University of Benghazi Reopens After 11 Years in Historic Milestone, Breaking Three Guinness World Records

Engineer Belqasim Khalifa Haftar's Dream Project Brings One of Libya's Most Prestigious Educational Institutions Back to Life

BENGHAZI, Libya, Sept. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- On September 4, 2026, the University of Benghazi officially reopened all its faculties and facilities following a comprehensive reconstruction and rehabilitation project implemented by the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund, headed by its Director General, Engineer Belqasim Khalifa Haftar.

The reopening marked a historic milestone for higher education in Libya, restoring life to the university's main campus after more than eleven years of closure due to the extensive destruction it sustained during the Libyan Armed Forces' war against terrorist groups.

Engineer Belqasim personally followed the project's finest details. What began as a personal dream evolved into one of the Fund's most prominent educational initiatives. In an exceptional achievement, an integrated university city was rebuilt in just three years, providing a modern academic environment designed to serve current and future generations.

Known as the "Mother of Libyan Universities," the University of Benghazi is among the country's oldest and largest academic institutions, with nearly 100,000 students. Over the decades, it has provided free education and graduated generations of scientists, academics, experts and officials who have contributed to building Libya's institutions.

The project covered the Faculties of Engineering, Arts, Law, Science and Languages, alongside the central library, academic and administrative buildings, laboratories, service facilities, student residences, infrastructure and internal roads.

The inauguration ceremony welcomed prominent Libyan figures, ambassadors, international delegations and approximately 240 foreign guests. Led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar and Engineer Belqasim Khalifa Haftar, the event featured 3D mapping, advanced visual effects and an aerial drone performance that achieved three Guinness World Records: an eagle formation, a quill writing "University of Benghazi" across the sky and the formation of a peace symbol.

The Fund has also sent more than 1,000 university students abroad to continue their studies, combining physical reconstruction with investment in human capital.

The achievement forms part of more than 2,300 development projects being implemented across eastern and southern Libya. These include the rehabilitation of universities and educational institutions in Kufra, Al Bayda, Derna, Al Marj, Ajdabiya, Sirte, Brak al-Shati and Murzuq, alongside approximately 250 schools.

The reopening is therefore far more than the return of an educational institution: it restores one of Libya's most prominent scientific and historic landmarks to the heart of national life.

ILONA ANTONYAN NAMED TO THE NATION'S TOP ONE PERCENT BY THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF DISTINGUISHED COUNSEL

Antonyan Miranda Founding Partner recognized among the nation's most distinguished family law attorneys

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Antonyan Miranda, LLP announced today that Founding Partner Ilona Antonyan has been selected as a member of the Nation's Top One Percent by the National Association of Distinguished Counsel (NADC), a distinction reserved for fewer than one percent of practicing attorneys nationwide.

Founded in 2014, NADC recognizes attorneys who elevate the standards of the legal profession and provide a benchmark for other lawyers to emulate. Candidates undergo a rigorous, three-tier vetting process: an initial review by NADC's research team, evaluation by a blue-ribbon panel of attorneys holding podium status with independently neutral legal organizations, and final approval by a judicial review board.

A Rigorous, Peer-Driven Standard of Excellence

As a Founding Partner of Antonyan Miranda and a Certified Family Law Specialist, Antonyan has built a reputation for guiding clients through complex, high-conflict, and high-asset divorce matters throughout San Diego, Orange, and Riverside Counties. Her selection to NADC's Nation's Top One Percent reflects a career defined by trial experience, sound judgment, and an unwavering commitment to the families she represents.

Ilona Antonyan, Founding Partner and Certified Family Law Specialist, stated: "Being named to the Nation's Top One Percent by NADC is a meaningful honor, especially given the rigor of the vetting process behind it. Family law is deeply personal work, and this recognition belongs as much to my clients and my team at Antonyan Miranda as it does to me. I'm grateful for the trust our clients place in us every day."

Antonyan joins a select group of attorneys nationwide recognized by NADC for demonstrating the highest ideals of the legal profession, further strengthening Antonyan Miranda's standing as one of Southern California's premier family law firms.

