TCL Bets on NXTPAPER Displays to Stand Out in Crowded Phone Market

Berlin – September 04, 2026 -- TCL is doubling down on its NXTPAPER display technology as the centerpiece of its mobile strategy, showcasing the latest phones, tablets and wearables built around the feature at IFA in Hall 21A.

NXTPAPER now combines with AMOLED screens for the first time

At Mobile World Congress 2026, TCL announced what it calls the world's first integration of NXTPAPER with AMOLED displays, developed alongside TCL CSOT. The pairing is designed to merge AMOLED's contrast, color reproduction and brightness with NXTPAPER's glare-reduction and paper-like viewing comfort.

TCL first brought NXTPAPER to market commercially in 2021, building on internal research into reflected light, blue-light adjustment and visual comfort. The company says the technology is now backed by 117 patents and 15 certifications, and has picked up 189 media and industry awards. Third-party recognitions include SGS Performance Tested and Premium Performance status, along with TÜV Rheinland's Full Care Display certification.

Everyday reliability remains the core sales pitch

Beyond the display push, TCL frames its phones around consistent basics: responsive performance, all-day battery life, practical charging, capable cameras, stable software, reliable connectivity and durable design. The company says feature sets vary by model, segment and market, and that any device should be judged on the full experience rather than a single standout spec.

Mobile division traces back to 1999

TCL established its mobile communications division in 1999, expanded internationally in 2004 through the TCL & Alcatel Mobile Phones brand, and took full ownership of that operation in 2005. The company says its combined research, display engineering and manufacturing capabilities -- supported by industry partnerships -- help it adapt products across different markets while building out an AI ecosystem.

TCL keeps its gold sustainability rating

In its latest EcoVadis assessment, TCL retained a gold rating for environmental, social and governance performance, placing it in the top 5% among more than 150,000 companies assessed worldwide. The company posted an overall score of 79 and an environmental performance score of 85 out of 100, which it attributes to progress in responsible manufacturing, energy efficiency and sustainability reporting across its mobile product lines.

TCL notes that product availability and features vary by market and device, with final specifications subject to local confirmation.
