Scania enables electric long-haul with up to 720 km range

SÖDERTÄLJE, Sweden, Sept. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Scania is addressing one of the transport industry's biggest electrification challenges: how to make electric trucks work for long-haul operations. The solution combines expanded battery capacity, MCS charging and practical vehicle configuration, enabling up to 720 kilometres of range while helping operators balance payload, charging and productivity.

For transport operators, the question is whether an electric truck can cover demanding routes, carry the required load and charge in a way that fits real transport schedules.

Scania's solution brings those elements together. By adding battery capacity behind the cab, in combination with chassis-mounted batteries and megawatt charging, the vehicle can be configured for longer electric range while retaining the operational flexibility needed for European long-haul assignments.

In combination with Scania's protruding IVD (Increased Vehicle Dimension) front, the battery-behind-cab layout enables a 6x2*4 European trailer combination with maximum range, even when the total vehicle length exceeds 16.5 metres. This allows customers to combine long electric range with practical trailer compatibility and maintained turning performance.

When combined with the new front, the vehicle can reduce energy consumption by up to 3 percent, depending on specification and operation, as wind resistance accounts for a larger share of total energy use in electric trucks.

"Electric trucks are already part of the transport system, but long-haul operations place very different demands on range, payload and charging. With this solution, Scania is showing how those pieces can come together in a practical way for customers who want to electrify demanding long-distance routes," says Lars Gustafsson, Senior Vice President, Head of Solutions Management, Scania.

Long distances, heavy loads, trailer compatibility, charging strategy and bodywork requirements all influence whether an electric truck works in daily operation. By placing additional battery packs behind the cab, Scania can increase installed battery capacity without relying only on chassis-mounted batteries, making it possible to build long-haul configurations with up to 720 kilometres of range while giving operators more room to balance range and payload.

In a typical configuration, two MP20 battery packs can be mounted behind the cab, adding approximately 356 kWh of installed capacity in addition to the batteries on the chassis and under the cab. Together with MCS charging, this expanded energy capacity supports electric long-haul tractor configurations using standard European trailer combinations.

"This is not only about placing batteries in a new position on the vehicle. The larger point is what it enables: electric transport over distances that have traditionally been among the hardest to electrify, with range, payload and charging considered together from the start," Gustafsson concludes.

FACTS:

- Electric range of up to 720 kilometres, depending on configuration and operating conditions

- Up to 3 percent lower energy consumption on battery-electric vehicles when combined with the new front, depending on specification and operation

- Expanded installed battery capacity, including two MP20 battery packs mounted behind the cab in a typical configuration

- Adds approximately 356 kWh installed capacity behind the cab, depending on configuration

- Designed to support MCS charging for shorter and more productive charging stops in long-haul operations

- Supports selected long-haul 6x2*4 tractor configurations with standard European trailer combinations

- Works together with Scania's IVD front to enable total vehicle length above 16.5 metres

New Scania Dynamic strengthens driver focus and energy efficiency

SÖDERTÄLJE, Sweden, Sept. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The major updates in the new Scania Dynamic contribute to lower energy consumption, improved driver comfort and a more dynamic vehicle experience across powertrains. This means Scania keeps its approach of continuous improvement for battery-electric and combustion-engine operations.

Key updates in Scania Dynamic:

- Improved energy efficiency, with total energy consumption reduced by around 2 percent.

- Exterior updates that reduce air drag, including digital rear-view mirrors, side skirt extensions, redesigned A-pillars, new door handles and a protruding front supporting Increased Vehicle Dimension legislation.

- A stronger driver environment, with updated interior materials, new lighting options, improved seats and an 800 mm reclining bed option.

- Improved visibility, driver support and daily usability, including updated headlamps, driver assistance functions, a magnetic wireless charger and external glove hanger tray.

With Scania Dynamic, the company introduces a comprehensive truck update for R- and S series that further strengthens the driver experience and improves energy efficiency. Developed for the realities of modern transport, the update supports customers who need efficient and flexible vehicles suited to a wide range of assignments with a modern and driver-focused working environment.

