American Water Foundation Grants $260,000 to National Urban League

Camden, N.J. – October 05, 2026 -- The American Water Charitable Foundation has awarded a $260,000 Corporate Strategic grant to the National Urban League to fund workforce development programs across its Affiliate Movement network.

Grant targets eight city affiliates for skills and career training

The funding will support workforce development initiatives delivered by eight National Urban League affiliates: Chicago Urban League, Greater Sacramento Urban League, Urban League of Greater Chattanooga, Urban League of Greater Philadelphia, Urban League of Lexington-Fayette County, Urban League of Metropolitan Saint Louis, Urban League of Northwest Indiana, and Urban League of Union County. The programs aim to expand skills, education, and job opportunities in communities served by American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility in the U.S.

Foundation has deployed over $25 million since 2012

The grant falls under the Foundation's Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, which organizes giving around three pillars: Water, People and Communities. Since 2012, the Foundation has invested more than $25 million in grants and matching gifts to organizations in communities served by American Water. The Foundation is funded by American Water shareholders and has no impact on customer rates.

National Urban League cites economic empowerment mission

Marc H. Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League, said the support will strengthen workforce development programs in cities nationwide, equipping young people and adults with skills and training to compete in the current economy. Founded in 1910, the National Urban League focuses on economic empowerment through education, workforce development, housing, entrepreneurship and health programs. Carrie Williams, President of the American Water Charitable Foundation, said the grant expands access to mentoring, career readiness and workforce training for youth and young adults.
