Hangzhou – September 10, 2026 -- Hoymiles has launched a 22-kilowatt V2X DC charger designed to work with its HiOne all-in-one battery energy storage system, letting homeowners turn an electric vehicle into a backup power source for the house.
The charger lets EVs send power back to homes during outages
The V2X charger supports bidirectional charging, meaning it can move electricity in both directions between a vehicle and a home. Through Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) mode, it can supply emergency backup power if the grid goes down. Through Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) mode, households can participate in load balancing and virtual power plant programs. The unit also includes an EU-MID certified meter for accurate energy monitoring.
Direct DC charging cuts wasted energy during conversion
Standard AC chargers rely on a vehicle's onboard charger to convert AC power to DC, a step that loses energy in the process. Hoymiles' V2X charger skips that conversion by feeding DC power directly from solar panels or battery storage into the vehicle, reducing energy loss during charging.
Charging speed jumps from 35 km to 110 km per hour
With up to 22 kW of DC charging power, the V2X charger delivers roughly 110 kilometers of driving range per hour of charging, compared to about 35 kilometers per hour from a conventional AC charger. Hoymiles says the charger is compatible with 95% of electric vehicles currently on the market.
The unit installs as a standalone charger near parking spots
Built to operate independently rather than as an add-on, the V2X charger can be installed flexibly, including next to a parking space, freeing up placement options for the HiOne battery storage unit elsewhere in the home. The charger carries an IP65 rating for outdoor durability and an IK10 rating for impact resistance.
One app now controls solar, storage, and EV charging together
The V2X charger runs on the same app-based platform as Hoymiles' other home energy products, giving users a single interface to monitor and control solar generation, battery storage, and EV charging. Users can switch between an eco-power mode and a fast-charging mode depending on their needs.
