the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) EQUIP-A-Pharma program. The entirety of its initial production is already committed under contract to healthcare customers through a distribution network reaching 48 states.

At the center of the platform is the company's patented Spinning Tube-in-Tube (STT®) reactor system, designed and built in-house in Mesa. Conventional plants produce medicine in large batches that stop and start over days and weeks. Bright Path instead runs the chemistry as one continuous flow, with software managing quality from raw materials through sterile filling, which is how finished medicine comes off the line in hours, with no chemical ingredients sourced from overseas.

Bright Path's Mesa facility anchors the company's plan to expand into a national network of regional manufacturing hubs serving hospitals, distributors and government customers.

About Bright Path

Bright Path is a U.S.-based advanced pharmaceutical manufacturer headquartered in Mesa, Arizona. The company's patented Spinning Tube-in-Tube (STT®) continuous-flow reactor technology, designed, fabricated and assembled entirely in-house, anchors an end-to-end manufacturing platform spanning key starting materials, active pharmaceutical ingredients, sterile fill-finish and packaging, all inside the United States. The platform is capable of addressing 87% of the World Health Organization's Essential Medicines List and producing more than 13.4 million vials per year at full capacity, with yields averaging 178% higher than conventional batch manufacturing. Bright Path is a direct recipient and partner of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) through the EQUIP-A-Pharma program.

New capability overcomes schedule-based drawback of traditional pen-testing programs

New autonomous capability brings intelligence-led security testing on demand between scheduled penetration tests.

DUBLIN, Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Edgescan announced today the launch of Edgescan Atomic, an autonomous penetration-testing capability built on agentic AI and Edgescan's existing security intelligence. Edgescan Atomic can run on top of Edgescan's existing continuous security platform or run as a stand along Agentic Penetration Testing solution.

Organizations need confidence that they are safe from AI-powered cyber-attacks. Edgescan Atomic is designed to provide the powerful layer of continuous, rapid, on-demand offensive validation that organizations need to verify their posture quickly.

Edgescan Atomic can operate independently, but it becomes significantly more effective when powered by Edgescan Intelligence, including historical scan data, PTaaS results, false positive data, validated vulnerabilities, asset context, authentication workflows, API information, and historical assessment data. This gives Atomic a richer starting point from which to explore and validate potential attack paths.

Atomic delivers proven security intelligence with agentic AI combined with the Edgescan Harness, which controls what the AI can and can't do. The Edgescan Harness enforces defined scope, permissions, approvals and policies, allowing Atomic to reason and adapt like an attacker while keeping its actions controlled and auditable. This gives organizations a way to use autonomous penetration testing without giving up oversight.

Edgescan Atomic delivers:

- Faster validation for security teams. They can launch autonomous testing immediately, delivering deep assessment using previous target metadata if available. Validation is via the agentic validation team and our human experts if required.

- Deeper coverage, with less noise, for security operations and AppSec teams. Atomic is designed to identify business-logic and access-control vulnerabilities such as insecure direct object reference (IDOR ), authorization weakness and broken access control, while validating findings with evidence before they reach analysts, reducing investigation and triage workloads.

- Predictable cost with greater control. The licensing model provides a defined testing budget, while the Harness enforces scope, logs and policy-enforces AI actions.

Eoin Keary, CEO, Edgescan, said: "Edgescan Atomic addresses a fundamental limitation of traditional penetration testing: the AI-powered threat environment and the rate of application code change. Atomic gives customers the power to launch autonomous penetration testing whenever they need it, putting more control, greater flexibility, and faster security validation directly in their hands."

About Edgescan

Edgescan is a cybersecurity leader providing continuous application and network security testing for mature enterprise security teams. Delivering the full spectrum of Penetration Testing as a Service (PTaaS), from automated vulnerability scanning to expert-led penetration tests, Edgescan combines AI-powered automation with human validation to deliver continuous visibility with unmatched accuracy. Whirl AI Introduces the Integrated Business Environment (IBE), a New Category of AI Built for Enterprise IT
Image File
Original HTML

Inspired By IDE For Developers, CIO's Organization Gets Its Own Purpose-Built Environment To Understand, Change, And Evolve The Systems That Run The Business, Revolutionizing Enterprise Efficiency

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Whirl AI (www.whirlai.com) today introduced the Integrated Business Environment (IBE), a new category of AI built for enterprise IT. Whirl's IBE gives the CIO's organization the context, workflows, and collaboration tools it needs to understand, change, and improve the systems of record at the center of the business: CRM, ERP, HRIS, ITSM, and the integrations that connect them.

