Somersworth – September 30, 2026 -- Atlantic Digestive Specialists has notified patients that their Social Security numbers, medical records, and financial data may have been accessed by unauthorized parties during a network breach earlier this year.
Suspicious network activity triggered an investigation in March 2026
The New Hampshire-based gastroenterology practice detected suspicious activity on its systems and immediately secured its network, then hired outside cybersecurity experts to investigate. That probe found that intruders may have viewed or acquired data between March 16 and March 17, 2026.
A months-long review uncovered exposed health and financial records
Atlantic Digestive completed a full review of the affected data in August 2026, confirming that personal and protected health information was involved. The exposed data may include names, Social Security numbers, driver's license or state ID numbers, dates of birth, financial account and payment card information, alien registration and taxpayer ID numbers, and passport numbers.
Medical details were also potentially compromised, including diagnoses, treatment and prescription information, medical record and patient account numbers, Medicaid/Medicare numbers, health insurance policy numbers, medical provider names, and dates of service. Usernames, passwords, and digital signatures may have been exposed as well.
Notifications began September 30 after the practice tracked down contact details
After locating contact information for affected individuals, Atlantic Digestive finalized notification arrangements on September 8, 2026, and began sending letters to patients on September 30, 2026.
A call center is open for patients with questions
The practice has set up a toll-free line, 1-866-200-0962, staffed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern Time, excluding U.S. holidays, for patients seeking more information or assistance related to the incident.
