DB HiTek Completes Reliability Qualification for 8-Inch SiC MOSFET Process

Seoul – September 12, 2026 -- DB HiTek has completed reliability qualification for its 1,200V silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFET process on 8-inch (200mm) wafers, establishing what the company calls the world's first complete 8-inch SiC foundry process flow. The South Korean foundry, which specializes in 8-inch wafer production, is targeting volume manufacturing of the technology in 2027.

DB HiTek builds full-service SiC foundry platform spanning design to reliability testing

By optimizing its high-power SiC MOSFET process, DB HiTek achieved competitive electrical characteristics alongside the reliability qualification, creating a foundry platform covering design, fabrication, electrical characterization and reliability testing for customers. The move responds to a broader industry shift from 6-inch to 8-inch SiC wafers, which global semiconductor manufacturers are adopting to improve production efficiency and cost competitiveness for electric vehicles, renewable energy systems and industrial power equipment.

First and second-generation PDKs ship now; third-generation kit due in November

DB HiTek is supplying customers with first- and second-generation process design kits (PDKs) for its proprietary 1,200V SiC MOSFET processes, with a third-generation PDK scheduled for release in November. The company expects the kits to cut product development time by more than a year by reducing resource demands during early-stage design and accelerating prototyping.

The second-generation process covered by the current PDK delivers a specific on-resistance (Rsp) of 2.5 mΩ·cm2 or lower and a threshold voltage (Vth) of 3V or higher at an on-state gate voltage (Vgs(on)) of 18V, and has already cleared reliability qualification. The third-generation process, still undergoing qualification testing, targets an Rsp of 2.3 mΩ·cm2 or lower at the same 18V gate voltage, plus a short-circuit withstand time (SCWT) of at least 2.5 microseconds within the short-circuit safe operating area (SCSOA).

Customer rollout begins Q3 2026, full availability set for Q2 2027

DB HiTek plans to finalize process preparations and grant access to regular customers during the third quarter of this year, with the service expected to become available to all customers starting the second quarter of 2027. A company representative said the reliability qualification confirms DB HiTek has secured the core process technology and manufacturing foundation needed to offer the world's first 8-inch SiC foundry service, and that the company will continue preparing for 2027 volume production to strengthen its position in next-generation power semiconductor foundry.