Every core business process in a modern enterprise runs through these systems, and IT is the only function with visibility across all of them. But that visibility is still manual and reactive. When a business leader asks why an approval is stalling, what would break if a Salesforce automation changed, or how forecasting should be redesigned after a sales reorganization, IT can't simply look up the answer. Teams have to rebuild it by hand from configurations, metadata, integrations, custom code, tickets, and institutional knowledge. As a result, IT spends most of its time working through tickets and change requests instead of leading transformation.

"Every department has had its AI productivity moment, and IT has been the one making those moments happen for everyone else, without getting one of its own," said Sunny Bedi, Founder and CEO of Whirl AI. "The systems IT owns are the fabric the entire business runs on. When IT gets faster at understanding and evolving those systems, every transformation initiative in the company speeds up."

Five pillars of the IBE

Whirl defines the IBE by five requirements. It must be purpose-built for every IT persona. It must deliver trust and accuracy, grounded in a system context that no foundation model has on its own. It must provide governed data retention, secure by design to eliminate the "rediscovery tax." It must support cross-functional collaboration. And it must earn workflow lock-in by covering the full IT lifecycle in the environments teams already use.

What CIOs are saying

"I don't need another copilot that guesses. I need a system that knows how my business really works...Whirl is the window into truly understanding how the business operates. Whirl can provide that view of business process and workflow almost instantly."

A Reliable, High-Performance Alternative to Legacy Autopilots: Upbeat Launches Bluemag Pi with Onboard AI

As drone developers look for a dependable alternative to legacy flight controllers, the Bluemag Pi pairs real-time flight-critical performance with onboard AI inference — a combination most incumbent autopilots weren't built to deliver

NEW TAIPEI CITY, Taiwan, Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Upbeat Technology, a pioneer in ultra-low-power compute, voice, and edge AI sensing solutions, today announced the launch of Bluemag Pi, a sensor-integrated AI flight controller built for long-endurance fixed-wing aircraft, commercial multirotor drones, and unmanned surface vessels. The board runs on Upbeat's UP301 system-on-chip, which pairs SiFive's E3 and E2 RISC-V processor cores in a dual-core architecture built for flight-critical applications.

The UP301's multicore architecture separates time-critical flight tasks from communication, navigation, and system-management functions, improving responsiveness and reliability. The board provides ample RAM, nonvolatile storage, hardware floating-point capability, timers, direct memory access (DMA), and interrupt resources to support advanced flight operations. Bluemag Pi runs the Apache NuttX real-time operating system and is compatible with the industry's leading open-source flight-control stacks, including PX4, ArduPilot, and Betaflight.

The launch comes as the global drone market accelerates. According to Grand View Research, the market was valued at approximately $96.4 billion in 2026 and projected to reach $182.4 billion by 2033, growing at roughly a 9.5% compound annual rate, driven by AI-enabled, long-endurance platforms in agriculture, infrastructure inspection, logistics, and defense. That growth has outpaced the flight-controller market's ability to keep up: most widely used autopilots still run on general-purpose processors with no dedicated AI acceleration, leaving drone makers to bolt on a separate companion computer just to add onboard intelligence. Bluemag Pi is designed to close that gap, giving developers a single, reliable board built for both flight-critical control and AI inference.

Bluemag Pi pairs two independent inertial measurement units (IMUs), a barometer, and dual global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers with sensor-fusion software that continuously cross-checks their readings. As a result, the board produces dependable altitude, attitude, and velocity estimates even if a single sensor drifts or fails. For connectivity, the board streams telemetry to a ground station or companion computer over a standard MAVLink radio link, accepts input from common remote-control receivers, and drives motors through an integrated four-in-one electronic speed controller for precise throttle response. Additional interfaces support expansion sensors and peripherals, and onboard storage continuously logs flight data for diagnostics, tuning, and post-flight analysis.

"We chose Upbeat's Bluemag Pi flight control board over standard solutions because it's remarkably easy to integrate yet built with the real-time performance and robust feature set advanced drone development demands. That combination of dependable performance and comprehensive capabilities has made it the right platform for building sophisticated UAV solutions," said Steven Yen, Founder and CEO, Drone Dynamics.

