How Nevada won the West’s top DMV customer service award

Nevada’s DMV just won AAMVA’s Region 4 Customer Convenience Award, and the numbers explain why. After shifting rural offices to appointment-only service, average wait times dropped from 78 minutes to 18. That’s a 77% reduction, powered by WaitWell’s queueing and appointment system. See how Nevada built the win, office by office.

The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles has won the Customer Convenience Award for AAMVA Region 4. AAMVA gives the award to one agency in each of its four regions every year. Region 4 covers 22 jurisdictions across the western U.S. and western Canada, from Alaska and California to Alberta and Saskatchewan. Nevada earned it by rebuilding how its rural offices serve customers.

For the six months before those offices shifted to appointment-only service, the average wait was 78 minutes. For the six months after, it was 18 minutes. That is a 60-minute reduction, or a decrease of roughly 77%.

WaitWell is proud to power the appointment and queue system behind that change.

Amber Galperin, Fiscal Manager at the Nevada DMV, sums up what that partnership has looked like:

“WaitWell has been a tremendous vendor, from implementation and continuing enhancing our system as we modernize. WaitWell has a team of valued employees that are always there for us and understand DMV processes. We value our partnership and collaboration with WaitWell.”

AAMVA asks for customer endorsement, and Nevada had it from both sides of the counter. DMV Director Tonya Laney has been direct about the impact. On the rural rollout:

“It has only been a month since our last batch of rural offices shifted to appointment-only services and we’ve noticed monumentally positive impacts.”

On the earlier statewide implementation, she put it plainly:

“Ever since our implementation of WaitWell last year, our offices have been operating more smoothly and efficiently, which are great wins for everyone.”

Laney has also made the point that appointments let the agency measure every transaction down to the minute. That turns customer service from a feeling into something a director can manage.

Customers noticed too. One person leaving the Reno office told a local news crew there was no line and the whole thing ran on their phone. DMV spokesperson Hailey Foster framed the goal the same way from the agency side: people should be able to get their errands done instead of spending the day physically waiting in an office.

An hour is not a tweak to a schedule or a fresh coat of paint on a lobby. It is a change in what a DMV visit costs a person. In rural Nevada, where a trip to the office can mean an hour of highway before you even park, the difference between an afternoon lost and an errand finished is not a small thing.

What the Customer Convenience Award recognizes

The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators created this award for agencies that improve the processes customers actually touch. Not internal efficiency. Not back-office modernization. The parts of the experience a resident feels standing at a counter or sitting in a lobby.

AAMVA casts a wide net for what counts. Expanding online transactions. Running mobile units. Opening access to vital records. Adding payment options. Staffing greeter and triage stations. Or finding ways to speed up service when the wait runs long.

It is an agency award rather than an individual one, presented to one jurisdiction per region. Region 4 covers 22 jurisdictions across the western United States and Canada, including California, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Alberta and British Columbia. Each agency may submit a single entry, so Nevada had to choose one project from two years of transformation work and put the whole submission behind it. It chose the rural appointment shift.

Judges weigh four things: whether the project improved customer convenience, whether customers actually benefited, whether the outcomes are measurable, and whether customer testimonials endorse the service. An entry has to show the change, back it with data, and point to real people willing to say it worked.

An hour back for every rural customer

Same buildings, same staff, same customers. The only thing that changed was how service was organized.

That change landed hardest where it was needed most. Metro offices have volume, but they also have depth. When a line builds in Las Vegas, there are more counters, more staff and more hours in the day to work through it. Rural offices have none of that cushion. A small team serves a large territory, demand swings hard from one day to the next, and a customer who drove the better part of an hour cannot simply come back tomorrow.

Picture what the shift looks like on the ground. Before, you drove in from a ranch or a small town with no idea what you were walking into. The lobby might be empty, or it might be full, and either way you were committed once you arrived. You cleared your morning for it. You brought a book.

After, you have a time. You know when to leave the house. You get a text if anything changes. If the office runs a few minutes behind, you find that out from your phone instead of a plastic chair.

