Tomorrow.Mobility 2026 will gather over 240 international experts in its conferences

BARCELONA, Spain, Oct. 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobility thinker Lukas Neckermann, Spain's Secretary General for Innovation Teresa Riesgo and Axel Volkery, from the European Commission's DG MOVE, will be among the headline speakers at Tomorrow.Mobility World Congress (TMWC), to be held from 3-5 November at Fira de Barcelona's Gran Via venue. Co-organised by Fira de Barcelona and EIT Urban Mobility, an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, a body of the European Union, the congress will bring together more than 240 experts from cities, governments and companies to accelerate the shift to sustainable urban mobility.

Neckermann, who coined the term "The Mobility Revolution" with his first book, is co-founder of the Urban Places Lab and author of four books. Teresa Riesgo, Secretary General for Innovation at the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and President of the CDTI, will join a roundtable on how mobility innovators can navigate an era of uncertainty. Axel Volkery, Head of the Innovation and Urban Mobility unit at DG MOVE, will discuss how public transport must evolve with changing user habits to remain attractive, accessible and relevant.

Other confirmed speakers include Daryl Barron, Lord Mayor of Dublin; Karen Vancluysen, Secretary General of POLIS; Lisandro Perotti, Undersecretary for Mobility Management and Control of Buenos Aires; Toks Omishakin, Secretary of the California State Transportation Agency; and Tanja Dik, CEO of the Johan Cruijff Arena.

Public transport, the backbone of the daily commute

A survey by EIT Urban Mobility among 1,503 adults in Barcelona, Munich and Bucharest places public transport at the heart of urban life: 56% of respondents use it to commute to work or study, ahead of car-based transport (52%), and those who do are twice as likely to include walking in their journey. Safety, reliability and comfort are what commuters value most.

The largest gaps between what commuters value and what they experience concern traffic density for car users and service reliability for public transport, and more than two in five respondents (41%) say they feel completely drained when they arrive home. The challenge for cities, and for the congress, is to share knowledge and explore innovative solutions for more liveable cities.

TMWC will be held alongside Smart City Expo World Congress, Tomorrow.Blue Economy, the Barcelona Deep Tech Summit and the Barcelona Cybersecurity Congress, which together will gather more than 1,100 exhibitors and over 27,000 attendees.

PrePass Launches PrePass Intelligence to Reveal New Value From Fleet Bypass, Toll and Safety Data
Image File
Original HTML

New intelligence capabilities help fleets quantify savings, optimize costs and gain earlier visibility into operational issues.

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- PrePass®, the leading provider of weigh station bypass, fleet toll intelligence and optimization, and safety and compliance solutions, today launched the first phase of PrePass Intelligence, helping fleets unlock unrealized value from their bypass and toll activity. The new fleet intelligence capabilities help commercial fleets unlock greater value from bypass and toll activity by surfacing insights that reduce costs, improve operational outcomes, optimize program performance and identify potential issues that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Fleets already know when a bypass occurs or a toll is charged. The harder task is determining what those events mean to the business, whether they reveal an opportunity or problem, and what action should follow. That often requires fleets to analyze large amounts of data across separate systems.

PrePass Intelligence closes that gap. The initial release uses bypass, safety, toll, and available vehicle GPS data to help fleets quantify the value of weigh station bypass, optimize toll spend and identify exceptions that might otherwise go unnoticed. Forecast CSA also provides earlier visibility into potential fleet safety and compliance impacts.

"A bypass, a toll transaction or an inspection is just an event. The real value comes from understanding what those events mean to the business," said Chas Wurster, Chief Technology Officer at PrePass. "Because PrePass operates across bypass, tolling and compliance, we see operational signals that often exist in separate systems. PrePass Intelligence helps fleets understand and focus on the most meaningful events, what they mean to the business and where action is needed."

Key highlights of the offering include:

- Connect safety data to operational decisions. By unifying inspection, violation, and bypass insights, PrePass helps fleets identify patterns, anticipate potential ISS score impacts, and act sooner across safety and operations.

