Chicago – – October 05, 2026 -- Cboe Global Markets reported record third-quarter trading volumes across multiple flagship derivatives products, led by zero-days-to-expiry S&P 500 Index (SPX) options, which hit a quarterly average daily volume (ADV) of 3.2 million contracts.
Quarterly SPX 0DTE volume hits record 3.2 million contracts daily
Cboe's zero-days-to-expiry S&P 500 Index options reached a quarterly ADV record of 3.2 million contracts in the third quarter of 2026, with September alone setting a monthly record of 3.4 million contracts, the exchange operator disclosed in its Oct. 5 volume report.
Mini-SPX (XSP) contracts post record quarterly activity
XSP options also hit all-time highs, with quarterly ADV of 251,000 contracts and September volume reaching 274,000 contracts. XSP 0DTE trading set quarterly and monthly records of 146,000 and 165,000 contracts, respectively.
Russell 2000 options log best month since 2016
RUT options ADV reached 99,000 contracts in September, the strongest monthly reading since January 2016, pushing quarterly ADV to 86,000 contracts for its second-best quarter on record.
Overnight trading session volume climbs to new highs
Cboe's Global Trading Hours session, running 8:15 p.m. to 9:25 a.m. ET, recorded quarterly ADV of 228,000 contracts and a September ADV of 263,000 contracts, both records, reflecting rising international demand for U.S. index derivatives outside standard trading hours.
Multi-list options volume reaches second-best quarter on record
Across its four options exchanges — Cboe Options, C2 Options, BZX Options and EDGX Options — Cboe reported quarterly multi-list ADV of 15.3 million contracts, its second-best quarter on record. Monthly proprietary index options ADV reached 6.4 million contracts, also the second highest on record, while quarterly SPX options ADV totaled 4.9 million contracts.
Cboe also issued preliminary net revenue capture guidance for the third quarter of 2026 spanning options, futures, U.S. and Canadian equities, European equities, Global FX and Cboe Clear Europe, cautioning that the figures remain estimated and subject to change ahead of final quarterly reporting.
