Hoymiles Launches 22kW V2X Charger Turning EVs Into Home Batteries

Changzhou – September 10, 2026 -- Hoymiles has launched a bidirectional DC V2X charger capable of delivering up to 22 kW, letting homeowners use their electric vehicle as an extra power source for the house or the grid. The charger works alongside Hoymiles' HiOne all-in-one home battery storage system, linking solar panels, batteries, EVs and the grid into a single home energy setup.

The charger lets EVs power homes during outages
Using Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) technology, the V2X charger can turn a parked EV into a backup power source when grid electricity is unavailable. Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) functionality also lets households feed stored EV power back into the grid, supporting peak-demand reduction and virtual power plant (VPP) programs. The unit includes a built-in electricity meter certified under the EU Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) for accurate energy tracking.

Direct DC charging cuts energy loss and charging time
Unlike AC chargers that rely on a vehicle's onboard computer to convert AC to DC, the Hoymiles V2X charger sends direct current from solar panels or battery storage straight into the EV, bypassing the onboard charger (OBC) entirely. This eliminates unnecessary AC/DC conversion losses. According to Hoymiles, a standard AC charger adds roughly 35 km of driving range per hour, while the V2X charger can add around 110 km in the same time. The company says the charger is compatible with 95% of common EV models.

The unit is built for flexible, outdoor installation
Designed as a standalone unit, the V2X charger can be mounted separately from the HiOne battery storage system, giving homeowners freedom to place each device wherever fits their setup best -- for example, next to a parking spot. It carries an IP65 rating for weather resistance and an IK10 rating for impact protection, aimed at long-term outdoor use.

One app now controls the entire home energy system
The V2X charger operates through the same app ecosystem as Hoymiles' other home energy products, giving users a single interface to monitor and manage solar, storage, and EV charging. Users can switch between an eco mode and a fast-charging mode depending on their needs. The launch extends Hoymiles' integrated home energy ecosystem, connecting solar generation, storage, energy management and EV charging in one system.