"At Scania, we don't take our position for granted. We need to keep our offering premium. With the introduction of Scania Dynamic, we level up on the driver environment, as well as the energy efficiency. We make what already works, even better," says Christian Levin, President and CEO of Scania and TRATON Group.

Scania Dynamic reflects Scania's continuous improvements, where every detail contributes to the overall performance and experience.

A key customer benefit of Scania Dynamic is improved energy efficiency, with total energy consumption reduced by around 2 percent in this step, depending on vehicle specification and operation. The improvement is achieved through exterior updates that reduce air drag, including digital rear-view mirrors, side skirt extensions, a front that supports Increased Vehicle Dimension legislation, redesigned A-pillars, and new door handles.

Energy efficiency is relevant across powertrains. For combustion vehicles, lower energy consumption can mean reduced fuel use. For battery-electric vehicles, it can mean lower electricity consumption and better use of the energy carried on board. For customers, the result is practical: lower operating costs, reduced emissions and a vehicle that uses energy more efficiently in daily operations.

Digital rear-view mirrors are one of the most visible updates, combining improved visibility, and better energy efficiency through reduced air drag. For drivers, the system provides better visibility when reversing or manoeuvring in narrow areas, with two full-HD screens on the driver side and passenger side respectively. Views can be adapted to standard, zoom and wide-angle modes, depending on the situation. The screen also includes vertical adjustable reference lines with measurements. The camera lenses are positioned for natural dirt protection and include heating to help prevent fog, ice and snow.

Scania Dynamic places strong emphasis on the driver. Inside the cab, a new colour scheme creates a premium feel. With an increased number of recycled materials in the interior, with the curtains being 100 percent recycled and wall- and ceiling panels are containing 70 percent recycled material, it means large volumes of textiles are more resource efficient, while the work with lowering environmental impact through a higher amount of recycled material even more, continues. New textiles for beds, rear wall and ceiling, and updated seat upholstery contribute to a modern and cohesive cab environment.

The seat range has been developed in response to new safety regulations concerning headrests, while improving ergonomics and comfort. An 800 mm reclining bed option provides a flexible resting position, with a back section that can be adjusted up to 60 degrees.

Interior lighting has been expanded into several performance levels, from functional white lighting to Ambient+ with multiple solid colours and themes, such as the northern light. This allows drivers to tailor the cab lighting to their needs, from practical working light to a calmer atmosphere during rest periods.

"For drivers who spend hours on the road, these improvements make the cab a great place to work, rest and recover. Because a relaxed driver is not only more comfortable; a more intuitive working environment supports focus, reduce fatigue and contribute to safer operations," says Lars Gustafsson, Senior Vice President, Head of Solutions Management, Scania.

The updated headlamps are also part of the driver experience. They provide improved visibility in dark conditions through extended high-beam range, a wider and brighter beam and better low-beam comfort. Automatic high beam provides optimal lighting without disturbing other road users. For drivers, this means less strain during night driving and better awareness in curves and when meeting oncoming traffic.

Driver assistance functions further support the driver to make daily operations less stressful, such as Safe Stop Assist, Forward Distance Alert, and Vulnerable Road User.

Speed Sign Cruise Control and Curve Speed Cruise Control support smoother driving. These systems support the driver rather than replace driver responsibility, making demanding operations more controlled.

Several updates focus on small but important details of everyday driving. A magnetic wireless charger provides 15 W charging power and keeps the phone in place and allows air to circulate underneath to reduce heat build-up. A glove hanger tray in the external storage compartment allows wet or dirty gloves to be stored outside the cab, with ventilated storage helping them dry efficiently and keeping the cab cleaner.

Scania Dynamic supports the reality of transport. It improves the vehicle experience and energy efficiency across powertrain, while giving drivers a more comfortable, intuitive and modern working environment.

"With Scania Dynamic, we continue to refine what already works. Through continuous improvements, dynamic design and strong driver focus, Scania helps customers reduce energy use, improve daily operations and choose the right solution for every assignment," Gustafsson concludes.

