Hoymiles Launches 22kW V2X Charger That Turns EVs Into Home Batteries

Hangzhou – September 10, 2026 -- Hoymiles has launched a V2X DC charger capable of delivering up to 22 kW, letting homeowners plug an electric vehicle directly into their solar and battery storage setup as a two-way power source.

The charger turns parked EVs into backup power for the home

The V2X DC charger supports bidirectional charging, meaning an EV can supply power to a house during a grid outage through Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) technology. It can also feed electricity back to the grid via Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), letting households participate in peak-shaving programs and virtual power plant schemes. An integrated meter, certified under the EU's MID standard, tracks energy flows for monitoring purposes.

Direct DC charging cuts conversion losses

Unlike AC-connected chargers that rely on a vehicle's onboard charger (OBC) to convert AC to DC, the Hoymiles unit sends direct current straight from solar panels and battery storage to the EV. Bypassing the OBC eliminates a conversion step, reducing energy losses during charging.

One hour of charging adds roughly 110 km of range

At 22 kW, the DC charger adds about 110 km of driving range per hour of charging, compared to roughly 35 km per hour with a conventional AC charger, according to Hoymiles. The company says the unit is compatible with 95% of popular EV models on the market.

The charger mounts separately from the home battery system

Designed as a standalone unit, the V2X charger can be installed near a parking spot independent of where a household places its HiOne All-in-One battery energy storage system (BESS). It carries an IP65 rating for outdoor durability and an IK10 rating for impact resistance.

A single app controls solar, storage, and EV charging

The V2X charger runs on the same app as Hoymiles' home energy products, giving users one interface to monitor and control solar generation, battery storage, and EV charging together. Users can switch between a green energy mode and a fast charging mode depending on their needs.