- See the true value of bypass. Fleet-specific calculations show driver time, fuel and estimated operating costs saved based on actual bypass activity rather than industry averages.

- Identify additional bypass opportunities. Fleets can see where adding eligible vehicles, transponders or the PrePass mobile app could generate additional savings.

- Optimize toll spend. Driven by AI Toll Insights, toll-rate savings, violation savings, dispute credits and volume discounts are consolidated into one view of toll program value.

- Recover overcharges automatically. PrePass identifies likely maximum-rate toll overcharges and disputes eligible transactions on the customer's behalf.

- Spot operational issues sooner. Bypass, toll and available GPS data are correlated to identify transponder mismatches, assignment issues and possible fraudulent or unauthorized activity.

- Predict potential compliance impacts. Forecast CSA estimates how points from recent inspection activity may affect a fleet's ISS score before those changes appear in standard reporting.

"Fleet theft continues to evolve, and tolling transponders have become another target," said Patrick Gates, Senior Manager, Operations Equipment, Estes Express Lines. "PrePass Intelligence helps surface potential anomalies and suspicious toll activity that might otherwise go unnoticed, giving our team the visibility needed to investigate potential issues, make informed decisions and take corrective action."

Measurable Value of PrePass Intelligence

PrePass Intelligence builds on bypass, safety and toll intelligence capabilities already delivering measurable value:

- More than 1.2 billion bypasses and $12.4 billion in estimated operational savings. Since 1997, PrePass has helped fleets save 584 million gallons of fuel and 136 million driver hours - the equivalent of nearly two million workweeks returned to the industry.

- More than $7 million in Express Lane spend surfaced monthly. This visibility helps fleets understand how premium route usage affects toll spend and routing decisions.

- More than $1 million in potential unauthorized toll activity identified in a single month. By comparing toll and available GPS data, PrePass helps fleets detect unauthorized or fraudulent transactions that might otherwise go unnoticed.

PrePass Intelligence is available now at no additional cost to customers using the company's Bypass and Toll solutions and is part of a broader strategy to help fleets derive greater value from the data flowing through their connected roadside moments. The offering will be showcased at the American Trucking Associations' Management Conference & Exhibition in Charlotte, North Carolina, October 19 - 20, 2026, at Booth 18013. In HelloNation, HVAC Expert Darryl Johnson Breaks Down the Benefits of Heat Pumps
Image File
Original HTML

The article highlights how modern heat pumps support energy efficiency, indoor comfort, and year-round heating and cooling.

DANBURY, Conn., Oct. 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Are heat pumps a practical option for homeowners dealing with Connecticut's changing seasons? HelloNation answers that question in an article featuring insights from Darryl Johnson of Service Stars in Danbury, CT.

The article explains that heating and cooling costs remain an important concern for many Connecticut homeowners, especially during periods of extreme temperatures. In Danbury, winters often bring freezing conditions while summers can create heat and humidity that place heavy demands on HVAC systems. As a result, many homeowners are searching for solutions that improve energy efficiency while maintaining reliable indoor comfort throughout the year. According to the article, heat pumps have become increasingly popular because they provide both heating and cooling within one system while offering lower energy consumption than many traditional HVAC systems.

Unlike conventional furnaces or air conditioners that separately generate heat or cool air, heat pumps work by transferring heat from one location to another. During summer months, heat pumps remove heat from inside the home and move it outdoors, functioning similarly to a traditional air conditioner. During winter, the process reverses, allowing the system to pull heat from outdoor air and transfer it inside for heating purposes.

The article explains that one reason heat pumps have become more common in Danbury is the improvement in modern cold-weather performance. Older systems sometimes struggled to maintain efficiency during freezing temperatures, causing homeowners to question whether heat pumps could handle Connecticut winters effectively. Modern heat pumps, however, are designed to operate much more efficiently in colder climates and may continue performing reliably even during lower outdoor temperatures.