Active ETFs set for further growth as advisers sharpen focus on value and fit

- MSCI survey finds 71% of advisers plan to increase their use of active ETFs over the next two years

- 58% say a new active ETF allocation would most likely displace an existing mutual fund

- 45% of respondents expect to broaden their equity allocations beyond their home markets over the next two years

- Nearly half are open to accessing less liquid assets through an ETF, but only 16% think private markets are a good fit for the structure

NEW YORK, Sept. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Active ETFs are firmly in the mainstream and set for further growth, but advisers are putting greater emphasis on value, liquidity and structural fit when deciding which products earn a place in portfolios, according to a survey of 450 advisers across the U.S. and Europe by MSCI Inc. (NYSE: MSCI).

The vast majority of respondents (87%) to the ETF Intelligence Survey 2026 already invest in active ETFs and 71% expect to increase their use over the next two years. Passive ETF use is also set to grow, with 62% of advisers planning to increase their allocation. More significantly for asset managers, 58% say a new active ETF allocation from a manager they already use would most likely displace an existing mutual fund or UCITS holding.

A change in structure doesn't necessarily mean a change in manager, however, with half of respondents likely to switch to an active ETF version of a strategy they already hold and 85% of those involved in fund selection open to an ETF share class of the same strategy.

Looking ahead, advisers want greater choice across strategies and exposures with thematic and megatrend ETFs drawing the strongest demand (47%). At the same time, 45% of respondents expect to broaden their equity allocations beyond their home markets over the next two years. Among these respondents, 39% expect a greater focus on emerging markets compared with 24% on developed markets.

The majority (58%) of respondents would pay more for a difficult-to-access strategy whereas only 12% would pay a higher fee for core beta. Liquidity and the ability to trade efficiently also rank among the top priorities for 68% of respondents, a sign that advisers are weighing what an ETF costs to use alongside what it costs to own.

As ETFs stretch across more strategies and asset classes, the question of fit becomes more important. While nearly half (49%) of responding advisers are open to accessing private or less liquid assets through an ETF, only 16% consider private markets a good fit for the structure. Nearly two-thirds (62%) point to a mismatch between the liquidity of the ETF and its underlying assets as the main reason, ahead of valuation transparency (50%) and a lack of track record (44%).

"Passive ETFs remain the foundation of most adviser portfolios, but active ETFs are increasingly becoming mainstream. What we are seeing is a shift from whether advisers will use active ETFs to where the structure delivers the most value," said Jana Haines, Global Head of Index at MSCI. "As the ETF market enters a more mature phase, advisers are also asking harder questions about the product's fit. The opportunity lies not just in providing more choice, but in knowing where the structure adds value, where its limits lie and what it takes to earn a place in the portfolio."

Lexar and Leica Present Threads of Time: A Journey Through Silk and Lens at Leica Gallery Amsterdam

The exhibition follows Leica award-winning photographer Jing Huang as he documents young Suzhou kesi artist and custodian Hao Naiqiang (Jingwei), exploring how photography and storage preserve real craft, real presence and memories that cannot be recreated.

AMSTERDAM, Sept. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- This September, Lexar and Leica are presenting Threads of Time: A Journey Through Silk and Lens at Leica Gallery Amsterdam, a photography exhibition documenting Suzhou kesi, a traditional Chinese silk weaving craft known for its highly detailed handmade process.

The project follows Jing Huang, a Leica award-winning photographer, as he documents the working process of Hao Naiqiang (known as Jingwei), a young kesi artist and custodian of Suzhou kesi craftsmanship. Through Huang's lens, the exhibition captures the people, tools, textures, gestures and quiet discipline behind kesi, presenting it not simply as a heritage object, but as a living process shaped by hands, time and patience.

A Living Craft Shaped by Time

Suzhou kesi is one of the most intricate forms of traditional Chinese silk weaving. Unlike printed or embroidered textiles, kesi is created through a slow handmade weaving process in which the artisan works thread by thread to form delicate patterns, colours and textures. Each piece requires patience, precision and deep familiarity with the material.