Bluemag Pi is available as a standard board that fully supports secondary development, allowing engineers to implement their own custom flight algorithms. Alternatively, customers looking to design their own proprietary carrier boards can purchase the UP301 chip directly. With suitable hardware and firmware integration, the UP301 platform supports manual, stabilized, altitude-hold, position-hold, mission, return-to-home, and autonomous flight modes. Bluemag Pi is available for purchase now on the Upbeat Technology website.

"Flight control is one of the toughest tests for any processor architecture, hard real-time guarantees, built-in redundancy, and now onboard AI, all on a tight power budget. Leveraging both SiFive's E3 and E2 Essential RISC-V CPU IP Complexes lets Upbeat dedicate one core to flight-critical control and the other to AI and system tasks, without either one compromising the other. Bluemag Pi proves RISC-V is ready for more than edge AI, it's ready for the real-time, safety-critical systems that autonomous flight depends on," said Martyn Stroeve, Vice President, SiFive.

Upbeat will demonstrate the Bluemag Pi drone flight controller at CEATEC 2026, Japan's largest annual electronics and IT trade show, October 13–16 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. Attendees can experience its real-time performance and onboard AI inference at booth 7H215-01. The Upbeat team will also showcase its humanoid robotic hands, headphones, and other new products. Click here to schedule a meeting at the booth. Moreover, Upbeat will also be attending TAITRONICS & AIoT Taiwan, October 20–22 at booth J0102.

Upbeat's robotics work was recognized this year with the Robot Intelligent Mobility System Excellence Award — guided by the Industrial Development Agency of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and jointly organized by the Precision Machinery Research and Development Center and the Taiwan Smart Automation and Robotics Association — for its MEMS Edge AI Module for Robot Health Monitoring and Tactile Friction Sensing, which lets equipment "hear" abnormal sounds and flag failing components before they break down, at extremely low power. Upbeat is now extending that same sensing platform beyond UAVs into humanoid robotics, demonstrating tactile and vibration sensing in robotic hands and feet that detects grip slippage, surface friction, and ground contact in real time.

Longtime Commonwealth advisor finds a familiar culture within Cetera's Summit Financial Networks

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Cetera welcomes Financial Advisor Cynthia Doussard and her practice, Doussard Financial, overseeing approximately $235 million in AUA1, to Cetera's unique Summit Financial Networks2 community.

Based in Burlington, Washington, Doussard has spent nearly 30 years in the industry, including more than two decades with Commonwealth Financial Network. She is joined by two dedicated support staff, along with a third team member currently working toward her securities license with the goal of becoming the firm's second financial advisor.

Doussard Financial serves clients throughout Northwest Washington, and has grown primarily through referrals, with its strong ties to the region's oil refinery community. Doussard and her team focus on retirement income planning, including pension and 401(k) rollover guidance for clients preparing for or already living in retirement.

Doussard noted that her practice is grounded in business basics, saying: "People just want someone to treat them fairly – they want to be able to trust someone, and we do most of our client work face to face. That's the way I like to do business. They can pop in any time, and if there's something they need, we'll take care of it."

Doussard was affiliated with Commonwealth for 24 years and wasn't looking to move: "If Commonwealth wouldn't have sold to LPL, I never would have left," she said.

When Commonwealth announced that it would be acquired by LPL Financial, Doussard, like many former Commonwealth advisors, began looking for a partner that could offer the same responsive, personal service she had come to expect. Over the course of a year, she received many inquiries from recruiters and broker-dealers, but patiently and intentionally kept searching for the right fit.

After seeing several of her Commonwealth peers join Cetera, she decided to "keep going in that direction" as she sought the same kind of relationship she enjoyed with Commonwealth.

"As advisors, we're the client, and I see Cetera wanting to support us and take care of what we need, while leaving the business decisions up to me, and that's what I wanted to maintain after leaving Commonwealth," she said.

In welcoming Doussard, Cetera Advisor Channel Leader Tom Halloran said, "Cynthia has earned the trust of tough blue-collar workers whose financial means come from doing difficult and dangerous jobs. The faith those clients put in Cynthia and her team is remarkable, and we're honored she chose Cetera to support her with her client-service mission."