About Antonyan Miranda

The senior living bus will be transformed into a warm, welcoming and comforting space where children feel safe and cared for in challenging situations.

Bobi Kruemberg, Executive Director of Watercrest St. Lucie West, also serves as a board member for United Against Child Trafficking (UACT). During a recent meeting, Kruemberg learned of the critical need in the Port St. Lucie area for a mobile medical rescue unit to serve children in crisis situations. A local craftsman recently volunteered to complete the exterior work, representing an estimated $15,000 donation to the project. NEW YORK CITY ICON, THE ALGONQUIN HOTEL, UNVEILS REIMAGINED INTERIORS INSPIRED BY NEW YORK'S CREATIVE SPIRIT

Historic Midtown Manhattan Hotel Introduces Thoughtfully Redesigned Guestrooms and Corridors Anchored by Exclusive Artwork Curated in Partnership with The Al Hirschfeld Foundation

NEW YORK, Sept. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Algonquin Hotel, Autograph Collection, one of New York City's most storied literary landmarks, announces the completion of a full renovation of all guestrooms, elevators, and corridors, unveiling a reimagined residential experience that pays tribute to the hotel's legacy while opening a new chapter for this haven of creativity. Completed through a carefully phased, multi-year renovation process, the project was quietly executed while the hotel remained fully operational, preserving the guest experience throughout construction.

Led by Brooklyn-based interior design firm CRÈME / Jun Aizaki Architecture & Design in collaboration with LUCID, the design and development arm of leading hospitality management company Highgate Hotels, the redesign was guided by two central ideas: honoring The Algonquin's legacy and creating an ode to New York City. Drawing inspiration from the hotel's history as a gathering place for writers, performers, and academics, the refreshed guestrooms and corridors echo the hotel's long-standing irreverence and intimacy while channeling the layered creative energy of today's Manhattan.

"The Algonquin Hotel has long served as a safe haven for wild minds, a quiet place along Club Row in the center of the wonderful whirlwind that is New York City ", said Willis Loughhead, General Manager of The Algonquin, in his 6th year at the helm. "Our focus was to honor the past without being beholden to it; timeless rooms were built where creativity can be sparked, and our landmark charm will be enlivened."

Without altering the hotel's historic footprint, CRÈME leaned into the intimacy and scale of the guestrooms, embracing their proportions and allowing the original framework of the building to shape the experience. The result is a collection of layered, residential spaces designed to feel sophisticated and personal.

Each guestroom and suite is anchored by a custom triptych artwork featuring exclusive Al Hirschfeld pieces, curated in partnership with The Al Hirschfeld Foundation and Director David Leopold, including a gold leaf-accented Central Park illustration that is exclusive to The Algonquin Hotel. Throughout the corridors, visitors will discover archival Hirschfeld works spanning theater, music, literature and popular culture, with each floor featuring its own unique collection. The works selected were drawn from the entirety of Al Hirschfeld's 80-year career in New York City, with many of the pieces not publicly displayed in decades and others sourced exclusively from the Foundation's archives specifically for the hotel. Rather than presenting the artwork in a traditional gallery, the pieces are intentionally woven throughout the property to create a one-of-a-kind collection that encourages curiosity and conversation.

"The Algonquin and Al Hirschfeld share a uniquely New York story rooted in creativity, character and storytelling," said David Leopold of The Al Hirschfeld Foundation. "Together, the hotel and foundation curated a collection that can't be found anywhere else and an immersive experience where every hallway, room and detail invites guests to engage with art and storytelling in a deeply personal way."

The renovation also introduces unexpected design details such as oversized luggage-tag-inspired room signage featuring 181 individually curated quotes from legends who created or influenced the hotel. Each guestroom displays its own distinct message from a diverse cast of characters and past residents such as Kermit the Frog, Maya Angelou, John Leguizamo, The Notorious B.I.G., Dorothy Parker, and The Vicious Circle; all cultural figures with ties to The Algonquin Hotel Times Square and the city of New York City. Subtle Art Deco references and jazz-inspired patterns appear throughout the design, including rhythmic corridor carpeting that reflects the movement and improvisation of music while nodding to the era of the famed Algonquin Round Table.

