Moberg Pharma: MOB-015 Cures Nail Fungus Despite Terbinafine Resistance

Stockholm – October 05, 2026 -- Moberg Pharma AB (OMX: MOB) reported that its topical onychomycosis treatment MOB-015 achieved mycological cure in 74.3% of evaluable Phase 3 patients regardless of baseline antifungal susceptibility, according to new peer-reviewed data published in the Journal of Fungi.

Researchers screened 506 dermatophyte isolates for terbinafine resistance markers

The analyses draw on the company's completed North American Phase 3 trial of MOB-015, a once-daily treatment applied for 48 weeks. The work was conducted with Professor Mahmoud Ghannoum at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, examining in vitro terbinafine susceptibility across the full isolate population.

Only 3.2% of baseline isolates showed elevated resistance thresholds

Just 3.2% of the 506 isolates carried minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of 0.5 μg/ml or higher, the threshold associated with reduced terbinafine susceptibility. Among MOB-015-treated patients with evaluable end-of-study results, cure was recorded even in two of three patients whose isolates fell into this elevated-MIC category.

CSO Tavakkol ties results to rising scrutiny of antifungal resistance

"These results are encouraging, particularly given the increasing attention to antifungal resistance. Terbinafine showed potent activity against the vast majority of isolates, and MOB-015 achieved mycological cure across the full range of baseline susceptibility," said Amir Tavakkol, CSO of Moberg Pharma.

The study, titled "In Vitro Terbinafine Susceptibility of Dermatophytes and Mycological Cure Outcomes from a Multicenter Phase III Onychomycosis Trial," appears in Journal of Fungi, 2026, Volume 12, Issue 10, article 739. MOB-015 holds market approval in 14 countries and is sold in Sweden, Norway and Israel under the brand Terclara.