Energy efficiency is another major advantage discussed in the article. Because heat pumps transfer heat rather than generating it directly, they often require less energy than traditional heating systems. Lower energy consumption may help homeowners reduce monthly utility costs while improving overall HVAC efficiency throughout changing seasons. Many homeowners interested in lowering operating expenses find heat pumps appealing because they combine heating and cooling capabilities within a single system.

The article also highlights the convenience of using one system for year-round temperature control. Instead of maintaining separate heating and cooling equipment, homeowners may rely on heat pumps for both functions. This setup can simplify maintenance while creating more consistent indoor comfort throughout the year. According to the article, many homeowners appreciate having one HVAC system manage indoor temperatures during both summer and winter months.

Quiet operation is another feature often associated with modern heat pumps. The article explains that many systems are designed to operate more quietly than older HVAC systems or traditional heating equipment. Reduced noise levels may improve indoor comfort, especially during periods when systems operate continuously throughout extreme weather conditions.

Improved indoor comfort is also an important benefit highlighted in the article. Traditional heating systems sometimes create uneven temperatures or overly dry indoor air during winter. Heat pumps often provide steadier airflow and more balanced temperature control because they operate more consistently instead of cycling on and off aggressively. This may help create a more comfortable indoor environment throughout changing Connecticut weather conditions.

The article further explains that proper system sizing plays a major role in the long-term performance of heat pumps. Systems that are too small may struggle during periods of extreme weather, while oversized equipment may cycle too frequently and reduce energy efficiency over time. Professional evaluations and load calculations help ensure HVAC systems are properly matched to a home's size, insulation, and heating requirements.

Installation quality and routine maintenance are also important factors influencing long-term system performance. The article notes that airflow issues, refrigerant problems, poor ductwork connections, or incorrect thermostat calibration may affect reliability and lower energy consumption goals. Regular inspections, filter replacements, and HVAC maintenance help ensure heat pumps continue operating efficiently throughout both heating and cooling seasons.

The article concludes that every home has different heating and cooling needs, making professional evaluation important before selecting a system. Darryl Johnson, an HVAC Expert, shares insights that help homeowners better understand how modern heat pumps may improve energy efficiency, indoor comfort, and lower energy consumption while providing reliable heating and cooling throughout Connecticut's changing seasons.

Is a Heat Pump a Good Choice for Homes in Danbury, CT features insights from Darryl Johnson, HVAC Expert of Danbury, CT, in HelloNation.

Image File
Original HTML

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- On October 13, 2026, ACROBiosystems hosted ACRO Innovation Day x AI at The Hangar in South San Francisco, California, bringing together biotech founders, industry leaders and scientists to explore how experimental validation can advance AI-driven drug discovery and biologics development. Following opening remarks by Mike Chen, Founder, Chairman and CEO of ACROBiosystems, three presentations from ACROBiosystems and two panel discussions examined how to translate AI-generated designs into experimentally validated candidates. The event connected perspectives across the discovery workflow, highlighting the importance of reliable biological tools and usable experimental evidence in turning advances in AI into better-informed drug development decisions.

The event opened with remarks from Mike Chen, Founder, Chairman and CEO of ACROBiosystems, who briefly introduced the company and noted that its customer base has grown to 13,000. Turning to the purpose of the gathering, he emphasized that innovation is crucial to the industry and highlighted the growing momentum behind AI-driven drug discovery, reflected in rising investor interest and broader market recognition. From this spring's Innovation Day held in Zurich, Switzerland, to the ACRO Innovation Forum held in Shanghai in May, and the Fall Innovation Launch Event held in September, ACROBiosystems has remained committed to creating platforms for industry-wide innovation and exchange. This time we brought ACRO Innovation Day × AI to Silicon Valley, especially South San Francisco, where vibrant innovation community provides an ideal setting to discuss these developments. In the future, we will continue to deliver innovative products and solutions and promote innovation discussion and collaboration.

In a joint scientific session, three ACROBiosystems speakers outlined the company's approach to AI-driven discovery through validation services, biological products and structured data delivery.

