Sharjah Opens 13th Communication Award, Adds AI Category

Sharjah – September 09, 2026 -- The Government of Sharjah has opened global applications for the 13th edition of the Sharjah Government Communication Award, expanding the competition to more than 35 prizes and introducing a dedicated artificial intelligence category for the first time.

Applications close September 22, 2026, across government, private sector and individual tracks

Organizations and individuals worldwide have until September 22, 2026 to submit entries. Prizes are split across government and international bodies, private sector organizations, individual honors, smart communication contests, jury awards and partner awards.

2025 edition drew over 2,600 entries from 37 countries

The expansion follows rising international participation last year, when the award received more than 2,600 applications from 37 countries. Over 600 advanced past initial screening, and 170 reached the final evaluation stage. Past entries have included Tuvalu's bid to become the world's first digital nation in response to climate change, youth entrepreneurship programs in Nigeria, and an AI platform connecting experts across Africa and the United States.

New AI category rewards measurable communication outcomes

Launched by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, the 13th edition centers on artificial intelligence and measurable results. For the first time, a category titled "Best Use of AI in Government and Institutional Communication" has been introduced. All other categories can now earn up to 10 percent in bonus points for effective AI integration.

Jury will assess AI's role in planning, execution and audience impact

Evaluators will examine how AI was applied across planning, implementation and outcome assessment, including whether it improved content quality, audience understanding or communication efficiency. A new sub-category, "Best Campaigns Promoting Emirati Identity," has also been added.

The Media Bureau said it is seeking initiatives that demonstrate not only communication effectiveness but also the durability of the change generated and who benefited from it.