Long waits are the symptom people notice, but they are rarely the root problem. A long average wait is what happens when demand arrives unpredictably, and nobody can prepare for it. Scheduled service fixed that at the source: staff now know who is coming and what they need, customers stopped guessing, and offices stopped absorbing surges they could not staff for

How Nevada built the win, step by step

Nevada did not flip a switch. The agency tested each change before scaling it.

The work started in early 2024 with a pilot at two offices, South Reno and Fallon. The pilot did what pilots are supposed to do. It proved the model quickly. WaitWell opened up appointment slots that had been locked away by an older system, and wait times fell fast enough that Nevada moved to a full rollout within months.

By April 2024, WaitWell was live across 18 Nevada DMV locations, covering both metro and rural service centers. The most visible change was the appointment backlog. Under the previous system, customers routinely waited two months or more for a slot. After the switch, that dropped to a matter of days.

In 2025, Nevada extended the same approach to drive tests. Scheduling moved online, with secure text confirmations and rescheduling from a single link. Drive tests had been one of the last transactions still running on manual coordination, and unifying them closed a gap that had frustrated both customers and examiners.

Then came the rural transition. In November 2025, Elko, Fallon, Mesquite and Yerington moved to appointment-only service. On December 22, every remaining rural office followed. Nevada limited rural bookings to one day in advance, which keeps offices at manageable capacity and prevents the overbooking that made older systems unworkable. Zip codes are required at booking, so rural slots go to the rural residents they were built for.

What changed inside the offices

Three WaitWell capabilities carried most of the load.

QR code check-in replaced the front-desk bottleneck for both appointments and walk-ins. Customers check themselves in from their phone and enter the queue without waiting to talk to someone just to be told to wait some more.

Virtual queues let customers leave the building. Instead of holding a plastic ticket and watching a wall screen, people can run an errand, sit in their car or grab lunch, then return when they are called. In a rural town, that might mean picking up feed or groceries in the same trip.

Automated text notifications handle reminders, cancellations and rescheduling without staff intervention. Cancelled slots get released back into the pool automatically, which means fewer empty chairs on days when other people are still waiting for an opening.

None of these are exotic features. What made them work was applying them consistently across every office in the state, metro and rural alike, so customers got the same experience no matter which door they walked through.

Where the numbers came from

Figures like 78 minutes and 18 minutes only exist if something is tracking them. WaitWell tracks them by default.

Every transaction carries a timestamp. When a customer checks in, when they are called, how long the service takes, who handled it, which office it happened in. Those records build on their own, day after day, with no one filling out a form. This is what Laney meant about measuring every transaction down to the minute.

WaitWell ships with more than 50 built-in reports. Wait times by office, by hour, by transaction type. Service times by staff member. No-show rates, walkaway counts, appointment fill rates. An agency can pull the exact numbers an award entry, a budget request or a legislative hearing calls for, and pull them back to the day the first office went live.

WaitWell Insights goes further. Ask a question in plain language and get an analyst-level answer back. Why did Elko run long last Tuesday. Which transactions push our afternoon waits past 30 minutes. No report builder, no data team, no waiting a week for someone to run a query.

That is how service keeps improving after the win. Reports show which hours fill up and which offices need more coverage on which days. Staffing follows real demand instead of a guess. A problem shows up as a trend on a chart weeks before it shows up as a line out the door.

Better service and the proof of it come from the same place.

What other agencies can take from Nevada

Nevada turned one of the state’s most complained-about services into a model other jurisdictions now study. Three things made the difference.

They started small and scaled on evidence. Two pilot offices produced the results that justified going statewide, and each expansion after that was earned by the one before it.

They treated rural service as a design problem, not a staffing problem.

What’s new at WaitWell – August 2026

Your monthly roundup of what’s new at WaitWell. This issue covers our biggest release yet, where our team has been on the road, new articles from the blog, and the free live sessions you can join in September.

👋 Hi WaitWell Community,

This month brings a big release, plus a refresh across the app with clearer wording and a cleaner look.

Staff booking links lead the way. Each staff member can create up to 10 per location, and the link opens your booking site with that person already selected, photo and bio included.

Staff scheduling got a major upgrade too. It now opens on a full-week Staff view you can click, drag, and paste your way through.

