Quantinuum, Aramco Sign MOU to Explore Quantum Computing in Energy

Riyadh – September 08, 2026 -- Quantinuum has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Aramco, one of the world's largest integrated energy and chemicals companies, to explore industrial quantum computing use cases and lay groundwork for a potential research collaboration focused on fault-tolerant quantum computing.

Aramco and Quantinuum will jointly identify energy-sector problems suited for quantum research

Under the MOU, the two companies plan to begin initial technical onboarding and knowledge-sharing efforts. They will identify Aramco challenges suitable for quantum computing research, with emphasis on solving complex problems in energy and digital transformation.

The collaboration aims to assess how future generations of quantum systems could address relevant scientific and industrial challenges, and to compare different quantum computing modalities.

The partnership builds on Aramco's existing efforts to position itself as an early adopter of advanced quantum technologies in the energy industry, supporting the sector's digital transformation and contributing to an evolving roadmap for quantum computing in energy.

Dr. Rajeeb Hazra, President and CEO of Quantinuum, said companies expecting to benefit from quantum computing need to start developing expertise, algorithms and workflows today. He said the MOU creates a framework for Quantinuum and Aramco to exchange expertise, identify key industrial challenges, and pave the way for deeper research collaboration, combining Aramco's scientific and engineering know-how with Quantinuum's integrated hardware and software capabilities.
