Coral Beach Resort Sharjah First Hotel to Deploy Power Knot Biodigester

Sharjah – October 05, 2026 -- Coral Beach Resort Sharjah has become the first hotel in the emirate to commission and operate an LFC biodigester from Power Knot LLC, marking a new step in the hospitality sector's response to food waste regulation in the United Arab Emirates.

Four-star resort adopts on-site digestion technology under government pilot

The beachfront property, which overlooks the Arabian Gulf and operates four restaurants, swimming pools, a spa, tennis courts and water sports facilities, installed the system as part of the Sharjah Commerce & Tourism Development Authority's Food Waste Carbon Pilot Implementation. The program targets reduced food waste and lower environmental impact across hotels and resorts in the region.

Biodigester processes kitchen and buffet waste directly on site

The LFC unit uses microorganisms in an aerobic digestion process to break down food waste from meal preparation, buffet service and plate returns without transporting material off-property. Power Knot positions the technology as a way to cut reliance on conventional waste collection logistics while streamlining kitchen workflows.

Iftikhar Hamdani, area general manager of Coral Beach Resort Sharjah, said the installation delivers a measurable sustainability outcome rather than a symbolic upgrade, and that the resort intends to continue investing in technologies that reduce its environmental footprint.

Resort adds digester to existing sustainability portfolio

Coral Beach Resort Sharjah previously built an on-site water bottling plant, an organic garden branded Coralganic, and energy and water conservation programs. These initiatives earned the property the Sustain Sharjah Award at the Sharjah International Travel & Tourism Forum Awards 2025. The biodigester extends that program into daily food waste handling, aligning hotel operations with the emirate's broader carbon reduction pilot for the tourism sector.