Everything here is covered briefly, so reach out to your Client Success Manager to go deeper. Further down: where we have been this month, and the story behind Nevada’s award-winning DMV turnaround.

Product updates

This release brings staff booking links, a rebuilt staff scheduling view, better customer records and reporting, and a long list of smaller changes across bookings, queue, and setup.

Links that point straight to your staff

Each staff member can create their own booking links, up to 10 per location. The link opens your booking site with that person already selected, photo and bio included.

- Fix a link to one service, or let the customer pick

- Name it, like “Student advising”

- Set an expiry date, or leave it open

- Turn it off or delete it any time

- See how many times it has been opened

- Copy the link or open its QR code from the list

Staff can also add their own meeting link to their profile, now in its own section under account preferences. When they are assigned to a ticket, that link gets used. No link on file? We create one, same as always.

Customers and reporting

- The customers report has its own spot in the left menu, plus notes and tags on every record

- A refreshed tickets tab, showing each past visit’s service, status, staff member, location, and time

- Search customers at one location or all of them, with date of birth in the results

- Reporting tabs, so you can organize your reports instead of scrolling one long list

- Appointment search now opens on the last three months, and you can choose any date range

- See who created each appointment, and when, in the results

- A bounced and failed messages report, showing texts that failed and emails that bounced, with a link to the ticket

- See party size instead of ticket counts in tickets by agent

Bookings and queue

- Swap the customer on a saved ticket or appointment

- Give each person in a party their own service type

- Cap how many appointments get booked at the same time, or set a maximum for specific hours of the day. Leave a cell empty for no limit

- Send on-hold tickets to the bottom of the queue

- Send a waiver or form for the customer to fill in themselves, even if you cannot edit it

- Require a staff member on every bookable slot

- Services that send customers to another site stay out of the additional services list

Setup and everyday use

- Assign a staff role across a whole region in one step

- Give someone access to schedules, positions, and staff service times, without opening up the rest of your settings

- Drag your service type categories into the order you want them on your customer site and kiosk

- The workflow page in communication templates is now called walk-in

- Better keyboard and screen reader support throughout

- Clearer wording throughout the app, so your team moves through their day with confidence

- Waillo Assist remembers your conversation after a page refresh

Staff scheduling just got a major upgrade

Build the week faster, cover gaps in a click, and let staff see their shifts in their own calendar.

A new way to see the week

Scheduling now opens on the staff view: one row per person, the full week across the top, hours and daily totals built in. Weeks load noticeably faster, too.

- Click any empty day to add a shift

- Drag a shift to another day, or another person

- Copy a week or a single day, then paste it anywhere

- Shifts are colour-coded by position

One change to note: each shift now belongs to one person. To cover a busy day, add a shift per person. Multi-person shifts you have already built keep working as they did.

Fewer surprises

- Mark someone off sick straight from their shift

- Swap one person for another, or add extra staff to a busy date

- Discard unpublished changes and go back to your last published schedule

- When you publish, we flag booked appointments left without staff so you can reassign or cancel in one go

- Scheduled breaks block online booking

Shifts in your staff’s own calendar

Staff can add their WaitWell shifts to Google, Apple, or Outlook calendars. Their calendar updates on its own when the schedule changes, and time-off requests sit alongside their shifts.

Not using staff scheduling yet? Talk to your Client Success Manager about a free 3-month test run.

Mark your calendar for November

You have told us where WaitWell stops and your other systems start. In November, that gap closes. It is the biggest thing we have ever built, and it means far more of your day happens in one place. Stay tuned.

There is a lot in this release, and it is easier to show than to describe. Contact your Client Success Manager for a walkthrough.

On the road

Four events in August, in four different corners of the work our customers do.

Florida Tax Collectors Association was the highlight. We spent it with our Florida customers, a lot of them in one room, catching up on what is working and what they want next.

TC TECH let us meet up with Georgia county officials, talking through what happens between a customer walking in and reaching the counter.

Colorado County Clerks Association brought together offices that handle motor vehicles, recording, and licensing at the same counter. That mix is exactly what queueing and appointments are built for.