Ting Wu, Vice President of Business Development at ACROBiosystems, opened the scientific session by outlining the company's role in providing experimental infrastructure for AI-driven discovery. She presented CHO-Direct™, a 4-day rapid sequence-to-affinity screening service utilizing Acro's protein and antibody CHO expression system, along with in-depth developability and characterization that closes the wet lab loop as fast as 7 days. With supernatant screening available in as few as four days, the platform helps researchers evaluate expression and binding early, then advance selected candidates for functional and developability assessment, using the same expression system with more accurate and consistent data delivery. Wu emphasized a modular approach that allows teams to select the validation depth their research requires, supported by traceable data that retain negative findings alongside successful results. This approach is designed to shorten experimental feedback cycles while giving researchers a broader basis for candidate selection.

Dr. Yu Sun, Vice President of Product Development at ACROBiosystems, then introduced the AIDD-Ready product portfolio, showing how the choice of biological materials shapes the value of experimental evidence. Her presentation connected target proteins with screening assays and functional models, including membrane proteins, TR-FRET solutions and cell-based systems. These tools support a progression from confirming molecular binding to evaluating activity in a relevant biological context. By presenting complementary validation formats for the same target, Dr. Sun illustrated how researchers can investigate whether a candidate recognizes the appropriate protein conformation, modulates the intended interaction and produces a functional cellular response, building a more complete picture of its potential.

John Yuan, Vice President of Digital Solution and General Manager at ACROBiosystems, presented ACRO Direct, a platform designed to make experimental data easier for AIDD teams to trust, integrate and reuse. He highlighted four customer benefits: (1) More reliable training data: distinguishing confirmed negatives from untested or unevaluable candidates helps prevent incorrect labeling; (2) Traceable results: linking measurements to supporting curves, records and batch quality information helps researchers verify and interpret findings; (3) Less manual data preparation: structured data and API access support integration with customers' research systems; (4) Better collaboration and faster iteration: shared reports and evidence help experimental and computational teams work from the same results and inform the next design cycle.

Panel 1: Beyond Prediction: Turning AI Designs into Biologics That Work

The first panel, "Beyond Prediction: Turning AI Designs into Biologics That Work," brought together Dr. Puwanat Sangkhapreecha, the founding scientist from Onava, Dauken Seitkali, the Co-Founder & CTO from ARLAN Biotech, Dr. Grace Zhao, the Co-Founder from Triant Biosciences and Dr. Fatih Semerci, the Founding member from DeepAdapt, moderated by Ting Wu, the VP of Business Development from ACROBiosystems. The session examined the gap between AI predictions and candidates suitable for further development.

Panelists highlighted gaps in standardized training data, including scarce antigen–antibody complex structures and discarded negative results. Measuring multiple properties of the same molecule, with repeat testing and calibration across laboratories, can reveal trade-offs among affinity, specificity and developability.

The discussion emphasized combining data-driven design with biological understanding to assess off-target binding, toxicity and developability earlier. Success should extend beyond binding hit rates to more reliable discovery and stronger clinical outcomes.

Key Takeaways:

Retaining negative results and measuring multiple properties of the same molecule can improve the evidence available for model training.

Standardized assays and calibration across laboratories are essential for reproducible, comparable training data.

Combining data with biological mechanisms can guide designs toward functional activity, developability and earlier identification of risk.

Panel 2: From AI Prediction to Experimental Proof: Closing the Loop in Biologic Discovery

The second panel, "From AI Prediction to Experimental Proof: Closing the Loop in Biologic Discovery," explored how experimental feedback can improve subsequent designs. Moderated by Larry Yu, Senior Director of Sales from ACROBiosystems, the session featured Chris Silva, Vice President, Marketing and Product from Carterra, Dr. Hong Tan, Co-Founder & CEO from Gator Bio, David Sheehan, Founder, President & CEO from Nucleus Biologics and Dr. Yu Sun, VP of Product Development from ACROBiosystems.

