Tillamook Builds Giant Cheese Loaf Landmark on Route 66

Tillamook, Ore. – September 03, 2026 -- Tillamook cheese has landed a permanent spot on Route 66, unveiling a roadside landmark shaped like a massive cheddar loaf outside Flagstaff, Arizona.

A cheese sculpture roughly 32,000 times the size of the real thing greets road trippers

The new Cheeseside Attraction, a giant replica of Tillamook's Medium Cheddar Baby Loaf, now stands among the pines at the Americana Motor Hotel in Flagstaff. Tillamook says the piece is about 32,000 times the size of a standard loaf, joining other oversized roadside stops along the Route 66 Cheese Trail. The brand notes that Route 66 doesn't actually pass through Oregon, making the installation its way of bringing the state's cheddar to the historic highway.

The hotel unveiled the landmark with a public event on August 29

Tillamook and Americana Motor Hotel held an unveiling from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. MST on Saturday, August 29, letting visitors sample cheese, take photos with the sculpture, and order from a limited-time menu at the hotel's Far Out Food takeout window.

The takeover runs through September 7 with branded pool days and hotel stays

Through September 7, every guest at the hotel receives a Tillamook Ice Cream Bar at check-in, and the property's heated pool becomes a Tillamook-branded pool party with floats and towels. Local residents can join the pool event too, with day passes sold through ResortPass. The limited Far Out Food menu includes a Spicy Tillamook Cheddar Breakfast Sandwich, a Tillamook Sharp Cheddar Wedge Salad, a grilled cheese made with Tillamook Whole Milk Mozzarella, and a root beer float made with Tillamook Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.

Guests can book a themed room decorated around the cheese brand

The Tillamook Cheeseside Stay, a room decked out in Tillamook-inspired décor, is available from August 29 through September 7 with a two-night minimum. Reservations can be made by calling 928.833.3060.

Free samples are planned for the Labor Day weekend rush

Visitors passing through between September 4 and September 6, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., can pick up free Tillamook samples for the road while supplies last.
