8 Korean War Veterans Gather to Honor the Courage, Sacrifice and Enduring Legacy of Those Who Fought at the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir

RESTON, Va., Oct. 4, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- StarKist and its parent company, Dongwon, honored eight Korean War veterans during this year's Chosin Few Gala, held Saturday, October 3, at the Holiday Inn Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas, as part of The Chosin Few's annual reunion.

The gathering honors The Chosin Few, Korean War veterans who fought in the historic Battle of the Chosin Reservoir more than seven decades ago. It recognizes the courage and sacrifice of those who helped defend South Korea and helps preserve their stories for future generations.

"Freedom is not free. More than seven decades ago, the men who fought at the Chosin Reservoir endured unimaginable conditions in defense of freedom on the Korean Peninsula," said Edward Min, President and CEO of StarKist Co. "We thank them for their service, their sacrifice and the courage they showed in helping secure a future of freedom for South Korea. Their legacy deserves to be remembered and honored for generations to come."

Dongwon and StarKist have a longstanding commitment to honoring and thanking Korean War veterans for their service and sacrifice. For more than 15 years, the companies have supported Korean War veterans through programs and partnerships that reflect their shared gratitude for those who helped defend freedom on the Korean Peninsula. The Chosin Few Gala is an important part of that broader commitment, with StarKist partnering with The Chosin Few for the past five years to recognize the veterans who fought in the historic Battle of the Chosin Reservoir.

"For our veterans and their families, it means a great deal to know that their service and sacrifice are still remembered more than seven decades later," said Shayne Jarosz, President, Chosin Few. "We are deeply grateful to Dongwon and StarKist for continuing to stand with The Chosin Few. Their support helps us preserve the stories of those who fought at Chosin and ensure their courage, sacrifice and service are remembered by generations to come."

The annual reunion brings together veterans and their families for remembrance, recognition and storytelling, helping preserve their experiences and ensure their contributions are remembered by future generations.

During this year's program, guests heard remarks from StarKist leadership and representatives of The Chosin Few and enjoyed musical performances as veterans, families and supporters gathered to commemorate the legacy of those who served at the Chosin Reservoir.

Through its continued support of The Chosin Few and other Korean War veteran initiatives, Dongwon and StarKist remain committed to honoring those who served and helping ensure their stories and legacy are carried forward for generations to come.