Dr. Sun emphasized biologically relevant reference proteins and validation beyond binding, noting that unreliable results can misdirect model learning. Silva highlighted multi-parameter measurements and control of assay artifacts. Tan stressed that reliable data must also be organized for model use, with analysis and interpretation remaining potential bottlenecks.

Sheehan highlighted reproducible culture and manufacturing conditions and AI's potential to anticipate production failures. Looking ahead, Tan envisioned autonomous laboratories, while Silva emphasized scientists' roles in hypotheses and interpretation and Sheehan saw automation expanding into manufacturing.

Key Takeaways:

Closing the loop requires reproducible, machine-usable feedback and validation that extends from binding to biological function.

Autonomous laboratories could shorten feedback cycles, with scientists focusing on hypotheses, interpretation and critical decisions.

ACRO Innovation Day x AI reinforced the value of connecting AI developers with the scientists and technology providers who generate the evidence behind discovery. As computational design expands the range of molecules researchers can explore, progress will depend on how effectively the industry validates those possibilities and learns from each experiment. ACROBiosystems will continue to build on its expertise in biological products and experimental validation, advancing structured data delivery and collaboration across the discovery ecosystem. Through these efforts, the company aims to help researchers make more confident development decisions and translate the promise of AI into meaningful progress toward new therapies. Through its Innovation Day series held across different locations, ACROBiosystems brings together diverse perspectives and creates opportunities for dialogue and collaboration, helping new ideas take root and grow.

Two major screen adaptations invite travelers to explore the inspired landscapes, landmarks and marine wonders of Monterey County, California

MONTEREY, Calif., Oct. 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- From the verdant Salinas Valley to the vibrant waters of coastal Monterey, Monterey County takes the spotlight in two major screen adaptations this October. Netflix's East of Eden limited series, based on John Steinbeck's celebrated 1952 novel, premiered October 1, while Whalefall, the movie based on Daniel Kraus's 2023 thriller, arrived in theaters on October 16. Together, the screen debuts invite travelers to rediscover the California central coast destination that has long been a muse for storytelling across generations and for writers including Henry Miller, Jack Kerouac and Nobel Prize author John Steinbeck.

While East of Eden brings the agricultural heartland that shaped Steinbeck's literary legacy into the limelight, Whalefall, with filming locations along the Monterey Peninsula, plunges audiences into the depths of Monterey Bay, one of the most diverse marine environments on the planet. As the destination unfolds as its own character, travelers are invited to move beyond the screen to experience the settings of these dynamic stories.

"Monterey County is a destination that sparks creativity and inspires storytelling," said Rob O'Keefe, President and CEO of See Monterey. "Perhaps it's our dramatically beautiful landscapes, or the diversity of people, pursuits and passions woven throughout our naturally connected communities. Whatever the inspiration, these two stories offer an invitation to discover Monterey County in new ways, from exploring Steinbeck's Salinas Valley to the world-renowned marine life of Monterey Bay."

East of Eden: Discover the real Steinbeck Country and the Salinas Valley

More than 70 years after its publication, John Steinbeck's East of Eden introduces a new generation to the timeless story through a Netflix series starring Florence Pugh, Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist and Ciarán Hinds. Born and raised in Salinas, Steinbeck drew inspiration from the region's farm communities, sweeping landscapes and his own family history. The agricultural heartland he famously called the "Valley of the World" became more than a backdrop to the novel, emerging as a character as vivid and dynamic as his characters.

While the Netflix series was filmed outside of Monterey County, the places behind Steinbeck's masterpiece beckon discovery:

- Walk the streets of East of Eden: Salinas' historic Main Street and the Chinatown district are both central to the novel's setting. Visitors can discover local lore through History Phone, a free, self-guided audio tour through Oldtown Salinas.

- See Steinbeck's childhood home: The historic Steinbeck House in Salinas, where the author was born and raised, welcomes visitors for lunch in the restored Victorian home. Steinbeck drew inspiration from his family, including his maternal Hamilton relatives, who are featured prominently in East of Eden. Steinbeck is buried in the Hamilton family plot at Salinas' Garden of Memories Cemetery.