Additional design details include brass fixtures, layered lighting, custom marble-topped furnishings inspired by the hotel's original stairwells and integrated architectural elements that enhance warmth and functionality throughout the historic building. Rich walnut woods, ebonized oak, aged bronze finishes, and plush charcoal velvet headboards create warmth within the rooms, while a palette of deep and light celadon, peacock green, charcoal, and soft neutrals evoke the charisma and comfort of past and present Manhattan.

The hotel's culinary experience has also evolved alongside the renovation, with new menu items and cocktails served alongside redesigned menus at The Blue Bar Restaurant & Lounge, also created in collaboration with The Al Hirschfeld Foundation. Featuring archival Hirschfeld drawings, the refreshed offerings extend the hotel's design narrative while honoring the artists, performers and personalities that have long shaped The Algonquin's cultural identity.

Since opening in 1902, The Algonquin Hotel has occupied a singular place within New York's cultural fabric, serving as both a refuge and meeting place for generations of literary, theatrical and creative figures. With the completion of its guestroom renovation, the hotel continues that legacy while creating space for a new generation of stories, conversations and discoveries to unfold. ACRE Investment Management Launches Playbook for the Planet, Connecting the Resilience of Athletes and the Natural World

Featuring Haley Van Voorhis, who made NCAA College Football History three years ago, the campaign drives home a simple truth; a healthy body and a healthy planet share the same foundation of preparation, restoration, and resilience.

THE PLAINS, Va., Sept. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- ACRE Investment Management, a leading natural capital investment platform, today launched Playbook for the Planet, a new campaign built around a simple idea: healthy people depend on a healthy environment.

At the center of the campaign is Haley Van Voorhis (instagram.com/haleyvanv), who made NCAA college football history in September 2023. Her journey in football reflects the preparation, persistence, and resilience required to challenge expectations and create lasting change.

Those same qualities have shaped ACRE's approach to restoring natural systems for more than two decades. Reforestation, oyster reef restoration, nutrient banking, and other nature-based solutions do not happen overnight. They require planning, teamwork, patient capital, scientific measurement, and long-term stewardship.

Playbook for the Planet brings these two stories together.

"Resilience is not built in the moment it gets tested. It is built long before anyone is watching," said Haley Van Voorhis. "As athletes, we depend on the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the outdoor places where we train, compete, and recover. Caring for those systems is part of caring for ourselves and the generations that come after us."

The campaign draws a connection between the environments that support human performance and the natural systems that sustain communities. Clean air, healthy soil, functioning waterways, forests, and coastlines are not distant environmental concepts. They are part of the places where people live, work, play, and recover.

For ACRE, that connection is grounded in years of work alongside landowners, foresters, scientists, conservation professionals, and community partners. Across the Mississippi Alluvial Valley, the Carolina Piedmont, and the Chesapeake Bay region, ACRE and its platforms have helped build the financial and operational infrastructure needed to restore nature at scale.

ACRE's work includes GreenTrees, a reforestation program covering more than 140,000 acres of privately owned land across approximately 650 landowner partners; Conservation+, a Virginia nutrient bank developer; Oyster Carbon Company, which advances oyster reef restoration in the Chesapeake Bay; and Big River Nursery, a producer of Eastern Cottonwood planting stock. Together, these efforts reflect a broader vision of natural capital that recognizes the interconnected value of air, land, and water.

"The trees, reefs, and restored landscapes are what people see, but every project begins with people," said Marcia Degnan, Chief Marketing Officer of ACRE Investment Management. "Behind the work are landowners making long-term decisions about their property, scientists measuring outcomes, nurseries growing the next generation of forests, and partners willing to invest in restoration. Playbook for the Planet is about telling that larger story and showing that the health of people and the health of the places around them are intertwined."

Rather than presenting conservation as something removed from daily life, Playbook for the Planet invites people to see themselves as participants. The choices made today about forests, waterways, coastlines, and working lands will shape the places where future generations live and play.

The campaign will share stories from athletes, landowners, restoration professionals, and others whose work demonstrates what long-term resilience looks like in practice. More information is available at acre-investment.com/playbook-for-the-planet.