VetBolus in Banff was close to home for our Alberta team. Clinics run on booking, reminders, and check-in, and we heard plenty about all three.

In September we are at the SD Counties Annual Convention in Pierre, and at IVECCS in Savannah from September 14 to 17. Come find us if you will be there!

New on the blog

How Nevada won the West’s top DMV customer service award – Nevada’s DMV took AAMVA’s Region 4 Customer Convenience Award, and the numbers explain why. After its rural offices moved to appointment-only service, the average wait dropped from 78 minutes to 18. That is a 77% reduction with the same buildings, the same staff, and the same customers. The piece walks through how Nevada got there, from a two-office pilot in early 2024 to every rural office by last December, and what other agencies can borrow from it.

Join a live session, or watch one on demand

Every week we run free live sessions to help you get more out of WaitWell. Some walk through features step by step. Others dig into bigger topics like cutting wait times, reducing no-shows, and running a smoother service operation. Bring your questions, because our team is there live to answer them.

Can’t make a time that works? Our on-demand library is open whenever you are. Watch a past session start to finish, or skip to the part you need.

Either way, you get the same thing: a live demo of the platform, real results from teams like yours, and a chance to talk through the service challenges you are working on.

See upcoming sessions and watch on demand

Until next time, The WaitWell team 💙

More people are discovering travel advising as a career, but loving travel and knowing how to plan an incredible trip are only part of the equation. To make a real living at this, you have to think like a business owner. We created this guide to help advisors understand what it actually takes to build a business that can support both their financial goals and the life they want.

Free Guide Helps Aspiring and Established Travel Advisors Turn Growing Demand for the Profession into a Sustainable Business

IRVING, TX (October 20, 2026) – Travel advising has emerged as one of America’s fastest-growing careers, appearing on LinkedIn’s annual Jobs on the Rise list for two consecutive years. Now, Nexion Travel Group is helping aspiring and established travel advisors answer the next question: How do you turn that career opportunity into a profitable business?

Nexion Travel Group, the industry’s leading host agency, has released Make Six Figures as a Travel Agent, a free e-booklet that breaks down the business strategies behind reaching $100,000 in annual earnings. The guide is available to travel advisors across the industry, regardless of affiliation.

Interest in the profession is showing up within Nexion as well. The company reported a 20% increase in people interested in becoming travel advisors in 2026, as more people explore a career that can offer entrepreneurship, flexibility and the opportunity to build a business around travel.

“More people are discovering travel advising as a career, but loving travel and knowing how to plan an incredible trip are only part of the equation,” said Jackie Friedman, CTC, VTA, President, Nexion Travel Group. “To make a real living at this, you have to think like a business owner. We created this guide to help advisors understand what it actually takes to build a business that can support both their financial goals and the life they want.”

Make Six Figures as a Travel Agent focuses on the shift from simply booking more trips to intentionally building a profitable, scalable business. It draws on principles Nexion shares with its own members and gives advisors a framework for evaluating how they position their expertise, price their services and make decisions about growth.

Among the guide’s key strategies are finding a specialization and clearly defining an advisor’s value; charging professional fees that reflect that value; increasing average booking value rather than relying solely on volume; balancing referrals with new business; and learning when to say no to work that does not support the advisor’s goals.

The guide also tackles the math behind the six-figure milestone. Lower average booking values require advisors to complete more transactions to reach the same income target, bringing more emails, revisions and administrative work with them. Increasing average booking value, consistently charging professional fees and offering travel insurance can help advisors generate more revenue without simply adding more bookings.

That distinction can be particularly important for newer advisors who may equate a full calendar with a successful business.

“Being busy and being profitable are not the same thing,” Friedman said. “Building a six-figure travel business isn’t about chasing every lead or working around the clock. It’s about designing a business model around your expertise, your value and the clients you are best positioned to serve. Once advisors understand that, the first $100,000 becomes a much more tangible goal and a foundation they can build on.”