- Flip through the pages of Steinbeck's literary legacy: The National Steinbeck Center in Salinas is one of the nation's largest museums dedicated to a single author. Its exhibits, manuscripts, and personal artifacts illuminate Steinbeck's life and the people and places that shaped his writing.

- Explore the "Valley of the World": Travelers can explore the Salinas Valley's rich agricultural heritage through farm-to-table dining and local businesses such as The Farm, an agricultural education center and farming business offering organic produce and baked goods seasonally, year-round farm tours, and special family activities such as u-pick days at the onsite flower farm. The Monterey County Agricultural & Rural Life Museum in King City also touts more than a century of farming history. The picturesque Monterey Wine Trail attracts visitors from all over the world for its scenic vineyards and tasting experiences, and leads to Pinnacles National Park, where rugged peaks, dramatic rock formations and hidden caves bring the landscapes of Steinbeck Country to life.

- Follow in Steinbeck's footsteps: Beyond Salinas, visitors can explore Cannery Row in Monterey, the namesake of another of Steinbeck's celebrated novels, or join The Steinbeck Experience for guided walking tours exploring the author's life and literary connections along the waterfront. In Pacific Grove, the Steinbeck Cottage, where Steinbeck lived with his first wife Carol, is available to rent for long-term stays.

See Monterey curated a three-day Steinbeck itinerary to connect the places that inspired the author's most enduring works.

Whalefall: Dive into Monterey Bay

Monterey County storytelling extends beneath the surface of the Pacific Ocean in Whalefall, starring Austin Abrams, Josh Brolin and Elisabeth Shue. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the bay and its rugged coastline, Whalefall shines a spotlight on the stunning marine environments and delicate ecosystem that have earned the region its reputation as one of the world's premier diving destinations.

While the film's premise is fictional, the marine setting at the heart of its story is very real. Visitors captivated by Whalefall can explore Monterey Bay's coastal landscapes and ocean experiences:

- Visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium: Located along Monterey's historic Cannery Row, the world-renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium offers an up-close look at the wonders under the sea, including the bay's unique kelp forest habitat and abundant diversity of wildlife.

- Explore Above and Below the Surface: Paddle through coastal waters with Monterey Bay Kayaks, where visitors encounter sea otters, harbor seals and other ocean animals in their natural habitat. For experienced divers, local outfitters such as Monterey Bay Scuba, an actual Whalefall filming location and the only full service Dive Shop and Dive Charter in Northern California, offer opportunities to explore the biodiversity of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary through courses and classes.

- Go whale watching year-round: Monterey Bay is among California's premier whale-watching destinations, with opportunities to see humpback whales, blue whales, gray whales and orcas year-round. Local businesses including Princess Monterey Whale Watching and Monterey Bay Whale Watch offer excursions led by experienced marine biologists and naturalists, combining wildlife encounters with education and conservation with tours available all four seasons.

- Explore Whalefall's cinematic coastline: Film scenes unfold along the rocky shoreline of Pacific Grove, and visitors can take in sweeping views and watch for whales, sea otters, sea lions, and seals along the windswept dunes of Marina and the scenic coastal trails of Point Lobos Natural State Reserve, which has been called "the greatest meeting of land and sea in the world."

From the landscapes and agricultural communities immortalized by Steinbeck to the ocean depths imagined by Kraus, East of Eden and Whalefall offer two compelling reasons to rediscover Monterey County through the stories inspired by its scenic land diversity, history and natural wonders.

Plan for a multi-day affair to be immersed amongst all the literary magic across Monterey County's 12 distinct communities that offer more than 220 lodging properties at every price point. Stay One More Night and take advantage of a special offer extending a third free lodging night from more than a dozen participating hotels. Book between now and February 28, 2027, for stays November 1, 2026, through March 31, 2027.
