San Rafael, Calif. – October 05, 2026 -- BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. (Nasdaq: BMRN) appointed Cara Bauer, Ph.D., as Executive Vice President, Chief People Officer, effective Oct. 5, 2026, succeeding Amy Wireman, who is retiring after nearly 14 years at the company.
Bauer arrives with 25 years of HR leadership across biotech and technology
Bauer joins BioMarin from Kyverna Therapeutics, Inc., where she served as Chief Human Resources Officer starting October 2024. She previously held the role of global head of human resources at Kite, a Gilead company, and led HR for the entertainment division at Riot Games. Earlier in her career she held HR leadership positions at Netflix, Amgen and Novo Nordisk.
CEO Hardy cites her record of scaling organizations through rapid growth
Alexander Hardy, President and Chief Executive Officer of BioMarin, said Bauer has demonstrated the ability to drive large-scale transformation and build high-performing organizations across companies of varying size. Bauer holds a bachelor's degree in industrial and organizational psychology from DePaul University and a doctorate in the same field from Wayne State University.
Wireman helped grow HR function to support five commercial medicine launches
Wireman joined BioMarin in 2013 to lead Total Rewards, HR Systems and Operations, and was appointed Chief People Officer in 2019. During her tenure she supported the launch and commercialization of five medicines and, more recently, played a role in integrating Amicus Therapeutics following its acquisition earlier this year. She will remain at BioMarin in an advisory capacity to support the leadership transition.