For Jingwei, kesi is not only a technique, but a way of continuing cultural memory through daily practice. The craft exists not only in the completed silk artwork, but also in the repeated hand movements, tools, decisions and concentration that happen before the final piece is complete.

"What moves me most about kesi is its restraint," said Jingwei, kesi artist. "It is not a free gesture. It is created within the order of warp and weft, built slowly through time, patience and the experience of the hand."

Through Threads of Time, kesi is presented as a craft where time becomes visible — in the tension of silk threads, the rhythm of the hands, the relationship between the artisan and the material, and the quiet discipline embedded in each woven detail.

Photography as a Way of Seeing

To document Jingwei's practice, Lexar and Leica invited Jing Huang, a photographer whose visual language is deeply influenced by painting, particularly Chinese ink painting and small-format compositions. Rather than approaching kesi as a straightforward documentary subject, Huang looks for stillness, restraint, balance and negative space within the craft.

His photography is less about explaining a heritage object and more about shaping a visual experience. Through his lens, the tools, threads, hands and studio details become part of a larger study of form, texture and time.

"For me, photography is not only about recording time," said Jing Huang. "Sometimes it is about forgetting time. What stays in an image is not simply when or where it was taken, but whether it carries a sense of beauty that can still be felt beyond that moment."

At a time when images can be generated instantly, this kind of photographic practice carries renewed meaning. It is not only about producing an image, but about being present with a real person, a real craft and a real moment. Through Huang's photographs, Suzhou kesi is not imagined or recreated. It is observed, experienced and preserved as part of a visual record.

A Dialogue Between the Photographer's Eye and the Artisan's Hand

Presented at Leica Gallery Amsterdam, the exhibition brings together traditional craft, contemporary photography and the question of how visual memory travels across cultures.

"What makes this project meaningful is the dialogue between the photographer's eye and the artisan's hand," said Linda Warmerdam, Manager and Curator, Leica Gallery Amsterdam. "Through photography, audiences can encounter Suzhou kesi not only as a heritage object, but as a living process shaped by time, patience and human presence."

By placing kesi within a photography gallery context, Threads of Time invites audiences to look beyond the final artwork and spend time with the process behind it: the movements, materials and moments that are often invisible once a work is complete.

Why Lexar Is Part of This Story

Lexar's role in the project begins with a simple idea: before a photograph becomes an exhibition print, a film still, a press image or a cultural archive, it first exists as an original file that needs to be safely preserved.

As a brand trusted by photographers, videographers and creators, Lexar has long supported the creative workflow from capture to archive. In Threads of Time, that role becomes part of a broader story about memory. Leica helps capture what is truly seen. Lexar helps preserve the original record behind it.

"Before an image becomes an exhibition print, a film still or a cultural archive, it first exists as an original file that needs to be protected," said Grace Su, General Manager of Europe at Lexar. "Through this project, Lexar and Leica are exploring how real craft, real photography and reliable storage can work together to preserve moments that cannot be recreated."

For Lexar, this project is not about defining the meaning of heritage, but about returning to the brand's core purpose: helping people preserve moments, creations and memories that would otherwise exist only once.

Why It Matters to Consumers

The story of kesi may begin with a traditional craft, but its meaning extends beyond heritage. Not everyone creates a cultural artwork, but everyone has moments they do not want to lose — a family memory, a creative project, a journey, a milestone or a piece of work that exists only once.

In an age where images can be generated faster than ever, the value of a real captured moment becomes more important. A generated image can look similar, but it cannot replace the experience of being there. It cannot replace the person, the time, the emotion or the memory behind the image.

This is where the role of photography and storage becomes meaningful. Photography bears witness to what was truly seen. Storage protects the original record that allows people to return to it.

In this sense, Threads of Time is not only an exhibition about silk weaving. It is also a reflection on what photography and storage can still do uniquely well: preserve presence, carry memory and give real moments a future beyond the moment itself.
