Missoula, Mont. – October 01, 2026 -- onX Hunt has rolled out a set of new safety and navigation tools for hunters, including live group location sharing, fully offline turn-by-turn navigation, and a separate $49.99-per-year emergency rescue add-on called onX SOS.
Location Sharing lets hunters track up to nine companions on a single live map
Paid onX Hunt members can start or join a session with up to nine other people, updating locations every five seconds so the group can adjust meeting points and regroup in the field. If a member loses signal, their last known position stays pinned with a timestamp until they reconnect. The feature requires a data connection via cellular, Wi-Fi, or compatible satellite service, and onX deletes location data immediately when a user leaves a session or when the session ends.
Offline navigation now works even where cell towers don't reach
An onX analysis found that more than 646 million acres -- about 28% of U.S. land area -- lack cellular coverage. The new offline navigation, available on iOS and Android, calculates routes and reroutes entirely on-device using a map downloaded before the trip. Android users need version 26.28 or later. A network connection is only required if a route extends past the downloaded map's boundary.
onX SOS connects hunters to a 24/7 crisis response team for $49.99 a year
The add-on, powered by Overwatch x Rescue, links subscribers to a trained coordinator and covers eligible rescue and evacuation costs with no deductible or claims process. When activated, the app sends an SMS with the user's GPS coordinates and account details to Overwatch x Rescue's Crisis Response Center via cellular or supported satellite messaging, triggering two-way communication until help arrives. Overwatch x Rescue, a service of FocusPoint International, has coordinated more than 15,000 rescues across more than 220 countries and territories.
"Hunters have been clear about what they need in the field: an easier way to coordinate with their group, dependable navigation beyond cell service, and a backup plan when something goes wrong," said Cliff Cancelosi, Senior Vice President of onX Hunt.
onX SOS can be purchased at any onX Hunt membership tier and requires a device with cellular or supported satellite SMS capability.