Daniel Birnbaum and Brigadier General (Reserve) Gabriel Shachor Join Massivit’s Advisory Board

Lod, Israel, 27th January 2026 – Massivit 3D Printing Technologies (Tel Aviv Stock Exchange: MSVT), a leading provider of large-format additive manufacturing systems, has announced the appointment of Daniel Birnbaum and Brigadier General (Reserve) Gabriel Shachor to the company’s Advisory Board. The announcement marks a milestone in the company’s strategic refocus on the defense, aerospace and aviation industries.

Daniel Birnbaum, former SodaStream CEO, reunites with Massivit CEO, Yossi Azarzar, after the two previously led SodaStream’s successful turnaround and accelerated growth. Birnbaum has proven management experience in building global companies and together with Azarzar, jointly led SodaStream’s turnaround, culminating in its acquisition by PepsiCo in 2018 for USD 3.2 billion.

Joining Birnbaum on the Advisory Board is Brig. Gen. (Res.) Gabriel Shachor, a former fighter pilot and commander of Palmachim Airbase, who played a key role in the development of unmanned aerial systems. Shachor brings decades of in-depth familiarity with procurement, integration and implementation processes within defense systems, alongside proven entrepreneurial experience as the founder and successful seller of drone company Sky Sapience.

At the core of Massivit’s renewed focus is its Cast In Motion (CIM) technology, which enables the rapid production of large molds and tooling for composite parts, a critical component in the development of defense systems, aircraft and protective solutions. While traditional manufacturing methods require three to six months to produce such molds, Massivit’s technology reduces the process to just a matter of days.

This dramatic reduction provides a substantial competitive advantage, enabling accelerated development of UAVs, aerospace systems and structural components at a pace aligned with today’s dynamic security environment. To support this, the company has developed, in collaboration with global chemical leader Sika, dedicated materials that meet extreme conditions and stringent defense standards, some of which have already been implemented within the local UAV industry. The solution removes key logistical barriers, eliminates lengthy sourcing processes for materials and tooling, and allows companies to focus their resources on product optimization and faster time-to-market.

The two appointments are a direct continuation of Massivit’s effort to build a new, highly professional management structure, which began approximately one year ago with the appointment of Yossi Azarzar as CEO. The move follows Massivit’s announcement several months ago regarding the expansion of its activities from traditional industrial-civilian markets toward becoming a rapid, technology-driven manufacturing platform tailored to the stringent requirements and timelines of the defense and aerospace sectors. As part of this transition, the company is currently undergoing a streamlining and reorganization process under the leadership of Azarzar.

Yossi Azarzar, CEO of Massivit, said: “The appointments of Daniel Birnbaum and Gabriel Shachor are an important pillar in building our management backbone and executing the company’s new business strategy. We are assembling a team with proven experience and deep expertise that will enable us to pave the way into new markets and deliver breakthrough solutions tailored to the needs of the local and global defense industries.”

Azarzar has held a series of senior leadership roles across both public and private sectors. Most recently, he served as COO of Stratasys, and prior to that as Global COO of Frutarom, the flavors and ingredients company acquired by IFF in 2018. He also served as COO of SodaStream and was part of the founding and management teams of Intel’s manufacturing operations in Kiryat Gat, Israel.

Daniel Birnbaum commented: “I am joining Massivit with the intention of contributing a shift in perspective thinking through the eyes of the customer and the operational mission, not only the technology itself. The ability to manufacture UAV wings within days rather than months is not merely an engineering achievement; it is a strategic event for the defense industry in Israel and globally. This is a revolution that directly addresses the industry’s most pressing need today: speed of development”.

Brig. Gen. (Res.) Gabriel Shachor added: “Massivit brings the defense industry a competitive advantage through a significant reduction in development processes and cycles—one that changes the rules of the game and positions the company with clear superiority in the defense components market. CIM technology enables an efficient and rapid response to operational realities and provides an advanced technological solution for manufacturing critical components. I am confident that the team being built, together with the CEO and Chairman, will lead the company to impressive business achievements.”

Alongside these appointments, Massivit is expanding its business model and establishing Service Bureaus that offer an end-to-end solution—from design and engineering through to composite part manufacturing—without requiring capital expenditure (CapEx) on the customer’s side. In Israel, such a center is already operating in collaboration with Comparts, providing immediate solutions for defense organizations and local aerospace industries.
